Top of the morning to everyone, BOOMER!!

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Good morning people! It’s 4:37 am and Texsa still sucks. Hope everyone has a wonderful Friday and annoys the start to their weekend! Boomer!

  • Jed says:

    Morning my fellow animals.

  • Matt S. says:

Good morning all. I see Metz is back. Welcome back!

  • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

Coach Switzer will always be my favorite. I loved his coaches show, the way he broke down film it was like you were in a team film room. When a player did great he would praise them and when a player would have a bust he would bust there a$$.
Coach would smoke a cigarette on the sideline of a big game when he was nervous, now that was cool, at least I thought it was.

    • David Luc says:

      From the Switzer Show
“Kenny King made a nice run there. It would’ve been even better if he hadn’t been carrying the ball like a loaf of bread.”
For some reason that one stuck with me.

      • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

        From the Switzer Show
Eric Mitchell scores on a 68 yard run
” Eric busts on the play, we have counter option right called he opens up the wrong way but great moves and great speed. Eric outruns everyone to the end zone”
He had a love/hate relationship with Eric.

        • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

For those of you to young to remember Eric, YouTube his highlights. He was a phenomenal football player!

          • Boom says:

Phenomenal athlete – not football player as he just didn’t get it.

          • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

Nope he didn’t get it but with the football in his hands he was electric 🙂

          • Stephen Dale says:

yes ….Barry & staff raided Arkansas regularly for talent…No other OU coach before or since has been as successful in Arky…..

          • Stephen Dale says:

you really described him to a ‘T’….there’s a reason why he never became starting QB at OU.

    • HoustonChiver says:

He did a signing/promotion event down in Houston. Great guy, I almost felt bad interrupting him eating his nachos to take a picture and get an autograph!

    • Matt S. says:

I married a Jayhawk who CAN’T STAND Switzer. We went to a movie in Norman a couple years after we married. We were there to see Passion of the Christ.
Anyhow, my wife didn’t realize Switzer was in the chair right next to her the whole movie. When we all stood up to leave afterward, he stumbled (bad knees) and bumped her. She saw who he was, didn’t skip a beat, and says loudly, “Oh dear God, as much as you get around…I’m probably pregnant now.”
I was embarrassed, and normally no one would have heard her over the noise of the crowd, but this was the only movie I’ve ever been to where there wasn’t an empty seat in the room and once the movie was over you could hear a pin drop because of the subject matter of the film. Those two things, combined, created the perfect environment for my rather vocal wife to be heard quite clearly by everyone.
Doubt we are ever invited to a Switzer Christmas. 🙁

      • metzker says:

        Thats funny!!!!!!!!!

      • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

OMG!! That’s funny stuff right there!!

      • Jed says:

Barry probably took it as a compliment

      • MikeyBoom says:

you still married to this woman ? posters on this site would probably take up a collection to help pay your legal fees should you decide to divest yourself of her……

        • Matt S. says:

Lol. Still married. Love her more now than when we got hitched. She’s imperfect, sure, but some day she will cheer on OU and perfection will be attained!

      • Stephen Dale says:

you still married to this woman ? posters on this site would probably take up a collection to help pay your legal fees should you decide to divest yourself of her……

    • SoonerinLondon says:

I love the King, but he can be pretty overbearing. I know people who’ve just had to say “Shut the f*** up, Barry. Let someone else talk.”

The guy I bought my loge box with, obviously a BIG OU fan, was on a private jet to an OU Club event with Merv, Little Joe, Zac Selmon and Barry a few years ago. He sat next to Barry and now doesn’t have much good to say about him. Barry just wouldn’t stop “being Barry”. It was too much for him.

      • MoJoOkie says:

Back in the day I met him a few times at fund raisers. He would literally cross a room to shake my hand and say hello; and I doubt he even knew my name. I always found him to be a special person. But I personally would rather listen to him than myself.

      • OohRah Mama says:

I’ve shared my most memorable personal experience with the King on another site. Guess it’s time to share it with y’all.

Barry & who I guessed were some of his grandkids came into a Norman store where I worked. I was wearing lapel photos of my two Marines, and he stopped talking to the kids and stared hard at the faces of my sons. The oldest was deployed to Iraq at the time. He said “Are those your boys? Marines, huh? You must be mighty proud”. “I am, Coach Switzer”. He said, “Where are they?” When I answered, his eyes filled up and he said “God bless ’em – and you too, Mama. There’s not too many these days with the guts to do what has to be done. You tell ’em thanks for me, and tell ’em we’re behind ’em.” “Thank you, Coach, I will”. He took my hand and squeezed it, then reached over and pecked me on the cheek. “Stay strong, Mama. We need you, too, y’ hear?” He gathered the clan and pointed at me, and said, “That lady’s sons are heroes, ya hear?” With that, he and the kids left the store. I stood there with tears streaming down my face, quite unable to wait on the person next in line. Which was fine, because she was crying too.

People can say whatever they want about the Bootlegger’s Boy…just make
sure that in MY presence, it’s good, or I’ll wipe the floor with you.

        • Hi5s4OU says:

Graduated in 1980 at Stillwater High School. Moved there young when parents divorced. Huge OU fan. Was getting ready for wrestling practice. Lacing up my wrestling shoes and this hand from behind lands on my shoulder. “Hey young man…where can I find Jackie”? I look up and it is Barry. Being the only OU fan in the room I jumped up and told him he is in the weight room. My only encounter with the coach. I graduated with Jackie Shipp. Sunny G was a yr older but played much baseball against him and with him growing up. Go Sooners. Now that I told I wrestled and played baseball at Stillwater and when I graduated I just gave away my identity…if you need help out there…avid golfer now…

        • SoonerinLondon says:

          Very nice story.

  • SquidGiant says:

Picking Alabama as the top defense with 5 returning starters and losing the Defensive Coordinator seems like the easy way out. They’ve been consistent, but they even changed coaches. I would never pay ESPN to see the rest of the list, but I can’t help but wonder.

    • Boom says:

Until they lose these natty’s, I would put them #1 too.

      • SquidGiant says:

I would still rank them number 1 overall (Offense + Defense + Special Teams), but the article starts to justify the ranking with 2015 statistics which I don feel are as relevant. Using the national championship as justification is what I would consider the easy way out of good journalism.

  • J.r. Kamm says:

Good morning, fellow Brainiacs!!! Hope all have a great weekend!! BOOMER!!!!

  • Matt S. says:

i have never seen Peaky Blinders…looks intense.

  • Matt S. says:

If Briles gets through all of this and keeps his job…he’s one of the best salesman in the nation.

    • metzker says:

I just dont see how briles and baylor is not severely hit!!!!!!

      • Matt S. says:

I’m not implying he will keep his job. I’m in 100% agreement with you. They will be hit hard, IMO. But if, big IF, he saves his own hide through it all…Salesman of the Year awards will follow.

        • metzker says:

          All true Matt.

        • Boom says:

I agree but it seems the NCAA has cooled their jets on taking action on any university. Reason, NCAA may be replaced with a different governing body. SO, the real salesman in all of this is not Briles but the NCAA.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

They lost a law-suit to that USC running back over the Reggie Bush thing correct?

Someone will have to force that. They have sold their souls to winning. It is going to require some big boosters with integrity. I don’t see it.

I needed it yesterday. I’ve been watching our games from last season just to satisfy my craving. My girlfriend thinks that is weird, but she didn’t grow up in Football country, so I’ll forgive her.

      • metzker says:

Where is this non football country you speak of?

        • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Laguna, until her sophomore year in HS then it was LA. She enjoys football, but not the way I do lol. We went to the Tennessee game two years ago and she asked ” do the fans really stand the entire game?” I said ” yes babe, this is REAL football, not that foo foo crap they play at UCLA”. She’s slowly converting to the Sooners.

          New York City.

      • SoonerMagic76 says:

Yeah I think I’m going to start doing the same this weekend.

I think we as male football fans have to accept that, most of the time, our women think we’re crazy. My wife will think the same as your girlfriend.

Of course, my wife is a Puke fan, so football to her has a very different meaning. Ya know, find out how badly they lost every week as opposed to actively cheering and following the team.

        • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

My girl still asks the emphasis question “why do you yell at the TV?” She’ll never understand. I’ve come to the realization that I can no longer watch games in public. No matter where I’m watching an OU game their is inevitably someone with money on the other team and they can’t handle my cheering/ trash talking.

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I’ve been watching the games from last year and it’s just crazy how much we relied solely on SKILL. Our offensive line was Booty and we still managed. WE need this line to be at least a B+

    • Jpsooner23 says:

Me too and I thought the same thing, these kids grow up this year and the off could do what they want

    • Matt says:

yep..if Sammy and Joe could get to the secondary before having to break tackles rather than having to break tackles from linebackers? We could see two 1k yard rushers again.

  • Sooner Ray says:

    The Purge looks freaky.

  • Matt says:

anyone have an ESPN insider account that can tell us why ESPN is so high on the Sooners D?

    • metzker says:

      Yep a tease read!

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Why wouldn’t they be? We were 5th in the nation last year in D efficiency (I think). We return quite a bit, have a lot of talented young guys, etc.

Article doesn’t say much. Talks a bit about our secondary as the main reason they predict our D to be good again this year.

