I will be near Trenton, Mo.(northern Missouri & not too far from Iowa) this Saturday. It’s the wife’s relatives annul Thanksgiving dinner. Problem: lots of Missouri fans and a few Iowa fans also. I will be wearing my OU hat and jersey. Hope I can keep it classy after OU wins-doubt it.

        • Sooner Ray says:

Don’t worry about classy, rub it in every chance you get. lol.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

I missed the discussion on Playoff game locations last night. It is my understanding that they will place the #1 seed at the best/closest location for them, and the 2/3 seeds will get the remaining location. That would mean, as things stand, Clemson/Iowa in the Orange Bowl, and Bama/OU in the Cotton Bowl. I don’t think they’d ship Clemson/Iowa all the way to Dallas just to keep OU out of there. I also don’t believe they are allowed, or supposed to, change seedings to get teams to certain locations or to keep teams from certain locations, ie, they wouldn’t drop OU to the 4 seed JUST to get us to Miami and not Dallas.

    • Sooner Ray says:

The 1 seed is all that is considered.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

More games to go so dust isn’t settled yet on final 4. But, if things stay the same then yes, it would be us & Bama for cage match rematch in Big D.

    • Clay Davis says:

I think we might stay at #3 if we win by a decent margin and Iowa wins out. If Michigan State wins out, they may bump them to #3.

    • crazyb says:

The #1 seed gets to pick their bowl location. Therefore, Clemson would definitely pick the Orange Bowl, as it’s much closer to SC than Dallas is. Which leaves the #2 seed (Bama) playing in the Cotton Bowl against #3 (OU).

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Pretty sure the #1 team doesn’t get to pick their location. They are going to be assigned a location by the Playoff Committee, and it’ll be the Committee’s decision on where the best place to send them is. Obviously with Clemson, that will be Miami this year. If the two games were the Peach Bowl and the Rose Bowl, it would be the Peach. If it were between the Cotton and the Fiesta, the Cotton.

        • crazyb says:

I think officially you are correct, but last year I went to a talk by Bill Hancock, who is Executive Director of the CFP, and I remember him saying something to the effect of the school having input on which location they play at.

Side note not about OU athletics, pretty excited about the captain America trailer. #BeatOSU

  • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

So Mike Gundy was hosting a football recruit and showing off the facilities. As they walked, Mike Gundy would say, “The cafeteria for our football team.” The weight room for our football team.” And on and on.

Soon they walked by the OSUcks trophy case. Underneath a gold-plated “National Championships” plaque was a void. The recruit pointed to the sign, and to the space below, and said, “And that?”

Mike Gundy grumbled, “Overflow for the wrestling team.”

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

Almost time to make OSU offense one-dimensional then pin our ears back and get after the QB. Then pound the rock with Perine & Mixon until Gundy’s spikes droop and TBP’s well runs dry.

  • SamSooner says:

Sometimes, there is too much of a premium placed on winning. Losing can be just as good as winning. There are two losses I can point to that have propelled this team to excellence:
    2014 loss to OSU.
    2015 loss to texsa.

I still believe that OU had to lose those games in order to win.
OU has a focused team, with the proper motivation, willing to leave it on the field because they have everything to gain. This team has been tested, on and off the field, they have been forged to withstand whatever is thrown at them. They now have absolute resolve and determination to win or lose as a team but they will “leave no doubt” in the opponent’s mind that they just played OU.

I like this team. They will hoist the Big XII trophy on Saturday.

    • Oscar says:

Maybe we should just figure out a way to play those “loses” in a way in which we embarrass ourselves with our play, lack of focus and preparation, and still get the win. It’s much better for the record.

  • Mizuno44 says:

    Three random thoughts:

    1) Our defense has really wreaked havoc on everyone this year.
    2) How does a young man pick a school these days, where do you find a quiet place to think?
    3) I hope our equipment manager picks the correct cleats for Saturday, unlike Baylor.

  • Sonny says:

Rumor going round that Mason Rudolph injury maybe a broke foot. Has anyone heard anything?

  • Matt says:

After the Baylor game, OU still owns the #1 road defense in the country in terms of yards allowed per play. I think that stat bodes well for the game this weekend. Bob has taken what used to be an Achilles heel of this team and turned it into a real strength.

  • j l says:

I could listen to jim ross all day. I pray that one day he gets to call a sooner game on national TV, would be epic.

  • BleedCrimson says:

The furthest into the future that I am looking at this point of the season is Saturday. Just win and then start thinking about where and when we will be playing.

