FOOTBALL (FREE)

Um, wow.

GYMNASTICS

OTHER

It’s Monday, the sky is still blue, water is still wet and, of course, Texas still sucks.

Seems like every time I start to think this team may have figured things out….

    Boomer (first).

  • Dick Bump says:

    Is it football season yet?

  • Barry Duren says:

Lots to celebrate this weekend. Then there is the baseball team.

    • Kelly Gurbcock says:

Never understood the hire of Pete Hughes.

      • Matt S. says:

He must have interviewed rather well. Some guys interview so good that I’ve been sucked into thinking,”if they had my company behind them, they’d be a huge success.” Maybe his lackluster results prior to Oklahoma had less to do with where he coached or what tools he was given.

        • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I’ve always said the same about Lane Kiffin. He must interview extremely well or just compile a file to blackmail his future employer.

        • Oscar says:

Hughs was hired because of his record as a coach who’s was publicly active in the community with charities and community projects, while also being competitive with his team.

          • Stephen Dale says:

Maybe Castigleone was simply desperate and chose the first guy to say ‘yes’ .. it happened with Donnie Duncan & Howard Schnellenberger. Just history repeating itself………a bad decision on JC’s part similar to the allowance of so much nepotism within the OU programs……………….

          • Spitting Bull says:

Joe C didn’t hire Duncan or Schnelly. Nepotism with the OU programs? WTH? Final four in Basketball and Football. National Championships in both mens and womens gymnastics. A recent national title in Softball and a fantastic coach there. Did you mean to say Excellence? Because that’s what that is.

          • Stephen Dale says:

You mis-read my comment. I didn’t say JC hired either Duncan or Schnellenberger.

          • Spitting Bull says:

You put those two names in the same sentence along with Castigleone for one thing. But you made this statement, “a bad decision on JC’s part similar to the allowance of so much nepotism within the OU programs.” Which sounds like you are talking current. Which is absurd based on all the success I quoted. Excellence. So it seems you misread my comment sir.

  • Matt S. says:

On the NCAA revenues, where do these 7 figure subsidies come from?

    • JR says:

I am pretty sure the subsidies are fees that are added to student cost of attendance. Makes me sick that this is happening while tuition costs are skyrocketing.

    • Drew says:

I’m pretty sure it comes from the overall school budget.

  • DR LEO MARVIN says:

I love the Monday morning censorship video.

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Good morning all! That Sterling Shepard Video gave me chills! That fade against Tennessee still gets me every time!

  • Framoka says:

Its been quiet for a few days, hope there’s a “BOOM” soon. Boomer!

  • Sooner Ray says:

So, Lamb doesn’t have the OU banner at the top of his twitter page anymore. A thing or no?

    • SamSooner says:

Sooner Ray, do you have any idea who this is? Looks like Parker retweeted it:

      • Sooner Ray says:

        Curtis Bolton.

        • SamSooner says:

          Oh, okay!
          Good morning, sir!

Sometimes the thought of cracking an egg is too much. I’ve put it off as long as I can: my desire to have an omelet is too strong.

    • Stephen Dale says:

since LSU is his ‘favorite’ growing up and he now has a LSU offer , then no, no surprise. probably a question of when rather than ‘if…………..

      • Defend Colfax says:

        He’s had the offer buddy.

      • ccmosaic says:

I have also seen it reported that LSU is not willing to take him right now because they have other kids higher on their board. If LSU was to accept his commitment I am hearing it would be late summer at the earliest and maybe not until they loose out on 2 other kids. (This could go all the way to signing day.)

    • Mark slavin says:

Not just that but it doesn’t say Oklahoma commit anymore either.

    • hOUligan says:

Lamb is an outstanding hs receiver and was really working well w/ Robison at a camp so would not be happy about losing the kid to LSU. But OU is holding some other great hs WRs at arms length. Lamb is not irreplaceable. Am sure the staff is in his ear and reading whether he is ‘in’ or not.