      • John Garner says:

The secondary will good. The question mark is the D-Line.

        • SoonerfanTU says:

SO much talent there, that I’m hopeful we can find 2-3 guys that can tear it up. Which 2-3 guys that will be, I’m not sure, but we have a lot of options in case guys aren’t ready or simply don’t live up to expectations.

        • Bob Edwards says:

We lost five of our top seven leading tacklers off last year’s defense and four of them were LB’s. I’m not sure why you think the DL is where the question mark is.

          • John Garner says:

Just thinking talent. In that context, I think we’re loaded at DB and LB. Young, for sure, but very skilled. I expect us to be better at those 2 positions. As for the DL, just thinking last season, Even when Walker was healthy, we didn’t get the push we needed. Could be wrong. Probably am. Just an opinion.

          • Matt says:

IMO the biggest question marks are at LB than DL. Linebacker takes experience to know which gaps to play while guys are right at you. DL is much more physical than mental. But even beyond that, I think DL is definitely deeper. DL is full of blue chip players. Linebacker is not. The only blue chips the Sooners will have be true frosh. Jordan Evans is good and Tay could be really good too but I think it’ll be a few games before Tay really looks solid there. But maybe not.

          • Dick Bump says:

I think we will have the talent. Let’s hope they’re ready early.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

Not a lot of time to “ease into the season” with Houston, Ohio State, TCU, and UT in 4 of the first 5 games.

Get past those guys undefeated though, and look out.

          • Birddawg says:

Depth at LB/oline will undoubtedly be tested this coming season. Great opponents come great battles. Injuries are apart of the game and we were fortunate last year to have a rSR Shannon as a backup LB and our oline escape without any major injuries. (ty/nila rested during Tulsa)

          • John Garner says:

Deberry isn’t blue chip. Kelly? (Too soon maybe for Kelly)

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

The issue is we are playing 2 season making/breaking games out of our first 3! No time for mistakes against the Houston Qb and Barrett.

      • Matt says:

wasn’t doubting, just wondering what ESPN was saying….

    • soonerguy421 says:

      5. Oklahoma Sooners

Predicted defensive EPA per game: plus-10.6

      Returning starters: Six

      2015 defensive efficiency rank: Fifth

Oklahoma finished in the top two in the Big 12 in defensive efficiency, opponent Total QBR, sacks and interceptions last season. Despite losing its leaders in tackles (Dominique Alexander), sacks (Eric Striker) and interceptions (Zack Sanchez), Oklahoma is projected by FPI again to have on average the top defense in its conference. Like Washington, Oklahoma’s strength will be its secondary. Cornerback Jordan Thomas, whose five interceptions last season are the most among returning Big 12 players, is back along with both starting safeties, Steven Parker and Ahmad Thomas. With a top-five projected offense, the Sooners should be one of the most well-rounded teams in the country.

      • Matt says:

cool. thanks! I think a solid secondary can really help a pass rush. The issue in 2014 wasn’t completely the lack of a pass rush. It was more that the secondary couldn’t cover anybody. With a solid secondary, you can blitz more linebackers or just create confusion with twists and stunts if you have an athletic D-line. I think the guys we have on D-line would do pretty good with twists and stunts. Tapper was great with them last year. Walker could fill his role this year.

They have been impressive. Great improvement from the start of their season. So many frosh performing well. Most of us thought the next two seasons looked bright, but these young women may make the future NOW.

PS- Love Gasso as a coach. A lot of good coaches at OU, but she may be the best.

      • BleedCrimson says:

One heck of a coaching job this year! Rebuilding started with game one of the season. Best hitting percentage in NCAA and best fielding percentage in NCAA with 7 underclassmen as starters. Impressive as all get out!!!

She did a fantastic job this year. Shows how well she has evaluated and recruited.

Thanks Jordan for another week of info. It takes effort to pull together all the items you do.

The PAC payouts are scary for the “what might have been” for OU. Who knows what money may come to the 12-2. It will not get to the BI6 or SEC level,, but it may not be last.

  • CWFosh says:

Hello everyone! First time poster here. I am the play-by-play guy and a former coach for Westmoore. I know I only get to see each team once in person, however I do spend plenty of time breaking down film on the teams and players each week. I am a big fan of this web site and for fun I would like to post comments about each team’s players this year. I am a fan of not only OU football, but OK preps as well and love watching all of the former players perform on the next stage. I saw some really good athletes the last few years from Westmoore (Dahu Green and Stephan Robinson) and the teams they faced. Since I no longer coach (attorney now), this might help alleviate my football fix. So expect more posts from me and hopefully you guys find them entertaining.
I will also be attending the team camp at Mustang in a couple of weeks