  • BleedCrimson says:

I will be rooting for Auburn. 🙂

  • rainydaze114 says:

I had nearly forgotten what it feels like to be rooting for a contender this far into the season. It’s a cool feeling.

I want Bama in the finals; want to get payback on Clemson in the semis.

    • Matt says:

agreed, I would rather face the most physical team last so OUr boys aren’t as beat up going into the title game.

  • Birddawg says:

“The expectations are what they are here, and that’s OK,” Stoops said. “That’s what happens when you win 10 or more games 13 of the last 16 years, win eight Big 12 championships and win every BCS bowl game. Our bad spell is 8-5. That’s been our worst. And, listen, when that happens here, it’s the end of the world, and that’s OK too. The important thing is that we’ve responded back every time.” -Bob Stoops

Wish our fans were that level headed. What Bob has done at OU over his 17 seasons is amazing.

    • Fear The Magic says:

Im impressed, Bob didnt specifically mention the Bama game in that quote!

    • Daddy R says:

Thats a helluva quote. And THAT is why its hard to run that man out of town. He’s well aware of the expectations, hell he helped create them…and yet, He owns it all. Bring it on. Boomer Sooner!

  • George Lowrey says:

It was close until it wasn’t….

  • KJ1123 says:

I was going to save this comment until next week but…..I wish I could dig up or hear from all those people that were on this board in Jan talking about firing Bob and Kish and Mike and the athletic director and the president and everyone who has anything to do with OU Football. Hell I think there were a couple of people after the Texsa game too. Have a little crow for Thanksgiving dinner.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

I have been eating my crow as it concerns Mike Stoops. I was one of the ones who wanted him gone. I admit it.

      • eastoksooner says:

I admit I wanted Mike gone too. I was very upset after Baylor and Clemson last year, confused as to the state of our program. So glad we have turned it around.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

Yes sir. Pretty much everyone who wanted Mike gone(Kish too) were just that way, but the real Sooner fans hung around which Im thinking is what KJ was referring to

          • eastoksooner says:

The thing that got me last year was that we “quit”. I hate to see teams quit. Ought to fight like hell to the very end.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

I thought the same about quitting.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Yeah, that bowl game was tough to watch because of the team just quitting. That really got to me and took a long time to shake off.

      • John Garner says:

I’m still holding my breath. I think the underlings: Kish, Cook, Reynolds, and Viney are coaching the hell out of the defensive players. All units are playing great and having MS up top was a necessary move. His sideline antics, while good for a 15-second replay and laugh on ESPN, were bad not only for the psyche of the defense, but recruiting as well. Not many kids understand that kind of passion. But all understand playing for the #1 defense in the B12.

    • rainydaze114 says:

I’m the first to admit that I wanted Mike gone for a while, and I’ve repeatedly expressed how wrong I was on that front. But if ANYONE claims to have had zero doubt about the state of the program after last year (or even the Texas game this year), then I think they’re probably lying.

      • KJ1123 says:

No I agree there was alot of doubt. And alot of the regulars (present company included) were rightfully upset because we’re all passionate about the team. But there were a few, that I dont see on the board anymore, that were just relentless. I’m more than happy that the people that stuck it through are still here and still contributing.

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

This board is nothing like OUI haters. I couldn’t stand to read the other site it was so bad. Hundreds of threads calling for coaches heads. I came over here for refuge and common sense commentary and am glad I did.

    • Bob Edwards says:

I never called for Stoops to be fired. However, I do think it was a fair question over the last few years. Stoops winning percentage had slowly dropped since he won the NC and his coaching staff was becoming filled with the guys who couldn’t get other jobs. I wondered if he was capable of getting rid of those coaches.

In that situation some guys just aren’t capable of righting the ship and Stoops needed to prove he could or it was time to move on. He went and did the things that needed to be done to fix the problems, but let’s not pretend that the problems weren’t becoming significant.

      • KJ1123 says:

I think that HE most of all may have looked at it and admitted he was wrong with the direction things were going and he set out to right the ship. The overhaul was needed and it’s worked out well so far. I never doubted that Bob lost his touch, but I did feel he got a little complacent and needed that wake up call. I also thought that the thing that makes him such a stand up guy may also cause his downfall (loyalty). But he did what he needed to be done and here we are…..one more game.

        • Bob Edwards says:

That was my concern as well. If felt like his loyalty (I’m looking at you Bruce Kittles) was starting to override his responsibility to his employers. The result was a coaching staff that was not up to the expectations at OU. My question wasn’t whether Bob could, but whether he would be able to do it if he had to fire some of his friends.

        • EasTex says:

That big bear hug Bob and Cooks shared after Parker’s “Sooner Magic” to end the game last week was a bright and encouraging sign.

          • Scott says:

This team is very special , I’m just so happy OU is going in the right direction and competing to be the best program in the country.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I love Kerry Cooks and what he has done with the DB’s. They have confidence and they communicate. That is something that has been missing the last few years.

        • EasTex says:

That big bear hug Bob and Cooks shared after Parker’s “Sooner Magic” to end the game last week was a bright and encouraging sign.

    • MoJoOkie says:

I admit that I was the most frustrated with our offense by the end of last year. But somewhat in my defense, I felt the defense was left to try to salvage what the offense wasn’t getting done.

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

Yes, and this is why Stoops overhauled the offense. On this Thanksgiving Holiday I am saying thanks for both Lincoln Riley and Baker Mayfield. Those two have propelled us to being one game away from the playoffs. I am ever so grateful for both of them. And of course, the rest of the team too.

    • Maui Sooner says:

I used to see another OU fan at the gym and he kept asking me if I had finally realized it was time for Bob and Mike to go. I am just a fan and not a critic but I remember well the Blake/Shelly years and realize how fortunate we have been these past 16 years. Here’s hopping for three more wins to erase all doubt.

      • Bob Edwards says:

Yes, anyone who lived through the Gibbs/Smellsofbourbon/Blake decline know it can get worse. Most of the folks who wanted Stoops fired could never say who we were going to replace him with, just some “well we can get someone better.”

      • KJ1123 says:

You know and the more I look around the nation and what’s going on with coaches and schools and their boosters etc, the more I’m grateful we still have Bob. I’m not saying that he will be the only option and best option for OU going forward, but I do think we are lucky to still have him.

        • Really good point. Saw where the folks at LSU are giving great thought to who they could possibly get before they decide to get rid of their coach. I was one of those who was ready to get rid of Kish and MS, but not Bob. At least not if he was willing to make some serious changes and he did. He also did a great job selecting the replacements. Look how many very good assistants ended up not doing well at all as a head coach and that will cause you to want to hang on to someone like BS for as long as you can.

    • RBear says:

I remember most of the hate being thrown around at JH and M Stoops and play-calling in general.

I think those situations were handled well.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

Let’s be fair. BS got rid of two badly failing offensive coaches and, instead of firing MS, gutted his staff and sent him to the press box.

BS did about everything he could do to change things, short of resignation.

      • KJ1123 says:

That’s true, and I think Bob realized, one the kids were tuning Mike out, and two, his outbursts and emotion on the sideline were not helping. Sometimes you gotta step back to move forward. I still think sometimes the Def play calling is shakey, but the new position coaches have really done a great job in coaching the kids up.

    • Lincoln Hawk says:

I wanted Kish gone, but I will enjoy a big ole heaping pile of crow. Nothing makes me happier to be wrong about it!

    • j l says:

I never said bob should be fired, but i certainly questioned his ability to get this team back to an elite level.

Admitted to such, and ate some crow after the baylor game. It didnt taste very good =)

    • Greg sparks says:

      Luckily Baker Mayfield happend

      • KJ1123 says:

Yes Baker coming to OU was a great situation. But Baker in this situation with this team and these coaches is what is responsible for the success imo. Its proven to be good for the whole team.

        • Jed says:

KJ, what do you hear about Cody? We’ve all experienced TK’s inconsistency and I’m curious as to what else we’ve got on the shelf.

          • KJ1123 says:

To be honest I haven’t heard anything about Cody at all. I think with what happened last Sat the team should be really preparing for worst case scenario. At least have each quarterback have a certain offensive package or something along those lines. Because it was obvious that for the most part, TK did not know a good amount of the plays.

          • Bill Holder says:

Really? TK didn’t know most of the plays? Mercy!

          • Jason Vos says:

What about MIxon, is he back practicing?

          • KJ1123 says:

            He wasn’t yesterday.

          • Indy_sooner says:

He wasn’t anywhere as good as BM but LR statrd that TK knew all those plays. Beleive it was somewhere along the lines of *he can name every single post ” or something. It could be that practices and games don’t match up…

    • Greg sparks says:

      Luckily Baker Mayfield happend

    • Stephen says:

I will never apologize after how Mike and Kish treated us last year. I will say they deserve a lot of credit for this season.

I will never apologize after how Mike and Kish treated us last year. I will say they deserve a lot of credit for this season.

      • KJ1123 says:

That’s fair, they deserved that after last year. I think them not being the focal point has helped, again the new assistant have worked out very well.

      • KJ1123 says:

That’s fair, they deserved that after last year. I think them not being the focal point has helped, again the new assistant have worked out very well.

    • Austin says:

So true. Hopefully Ou can win 3 more games and that crow can taste a little worse. Alright Kj, any practice news to tide us over as we patiently await an open post?

      • KJ1123 says:

Yesterday I heard practice went really well, guys are upbeat and working hard. Offense was moving good. Baker and Samaje were practicing good, the light school schedule this week is working out well with guys needing extra time in the training room and being able to focus more on the game. So far so good this week.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Me too! Or those folks that thought OU would lose 4-5 games this after we lost to Texas. Ridiculous.

      • SoonerSpock says:

Was not ridiculous to have concerns about multiple losses after the Texas loss in October. It was impossible to see that the Sooners were going to turn things around mentally and focus on being the best team they could be.

Bob has been one of the top 5 coaches in the country for almost two decades and he was much better qualified to turn things around than any other option available. That being said we were very lucky things got turned around as quickly as it did. Were Baker Mayfield not available and we had to depend on Treavor Knight would again be languishing in another possible 8-5 season.

2014 and 2015 should show us how minuscule the difference between 11-1 and 8-5 can be. Little things like moving William Johnson to the nickel back made a significant difference in the defensive secondary play and may have saved us from having 1-2 more losses.

        • SoonerfanTU says:

Yes, predicting 4-5 losses was ridiculous. It wasn’t going to happen. Just like it wasn’t going to happen the last time OU lost a game “early” in the season and OU fans started predicting us to lose every game on the schedule except KU and ISU. It’s nonsense. OU had probably had Bob’s worse season last year and we still only finished with 4 regular season losses, and we gave three of those games away. No way this was going to be a repeat of that. I read people saying OU would lose to Baylor, TCU, and OSU for sure, and would lose one or two of the other games (KSU, TT, ISU, KU). Just silly. Bob has done nothing in 17 seasons to make me think OU would just fall apart in that manner.

I don’t everybody last season that we were very close to being a really good team again. I based that on the silly losses to TCU, KSU, and OSU. OU could have, and probably should have, won all three of those games. We had stuff to clean up, but predicting this OU team to lose just about every game we were going to play after Texas was just dumb. I said it then, and I’ll say it now.

    • Golfluvr13 says:

      AMEN! BOOMER SOONER!

    • Indy_sooner says:

I understood the general frustration but I didn’t understand the dissent about our HBC. Dude has earned the right to exit gracefully… Not like Mark Brown, if anything, for what he’s done for the university. I remember being one of the few defenders of Kish though this was the last year. Dude has earned it.

  • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Sack Stillwater. Roll up in that mug and push the Puke fans to their cars by halftime. That way the Sooner faithful can have two full quarters to party. You know, for everyone’s safety.

  • leatherneck1061 says:

Was just listening to “expert” Mike Golic predict the pukes are going to take us down. He cited last year’s game as evidence. Please. Other than Herbie, it seems like so much of the sports media has largely ignored the Big 12 altogether. Regardless of ranking, our boys need to go make a statement Saturday……this thing is by no means secure.

    • RBear says:

Yeah, here’s our QB stats from last year- and we still damned near won. Doubt these stats will be repeated this year Mr. Golic-

      Cody Thomas 10/17 120yds 7.1avg 1 TD 0 Int 36.2 QB Rating

    • Mr. Jones says:

Most experts picked Baylor against us as well so I’m cool with a ND fan picking OSU.

    • DCinAZ says:

He clearly hasn’t watched how nasty we are on the road. Well that…..and he’s stupid.

    • Daddy R says:

All I can say is, Sooners are 12-1 when both teams are ranked. Soon as I saw that stat above, I instantly felt more relaxed. Not that, that ONE game, couldn’t happen again. But it just shows OUr boys are always focused going into this game whenever O-state has any ounce of respect nationwide. And the way we have fought this year, I sure don’t imagine any letup now.

Have these people even glanced at the schedule to see who these teams play?

Navy beat tulsa worse than we did. Just sayin.

Its weird to say, but navy is actually a pretty good football team.

    • rainydaze114 says:

I’ve heard the opposite actually. That’s why they dropped so far. The only thing they have on OU is the “quality” of their loss… which obviously doesn’t matter.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

To be fair, their SOS is still better than ours. Not by much, but it is. Surprised me when I looked this morning.

    • DCinAZ says:

Navy is very good this year but boasting about that as a quality win is a little retarded I agree.

    • leatherneck1061 says:

Just to be clear, I’m not saying Navy isn’t any good. But when your schedule consists of teams like Colgate, Tulane, UConn, etc., it’s a lot easier to get 9 wins. I just don’t know how people can give ND an edge beating teams like that when OU goes into Waco and handles a team like Baylor.

      • j l says:

The only group that truly matters is the ones who put us ahead of the irish last night =)

Win and we are in, not worried about getting jumped by the irish now.

  • DCinAZ says:

Reading a lot of saltiness out in the media about us getting in and those tears taste delicious!

    • Daddy R says:

They do. But until those final rankings, and a Sooners win on Saturday. I don’t trust that committee one iota…

      • DCinAZ says:

Me neither. Us sitting at home while everybody else plays CCGs makes me very nervous.

        • Daddy R says:

Yup. And I really don’t foresee that. Its just so damn hard to trust those guys..

        • j l says:

The only team who could steal our spot finishes their season the same day we do.

0 chance a 2 loss stanford jumps us, even with wins over ND and whoever the pac 12 south champ is(gonna be at least a 3 loss team)

    • Daddy R says:

Thats a helluva run there…WOW. Must have just gotten too comfortable at home at times last couple years..
      Time to make it 18-2

  • Daddy R says:

That WWE OU video up above is absolutely hysterical. Spot-on. “Its a superPLEX!”

  • Daddy R says:

    Here’s some fun to remember…

And for you younger Sooners, make sure you watch this so you Know EXACTLY what we are up against.

    Bedlam memory:

“Next Saturday, two teams are going to play. One is maybe the best team in college football and the other one is a darn good football team. We’re going to play to figure out which one is which.” Les Miles on the Monday before the 2003 Bedlam game

    This was the result:

  • Birddawg says:

    Tidbit:
2013 Ohio St squad lost to the Clemson Tigers in their final bowl game.
2014 they ended up losing to a 7-6 VT squad early in the year.
    Won all their conference games.
Played Alabama in the semi final
    Won the natty
Similarly, OU lost to Clemson last year, got beat early, needs one more W to win conference and has a strong possibility we will play Alabama.
I can’t get over how eerily similar this could be..

  • Neworleanssooner says:

The best validation I have heard for us being ranked 3rd was this morning on college sports radio. One of the commentators(I think Rick Neuheisel) said, “out of the current top 10 ranked teams, who could beat Oklahoma the way they are playing right now?” The realistic answer was Bama and maybe Clemson. That was the best explanation I have heard.

    • Sooner Ray says:

That’s fine but where is the evidence that bama could beat Oklahoma?

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

law of averages mainly, someday Bama will be able to beat OU, well maybe

      • Neworleanssooner says:

I guess that was assumed by the 2 hosts because it is widely believed that Bama is “playing the best” right now. Their words not mine. As Sooner fans we damn sure don’t believe it!

      • Fear The Magic says:

On a neutral field Id call the game a toss up. Saban would still struggle against our hurry up offense. And I think our D is playing as well as anyone including Bamas right now.

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

I agree the game outcome would most likely be close, but I think Bama has the edge on the D line. Their D line would give us fits on our O line. But I think we would manage to score more points than they could with their one-dimensional offense.

          • soonerthunder says:

I don’t think it’s any better than our DL. I wouldn’t trade Bond/Striker for anyone they have in a similar position. I wouldn’t trade any of their two for Walker and Tapper. Sorry, I don’t buy it. Bama has good athletes, but I don’t worship them. We fail to see how good our guys are many times–familiarity breeds contempt and b/c of the SEC/ESPN koolaid. Sorry, I don’t think they have a better DL than us.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

To clarify a bit – I think the combination of the quality of their D line versus the challenges of our O line would cause us problems. I didn’t say one D line was better than the other D line. Just speaking to the particular matchup that I feel favors Bama.

          • soonerthunder says:

Besides, OSU and Bay have pretty good DLmen too. And our OL have to go against our DL every day.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

True, our O line is making progress. Not there yet though. TCU kept beating us in second half.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

They were one dimensional the year we beat them in the Sugar Bowl but they still managed to put up a bunch of yards/points.

Not sure why OU fans can’t admit that is a good Bama team. A game against them would be a battle for sure.

          • Snr4Life says:

They had Amari Cooper and Henry that year, about as one dimensional as OU this year with Perine and Shep. Wasn’t their QB a heisman finalist that year?

          • SoonerfanTU says:

            2013 –
            Rushing yards per game: 206
            Passing yards per game: 249
            Points per game: 38
Key offensive players: McCarron (QB rating of 167), Yeldon, Cooper

            2015 –
            Rushing yards per game: 199
            Passing yards per game: 299
            Points per game: 35
Key offensive players: Coker (QB rating of 138), Henry, Ridley

Ridley is having a better year than Cooper did, and Henry is having a better year than Yeldon. McCarron was the better QB though.

          • DCinAZ says:

They weren’t one dimensional in any way shape or form that year.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

Then they aren’t one dimensional this year either.

      • Recondo says:

I think the 4 best teams are pretty clearly Clemson, Bama, OU, & MSU. Any one could beat the others on any given day. I would rank Iowa ahead of Bama however based on record & scheduling.

        • soonerthunder says:

I think MSU gets left out on any one could beat the others on a given day. I think OU and Clemson esp will score pts, and I don’t see mSU doing much of that myself.

      • soonerthunder says:

Exactly. Who’s good in the SEC? Ole’ Miss can score and look what they did to Bama. I’ll stack our D against theirs. And we can put pressure on their D. They don’t like a 2nd and long and not having time to put in players suited for the pass, or 3rd and short and not having time to substitute more DL or big LBs to stop the run. We scored 45 on them with this same team, only 2 yrs younger, and a FR TK at QB and a worst O. I’m not saying we would again, but I am saying where’s the evidence Bama could beat us? I thought we could beat them 2 yrs ago and people got angry at me for saying it. I definitely have more confidence this year that we could beat them with most of the team the same and two yrs older and better, WITH new and better players to boot (Mayfield, Andrews, bond, J Thomas, Mixon, Westbrooke, Walker, etc.).

    • Sooner Ray says:

That’s fine but where is the evidence that bama could beat Oklahoma?

  • MoJoOkie says:

Happy Thanksgiving TFB and all my kindred souls. I am Thankful for this board and its inhabitants. I started to bore you with my background, but decided otherwise. Suffice it to say that I have been blessed in my life (not always, but ultimately) and am Thankful for it. Have a great holiday. Beat the pokes. And Boomer!!!

  • Scott says:

Hey TFB do you guy’s know if Oklahoma will offer Chip Viney a job ? Like a position coach or recruiting coordinator.

    • RBear says:

Or ST coach… anything. I think at least one recruit is waiting to see if he’s hired.

    • Steve Cooke says:

A poster on OUInsider has said there is already something done with Viney. So take it with a grain of salt but he has shown to be reliable.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Unless a position coach leaves I can’t see them firing someone to make room for him. However, they could make him a “quality control” coach or a recruiting coordinator or something.

  • bjwalker82 says:

Still a game to be played on Saturday. Hope the players aren’t getting ahead of themselves like Sooner Nation seems to be.

  • KJ1123 says:

Pretty cool poster of the kid….going to be a good one.
    https://twitter.com/OU_CoachHill/status/669320339768262656

    • BigJoeBrown says:

      That’s a slick poster…nice!

      • KJ1123 says:

Yep pretty slick, I’m glad the OL is getting a little love.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

does Samia move to RG if Frison is the real deal next year?

          • KJ1123 says:

I think it’s a strong possibility. Samia can play both positions. It’s obviously just a matter of who can play each of the positions the best. I honestly think the only 2 people that will have a hold on a starting job will be Samia and Brown. Not to say Alvarez can’t start, but I’m not sure where he will start and which redshirts will step up.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

I figured Alvarez would slide down to Center

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Yes, it seems like center is his best spot right now.

          • KJ1123 says:

He’ll definitely be the most experienced. But I’m curious to see how Ford, Evans and Hearne play. I hear that Ford is a pretty good, albeit raw, interior lineman.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

The fact OU isnt really stressing OL recruiting tells me they think they have some good young talent

  • BigJoeBrown says:

The Barbershop! That looks great….gonna have to Redbox that one.

  • Bill Holder says:

Any chance Mike gets another shot as a head coach? Not hearing his name mentioned for any of the jobs now open.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

I think the emotional outbursts are hurting his chances at HFC job.

    • RBear says:

IMO, that ship sailed through Arizona, never know though.

    • BigJoeBrown says:

No, at least not right away perhaps if OU is able to show consistancy. The coach I think we will have to worry about is Riley. Another year or so and he will be a hot commodity, with teams willing to pay up for him.

      • RBear says:

I think Riley and Cale can run OU once Stoops retires.

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

Yeah, I’ve wondered how we can keep Riley after a couple of years of success. Sure don’t want to lose him. He’s gold I tell ya. Pure gold.

        • Recondo says:

He will be gone in a couple years barring a coach in waiting scenario. That’s ok though. He’s a talentef coordinator and shouldn’t be held back.

      • j l says:

He already is. Im hearing his name for the iowa state job.

    • KJ1123 says:

I dont think so, and honestly I don’t know if he wants to. I think Linc will get interest before Mike.

  • soonerjunky says:

I think I’m the only one that wants to play Iowa in the first playoff game, then play Clemson or Bama in the Championship. I don’t think Iowa will still be in the playoffs, but that would be ideal to me.
    Have to beat O-State first

  • CW says:

Does anyone know the salaries of the coaches we brought in last spring?

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

Oklahoma: 68 percent predicted win percentage (6.3 predicted point differential)

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

Oklahoma: 68 percent predicted win percentage (6.3 predicted point differential)

  • leatherneck1061 says:

So David Pollack has pushed the narrative that OU’s wins over Baylor and TCU were just beating the backups since both were without their starting qb. I’d sure like to know if this moron said the same thing when LSU was ranked #2 and their only “notable” victory was over a Florida team that rolled into Death Valley literally 5 days after losing their starting qb for the season.

    • KJ1123 says:

I’d like to see him and Herbie get into a debate. Some of Pollacks arguments are head scratchers.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

They pair him up on Thursday nights with Jesse Palmer so he sounds smart

      • Recondo says:

I can’t remember Palmer ever saying anything that made me want to kick him in the face through my television screen. I’d actually love to see a show with him, Klatt, and Herbie. It would probably be the smartest, most balanced thing in CFB.

    • PLAW0720 says:

I would venture to say that most big 12 backups are better than 90% of the sec starters. Or, how many sec starters would start at the top 5 big 12 schools?

    • lefty67 says:

This, or how about 3 of Clemson’s bigger wins (Louisville, Notre Dame, & Florida St.) being over teams that were on their backup QB’s? You NEVER hear that mentioned on TV.

    • Clint Lenard says:

Honestly, Pollack and that Trevor whateverhisnameis are 2 dudes that I ignore. Like literally, my brain doesn’t even accept to acknowledge their voices. Same with Skip Bayless.

    • Hotrod33 says:

They can say whatever they want, the fact is they were still rated in the top 25 and in the second half of the TCU game, we didn’t have our qb. At the end of the season and sometimes at the start, you don’t have your best players so are they going to punish every team that doesn’t play against the other teams best players? Everyone still has to play no matter who is out there. They just want to make OU look bad no matter what. They can kiss my arse.

  • leatherneck1061 says:

So here is an article from CBS sports saying we’re totally overrated. Like with Golic, it really seems like a lot of these people have never actually seen the Sooners play – they just act incredulous like they can’t believe we’re even in the conversation. I hope our guys are seeing all this. I hope they know how much they are being disrespected by these goons in the sports media. They need to remember they still have a lot to prove. Well, the whole CFB world will definitely be watching Saturday – let’s get this thing done boys.

    http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/25388602/judging-the-college-football-playoff-rankings-sooners-gators-overrated

    • Recondo says:

I actually commented on the article last night and this is the only place I ever post comments. That article is logically inconsistent, supported by zero facts, and was obviously written by a dimwit. Fornelli is a Jerry’s Kid. Funny thing is, I agree that MSU is underrated but you can’t say they are awesome for never leading in two victories and then say we are overrated for winning by 1 point against a top 15 opponent. Also, you can’t say TCU had injuries to key players but ignore OU’s injuries in the 2nd half, especially when OU was in complete control up to that point.

      • Clint Lenard says:

He also cites MSU and UM as top 10 teams, but let’s be realistic… UM would be where they are now and MSU would be maybe top 20 if that bad snap would’ve never happened.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

      Send it to the team.

    • DCinAZ says:

Seeing a LOT of unprofessional sports “journalism” hatred of OU out there right now. ESPN’s conduct about OU after the rating show last night was pathetic and the turd that wrote that article in your link is clearly a moron who didn’t watch the game.

      • SE Sooner says:

ESPN has alotta Sec, Big10, and ND mouthpieces that they employ . But thankfully their poster boy for college football , Herbstriet , has been a Sooners advocate big time since Waco . I guess that’s what happens when you actually watch a game

      • Boomer4life says:

Well…there is really only one way to shut them up. ..and that’s just win!