      • Rick says:

That was kinda my thought. The way some of this stuff has worked out over the last few years. The split was somewhat mutual after everything was said and done. I have no information in this case, just sayin’.

  • Glocal Sooner says:

Was able to get over to the Fort Worth Covention Center to watch the women’s gymnastics this weekend. My two daughters are in gym so we thought they would enjoy it. It was an incredible experience. We were able to visit with some of the parents and our girls were able to meet a few girls from the team. The competition for the championship was tough but we pulled it out. BOOMER SOONER!!!

    • Stephen Dale says:

terrific accomplishment for both the guys and gals squads…..

Thanks Sterling for so many big plays.

    • bigrackhunter says:

He bought it when it mattered the most! The game sealing td at Notre Dame, end around against Bama, and the dive & fade at Tennessee.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

    Good morning all.

  • LottsSocks says:

Joe C grinning big in that picture with the ladies. No pic with the men? Hmmm…Or maybe JE not as interested in posting that one?

    • J.r. Kamm says:

It’s hard to be in two places at once.

    • Stephen Dale says:

JC enjoys sharing the ‘moment’ that others have earned……..

      • J.r. Kamm says:

He’s the frickin’ athletic director — he is responsible for the athletic department. What the hell are you talking about?

      • Ura Hogg says:

JC has done an OUtstanding job overall at OU. He’s “earned” a little of the spotlight for himself. Very, very few athletic programs are having success comparable to OU. Who would you rather have in his place? Mike Perrin? Mike Holder??? LOL

        • Stephen Dale says:

I like JC as OU AD ; he could stay out of the limelight more and let those who have won national titles bask in the glow while he stays in the background….I have no issues with JC other than allowing too many relatives of the HC’s to be hired as assistants / non paid assistants, etc….

    • Okie403 says:

Hmm. Let’s see. Two gymnastics meets on same nite. One in Ohio one in Ft Worth. One with the guys (who won last year) and with the ladies (who are expected to win this year). Toughie and great ‘problem’ to have. But the flame cooked steaks and the pretty ladies n Cowtown…. I think Joe C picked just fine. And he had a big part in that success… From coach to facilities to funds for the team, well played Joe!!

  • LottsSocks says:

So have we been skunked on commitments since the Spring Game?

  • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

Really looking forward to watching Sterling tear it up in the NFL!

    • Stephen Dale says:

IF he is lucky, his career will be with the Steelers in Pittsburgh ( although I don’t think he’ll last to the Steelers #2nd rd pick )……

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

You’re right. He’ll be gone after their 25th pick in the first round. I’ve obviously got Crimson blinders on, but the kid is a stud and if he were two inches taller the world would be all over him. We’ve all seen what he can do which is why none of us view his height as an issue. I would love for him to go to a team with an established #1 receiver and a solid QB. I hate when our boys go to teams with ass around them (Kenny Stills and Miami) so they don’t end up doing much.

  • LottsSocks says:

Interesting read…Can college athletics continue to spend like this? at http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/2016/04/17/ncaa-football-basketball-power-five-revenue-expenses/83035862/

Note the quote from Cincinnati’s CFO, “On a dollar basis, Cincinnati’s athletics program is one of the most heavily subsidized at a Division I public school, receiving nearly $23.2 million from the university in 2015. But it also is being creative in cutting costs. Omar Banks, the department’s chief financial officer, says revenues are expected to decline in future years for complicated reasons having to do with the breakup of the old Big East, UC’s tenure in the American Athletic Conference and how units of revenue from the NCAA men’s basketball tournament are being distributed”.

We need to stay away from problem schools like this.

Also, check out top revenue schools at http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances/
    .

    • Drew says:

What on earth is going on at TAM? Their revenue was ridiculous last year.

      • SoonerGoneEast says:

The extra revenue is probably from those two national championships they won in football in the summer of 2012.

Seriously though, now maybe now they can remove the fee they were adding on top of the tuition of every single student enrolled for the construction cost of their new stadium.

      • Defend Colfax says:

There are a lot of bandwagon Texan fans who flip flop with the trends. A&M has been a “sexy” team ever since they left to the SEC. This year they’ll have to earn it to keep that shine.

