It’s a Texas “source” so, shocker, they don’t see expansion happening.

I appreciate the dedication, Jordan, getting this page up as early as you do. A lot of people can’t get their butts out of bed this early on a Monday morning, much less get a sports page out. You deserve a raise!

Just can’t get excited for a Star Trek remake.

    • John Garner says:

Wow, really? I can. Understand CBS is bringing it to TV next year. The thing I no longer get excited about is ESecPN.

    • Bob Edwards says:

The current movie series isn’t Star Trek. It’s action movies with Star Trek names.

      • j l says:

Thats kinda like saying the new star wars movie isnt star wars. The production values are just so much higher than everyone is used to.

Its really hard for me to watch TOS nowadays because of how bad the production values are compared to the new 4 series’

    • Rick says:

I didn’t want to get interested about a “Star Trek remake”. I grew up with the original, with James T. Kirk of the starship Enterprise. He overacted his way into my heart, to the point I was finishing an episode one week and couldn’t wait for next week’s episode. I wanted not to get excited, for all the remakes, but I failed. I loved the originals, the remakes are nothing like the originals, but I still love them. It’s kinda like the OU teams, I remember them back to Wilkinson and especially the toughness of the Fairbanks teams, even before Switzer. I loved them, and I still love OUr teams.

      • OohRah Mama says:

The celebrated eps are easier to name, like “City on the Edge of Forever”. My lesser-remembered favorite was “Turnabout Intruder”. Shatner actually had some nice nuances portraying a woman in Kirk’s body.

I must say as an original Trekker, I like the new Star Trek franchise. I take it as a continuation/alternate timeline. They need Joss Whedon to direct one though!

  • Matt S. says:

Good morning peeps. Am I the only one thinking Texsa doesn’t want expansion so the league will fail? I’m beginning to think they may want this whole thing to implode. I not sure there’s any other real explanation behind their aversion to expansion. Which is fine by me. Blow it up. Test the free market.

    • Ura Hogg says:

Texsa is just milking the conference as long as the other conference members allow it to continue. They have absolutely no incentive to bring about change.
It’s not like they’re worried about somehow getting left out of the CFP, because of being in a weak conference. They can’t sniff the CFP no matter what conference they are in.
They’re just counting their money and laughing.

      • Matt S. says:

The whole money angle is a bit confusing to me when it comes to Texsa, though. They are near the top, if not at the top, in revenue nationwide year after year. I’m not sure it’s a money play. I think it’s more strategic than that, but I can’t exactly figure it out.

        • Mark_in_VA says:

They are near the top, if not at the top, in revenue nationwide year after year.

That’s the angle. You’ve hit it. Expansion does nothing but threaten to dilute their share. In no scenario, does it bring them more money.

The strength of the league does nothing to increase (or decrease) their share. They’ve got their LWN milk cow, and that’s all they need.

So the status quo is their best bet. And if that causes the league to fold, no doubt going independent or to the ACC (who will allow LWN to continue) will be just as lucrative.

          • hOUligan says:

Always follow the $$$. Plus, like it or not…they are holding all of the cards in the current situation. Why would they give up anything? They’re texsa!! OUr only shot is to jump but it’s sounding like OUr only chance would be to the sec along w/ lil bro … that the B1G isn’t interested at the moment.

          • Ura Hogg says:

And that creates the problem for OU because Boren wants the B1G, who hasn’t offered, while the SEC might agree, but Boren doesn’t like that option. Looks more and more like Boren’s going to do what he has been doing…nothing.
The conference will just keep going down until it has totally sunk.

          • Mark_in_VA says:

Personally, I think our best option is the SEC with either KU or WV. Cut the cord to whorn and its history of poisoning any conference it’s associated with. Let it go be a cancer to Pac or B1G by itself.

      • jimintexas says:

You are totally correct. They have no financial incentive to be concerned about the conference. They milk the big bucks until it implodes, then adjust as necessary.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

I just think they are selfish about their tv contract w/E$PN. Puts them in an advantage versus all other teams. Simple as that.

      • Boom says:

Maybe. Based on some reading I’ve done, there are some very interesting scenarios we may see in 10 years. Put it this way, the landscape we know today may not be in place with any of the conferences. Again, there are some interesting regional scenarios and it would pit OU in the west.

  • Matt S. says:

Dry ice in pool… We use dry ice in oil storage tanks (production tanks) to force them to roll (mix) when we add chemical to them. It can make sounds that would scare someone if they didn’t know what was going on inside that tank.

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Forgot to put sunscreen on yesterday while playing one of, if not the most terrible rounds of golf I’ve ever had and I look absolutely ridiculous (yes I care about my appearance to other people), so I used all this as an excuse to sleep in and skip the gym this ‘marvelous’ Monday ?. I need a Denzel sighting to turn my day around ?

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

Hope you get to feeling better soon. I was on vacation last week in Florida and lathered up with sunscreen for all outdoor activities. Glad I did so.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I got caught up by the fact it was “only” 77 and sunny rather than 95 and sunny. I hope you had a great vacation! I usually don’t peel, so hopefully it turns into a nice tan. I just gotta find time to even myself out cuz right now I look ridiculous lol.

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

I hate it when that happens. Years ago I got the worst sunburn ever on the tops of my feet! My feet were on fire, lobstered per-se, and were so swollen. I could barely stand to wear flip flops for the whole week. I vowed never to have that happen again!

          • jimintexas says:

My seats are on the front row of the newer east side of OF. Until about half time the sun at the early September games can be brutal and one time my feet were sunburned and it was painful. Wearing shoes the next day was not fun.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Nothing better than that ugly Y tanned onto your foot! Hahahaha

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

First world problems right here ^ lol.

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

No, the worst problem I had was when waves in the Gulf crashed and splattered a little salt water in my beer. Now THAT was tragic.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Well, if it were any of the light beers, it’s already salt water anyways :).

I shouldn’t be talking; they had $1 natty lights on the course yesterday, needles to say 8 were purchased on the first go around. I wondering if drinking had anything to do with he quality of play as well as forgetting my sunscreen ?. Just a hunch.

          • metzker says:

Naw 8 seems a bit light to me!

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

I quit drinking while playing golf and my scores improved dramatically. I wonder if there is a correlation to this? Hmmm….

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Well, I guess my first response to this was not TFB friendly enough. I’ll paraphrase, I drink on the course when I’m out with friends but when it’s work/business related it’s usually H2o for me 🙂

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Didn’t mean my comment as an attack. Golf is a fine beverage sport if you so choose to. 🙂 Cheers!

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I think we’re getting each other confused lol. I responded to your comment and it said TFB was checking the comment and it never was posted so I just sent another response instead! I wasnt trying to imply your comment was an attack at all! Sorry for the confusion.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

NP. Have a cold one on me… 🙂

          • Cav66 says:

Kind of the opposite experience for me. I started drinking while I play golf so I that don’t care about my score. It has improved my enjoyment of the game immensely.

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

    Breaking News!!!!!!!!
All 6′ of me will be entering the Shower, now if you remember from an earlier post, Vegas has severe sunburn, let’s all take a moment and pray his Body makes it through this tough endeavor.

Now back to the Daily News

    • Bob Edwards says:

Maybe instead of a washcloth you should take a basting brush.

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

        With butter.

        • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Might as well inject me with some butter and seasonings while you’re at it! I’ve been doing well with my diet as of late. I miss some good ole BBQ food. I cannot wait to get to that tailgate in September!

          • cush creekmont says:

Summer diet? I always “spring diet” so I can enjoy burgers, dogs, steaks, chips and BEER with enough belt buckle space for some peach cobbler a la mode.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Well there’s the problem. Not enough fat in you and you just dried out while you were baking.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I see Bob knows how to work that Smoker! Nothing worse than dried out meats lol.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

You actually use a wash cloth? Those aren’t just for decorations?

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

I went ahead and clicked on the Sooner’s 2016 season preview link against my better judgement and was duly rewarded with immense disappointment in content. Those articles are just lame, but I guess that’s all we’ve got at the moment during the summer doldrums.