  • Okie403 says:

With no classes today on campus, anybody have an idea on practice time(s)..? Or if everyone practiced? Mixon was due back and never heard anything on Flowers after his episode on Sat….

    • SoonerinLondon says:

I heard Mixon was on crutches yesterday, but that is not so unusual these days. Boots and crutches seem pretty common.

    • blaster1371 says:

What episode are referring to in regard to,Flowers?

  • Brien Brown says:

Just a quick note on Sterling Shepard and his numbers and all since his Freshman year, noting that everyone says we won’t have anyone to replace him and this is true cause well there is only one Sterling Shepard! Stats from Freshman year through this point in the season! Fr. 45 Rec, 621 Yards, 3 TD’s. Soph 51 Rec, 603 Yards, 7 TD’s. Jr. 51 Rec. 970 Yards, 5 TD’s. Sr. 69 Rec 1,114 Yards, 10 TD’s. Now here is the guys opposite him and what they have done, Fr Year. Stills 82 Rec, 959 Yards 11 TD’s, Brown 73 Rec, 879 Yards, 5 TD’s, Saunders 62 Rec, 829 Yards, 3 TD’s. Soph Year. Saunders 61 Rec, 729 Yards, 8 TD’s. Jr Year. Neal, 42 Rec, 513 Yards, 3 TD’s. Sr. Year, Westbrook 41 Rec, 648 Yards, 4 TD’s and Neal 41 Rec, 505 Yards, and 3 TD’s. My point to this is that really his Fr year he was the #4 guy, Soph year the #2 guy, and the last 2 years clearly the #1 guy, now JR year was a bit misleading due to lack of other great WR’s and let’s be honest a top talent QB, cause outside of Neal and Shepard last year the next guy was Quick with 25 and he got like 17 of those in the last 2 games of the year. Think our WR core will be fine cause we have a QB that can spread the ball around and let’s not rule out us getting a top WR to come in knowing they will have a good chance to make an impact next year with, Neal and Shepard both gone. Just some numbers to look at and my POV which is not worth much. Have a great Thanksgiving friends and BOOMER!

Happy Thanksgiving to all TFBer’s! And to Baker Mayfield, without whose assistance (and persistence) we’d not be #3 in the CFP right now. A walk-on and starting QB at 2 D-1 programs (and the B12’s Offensive Newcomer of the Year), the kid is now a Heisman candidate and looking to lead us to #8. That has to be a movie script in the making. Here’s hoping it has a happy ending!

Just want to say Happy Thanksgiving to each and everyone you. I’m thankful for my family and friends. No matter if we agree or disagree on what the topic at hand is we all share one common thing and that is the love of the OU program. This sylvie kid is awesome. I’m sure this is reference to talking Williams into a visit. Although if he comes to the state of Oklahoma I bet he goes to osu. His brother is already committed and I don’t think we have room to take his brother and risk running off Parker or Cobb who are better.

      • Lincoln Hawk says:

If that’s the case he needs to quit messing with my emotions. LOL. Booms should be reserved for confirmed commits only! But I do agree, he is awesome and doing a great job trying to get some studs to come with him.

It’s ashame since this was one of the few times osu had the talent to compete back then and their was an impressive amount of talent on the field on both teams that we didn’t get to truly shine and compete because of the weather.

        • Sooner Ray says:

A bit of irony, we were ranked #3 in the country for that game.

          • Budbarrybob Budbarrybob says:

Yep. Although this was shown to most of the country, the syracuse v. WV game was shown in their region during this game. I am not aware of espn showing regional games back then. Wonder if that was espn’s backup plan if OU/osu decided to move this primetime game to 2:30 since that was being considered to avoid the massive ice. As a sidenote, you will see the goof they make at the start with the WV and syracuse helmet logos representing OU and OSU during the pregame… lol

        • paganpink says:

OSU is always “one step away,” “loaded with talent” and bothered by the “bad officiating,” “weather,” or “the wrong coach for OSU.” THAT’S WHO THEY ARE.

    • blaster1371 says:

I remember that night. I was a freshman at OU. I worked at Sears out at the Sooner Fashion Mall. Management called me and two other guys in to unload and load trucks with catalogue orders and returns. I was so pissed. I knew those trucks weren’t going anywhere until the thaw the next day. We busted our butts for six hours so we could get home to watch the game. Took me 45 minutes to drive all the way across Norman but I caught the second half. Went to wrk the next morning at eight; trucks were still there, power was out and I was sent home at 10.