      • SWoods says:

It looks like the significant increase in their revenue came mostly from contributions from their fans.

        • DCinAZ says:

Delusional fans who thought Kyler Murray was going to win them the natty last year.

        • Drew says:

I’m not sure I buy that. Their income rose over 70%! How many millions would they have donated to get there? And I’m not sure donations even count towards revenue here. Otherwise, OU’s would have skyrocketed last year with the donations towards the stadium renovations.

          • SWoods says:

Well if you go onto the website Jordan provided and click on AtM, it gives you a break down on their incoming revenue. From 2014 to 2015 there was $55,750,322 increase in contributions. That is definitely where the large gain was. There was also a $9 million increase in ticket sales and about $10 million increase in lincensing.

          • Drew says:

Didn’t see the link, thanks. Wow, they really were clueless last year, huh?

          • SWoods says:

Yeah lol, looks like they expected a championship.

          • Drew says:

Sigh. They keep making it harder and harder to root for TK9 next year. Oh well, here’s hoping Trevor somehow averages a 65% complete rate and 5:1 TD:INT while the Ags still lose every game next year (except Bama).

          • SWoods says:

No doubt. Id love to see trevor have a great year, but the Ags be as bad as possible. Definitely will be rooting for them to beat Bama!

          • Jim Casy says:

            y

      • Jim Casy says:

Did they ever back out of putting 75 million dollars of their 500+ million stadium expansion on the backs of their students in the form of fees? And also rasing student ticket prices by a lot?
Sure, their revenue might be high, but lets talk NET….
OU would never be that irresponsible with an expansion (over 1/2 billion? Really?) and never, ever expect the students or the taxpayer to pay for it.

  • Okie403 says:

I noticed while Watching the Shepard footage that OUr QBs have always under thrown receivers !

    • DrewChubbs says:

That’s a pretty good observation. I remember how the TV guys always commended Landry for throwing a perfect ball to back shoulder, so “only his receivers can get it.” I remember one guy even said it on a pass 40 yards downfield to a wide-open receiver. Had it not gone to the back shoulder, the receiver would have housed it. I always get a chuckle thinking about that one.

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

Riley says it’s better to under throw and give the receiver a chance rather than overthrow it and have no chance.

  • LandThieve3 says:

Sterling played at a high level from freshman to senior year with 4 different QB’s. Jones, Bell, Knight, and Mayfield. Simply amazing. One of the greats.

    • hOUligan says:

Maybe my blatant homerism showing, but that stretch vs UTenn where he took over the game w/ Mayfield and made those ridiculOUs catches for the win… gotta be one of the best performances for a wide receiver anywhere, anytime. THAT is Sooner Magic.

  • Mark_in_VA says:

I sure hope someone’s called CeeDee and asked what happened over the weekend in the OP!

    • Rick says:

It’s hard to imagine a good receiver wanting to leave a committment to a passing school, to committ to a school that rarely throws, and when it does its rarely successful. Lets see, I want to commit to a school that the school rarely passes, check. I want to commit to a school that rarely has a good QB, check. I want to commit to a school that has a coach that is crazy and is barely holding on to his job, check.

      • Jpsooner23 says:

There is the matter of nfl pay checks to consider

      • Mark_in_VA says:

People go with their hearts, too, and Lamb grew up an LSU fan.

I have to ask myself, if I had been a recruit during Blake’s tenure, would I have rationally gone elsewhere given what a white-hot mess OU was? Or would I still come to OU because I can’t imagine playing for anyone else? And if I’m honest, I have to conclude the latter.

Is Lamb as much of an LSU fan as I am OU fan? Probably not. So it just depends where on the spectrum he sits.

      • LottsSocks says:

LSU put a lot of emphasis on passing the ball in their Spring Game…

  • Travis Coyle says:

Gonna miss watching Shepard zigging and zagging. Turning discombobulated defenders around. It’s like a work of art watching him run his routes.

  • cush creekmont says:
