  • Bart Young says:

All this talk about OU/TX being one sided this year, etc. is making me uneasy. This will be a game and OU needs to come out with their hair on fire.

    • cdzendolet says:

Agreed; we thought it was in the bag in ’13 as well…

      • Stephen Dale says:

Texas dominated everywhere but on the scoreboard last year, too….Will agree, OU needs a good start , ZERO turnovers, and fewer penalties…….

    • SamSooner says:

Have the fellas turn off all outlets to the media. I would shield them from all things texsa. Prep for texsa as if they’re ranked #1, then beat the hell out of them.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

I think OU should win comfortably, but I think texas is much better than a lot of people give them credit for. Without a couple of really stupid ST mistakes, and they pretty easily could have beaten Cal and OSU, two pretty solid teams.

    • Golfluvr13 says:

I agree. The shorthorn game is always the game I am nervous about. Throw out the records, stats, and everything else. It is pure hate and nothing else matters. I think the shorthorns are far better than their record states. I expect a dog fight in the first half, but I think we pull away in the second half.

  • cdzendolet says:

    Boomer! Sooner! Texas! Sucks!

  • Brad Warren says:

Re:MNF- why even have replay if it’s not comprehensive? That no call last night on Seattle defender intentionally knocking ball out of end zone, was just ridiculous. How can they not get that one right? Luckily, I don’t care about either team but we all know how that feels when it happens to us. It’s nonsensical for a game deciding play not to be reviewed and called correctly.

    • Golfluvr13 says:

Illegal batting of the ball is a non-reviewable play. Which is nuts, because almost everything is reviewable in the NoFunLeague.

  • Brad Warren says:

Also, Saban sure gets butthurt when the media isn’t kissing his ace. He’s a bit psycho in the press conferences.

    • Stephen Dale says:

I noticed the same thing, too…..as long as Bama is winning, Saban can get by with that dictatorial attitude…

  • Sooner Ray says:

Would love for Ross to open the game taking one to the house.

    • cdzendolet says:

I’m disappointed that he hasn’t been getting any snaps at RB. Don’t know what he did during camp to drop out of the RB rotation, or maybe Brooks was just better during camp, but Ross proved last year that he could be a big play RB. I think he deserves another shot with some RB snaps instead of pretty much doing nothing except KR this year.

      • Cam says:

Brooks just seems to fit the offense better. He’s small and shifty and has the ability to elude tackles.

      • 47 Straight OU Know says:

I was wondering this as well. Man he would be another weapon to have in the backfield.

        • guest says:

That would require the Wishbone formation… which is not a bad idea in a goal line situation, especially if the play were a counter option; RBs=Mixon and Ross, FB=Perine and QB=Trevor Knight

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

That would be nice. You’d have a blocker at the point of attack and Knight to keep or pitch. But Mayfield can run it as a wrinkle and I’d feel more comfortable having him pass out of it as well.

          • guest says:

I think a counter-option pass would be fantastic to see (I ran the wishbone, back in the Jurassic period…the most fun plays for me was the counter option and the counter option pass)

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Why in the world would you give Ross running back snaps when we have Perine and Mixon, don’t run the ball a ton, thought we had Anderson, and have a capable Brooks who is a better fit to run in this offense?

I’ll never understand the fascination with Ross.

        • Jared William Reininger says:

I don’t either. Id o think if you get him off tackle or on a toss play, Ross might be effective, but anything that is between the tackles is not going to work for him, not with last years OLine and certainly not this years. He is quick, but can’t shrug off a hit very well.

        • BoomerDave says:

          Exactly!!

        • cdzendolet says:

I just would have figured going into the season that if anyone took snaps outside of Perine/Mixon, it would have been Ross, not Brooks. Ross averaged like 6 YPC or something like that last year, so he proved he could run the ball, and he has quite a bit of speed. I just hate seeing a guy who was All-American caliber KR and who was pretty competent as a RB wallow in obscurity with lack of KR opportunities (or bad special teams blocking) and no RB snaps.

          • Stephen Dale says:

the new offensive scheme doesn’t fit Ross’s skill set…..its more effective with the smurfs at RB ( think TT ) or OU’s Quinton Griffin.—-guys who excellent lateral quickness and good eyes……..

          • MrBigsby says:

Doesn’t really fit Perine either. He’s a big back that should get the handoff moving downhill, not from a dead stop.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Problem is the holes made for Perine were taking advantage of by Perine whereas Ross went down after being hit.

        • Josh says:

The fascination with Ross is you give him a hole and he is 88 and out the gate, goodbye! Problem is my man needs a huge hole and has zero lateral movement. But man when he runs it is pretty.

      • BoomerDave says:

Ross was our 5th RB before Anderson got hurt. To put him in means you take out Perine or That makes little sense to me. I’m still wanting more carries for Mixon, not Ross.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Horns would quit 5 seconds into the game

          Great!

  • MrBigsby says:

Dang it….I actually wanted to read a TW article, but subscription required.

    • Sooner Ray says:

You are better off, I read it and wasn’t impressed.

      • MrBigsby says:

Figured as much, just frustrating when a linked article is blocked. Oh well, by the headline I can pretty much sum up the article anyway!

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Is anyone worried about taking the whorns too lightly?

    • Sooner Ray says:

      Of course.

    • Chad says:

Absolutely! They will be very pumped up for this game and they have nothing to lose.

    • Birddawg says:

No, too many outspoken leaders on this team to let a good opportunity to bury the whorns as one of the worst teams in their schools history.

    • metzker says:

      Yes very scary game

    • Brad Warren says:

No. Not this team. Difference being Baker Mayfield.

      • Jared William Reininger says:

I agree. Last year it seemed Striker was the only one with that fire that kept him wanting to play regardless….this year he has Baker which I think having someone else with that same fire works WONDERS for you. And it seems this team is close and tight knit. Something I think has been missing for a while. Texas on the other hand seems to have a civil war on their hands. I don’t think we sleep on them and I think we hang half a hundred on em….at least.

Also I still don’t think OSwho or Cal are nearly as good as people claim….good teams but not elite teams by any means.

      • Scott says:

This team wants to be champions , they have the ” will power and confidence and the swagger of a team chasing to be Number 1

    • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

The difference I see is, the 2013 Texsa team had a couple of wins (ugly wins, but wins nonetheless) coming into the game and still some cohesion. This year? Their locker room sounds more and more like a scene in Mean Girls.

    • Matt says:

it sounds like most of the team and staff have been bringing up 2013 a lot so hopefully that’s driving them. I would love to watch them put up half a hundred

    • Golfluvr13 says:

Listening to Stoops talk, I do not think so. I believe the team will be focused.

      • paganpink says:

He knows better. I think Coach Stoops is always cautious about taking any opponent too lightly, and rivalry games are always a different kind of animal especially since a win this year would help validate their horrible season and give them hope. THERE SHOULD BE NO HOPE. OU-62, UT-14.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Someone should tell Strong that the little mock turtleneck thingy he wears is hideous.

  • SamSooner says:

There are players on this team that remember what happened two years ago. If I was the OC, score until the clock runs out. If I’m the DC, hold to zero points and blitz, blitz, blitz. Beat the hell out of the QB until he cries uncle. Don’t stop hitting him until he’s not in the game.

Beat texsa because that’s what we do. No pitty party for them.

  • Sam Philbeck says:

There is a new movie coming out called “Triple 9” and it’s got a pretty awesome cast, well the trailer came out last night and it looks pretty great. Check it out, it’s definitely NSFW lol.

Bone Tomahawk looks pretty entertaining. Anything with Kurt Russell I’ll watch, especially a western.

  • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

    OUr dear Sooners,

Good morning. How are you? We are well. Just wanted to say, we the faniacs are pumped about the direction you’re headed. Our expectations are high. Please keep up the good work, and we humbly ask you make the effort to…

hear !! hear !! . OU to win this Saturday in Dallas……will take a 1 pt victory but hoping for a emphatic win…

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

I chuckled about the Allstate commercial, “Is it a misprint?” when I saw the news OU gets a 2:30 game

  • Golfluvr13 says:

    Yes please!

  • Eric Hoffpauir says:

I absolutely love that Striker poster. With a win this weekend, it would go great in my Sooners room.

    • Walter Sobcek says:

I want a Sooners’ room! That does it – I’m moving the kids to the basement and turning their bedroom into a Sooner room.

  • Matt says:

does anyone know a site that publishes missed tackles stats? I would love to see where the Sooner defense ranks in that this year. Tackling seems much improved to me.

  • rainydaze114 says:

I get the feeling the OU is going to have to wipe the field with Texas if they truly want to assert themselves as a legit contender… a la TCU. That said, I’m betting on it happening. 58-12 OU.

    • John Garner says:

saxeT is going to play us tougher than they did TCU. It’s the RRR and they having nothing to lose. The O-Line will need to step up.

    • Fear The Magic says:

I’d be very surprised if we blow them out. OU/ Tex is a different animal. I might be in the minority but I’ll be happy with any win we can get.

      • Perry Dickey says:

Here here! However, I want us to win because we played clean and sharp and improved. Not because they puke oranged the place.

    • Walter Sobcek says:

Nah, just need a win. I expect a much closer game.