    • cush creekmont says:

Be sure to pick up a “pre-season” sports magazine with all the ratings and write ups for the 2016 season. They are just full of February and March team info and player profiles without regard to injuries or dismissals. You’ll “love” these – /ssssssssssssss

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

I did once and felt same disappointment. Plus, I had to PAY for it. Ugh.

  • Matt says:

how high on Isaiah Thomas should we be? Is he a major talent?

    • hOUligan says:

Has a nice offer list that includes ‘Bama. Check his JR film on 247. At 6’5 240 has the length and great quickness. What he accomplishes at the next level is up to him but the ingredients are there.

      • Matt says:

gotcha, my biggest concern is that he may grow into a DE or he may stay at OLB so it’s hard to tell what to look for in his film at this point

    • Rick says:

He’s described as a bigger, stronger, quicker Striker, so yeah, I think so.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

    Morning all

      morning Dave!

How’s it going Rick? Nice weekend for Sooner sports!

        • Rick says:

It was pretty impressive, baseball, softball, I even saw a sweet tweet about how many athletes that were national or Big12 POY in their sport. This week “Pumpers” +1, “Trashers” 0

    • SamSooner says:

      Morning!

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

        Morning Sam

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

Mornin’ Sam. Great day to be a Sooner Fan.

        • SamSooner says:

That’s never a problem. I love for people to know who I root for. Played some golf yesterday wearing my OU gear. So some tOSU fans and looked at them as if to say: yeah, y’all getting that arse whooped this fall.

          • SamSooner says:

Rick, good morning. They know all about it. I love reminding them.

          • Rick says:

I still love watching these old vids of former OU teams.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Played some golf myself down in Florida. The heat and humidity were the only things that kicked my butt. I was beat after the round. It must have taken four, maybe five beers before I was refreshed. 🙂

          • SamSooner says:

I played nine holes yesterday. First time out this year. I shot 44. I should have scored lower. I did have birdie on a par 5. But a par 3 ate my lunch. I was l just off the green, in the rough. I was afraid to chip it too hard because I was chipping onto the green with a downward slope, and fast. So what did I do, I duffed the shot. The short of it is I took a five on a par 3.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Pitching the ball around the elevated greens just killed my scores last week. Golf instructor Hank Haney says to eliminate 3 putts, penalty shots, and two-chips to get your best score. I hit the ball well tee to green, but if I missed the green I was toast in the bermuda rough. It was very hard to get up and down with all the undulations and tight pin placements. It was a very rough week of vacation if I do say so (#modernproblems)

          • cush creekmont says:

My tiniest fiddle plays for you and Sam 🙂 – work, work, work. The positive side is that it is raining and likely to rain all week, so I couldn’t play golf anyway.

          • SamSooner says:

            Somehow, I don’t think you’re sincere. LOL!

          • cush creekmont says:

Oh, I am ALL for you guys having fun. I am just jealous, that’s all.

          • SamSooner says:

Cush, I play as much as I can. Looks like you’re a golfer, too.

          • cush creekmont says:

I loved it in the 90s when I had less responsibility and more time. I still like to play, but I’m not nearly as good as when I was younger. The old “when I retire, I’m gonna'” comes into play here.

It’s a fun game; maddening sometimes. When you’ve been good enough to make the shots, it’s frustrating to make them fewer and fewer times per try.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Wait until you start to lose distance as you get older. That is maddening to me. I’ve lost about 40 yards with my driver and about 10 yards with irons. Even with the better equipment and balls now. Sad. Very sad.

          • hOUligan says:

Yeah. My dad always worked his short game. Was a magician within 20 or so yards from the green. Drive for show but putt for dough was his saying. That’s what I’m working on since age has taken my long game.

          • cush creekmont says:

“Wait” – Oracle, I’ve been there for a few years. I’m even trying hard to lift weights to get some power back, but power loss is only caused a little by muscle atrophy. Most of the age/distance issue is flexibility – and that one, is really hard to recapture.

