    Morning Got KELLY.

  • Corey Muller says:

Glad too see Kelly helped so many of us through the night.

  • Ruffneck737 says:

    Good morning Sooner family.

  • Golfluvr13 says:

Well based on that article that Jordan posted about CBS Sports (I will forever call it CBSSportsline) I will never go back there to read anything! WOW!

    • SoonerMagic76 says:

That was a rough read…. it’s easy to see the trend away from journalism and reporting in everything – news, sports, music, movies, whatever – but that’s still pretty rough

  • cush creekmont says:

Good Morning Braniacs! Great day to be a Sooner with all OUr NEW Sooners officially set.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

It is a great day to be a Sooner Fan. I like our team and think we added lots of players that can help.

      • cush creekmont says:

        Seconded!

      • StL Sooner says:

        Thirded?

        • Golfluvr13 says:

          Motion passes! 🙂

          • cush creekmont says:

Only because the “dissenters” aren’t up yet –

          • StL Sooner says:

            Shhh! Don’t wake them either!

          • Golfluvr13 says:

            Should we build a moat?

          • StL Sooner says:

Fill it with gators and line the banks with armed TFBers!

          • Golfluvr13 says:

            Oh yeah! Sign me up!

          • SamSooner says:

Did you read the “Odd Thomas” series by Dean Koontz. The main character, Odd Thomas, can see dead people. He can also see boggarts. Boggarts come around when death is about to happen. The more horrifying or demonic the deaths, the more boggarts. If everything is cool, boggarts don’t come out.

I would not expect to see any trolls today, as there shouldn’t be any negative news.

Our negative nellies and trolls shall, from this day forward, be known as boggarts.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I haven’t read that series, but I will add it to my list!

          • SamSooner says:

There are about five books. Great character.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I’m about finished with my Repairman Jack series by F. Paul Wilson. That is a really good series. You might want to check it out. Jack is a repairman, but not of appliances. He fixes problems that the law may not want to get involved with:
            http://www.orderofbooks.com/characters/repairman-jack/

          • SamSooner says:

I’ll check it out. I always try to keep a book going.

          • Gladdman says:

Have you read the Jack Reacher series of books. Kind of the same genre.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Yes I have. Those are a great set of books as well.

          • StL Sooner says:

Didn’t read that, but appreciate the highlights. ?boggarts! ? % boggart ? zone ‼️‼️

          • cush creekmont says:

Reapers in Supernatural and Dead Like Me, but whatever they are – there WERE some here yesterday!

          • SamSooner says:

They were kind of crunchy, yesterday. Crunchy is the word we use around my house: it’s code for having a bad day.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

We use farkle. If you have ever played the game farkle you will know that brings a bit of a laugh.

          • SamSooner says:

I have not but I will.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

It’s a frustrating game at times. You have to roll 500 points on dice to get on the board. If you end up with 0 points it’s called a farkle.

          • cush creekmont says:

My uncle had a great code word when he used to have salesmen call on his company. Whenever he wanted to say Bulls**t, he would actually say “fantastic.” The salesmen would smile and think they were doing great.

          • SamSooner says:

            LMAO.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

            That’s FANTASTIC information. 🙂 JK.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

            ROTFLOL!

          • Golfluvr13 says:

            ROTFLOL!

          • AgedBill says:

            Now, that is funny!

          • Golfluvr13 says:

            Love me some Supernatural!

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

I guess that boggart is a lot like the nursing home cat who would lay on the bed of the next in line to pass through the surly bonds of Earth and on to Heaven. The cat could sense it somehow. Always thought that was amazing.

          • SamSooner says:

Oh, another reason to dislike cats. Uggh.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

The only good cat is a stir fried cat – Alf

          • SamSooner says:

            YOU SICK PUPPY!!!

            YOU SUCK!!!

          • Golfluvr13 says:

LOL! Are you telling me you have never seen ALF?

          • SamSooner says:

            I did. Hilarious.

          • Bob Edwards says:

They are good for cleaning toilets. Put some toilet cleaner in the bowl. Pick up the cat and gently stroke him to calm him then quickly throw him in the toilet and slam the lid. Sit on the lid to prevent the cat from getting out. After a few minutes of spinning in the toilet the cat’s fur will make the toilet nice and shiney clean. Just be sure when you release the cat to have the front door open so the cat can leave as fast as possible. This also has the benefit of never seeing the cat again.

          • David Morris says:

            I need to try that!

          • David Morris says:

            I need to try that!

          • SamSooner says:

            Bob, is that you?

          • Bob Edwards says:

It’s me. Cat’s and I have always had a disagreement about who’s in charge. Let’s just say I don’t lose.

          • David Morris says:

Sounds like we have had similar issues with cats.

          • David Morris says:

Sam Sam Sam, I love that book series, and great analogy. I love that you made an Odd Thomas reference.

          • SamSooner says:

David, I have all of his books, even the ones written under a pen name.

          • David Morris says:

I don’t have all of them yet, but have been working on it. He has so many, and everyone I’ve read has been awesome.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I have read a few of Koontz’s books, and I have liked them.

          • David Morris says:

The Odd Thomas, and Chris Snow series are pretty good if you have not read them.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I will add both to my list. I love to read so I will check them out.

          • SamSooner says:

I just posted that. He needs to finish the Christopher Snow story. His dog was smart just like the dog, Einstein in “Watchers.” He made a sly reference to Einstein at the end of “Seize the Night.”

          • David Morris says:

Been a while since I read it, will have to read again soon.

          • David Morris says:

Been a while since I read it, will have to read again soon.

          • SamSooner says:

I recommend that you start with his early books: “The Bad Place”, “Midnight”, “Watchers”, “Lightning”, the sequesl “Fear Nothing” and “Seize the Night.” Christopher Snow is the main character in that sequel, which he needs to finish by the way.

          • David Morris says:

Could not agree more about the Chris snow series. I think the bad place is the only one of those I don’t have.

          • SamSooner says:

OMG, the main villain, Candy and his sick incestuous twin sisters. Sick stuff happening in that book. Please read it.

          • David Morris says:

            Consider it read. Sounds good.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Yeah, I’m going to have to get into that series just to read that book. LOL

          • David Morris says:

Could not agree more about the Chris snow series. I think the bad place is the only one of those I don’t have.

          • jonnyBgood says:

I will be playing the role of KING…”You don’t know anything about Sooner football. I guarantee I have played against more current OU players than all you f*&k sticks combined. This team will be lucky to eek out 4 wins and my favorite team, errrrrr our arch nemesis, Texas will be crushing fools this year! Everyone on this board not named KING is a loser and sleeps with goats. Now go sit at the kiddie table bruh (did I spell that right?)! Suck it. Oh yeah, Boomer?”

          • Bob Edwards says:

Yeah, he pretty much lost any Sooner cred when he didn’t know who Viney was. If you don’t know who Chip Viney is then you haven’t follow our recruiting in any depth.

          • Jim Casy says:

            bro, brah, bruh all acceptable

          • Golfluvr13 says:

LOL! Pretty spot on there Jonny! But he didn’t know who coach Viney was, that shows he didn’t know jack!

          • jonnyBgood says:

I tried to get along with him just as I was raised. We had gotten into a little something something earlier in the day and even replied to his “who is CV post?” with a legitimate, no spin answer in hopes of calming things down. His lack of response combined with not knowing who freaking CV was told me all I needed to know about that cat. Hilarious.

          • SamSooner says:

Well, in case TFB needs a double for King, you will have a job.

          • jonnyBgood says:

I respectfully decline my man. 🙂 This was a one-time event. After hitting send I had to run and take a Crying Game shower.

          • SamSooner says:

            Do you feel dirty? LMAO.

          • jonnyBgood says:

            Grimy is the word. ?

          • Roger Nixon says:

Yeah but how many of those boggarts were DTs? /s
(one string banjo plays in background)

          • ThatLibertyGuy says:

I am currently reading the last book of this series(“Saint Odd”). I think you are on to something there Sam, but the word is ‘bodachs”. It was pronounced ‘bo-docks’ in the movie version.

But to your point, what a great name for those who seemingly always portend bad fortune and when the worst does happen, there they are.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

They can take a hike! LOL

          • AgedBill says:

Besides, it takes some time to generate that much vitriol they spewed yesterday.

    • J.r. Kamm says:

Absolutely! Every day is a great day to be a Sooner!!

    • David Morris says:

      Good morning

  • StL Sooner says:

Can someone please locate EasTex? This place just ain’t the same without his wit and wisdom!
Come on big fella, come home to TFB. We are sorry (for yesterday’s display) and we will do better from here on out (or atleast try real hard).

    • Coach JK says:

Probably waiting for all the trolls to clear out.

    • SamSooner says:

I’m worried and just wish I knew something. You are correct; his wit and wisdom is unmatched.

TFB Mods, is it possible to e-mail EasTex using the e-mail he created his profile?
I hate to be selfish but I’m concerned.

  • Coach JK says:

Hope its back to normal today. Great to be a Sooner!!!!!

  • SoonerfanTU says:

For those that don’t think we finished strong in recruiting, just note that our 1st, 3rd, 4th, 7th, and 8th best recruits according to ESPN were all guys that we picked up the last week or so of the recruiting period. That’s a solid finish.

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

Well I didn’t think we finished all that strong. I was hoping for better, but the flurry of commitments the few days before took away from NSD a little for me. However, getting those guys 1,3,4,7,8 makes it sound a lot better.

      • SoonerNutt says:

I understand, but Jones was a really nice surprise at a position with immediate needs, and we closed with the highest rated player in the class in Kelley. To me, had we gotten Daniels back, it would have been a great, great day, because DT’s are too important to me to have zero in a class. We are stocked with young DTs, but this puts more pressure on next year’s class. Don’t like to get behind the 8-ball at any position like that. Either way, I’m happy with the guys we got. We got quality recruits, and now it is up to them to work and up to the coaches to motivate and teach.

      • soonerinks says:

We have 1 scholarship that is available so don’t think we could have done much better than we did. That leftover ship could be huge down the road when transfers start happening. Very happy with the class.

    • Jim Casy says:

IMO, this is going to be a highly underated class for a couple of years. We got some real corner stone pieces.

      • Dick Bump says:

Good OL recruits should pay off down the road.

        • Golfluvr13 says:

Amen Dick! The OL we signed are freaking HUGE! All over 315 lbs and all 6’3″ or taller! Coach B had a great class.

        • Jim Casy says:

mock depth charts are coming soon lol.
Heck I’m already wondering what to do with a guy like Bledsoe. He is going to be a beast…the leanest looking 270-275 I’ve seen in some time for a 6’5″ guy. Wondering how they are going to shape him.

      • cush creekmont says:

Just KILLER LBs – from 5* to way underrated. (obligatory sarcastic fire-Kish remark left out – well almost)

        • Golfluvr13 says:

And a couple of those LB’s are going to be absolute studs!

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

Totally agree. We are building up an army of stud LB’s that can run too. Last part is key in Big XII.

        • soonerinks says:

Fire Kish! Sorry, had to do it as it just wouldn’t be right to go all the way thru the comments without the obligatory. I have never met Kish but he seems like a very straight forward, honest man. From what I have seen and heard of him I think he would be a great neighbor and friend. One of my pet peeves is the abuse that has been heaped on him thru the years and the myth that he could not relate to younger players.

  • Coach JK says:

Headed for work, hope today is a great Sooner day and troll-free!!

    • BigJoeBrown says:

What? That is my favorite way of fishing. Maybe it’s because I’m lazy though.

    • Dick Bump says:

“Whining Day” came a little early. I bailed yesterday, too much misery and woe. I think we got some talent that will fit right in with what we have coming back, so, I agree, it’s a great day to be a Sooner.

  • Sooner BornNBred says:

Loved that story on Jon-Michael Terry. Wish more kids these days had that sense of commitment and loyalty. He knew where he wanted to go and didn’t play the games these other recruits play. Glad to have him in Norman.

  • Mr. Jones says:

Good read on JMT. Love seeing Okies stay true to the good guys.

  • Tex'ish says:

Check out this refreshing twitter post by one of our new Sooners Mykel Jones:

“Tomorrow, I no longer carry a (STAR emblem) by name. The recruiting process is over and now I am just another player until I prove otherwise. Let’s work.”

Looking forward to his leadership – Boomer!

    • David Morris says:

That is a very mature statement for someone so young.

    • Golfluvr13 says:

I love it when guys come in humble, but ready to work. Shows a ton of maturity on their part.

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

It would be interesting to follow some of the 5* kids who created a circus around their celebrity on NSD and see how their lack of humility (or sense of entitlement) holds them back. If you are a HS kid and thrown into D1 CFB – I don’t care who you are, you must have a great work ethic to succeed. Some of these kids are in for the shock of their lives. On the flip side, I bet most of OUr kids are ready to get to work.

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

        • Golfluvr13 says:

          I completely agree with you!

        • Corey Muller says:

I particularly would like to know how these kids with the very elaborate commitment videos turn out. lol

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Like the kid that signed with Georgia yesterday and they weren’t even in his top 3. That is the kinds of crap I could care less about seeing.

          • Hooknladder says:

Well we have one you can observe- his name is Caleb Kelly. Gee guys we’re talking about teenagers here- not 60 y/o grown ass men. It’s not like they were out sniffing glue, or snorting a crack or whatever! We have a great class with different personalities= as do most other teams. Bad character btw is NOT a prerequisite to BE a 5 star.

          • Slim Sooner says:

Yeah, read where one kid jumped out of a plane! Landed on an emblem of Ole Miss. Crazy.

    • Sooner BornNBred says:

Love that attitude. Dude sounds ready to get to work.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

Awesome attitude. Love the humility of this kid.

    • SamSooner says:

      Tex’ish, good morning.

That’s what I’m talking about. People are paying too much attention to the stars and not enough to the character kids Bob is recruiting. Selflessness is what it takes to win championships.

      • Hooknladder says:

Yeah, but in Mykel’s case he IS a 4 star rated player; we DO have a highly “rated class” and it would be higher except we had fewer schollies to give and for some reason they penalize you for that. Anyway Mykel was a GREAT pickup!!!!

        • SoonerSpock says:

The services do not penalize you for having fewer scholarships to offer. They reward classes that sign more players with higher star ratings. Do you think our class would have/should have been ranked higher had we got the commitments of Jared Mayden, Marcel Southall and Chis Daniels. For certain it would have been a higher ranked and better class.

Rivals ranked the OU class at #19 of the 18 classes ranked higher 15 had classes with a higher average star rating. Only UCLA, Florida and Stanford’s classes were ranked higher than the Sooners with a class that had a lower average star rating.

Also Michigan State’ class had a higher average star rating than did OU’s but the OU class was ranked higher because they had one more signee and a 5* signee. The average star ranking of the OU class ranked #17.

    • StL Sooner says:

Hard work beats talent (stars) when talent (stars) doesn’t work hard!
      Not sure of original source

      • BigJoeBrown says:

Yep, but what is really exciting is when you have talent that works hard. That is when programs really start to dominate.

      • SoonerSpock says:

Logic is the source. Likewise hard working talent (stars) beats similar hard work with less talent (stars). The problem with recruiting services is they do not have the staff or time to evaluate the character of 2,500 H.S. kids. while coaching staffs can evaluate the character of 50-125 kids they recruit. It is the character that is the delta.

Hence the star rating evaluates talent solely for the fan. Unfortunately it is the best system that we have.

    • PlayLikeaChampion says:

OU was fortunate to beat out a lot of SEC teams for Mykel Jones.

    • sooner8 says:

The kid has the right attitude & he is talented as well.Good luck Mykel Go Sooners!!

  • Jim Casy says:

Well, one thing that seems certain, is that we continue to sign intelligent and high quality young men.

  • David Morris says:

Interesting article about UCI refusing to release info on visiting the Big Twelve. I hope Boren does not compromise with just a conference expansion. We need everything he demanded, or we should walk.

    • SamSooner says:

      UCI?

    • Jim Casy says:

He has an agenda. He knows none of the suggestions he is making will turn out as acceptable. Phase I of us getting out.

      • David Morris says:

I think you are on to something there.

        • Jim Casy says:

He’s a great politician whether a guy likes his politics or not.

          • David Morris says:

He has been around a long time. Weather or not you agree with the man, you would have to say he gives his all to OU.

          • Jim Casy says:

We have a great setup right now with Boren, Joe and Bob, IMO. We take it for granted sometimes I think that guys can work together like that.

          • David Morris says:

Could not agree more. Change of that kind can normally have some growing pains. Hope they all stay a while longer.

          • Jim Casy says:

I wonder how much recruits really understand things like that. The stability, working relationships and all. I mean these kids going to UT, ATM, USC, LSU do they not get that their HC and probably most of their minions are hanging by threads?

      • Bob Edwards says:

I think there are two strategies on the table. The first is to give Texas a chance to help us fix the conference, if they do then we will stay if not then we start the process to leave hoping they will figure it out before we get to the end of the process. But I do think the final play is to leave and I am pretty sure that Texas arrogance will eventually force that ala Neb and TAMU.

Edit: I would also point out that right now it would be VERY expensive for us to leave because of the GOR. But every year we get closer to the end and every year that goes down since it’s lost revenue and not an exit fee.

        • Golfluvr13 says:

I agree with you Bob. I think that is exactly what Boren is doing.

        • Jim Casy says:

And Texas will be the bad guy while we are the ones that tried to help it work.

        • David Morris says:

I believe you are right. If and when we leave, the big 12 dies.

        • Birddawg says:

No way Texsa walks away from their espn deal and no way the other schools take a pay cut to save conference.
I’m not sure UC or any school would add enough to keep same pie spilt of 29mil a year.
          Its inevitable..

          • David Morris says:

It would be difficult. Possible but doubtful.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Well the other schools lose big time if OU leaves since the conference pretty much loses it’s P5 status. In the end they lose a lot more if we leave than they do if we add a couple more schools.

        • RocketCitySooner says:

Texas arrogance ruined the old SW conference.
Texas arrogance ruined the Big XII.

I’d just as soon leave them behind.

    • MoJoOkie says:

At the time, I thought Cincy and Louisville would have been good adds. Ship has sailed.

    • MoJoOkie says:

At the time, I thought Cincy and Louisville would have been good adds. Ship has sailed.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Good morning, glad Kelly picked the good guys. Keep building that D back up Cooks, Kish, Reynolds, and M. Stoops.

Bob talked about getting back to his roots at OU with the spread passing game, the D was what he won with back then and they appear to be focused on it.

    • Golfluvr13 says:

      Morning Dave!

    • MoJoOkie says:

      Morning dave.

    • David Morris says:

Our db’s are what need to be strong in this conference and we have addressed it. Our line will be great from the kids last year and we will replenish it next year.

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

They just need someone to step and take control of Sanchez’s old spot

        • Golfluvr13 says:

Dakota Austin played fairly well there last year.

          • David Morris says:

I agree da should be solid, maybe great.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Yes he did, I’m still hoping Mbanasor takes the job.

          • Jim Casy says:

Mike was asked why nobody knew about him and he commented that on some guys it is just hard to tell until they get on the field.

The only time I saw him really beat bad was against KU…but, think that had more to do with trying to preserve a shutout than actually getting beat. Kansas was on like the 20, all but guaranteed a FG and DJ jumped at a route for the pick and missed that is how they got their 7 points in that game.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I was at that KU game and Dakota was a half a step late or it would have been a pick-6. He was trying for the INT instead of just knocking the pass down. I think he did a good job other than that one play. People were commenting that he almost got burned against ISU, but he they were in zone and he was supposed to have a safety over the top helping, but the safety was out of position.

          • Jim Casy says:

it is really hard on the zone coverages to know for sure. wish it was easy to get access to “ALL-22” film like the NFL. We miss nearly half the field on the broadcast. Another reason why I love when I can make it to a game.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I know. I try to make at least one game a year and it so much better when I can see everything that is going on.

        • David Morris says:

You are right, we have the talent, just need them to step up.

  • DUNCANSOONER says:

What are the chances of Kelly starting against Houston?

    • MoJoOkie says:

He’d have to study up quick. There’s a lot of responsibilities a LB has to absorb. I guess he will have the summer with voluntary workouts, but that’s more strength and conditioning instead of scheme.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Obo, J. Evans, T. Evans, DeBerry

unless they go back to a 4 man front

    • Bob Edwards says:

LB can be a difficult place to play as a true freshman. Lot’s of reads that need to be made and those can be difficult to learn in a few weeks of fall camp. If he had early enrolled I would like his chances a lot better.

      • Sooner Scoop says:

Malik Jefferson. Need I say more.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

Texas didn’t have the bodies in front of him that the Sooners do.

That being said, he might blow everyone away and take the starting spot and never look back too.

        • Bob Edwards says:

Yeah, you pretty much do. First, I have no idea whether Malik Jefferson started the first game of the season or not. Second, a sample size of one is awful small to make a ‘chances’ argument on.

        • Jim Casy says:

Last years HS Butkus winner before Kelly.

        • sooner8 says:

True you are,he did pretty well this year for the shorthorns.

    • Birddawg says:

I’m not exactly all for a starting true freshmen linebacker starting unless he has skills in zone pass coverage. But Caleb Kelly graded out as one of or if not the best pass cover LBs in the country. I think they let him come in now to compete for a spot.
Right now, I have it like this.. but realllly early. Never know whats going to happen in next 6-7 months

    • cush creekmont says:

Play, maybe. Start very unlikely even as good as he appears.

    • Mr. Jones says:

I think I land where most others do on this; see him playing but not starting. May take a starting by before the year is up but seems unlikely he would take a starting role after a few weeks on campus.

  • Bob Edwards says:

Wow comparing JMT to Ikard and Darlington. That’s pretty high praise.

    • cush creekmont says:

Bob, did you see Kelly’s positive attitude about school and learning? I think he can be a thinking-man’s LB. Oh, and good morning!

      • Bob Edwards says:

Nah, haven’t caught on all the story lines from yesterday. Probably won’t but sounds like Kelly’s going to be a good kid. And good morning.

      • Jim Casy says:

We literally have a dozen kids like that this year. Smart, positive, humble, talented players.

  • Malicong says:

Anyone know what happened with the kids from Norman North? Tipsword and Hogan?

  • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Goooood Thursday morning fellow Brainiacs. “It is another fine day to be a SOONER”. Thanks to all the players that want to be SOONERS and to the ones that did not SEE YA!!!!!!

  • Mizuno44 says:

Well, the only thing better than February 3rd is February 4th, what a ride! Now, let’s pad up and get to work.

  • Dick Bump says:

So I guess mighty Maxs Tupai didn’t sign yet? Good player.

  • Greenlantern Otis says:

    how nd felt

    • MoJoOkie says:

The paper over here (Kentucky) said they (nd) didn’t lose any commits. I guess that’s technically correct.

  • jonnyBgood says:

Woke up with a big smile on my face! Partially because I love my family and job but also because the sun is shining and it’s a great day to be a SOONER! Watched the OU recruiting special and really like the class we have considering the limited amount of schollys available. Losing the DT’s stung a little but we loaded up on them the past few classes and I think we have quality guys to hold down the middle of the line.

Scrolling through the feed I see lots of familiar names and a noticeable but predictable absence of some “new faces”. This I like. Have a great day everyone and thanks for a great NSD! Boomer!

    • Golfluvr13 says:

      SOONER!

    • MoJoOkie says:

Not sure how many DTs we actually “missed” since there are no ships left to spend. I suppose we could have dropped one of the 3* guys, but in general I thought it was a pretty good haul. Time will tell.

      • jonnyBgood says:

Without question it was a good haul. I was speaking more to Daniels as he was a solid verbal at one point. Personally I feel we have plenty of beef up front to get the job done and then some.

      • RocketCitySooner says:

Been thinking the same thing. Since we pretty much filled all, except the one we’re holding for a LB, of our scholarships, I have to ask this question: which one of the guys we signed should we give up to get one of those we missed?

  • Maranatha846 says:

Where did all the posters from yesterday go? Just the regulars today. Yesterday was maddening. Think I’ll totally skip next year and hope someone post the results the next day.

  • Rick says:

I want to thank the TFB guys for another year. I enjoy the expertise and knowledge of the writers. I want to give Jordan a huge thank you! You have to put up with us nearly every day, thanks. I hope all of you can take a little break and catch your breath. We will continue to suppose, compose and expose. Thanks!

  • Mizuno44 says:

It’s really cool to hear our coaches talk about our “National Brand”, throw in the #OUDNA campaign, and it’s obvious there’s a concerted effort to push that very message. Yes, we’re missing some Texas kids these days, but in the grand scheme of things, there’s a lot of competition for kids down there. I don’t believe I’ve ever witnessed this aggressive brand push in the past, and I also think it will put us back into top ten recruiting classes sooner than later. (stepping off of soapbox, hold the applause).

  • KatyOUdad says:

Yesterday was a crazy day with emotions running the gamut. Now on to the 2017 class. I can easily find the current five commits on the recruiting sites, but does anyone have a list of our offer list or top targets for 2017?

  • Wilson says:

Thought I would peek in and see if the bloodletting had subsided. Couldn’t stay away…lol Interesting class though. Researching each of the kids, it appears on the surface that OU did a good job of getting their “type” of student-athlete. Too bad about Hearne. Hope the young man pulls it together. But Stoops did say he was ineligible “this semester” and not completely removed from the team or school.

    • Dick Bump says:

I read somewhere that it’s academics. It happens.

      • Wilson says:

Yes. its academics. Yep even the best of us had to deal with academic issues at one time or another. They can be overcome depending on the level of desire and effort.

    • Mizuno44 says:

Good point. Can’t wait to see what Orso can do on the OL, seems like the guy keeps growing.

      • Wilson says:

I know right! He keeps this up and he will grow into an NBA center…lol. Shaq in training…

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

Jamaal Brown from DL to Pro Bowl OT

      • Wilson says:

I forget sometimes that no matter how big and athletic these guys are. They are still just kids and most have not matured physically.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

And that is the reason a lot of guys go unnoticed by coaches then show up in JUCOs or smaller schools and go to the NFL.

          • Wilson says:

Exactly… we like to call them “late bloomers”. I’v seen kids grow 6 inches from their freshman to senior years in high school. I coached football for a while (still do on a volunteer basis) and the phrase ‘hasn’t grown into his feet yet.’ is oft used…lol

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Yep, unfortunately for me I began growing east and west after HS.

          • Wilson says:

Me too…but it was ‘good weight’ lol… went from 155 as a senior in HS to 215…then to 230…sure help as a linebacker..lol…no steroids..just good genes i suppose…lol

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Very nice, I can hold good weight up to about 185

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

I am one of those that only learned lessons like that the hard way, hopefully he will too.

  • OUn8v says:

I read somewhere that Kelly was the only 5-star signed in the Big 12 yesterday. Is that correct?

  • Maverick says:

Consider this my formal apology to the board for participating in the back and forth with some of the trolls yesterday. I was trying to get them banned, but that wasnt the best strategy in hindsight.

I enjoy all the regulars here and I appreciate the community. Cheers.

  • Collin says:

Morning everyone! Happy signing day hangover! I was greeted with a desk full of papers this morning so I’m checking the site later than usual haha.

  • RocketCitySooner says:

I have a few questions about the mechanics of signing day. I know we give recruits a verbal offer and the recruits may give public verbal commitments. Nothing is final until the sign the LOI. Do we only send LOI to those who tell us they are going to sign with us? Do we send LOI to all those we have given verbal offers too?

I’m curious for this reason. Suppose we want to allocate our scholarships across offense/defense and by positions. Suppose we want two DE and two LB. We verbally offer four DE and four LB. How do we make sure that only two DE and two LB accept?

    • BoomerDave says:

Actually, we don’t give verbal offers, we give written offers outlining the full extent of their scholarship. On signing day, we send LOI’s to those who have previously accepted our scholarship, i.e. committed to us, and others that we specifically want to sign with us. We do not send LOI’s to all 150+ kids we made offers to for the very reason you cited.

      • RocketCitySooner says:

About what I figured. Suspect there must be a lot going on in the background to ensure we get the right balance of specific positions. I suspect the OU coaches pretty much knew who they were getting several days ago.

  • soonerjunky says:

    My 2017 Wish List

QB: Hunter Johnson (In) 5* or Chris Robinson (Tx)4*

    RB: JK Dobbins

    WR: CeeDee Lamb 3*
(Tx), Charleston Rambo (Tx) 4*, Tyjon Lindsey (Nv) 5*

OL: Austin Deculus (Tx) 4*, Walker Little(Tx) 4*, Jack
    Anderson(Tx) 5*, Tyrese Robinson
    (Tx) 4*

DL: Chase young (MD) 4*, Marvin Wilson (Tx) 5*, Haskell
    Garrett (Nv) 4*

    LB: Levi Draper (OK)
4*, Anthony Hines (Tx) 4*, Baron Browning Tx) 5*

CB: Tre Brown (OK) 4*, Justin Broiles (OK) 3*, Darnay Holmes
    (CA) 5*

S: Quindon Lewis (OK) 4*, Robert Barnes (TX) 4*, Jeffrey Okudah (Tx)5*

Most of these kids are not in the “SEC Zone”, also this is
not everyone they should sign, but just my wish list. TE/FB should also be signed and probably
another RB. For now this is what I have
    on my February Christmas list.

  • Jim Casy says:

Question: is it required of kids that schools offer to get a physical examination before NSD?

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

In OK I think it’s required to play HS football, so I’m sure they can get a hold of a recent physical if they need to.

  • BoomCity89 says:

Kelly, Jackson, DeBerry, Mcginnis, Bolton, Evans, Doucet, Beal….. that’s a damn good group of young guys at the LB position

  • jaobryan1 says:

Does Jared Mayden really think he’s going to play at Bama when they had true freshmen at corner this year AND signed two corners ranked much higher than him this year? I anticipate him transferring somewhere and sitting out a year

    • Wilson says:

You never know…but at least he wasn’t afraid to try.

    • rainydaze114 says:

I don’t know why people are still talking about this guy.

    • Jim Casy says:

That’s the kid that played us, right? His name is starting to slip from my memory.

    • SamSooner says:

I’m not going to complain about the kid going to Bama. My only issue is how he handled it. Teasing OU fans with his Dad’s jersey. C’mon.

Now, haven said that, I wish him well, happiness, health and wealth.

      • Jim Casy says:

The jersey was taking it too far if you don’t mean it. I hope his dad took that damn thing away from him and put it some place safe.

      • Mr. Jones says:

Exactly how I feel. I’ll never be upset at a kid for choosing where he thinks is best for him. But don’t troll your parent’s alma mater just for fun. That said, I hope he has a long successful career with zero national championships.

      • Gary Robbins says:

Yeah I wonder how his parents felt about that also. Got to remember that saying health, wealth and happiness.

      • Gary Robbins says:

Yeah I wonder how his parents felt about that also. Got to remember that saying health, wealth and happiness.

      • soonerthunder says:

I’m with you on the immaturity he showed. However, I’m not with you on how he does–I simply don’t care one way or the other. I don’t wish him ill-will, I just don’t care what he does

      • DrewChubbs says:

Personally, I hope he does really well at Bama. Maybe even gets a national spotlight on him, as Bama players tend to have happen. Then, we get paired against them in, oh say a Sugar Bowl as a playoff birth. And at the end of that day, I hope he has the same confused and frustrated look on his face that the bama secondary had last time we played ’em.

    • Jim Casy says:

Sounds similar situation to Velus and USC. SMH.

    • Greenlantern Otis says:

      whos jared mayden?

    • Stephen Woods says:

I have this gut feeling that he transfers to OU within a year or two.

    • soonerthunder says:

Well, bama/OU/anyone doesn’t play someone/start someone b/c they had more stars, so, yes, he thinks he’s going to play. If football was just start the guys who are rated the highest, it would be a much different game than it is. Fans don’t seem to understand this. BTW, in the last 7 yrs not one #1 recruit in America has been drafted in the 1st round. You would think recruiting rankings could at least get the sure-thing recruit evaluated correctly. They can’t and the don’t.

      • Jim Casy says:

Might start playing when he is a junior. That’s how Saban roles unless it is a supreme talent.

        • soonerthunder says:

yes, and mayden is as good and probably better than any 5 star guy saban has, i don’t care what the recruiting services rankings say. He’s good and I was wanting him when he was committed to Oregon.

  • SamSooner says:

I want to see that Miles Davis movie. Don Cheadle is a great choice. That man, Miles, revolutionized jazz. And if you can’t tell it, I’m passionate about jazz.

    • OceanDescender says:

      I love Don Cheadle’s acting!

      • SamSooner says:

He’s great. Funny and there isn’t any role too big for him.
If you plan to see the movie, do yourself a favor, listen to the man’s music. You are sure to be pulled in emotionally when you here it. Man, that sound his horn makes is amazing. I had the pleasure of hearing him play at Chastain Park, in Atlanta.

    • Maverick says:

If you think peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis. (Billy Madison)

    • Clay Davis says:

He did indeed. He definitely wasn’t afraid to do something different, more to his own strengths, than what was considered great jazz at the time.

      • SamSooner says:

Check out Clifton Brown. He’s another unknown trumpeter, who sadly, had his life end before he reached his full potential.

        • Clay Davis says:

          Clifford Brown?

          • SamSooner says:

            Yes. sorry about that.

          • Clay Davis says:

No worries. From what I’ve gathered here and there in comments, you’re more of a jazz afficionado than me.

But I do love me some jazz. I first really got into it taking a History of Jazz class to fulfill a fine arts requirement at OU – before that it was a bit daunting and I thought I needed to know a lot more about music and theory to appreciate it. The class basically consisted of listening to jazz for hours a day (it was an intersession class) and a few minutes of talking about noteworthy things to listen for.

          • SamSooner says:

I love it. It’s relaxing and complicated at the same time.

Thelonious Monk is another interesting dude. I didn’t like it at first because some of his music was too abstract. One day I got him. I’ve digging him since.

  • OceanDescender says:

Really glad JMT stayed true for all that time and signed with the good guys. I’ve got a great feeling that he’s gonna show out at OU!

  • Gary Robbins says:

Yesterday was an prime example of the Good, Bad, and the Ugly.
    Some Pros and Cons.
    Pro’s
    1. Mykel Jones
    2. Zach Farrar
    3. Erik Swenson
    4. All of the student athletes that signed. Going to be some real surprises and future All-Americans.
    5.Plus: 5*Kyler Murray, 4*Geno Lewis, 4*Dalton Woods (walk-on), 3*Braxton Pickard (walk-on).
    6. Also: Not yet but eventually 4*Bryce Youngquist.
    Con’s
    1. Daniels/Southall – what were they thinking.
    2. Mayden – no legacy for him, depth chart burial.
    3. Cobb- head scratcher at last minute.
    4. R. Parker – grades, but TCU anyway.
    5. T. Moore – grades, OSU anyway, high school coaches in his ear.
    6. Jacobs – trendy Bama, depth chart burial.

    • Jim Casy says:

Jacobs definitely should have went Mizzou. Look at that kid from Lawton at Iowa State.

      • Bob Edwards says:

The B12 is where you want to be as a running back. You get to play KU every year. Heck, you might get to a 1000 in that game alone.

        • rainydaze114 says:

          At least 400…

        • soonerthunder says:

I wouldn’t play down perine’s accomplishments. Every great RB in the history of football has played several bad teams and never done what he’s done. The SEC has their KUs, but just a lot more of them than the B12 does. Mid-majors annually beat Kentucky, Vandy, Usc, etc. Those schools beat D2 schools many yrs, or no one or each other.

    • jonnyBgood says:

I agree with you on Jacobs. Feels to me like a waste of talent but hopefully the kid gets some run.

A kid we got I am high on is Hardy. Kid can do just about everything and may end up being a hidden gem for this class. Excited to see him on the field!

      • Collin says:

        Boykin/Braxton?? One could hope.

      • Pat3332 says:

Yes, I thought the same thing when I looked at his film and was wondering why I had heard almost nothing about him. I also could find almost no film with him as a receiver, just as a quarterback and he looked pretty good in those.

    • soonerthunder says:

Good, Gary. Plus, we needed a lot of OLmen and got them. We needed WRs and got 4 good looking ones. We needed lots of LBs and got a bevy of good looking ones. We needed a good looking QB, and got one. We needed one RB and got a good looking one. We didn’t need DLmen and if we’d have signed one we wouldn’t have gotten jones or jackson or farrar, so I’m glad that worked out like it did. It should make recruiting DLmen next yr easier telling them that we didn’t take one the yr before. We had one DB spot open and got 3 good looking DBs. Recruiting rankings have a lot of issues, but one thing they don’t address is need, and it looks to me like we addressed needs well.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

I’m not as high on Farrar as some others are. Mayden AND Cobb hurt. Moore wasn’t going to be eligible next year so the tradeoff of him for Swenson is a major win. Don’t think we needed Jacobs, especially since we grabbed Jones. I think Jackson was a nice grab late, and obviously getting Kelly was important. I’d have been ecstatic with just one of the CB’s and one other player we were after. To me, that would have been nearly best case scenario.

  • Exiled In Ohio says:

Jordan, thanks again for the superb job you did bringing us all the agony and the ecstasy yesterday! We really appreciate all the time you put in.

    Now on to 2017 ….

  • j l says:

Did you guys see the tweet where kelly explained why he came to OU? He basically said he wanted to come here to be a leader, a place where he felt he could make a larger impact on OTHER kids lives, on and off the field.

And then watch all the ND fans call him scared, and a coward because of that?

What a bunch of pompous, self-aggrandizing, petty sh*tbags.

Ive literally never wanted to see a team fail so hard in my life now, going 0-12 wouldnt be bad enough, i hope they lose every game by 100.

Ill never watch another ND game in my life, unless we play them in the playoffs, and i pray to the football gods kelly has 40 sacks, then gives them a big smile and offers to help each kid he hits up, just to show them what a REAL man of character is.

Been a long time since something pissed me off like that.

Taco Bell 12 pack challenge?? C’mon there are thousands of drunk college kids who do that every weekend.

    • Golfluvr13 says:

Yep, I tried it in college, after drinking way too much Jack Daniels. That is why I haven’t had Jack Daniels since college. LOL

    • Jim Casy says:

12 pack o crunchy tacos, verde sauce and a large Diet Dr. Pepper.
The Diet Dr. Pepper part gets them every time.

    • RocketCitySooner says:

Whimps! I remember the Dinco Challenge. Two enchi’s, taco, rice and beans. Two eggs sunny side up on top. Whole bottle of their verde sauce right in the middle. Plus a bowl of their peppers. One of their 24 oz ice teas. The Dinco Darlin was for whimps too.

Now that’s a challenge. I know I dont know why this guy did this challenge, maybe a request. His other ones were more impressive.

  • Nate Broadus says:

Was Zoolander 2 necessary? Did we learn nothing from Anchorman 2?

  • KJ1123 says:

    Haha Jordan…with the Thiessen post.
    Damn shes 42 now?!?!

  • SoonerLove says:

I’m still thinking a good recruiting class, just not great. Chris Daniels will be all over the field sacking our QB’s the next 4 years in the Cotton Bowl and Parish Cobb will be picking off passes left and right from us the next 4 years. If we sign those two and get 1 more higher rated receiver, we possibly win a National Title with that class.

    • Kelly Gurbcock says:

YES! YES! There he is!!! YES!

    • TJ Garrett says:

      love the confidence there hahahahaha

      • BoomerDave says:

        SoonerLove is Jordan’s pseudonym.

      • SoonerLove says:

After going 15 years of falling short of the ultimate goal and seeing the decrease in talent over the last 6-7 years, it’s hard to have a lot of confidence and faith. If I saw guys like Dusty Dvocek, Dan Cody, Brandon Everage, Derrick Strait, Tommy Harris, Antonio Perkins, Brodney Pool, Calvin Thibidoex, Torrence Marshall, JT Thatcher, and many other greats we’ve had coming on the field….I might have more confidence. No one except Charles Walker and Steven Parker could be considered in that caliber.

        • SamSooner says:

SoonerLove, wake up you’re dreaming, again.

OU has won 15 conference championships and 6 National Championships. You missed it. But it’s all good.

Give it a rest and go back to sleep. It’s all good.

          • SoonerLove says:

HOW MANY NATIONAL TITLES HAS OU WON IN 15 YEARS? HOW MANY IN 30 YEARS? HOW MANY HAS LSU, FLORIDA, FLORIDA ST., ALABAMA, AND OHIO ST. WON IN THE LAST 30 YEARS?

          • SamSooner says:

Why are you screaming? Are you mad at me?

          • SoonerLove says:

No not screaming at you. I’m not mad. I just do all caps when I’m over emphasizing something.

          • SamSooner says:

Look man, I’m just poking you. I don’t care what you do.

However, you need to wise up to the fact that everyone doesn’t feel the way you do, especially the sunshine pumpers. If you’re here to recruit, no one here is going to take up arms with boggarts. Go to a place “where everybody knows your name.” That’s the only place you will find someone who knows the national anthem to pity-poor-me.

            Peace out.

          • SoonerLove says:

I’m not here to recruit. I’m here to talk football. I realize there’s a ton of sunshine pumpers on here and that’s fine. I just have fun making my points and hearing theirs and arguing some in between. I am a frustrated fan obviously, because I have higher expectations for the program than some. I expect a National Title and in all honesty it’s just more fun to watch MEAN and more PHYSICAL athletes, especially defensively than the ones we currently have. That’s why I’m here. In hopes that Sooner Nation will not BURY and HIDE the problems and will eventually get back to DOMINANCE and PRESTIGE in the college football world like we had from 2000-2004.

          • AgedBill says:

You “expect” a national championship? It would be a lot more realistic to”hope”for a national championship. We all want that! It would be interesting to hear why you in particular have an entitlement or owed a championship.

          • SoonerLove says:

Hope is what you do if you’re an OSU cowboy and has never won one or tasted one. Expect is what you do if you are a Sooner and have seen 7 of them and seen the glory days of Bud and Barry and early Bob.

          • AgedBill says:

It is very likely that I go back a bit farther than you do, so I am not too lmpressed because you are willing to throw out the names of famous OU coaches you have heard. Again you sound like you are entitled to a championship and no one is. They are earned and they are very difficult to obtain.

          • SoonerLove says:

Agree they are earned and difficult to obtain, but why do some coaches make more than others? Why is Bob being paid more than say Iowa St.’s coach. I don’t even know his name, but my point is certain programs put more money and have higher “expectations” than others. Why has Akron never won a championship, but OU has 7? Why does Utah not have any? If your argument is that we shouldn’t have expectations, that’s weak.

          • AgedBill says:

We have the expectations that the team and coaches will perform to the best of their abilities, or certainly near their best. The team and coaches set goals for themselves and those goals for OU teams always include a national championship. We the fans hope they reach those goals and we are often disappointed when they don’t. My point is that to say we “expect” a championship is to say we are deserving and are owed one. We aren’t owed anything.

          • SoonerLove says:

I think you are missing the point. Every college football team sets the same goal from the first day of spring camp to win a National Title. All 119 teams want to win their conference, make the 4 team playoff, and win a National Championship. Some get close, some fall way short from week 1. The difference is OU, Michigan, Texas, Florida, Ohio St., and Alabama get more funds, pay their coaches higher salaries, have larger stadiums and fan bases, and put a lot more money into their football programs to put their team in POSITION to win a National Title. When a team of that caliber is going year after year without getting in position or having significant drop-offs in talent from those ELITE programs that I mentioned above, there’s a problem. As fans, we should have higher expectations if we are one of those schools above than say Utah, Arizona, Wisconsin, North Carolina. It’s like basketball, Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Kansas are the elites. Their fans, presidents, and athletic directors have higher expectations than say OU fans, because they are considered to invest more money, time, and have more prestige and tradition than teams like OU and Iowa St. Are you getting my point?

          • AgedBill says:

I get your point and it is a fair one. It is much more clear than the original one, at least in my mind. You came off to me as some sort of spoiled and non-thinking person, when, in fact, your last response was quite the opposite. I am sorry to have jumped to conclusions.

          • SoonerLove says:

Hey no worries man. I respect everything you were saying too. I’m not the kind of fan that is spoiled or expects it every year. Like I said, I just have the expectations to be in the Elite category as a football program and win a National Championship least every 10-15 years. Thanks for the good, clean debate and understanding where I was coming from.

          • AgedBill says:

Good shot! I have to get some more work done, so I am out.

          • SoonerLove says:

Me too. Have a good one.

          • Malicong says:

            Last 30 years:
            tOSU – 3 NC’s
            Alabama – 5
            FSU – 3
USC – 2 (one vacated so really 1)
            LSU – 2
            Florida – 3
            Auburn – 1
            Michigan – 1 in the last 65
            Oklahoma – 2

            Since 2000:

            tOSU – 2
            Florida – 2
            LSU – 2
            FSU – 1
            USC – 2 (one vacated)
            Auburn – 1
            Alabama – 4
            OU – 1

Not nearly as much of a difference as you would think. Really, it’s Alabama and everyone else.

          • SoonerLove says:

I realize that, but you add 1 more national title to OU’s resume in the last 15 years and I’m talking a different story. Having 2 or 3 or 5 (in Alabama’s case) is a huge difference vs having 1. Plus ours was 15 years ago and LSU, Florida and USC and Auburns were within the last 10 years. That’s a huge difference too. Basically what I’m saying, is the more years you go without winning one, the less national respect and prestige you lose. That also has an effect on recruiting. Players want to see what have you done for me lately.

          • Malicong says:

USC was actually 11 years ago but I get your point. But in all fairness, the Alabama phenomenon has really affected all the blue bloods, not just OU.

          • SoonerLove says:

I see what you’re saying too, but my thoughts are that the only way Alabama and better yet the SEC is going away is one of three ways. You out hustle them in recruiting somehow. If our coaches land some of those prospects like Mayden that went to Alabama and/or some of those guys like Chris Daniels that went to Texas, we are more equipped to beat Alabama if or when the opportunity arises. We have to also win the big games to earn respect from guys like Mayden and Daniels. Can’t lose those games in poor fashion. If you lose, lose with respect and make it a closer score. It’s like Clemson, although they lost to Alabama, they gained a lot of respect by keeping the game tight and close till the end. We lost respect by letting the game get away from us. In a nut shell, I’m just not sure what we need to do to get there, but we are not there or that game against Clemson would have been closer. I’m just really unsure if Bob is the guy anymore to get us competitive against the Alabamas and Clemsons of the world.

          • Jim Casy says:

Florida is the one I’d like to do over.

          • SoonerLove says:

I agree! I think if we win that Florida game, we are on a totally different level today.

          • OohRah Mama says:

            Stop yelling. It’s childish.

          • SoonerLove says:

I wasn’t yelling, so you’re the childish individual for assuming that. Instead, to not make a total ass of yourself, you could see where I explained that I was emphasizing (not yelling) when I use CAPS.

          • OohRah Mama says:

Good Gawd man, even young children know internet etiquette describes all posts in all caps as screaming and ill-mannered. An adult like yourself can form a written thought that gets across an emotional or even *emphasized* tone without unintentionally falling into internet posting faux pas. Example: I said your yelling was childish (i.e., an action or behavior a child would demonstrate, not an adult). I got across my point and did not call you a name. Example of what not to do: calling another poster a childish individual and an ass.

Sugar, if you like this place it will like you back if your posts aren’t examples of how not to behave in a friendly, awesome group. I’m sure your Mama would expect no less.

          • SoonerLove says:

            http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ALL+CAPS

Boom! Notice the number 1 reason people use ALL CAPS. Emphasizing. And so what if I did shout (which I didn’t and friendly explained to the commentor before you jumped in). If you would have taken the time to read ALL posts in the thread like you should have, you would have seen that explanation. That’s what’s wrong with today’s world. People like yourself are too lazy to read everything and take things out of context. Do yourself a favor and before you get on here calling me and anyone else “childish”, put some reading glasses on and take a little extra effort to read all the threads between two users (if you’re going to jump in) and understand the intentions behind a conversation before you jump in and JUMP to conclusions and name call. In my opinion, name calling and being too lazy to read or too ignorant to read the entire threads is not only childish, but a complete lack of ability to communicate. If that’s the case, which it looks like, than please do yourself a favor and go seek professional coaching and help. Have a good day and good luck.

        • BoomerDave says:

Most of those guys you just listed were 2-3* recruits. Let’s wait and see how this class develops.

          • TJ Garrett says:

We have lost more titles in the last 15 years then most teams play for sir….so just be grateful of what we have accomplished.

          • SoonerLove says:

BoomerDave, I realize that, however I’m referring to what I’ve seen on the field the past 6-7 seasons. We’ve had some nice players don’t get me wrong. However, most of those seasons, it’s been 4-5 really good players and 6 average players on defense. Like this year for example, Striker, Walker, Alexander, Parker, Thomas, and Tapper were capable of bringing us a championship home, but the other positions were good, (but not GREAT). My point is, I’m ready to see us on that level at every spot on the field and have depth. Based upon the last 6 seasons and the caliber of recruiting we’ve brought in, I’m not optimistic it is going to change. Hopeful yes, but leaning more towards seeing the same thing we’ve seen for the last 6-7 seasons. Good, but not Great. 8-4 to 10-2 caliber seasons. Not on the level of Bama and Clemson. That’s what we’ve been.

          • AgedBill says:

Didn’t W Va kill Clemson in the Orange Bowl a couple of years ago? They have only been playing at the current high level for the last two years, nothing like Alabama and OU.

          • SoonerLove says:

I didn’t say Clemson was a long time power house did I? No, all I said about them was that they gained respect by keeping the game against Alabama close. Don’t put words in my mouth.

          • AgedBill says:

Well, you were talking about the past 6-7 seasons and I merely pointed out that Clemson hasn’t been all that good for very long. That isn’t putting words in your mouth.

    • RocketCitySooner says:

If Daniels is sacking our QB and Cobb is picking off our passes, then our OL and our QB are at fault.

      • SoonerLove says:

Do you ever just think someone is that good that they can get through even some of the best offensive linemen and/or read some of the best QB’s?

  • Maranatha846 says:

What do we talk about from now to August? The Men’s round ball team is really good, the women’s is not. Time for a coaching change there?

    • Kelly Gurbcock says:

      sadly yes.

      • SCKSChief says:

Man…I don’t know. She just can’t seem to get them over that “middle of the pack” hump, can she?

      • Maranatha846 says:

I hate it because she’s a hometown girl made good, but seems it’s time.

        • AgedBill says:

Don’t forget, she saved the program. There was talk of dropping women’s b-ball when she was hired. She has built the program up from the deep pit it had become. My guess is that she stays until she is ready to hang it up.

          • Maranatha846 says:

I agree she saved the program, but she has been well compensated for that. The product she is now putting on the court is not good.

          • Nate Broadus says:

Sherri Coale will leave after her retirement party. That’s my guess. She has taken OU women’s basketball from nearly dead to a shot at a championship in her career. Unless her teams absolutely bottom out, she’s pretty well tenured at OU.

Since women’s bball isn’t a “money” sport, I don’t sweat them having down years every now and again. Now that she has a talented post girl on the way, I’m anxious to see if she will experience another resurgence. Her best teams always featured talent in the paint.

          • AgedBill says:

I think you are right on it, Nate.

    • Stephen Woods says:

I think so, she does have some good recruits coming in though.

      • Nate Broadus says:

That new big post player could change things on a dime. Sherri’s best teams were always centered around the center, no pun intended — or at least a formidable presence in the paint. When she has that difference maker in the paint, her teams go from good to great.

For some reason, she just doesn’t always have luck landing that player.

        • Stephen Woods says:

I agree, hearing that she is pretty raw. Hopefully Sherri and turn her into a less manly Britney GrIner

    • Kelly Gurbcock says:

      SoonerLove will keep us entertained.

    • Nate Broadus says:

I’m waiting to see how the new players affect things. She can still put a good team out there — she just has to hit on that right combo of players, similar to Patti Gasso. How many people were calling for her head before she landed Keilani Ricketts and the ’13 OU women blasted the record books all to hell?

      • sooner8 says:

Coach Gasso is one of the all time great coaches at OU who consistently wins!!I don’t recall any ever asking for her head???Check your facts!!

        • Nate Broadus says:

It was during the stretch where OU didn’t even make it back to the WCWS.

Every coach in creation has had to live with calls for their head — no matter how much they’ve won. Don’t let recent history give you a case of history revision. Even Barry “The King” Switzer had to copyright “Bury Barry” so that no a-hole, short-sighted fans would capitalize on it.

      • Maranatha846 says:

Maybe she needs another set of Paris twins to bail her out.

        • Nate Broadus says:

She got to the Final Four with Abi Olajuwon, as well. Same with Caton Hill.

Look back over women’s bball history — her teams are capable of being elite with a formidable post presence. She is great at assembling guards; for some reason, she isn’t always great at pairing them with great post scorers/defenders.

    • cush creekmont says:

They need some shooting lessons from Buddy!

    • j l says:

Spring game is only 2 months away. Maybe we could get a list of who is going, maybe meet up at the game?

    • Bob Edwards says:

I think she is where Bob was a couple of years ago. He had to reinvent himself, required getting rid of some people, making other changes like getting involved in social media, etc. Not sure what those are in her case, but Joe C needs to have ‘the talk’ and tell her it’s time to change the direction of things. If she’s not willing, probably time to ‘promote’ her to an AD position.

      • sooner8 says:

Sad but true ,Sherri is a great person & still a good coach, but something has just been missing the last 4-5 years.I think she is way to loyal to her best friends, who she has hired as coaches.(most of the time that does’nt work out)Go Sooners!!

    • SoonerinLondon says:

I think you all know my thoughts on this.

By choice, the coach has had too many off-the-court distractions the last few years. These are not things that I will specifically discuss in public, but (sadly) IMHO it has been time for a change for a few years.

      • Maranatha846 says:

I agree it’s time for a change. I don’t really know what the off court distractions are, but know the product on the court is not good.

        • Dick Bump says:

They don’t look all that good, consistently. I’m not into character assassination by innuendo.

          • Maranatha846 says:

Me neither. Like I say, I know nothing about Sherri other than the product on the court isn’t good.

  • Indy_sooner says:

I think lot’s of folks looking at Texas’ haul and comparing it to ours forget that UT had 0 DTs the last 2 years or so… it makes sense that guys want to go there for the immediate playing time.
After a deep dive, I think we’ve signed a really good class. Volume-wise, it doesn’t seem that way but we filled the needs nicely and got some really solid contributors FYE 2017. That said, we will need to grab additional HS LBs DTs and DEs next year for sure. The graduation and attrition will open up a need for this

    • SoCalSooner says:

Next year DT will be a priority position for recruiting like LB was for this signing period.

      • MoJoOkie says:

And WR. Not as much as LB, but we needed to get some. DB, DB you always gotta get some quality if available. If Walker wasn’t coming back, I might have panicked a little bit. But we’ve got some good young ones coming up and there will be some depth for this year.

Same thing I said yesterday. I agree with you and we will probably need a RB or 2 next year.