  • Josh says:

How does Hoover have a job? Starts off saying mark it down its going to be a blowout and finishes by telling all the reasons it is going to be a tough game. How do these people stay employed? Do they read what they write, do their editors? Is it not enough that these morons haven’t asked a good question in 15 yrs but as writers shouldn’t they stumble upon a well crafted article every now and then?

  • Josh says:

2013 was all about Colt Jr playing 100 times better than any game he had ever played. Unless Heard channels his inner VY, this game will be beat down.

  • dallassooner says:

I hope this is a cake walk but geez the message boards read like Texas doesn’t even need to show up. In reality Texas has lost to teams with a combined 19-1 record and are an extra point and dropped punt away from being 3-2 with wins over two top 25 teams. Their performance last week was embarrassing, I just hope they don’t put it all together for a game in the Cotton Bowl like so many other average/bad Oklahoma and Texas teams have.

    • Golfluvr13 says:

The shorthorns can lose every game of the year, but when it comes to playing the Sooners they will be ready to go. It never fails.

      • Walter Sobcek says:

Yep. That’s what a rivarly game is all about. And this isn’t just a game – it’s a rumble.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

I keep reminding myself that Texsa team has a ton of players that we tried to recruit also. So, they have talent but just haven’t put it together yet. It is our mission to make sure that is delayed for yet another week.

    • Malicong says:

I am always a on guard when there is talk of a one-sided RRR. Texas has athletes. They can win if OU doesn’t come out strong. If we continue to see the stupid penalties, turnovers, and the running game struggle it may be a tight game.
On the flip side of that, I am not convinced that Cal or OSU will stay in the top 25. Cal is giving up nearly 400 YPG and is likely looking at a reality check/3-4 game losing streak. They play @Utah, @UCLA, USC, and Oregon their next 4.
OSU is underperforming and doesn’t look like a team that deserves to be undefeated. They have no running game, a suspect O-Line, and their D has yet to play a team with an offensive pulse. I have a feeling they will be exposed this weekend @WVU.

      • dallassooner says:

I’m not convinced that Tennessee or West Virginia will stay in the top 25. Which makes me wonder who we have beaten.

        • Golfluvr13 says:

WVU will be back in the top 25 after they throttle little brother this weekend. Tennessee is imploding right now. They are much better than their record indicates and they really beat themselves this past weekend.

        • guest says:

I think Ohio State, Alabama, Baylor and TCU continue to be the standard bearers to compare all other team’s progress.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Alabama cannot beat ole miss. I don’t think they belong in that statement.

          • Matt says:

I wouldn’t take Bama in any playoff until they beat a spread team because they will play spread teams in the playoff. NOBODY is beating Bama with I-Formation. We get that. But I can’t see Bama beating a spread team with a pulse.

        • Matt says:

I think WVU beats TCU. I would love for TCU to be undefeated when OU plays them in Norman but I don’t see it happening.

        • Malicong says:

Since both have already fallen out, I can’t really argue with that. I think WVU is better than Cal and possibly OSU but who knows how many they lose this year. Tennessee is a mystery. They have ton s of talent but find a way to lose. At this point they may be looking at fighting for a bowl game let alone worry about being ranked.

      • Golfluvr13 says:

I agree with you! Cal is just not very good at all. OSwho really could have lost their last two games if the refs were competent. And KSU was playing a WR at QB for most of the game due to injuries. I think WVU is going to destroy them this week.

The shorthorns always have talent. And I honestly believe that Strong is a decent coach (defensively) and will have his defense ready to play. The game will really be determined by OUr defense stopping Heard from making plays and stopping the run (something we have not done all year). I really believe it will be a tight hard fought victory for the Sooners.

      • Exiled In Ohio says:

OSU at WVU may get ugly.

      • Walter Sobcek says:

I totally agree. How many times have we seen the inferior team win the Red River Rumble because they wanted it more, or the ball bounced their way. Anyone who takes this game for granted does not know the history. UT will be angry and desperate, and that can be dangerous. OU needs to take care of the ball and take care of business.

  • Daddy R says:

In the gif above (with the bewildered texsa fans,) the girl behind and to the left of the two dudes, totally looks like she just saw a ufo that no one else notices.

    • Golfluvr13 says:

I had not noticed that until you pointed it out. LOL! And she is kind of smiling.

    • PCSooner says:

I think she noticed all of Texas’ hopes and dreams actually flying right out of the stadium. Or she’s a Sooner fan in enemy territory and enjoying their misery.

  • @Boom_Town_ says:

That first tweet looks familiar. πŸ™‚

  • Rick says:

I find myself at somewhat of a quandary. As a life long Sooner fan, I’m always really, really, really good with a big win over Texas, however, this year I find myself feeling sorry for Coach Strong. I think he’s a very good coach, he has proven himself prior to Texas as a good if not great coach. He is absolutely destined to his 5th loss of the year, this week, and probably not going to be even close. He has problems in the Texas administration, no athletic director, problems in the locker room, and most of all many, many problems on the field. Texas is a “talented” team that is not much of a team right now. 11 individuals wearing the same uniform doesn’t make a team. I don’t really see anywhere on the field, they can compete with us. I don’t think they can defend against us, I don’t think they can score on us (without something unforseen, defender falls down, fumble in the end zone, earthquake on our side of the field, etc.) Our kickers are more proficient, we “have” a QB, our RB’s are better, our maturing O line is better, I can’t find anywhere the horns have an edge. I fully expect to see 3 of our QB’s to throw TD passes this week, I expect 3 of our RBs to eclipse the 100 yrd mark, I expect our D to produce a couple of TDs, through turnovers and stifle a strugling Texas offense. I will be elated to see our record go to 5-0, but feel a little bit sad for Coach S (Texas nation, or the team not so much, just the coach)

    • Exiled In Ohio says:

I have sympathy for Texas also. About as much sympathy as I have for roadkill.

      • SamSooner says:

I’m with you. I can’t say that I respect Strong very much after the Lampkin debacle: it was mishandled and shame on him for participating.

What’s going on with Charlie and texsa is his problem. If you stop to pick it up, you own it. I wouldn’t pick up roadkill. I hope OU scores so many points they have to go out and buy a new score board to accommodate three-digit points.

That’s their problem. And if we feel sorry for them, and lose, that’s our problem. Treat them as if they’re ranked #1.

OU has a brand issue that texsa can help us fix. I like my steak medium-well.

    • Dick Bump says:

I understand the sympathy, but I’ve seen us blow it or get screwed in this game so many times over the years, I’ll be happy with a win. If it results in an embarrassment to UT fans, I can live with the guilt…./s.

    • soonerinks says:

Your sympathy is terribly misplaced. /s

    • Perry Dickey says:

Bluuch. Feel sorry for him? The tact he’s taken since his announcement as their coach could only have gone one of two ways. Great or dismal. Touting himself as the honorable disciplinarian without backing it up on the field was a recipe for disaster. You can’t watch his team play the game and not see how disorganized and undisciplined they really are. He’s just a hoorah cheerleader for the nutless horns.

    • Bill Holder says:

If you find yourself feeling sorry for him, just remember he tried to block Lampkin from coming here. Sure wish DL could play Saturday……Guess we will have to wait til next Oct.

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

Anyone think that freshman punter for Texsa will be nervous in the Cotton Bowl? If he was terrified at home, then this is going to be a all-out panic of epic proportions. I sense multiple scores on them in special teams play.

    • BobBarker69 says:

If we would put a different guy back there returning punts, I’d agree.

    • Walter Sobcek says:

Texas got all the special teams screwups out of their system, I’m afraid. Should be able to get a couple of picks, though.

  • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Only have a few days to get these all in. Because some on this site get offended when you post hate texsa stuff all year. So here’s for the whiners.

  • BobBarker69 says:

Who do you guys want to see returning punts?

I’d be happy with Mixon, Quick, or Brooks. Not to say Shep is bad at it. But he’s not the best, and he’s too valuable imo.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

There are likely to be many, many punts for one team so we may need multiple players to field them due to returner fatigue. πŸ™‚

  • Golfluvr13 says:

For just 6 cents a day, you can save Bevo! LOL

  • guest says:

I don’t understand why the university of Texas “longhorns” would put a silhouette of a uterus on their helmet and wear it as the team’s mascot. Seriously. It’s just odd to me. I looked in a textbook of human anatomy and there it was, a uterus with two uterine tubes extending from either side. A different human anatomy atlas I used to confirm my findings called the uterine tubes “fallopian” tubes. But I guest in Austin, they’re called “longhorns”. It’s just an odd thing to do, in my humble opinion.

  • blaster1371 says:

This morning out here in CA a breeze was blowing from west to the east…… Reminded me of that ageless wonder called Texass suckage.

  • Bill Holder says:

I have the feeling that Texsa sells out to stop the run and is successful at doing so. That should really open things up for Baker and Boys. Just hope we don’t waste a lot of plays on trying if the running game isn’t there.

    • Walter Sobcek says:

Well, LR like to keep hitting the inside runs to keep the defense clogged in the middle. It may not produce a lof of yards, but it opens up the pass game.

  • Walter Sobcek says:

Just turned on espn and caught the latest love fest for Alabama. Gee, you’d almost think they hadn’t already lost this season. To Ole MIss. Again.