Still, it’s like football – even so-so, is better than NONE! 🙂

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Yeah, my Dad has lost his flexibility and can only swing the club halfway back. That is just a killer on distance.

          • SamSooner says:

I’ve always said I would rather hit the ball well and score poorly than to score great and play poorly.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

If it’s any consolation to you I’m back at the grindstone now dreaming about my next vacation. Sigh.

          • SamSooner says:

If there aren’t any bunkers to navigate, I learned to bump and run the ball, especially if there’s a lot of green. When I strike the ball, it releases on the green and rolls toward the pin.

I need to get out some more, soon. I have to work out the kinks.

And yes, that bermuda grass is hell.

          • soonerbred4ever says:

I played the Trent Jones Trail in Alabama, while I was there for a family reunion. The heat and humidity absolutely suck the life out of you.

          • SamSooner says:

Heat and humidity will beat you down.

        • metzker says:

    • metzker says:

    • cush creekmont says:

      Howdy!

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Don’t want to overreact but wow what a game by the Thunder last night. If they play like that the rest of the season I can’t see anyone beating them in a 7 game series.

  • RocketCitySooner says:

While walking this morning, we saw an elderly woman taking her recycling bin to the street. She was unable to carry the bin so she was pushing it with her cane. She would take a step or two, push the bin, take another step, etc. A passing driver saw her, stopped, backed up, got out and carried her bin to the street for her. He then drove off. Just wanted to share this.

  • SamSooner says:

    Good morning, TFBers.

Real quick: I hope they suspend Draymond Green. He’s demonstrated in the past that he will do whatever it takes to gain an advantage. He did the same thing twice during the Cleveland series: hold the shoulder of an opponent during a jump ball: see this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N78Gb8Bwznc

It upsets me for the so called experts to use the phrase “playoff basketball” as if it’s a license to do whatever it takes to win. I’ve seen players flail before but I’ve never seen any player successfully elevate by kicking upward: kicking upward negates the thrust you need to lift. He needs to push down. I’ve seen legs go up during a fade away jumper; that’s normal because your trying to get separation. So, thrust is out, not up. Draymond was not taking a fade away jump shot.

If Kevin Durant had not been moving toward the basket, Draymond would have kicked him in the face. Soccer players don’t get their feet that close to an opponent’s face, twice in a game. In order to get your legs up that high, your upward lift has to meet some serious downward force. Not one player Thunder player met him with that kind of force.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

I enjoy watching a physical basketball game but allowing a kick to the junk is ridiculous

      • SamSooner says:

I watched the video: both feet leave the floor at the same time. Adams did not touch Draymond. Adams didn’t do anything to stop Draymond’s upward momentum. The law of physics says Draymond should have elevated upward until gravity brought him back down.

Plus, take a look at where Draymond is looking: you guessed it, directly at Adam’s package. Draymond’s eyes, like anyone trying to score, should be focused on the rim.

        • SquidGiant says:

It looked about as unintentional as a jump kick would…

          • DrewChubbs says:

No kidding. It looked about as natural as a LeBron flop. Definitely not fluid, as would be expected of someone maintaining their balance. There was a brief moment of premeditation before the boot.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

It was meant to land there. If he is the NBA version of a NHL enforcer, let Adams respond accordingly in game 4.

        • Birddawg says:

Exactly.. his eyes were on the target

      • Jed says:

It’s a version of the English Common Law punishment of ‘exile’ in which an offender was stripped of legal protection and was basically raw meat for whoever who wanted to do whatever. In this case, the league flirts with disaster if it doesn’t come down hard. “If the refs don’t take care of it, we should take matters into our own hands mentality.’

    • SquidGiant says:

Instead of suspending him, they should just let Stephen Adams kick Green in the junk at the start of game 4. I think it would be a much more “appropriate” punishment.

    • cush creekmont says:

Sam, the league brass won’t want to “affect the outcome of the series” by suspending an important player. While they should given his history, I will be surprised if they do.

      • SamSooner says:

Sounds like the way things are in society, sometimes. It’s our fault you did something stupid. Here’s a pass: now behave. Uh, sure thing.

He and Curry are my two favorite to hate. I can’t stand seeing their smug faces.

      • DrewChubbs says:

You’re probably right about that. However, it sort of appears that he hasn’t been too effective against the Thunder yet this series. Plus, maybe not suspending him will give our guys a little incentive to destroy the W’s. Personally, I’m hoping the video guys at the Peake will show that clip before the remaining home games, and at every timeout, just to prod the crowd and the players.

    • Rick says:

I would hope the NBA has some sort of avenue to suspend him, after the season is over. I don’t even know if that’s possible, but I don’t want the talk of “if only Draymond hadn’t been booted during the playoffs, we would have beat them”. Kick their a$$, then suspend him from a number of games at the start of next season.

      • DrewChubbs says:

The league ought to order him to undergo counseling and/or anger management classes in the off season. That young man is nothing short of a hot-head, to put it nicely.

        • Rick says:

I would like to see civil and/or criminal consequences in some instances, (like Artest used to get involved with).

      • Ura Hogg says:

A hobble can work for some horses that have a tendency to kick too much. Maybe they should strap one on Mr. Green and then let him do whatever he wants on the court.

    • KJ1123 says:

Im a warriors fan BUT, I really stopped watching pro basketball after MJ retired from the bulls. The league isn’t the same, 80% of these guys now wouldn’t last a season through the 80’s and 90’s. Having said that, OKC blew em out. So whether Green plays or not doesn’t matter in my opinion because if OKC plays the way they did last night, GS won’t win again.

      • SamSooner says:

You’re right about today’s players. The NBA expansion has diluted the talent per team. That makes some of them appear to be greater than they are.

        • KJ1123 says:

It really does, so many great players during MJ’s era it’s crazy. I just watched the Orlando Magic 30 for 30 and it was great. Penny was one of my favorite players.

I have no doubt in my mind he’s suspended for game 4.
The league have set the precedence in the past for these groin hits
He has a history of techs. They know who he is.. and they caught him
      Where is his eyes?
      not on the ball…
      not on the rim…
He’s looking down.. towards his leg
      Eyes= blatantly guilty

And oh, the crap Kerr and Green were dribbling out of their mouths during the post-game interview about that groinkick job:

“Stuff like this happens all the time. There’s contact, people’s
arms, legs flailing. If they think it’s on purpose, play the game, you
know. This stuff happens all the time. Russell Westbrook
kicks his feet out on every 3, and there is contact. I mean, that’s
just part of the game. So I don’t understand how that can be deemed a
flagrant 1. I think it should be rescinded.” – Steve Kerr

”I followed through on a shot. I’m not trying to kick
somebody in the men’s section. I’m sure he wants to have kids one day.
I’m not trying to end that on the basketball court. That don’t make
sense. I brought the ball over the top this way, he
fouled me, and I brought my leg up. I mean, I know my core’s not strong
enough to stop my leg halfway from wherever it was going.” – Draymond Green

But nevermind that he has enough core strength to stop the leg momentarily then hike it up another 4-6 inches to ensure contact to the balls. And there’s this:

“I mean, it has happened before, mate. He’s pretty accurate, that guy.” – Steven Adams

The decision has been made that no action will be brought against either Green or Green’s toes that seem to love playing snugglecrotch.

Where is Kendrick Perkins when we need him.

    • McAttack says:

      Please, no suspension.
We don’t want any excuses for the whiners when we eliminate them from the playoffs
Karma and the Big Kiwi will deal with him!!

I see that they are hiring now, since they’ve fired so many lately. Not sure I could stoop down to their level and still respect myself.

Anyone have a feeling on Isaiah Thomas? I think he might be headed to Bama like Jacobs last year

I think hes OU bound and will continue to grow and play as a 6’5 270 pound DE for us as opposed to OLB

  • BleedCrimson says:

Wow, this is dedication. Some Sooners in there. Dalton, Dowell, and Nichols. Rio bound.
