Good morning Sooners!! Lattin was on fire last night with the blocks! Buddy scores 30 while taking only 12 shots. OU looks very good right now.

  • Sooner Scoop says:

    What’s up Sooner Nation?

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Is Buddy having the best or second best season ever for an OU bball player? I wasn’t around when Tisdale was playing, but it seems like only his seasons could really compare to what Buddy is doing. I think Buddy is definitely having a more impressive season than Blake did. Can’t think of any other comparisons, which is saying something, b/c OU has had some great players come through Norman.

    • Golfluvr13 says:

Blake did not have much of a supporting cast to help him. Tisdale is still my all time favorite Sooner. He had the biggest smile and the softest hands. Buddy is quickly jumping into my top 3!

    • JrsySooner says:

I would have to go with Buddy…he’s double digits every game but boy Wayman was electric I miss him his smile love for Jazz but Buddy is off the charts…

    • OUhound says:

I too was fortunate enough to see Tisdale play, as I was attending OU during his career. The guy was beyond words good. All of these players were good in different ways and played different positions. Stacey King was also dynamite as well as Mookie Blaylock.

      • Golfluvr13 says:

Mookie Blaylock was one of the best thieves I have ever seen play. Guy could steal the ball while never taking his eyes off of the opponents eyes.

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

We got a new puppy and named it Mookie back then. He was one heckuva guard and his steals were amazing.

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

Tisdale could play inside and outside. He was amazing. I’d put Wayman above Hield. But that does not imply Buddy is not great.

    • Dick Bump says:

Buddy is great! Waymon Tisdale’s smile and attitude infected the whole team. You could tell he was really enjoying himself! He was a fantastic player, entirely different game than Buddy. Blake’s team didn’t play as well as a team. He is an amazing player. Alvin Adams was really big-time in his day.

    • Brent says:

      Stacey King says hello.

  • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Morning all. “It is another great day to be a SOONER”, Now get out there and get some “BOOMS”

  • JrsySooner says:

Now for me it’s Buddy followed by Tisdale Blaylock then my high school bro Stacey King

  • Sooner Scoop says:

If OU still had TaShawn Thomas they would not only be undefeated, but would be unstoppable. I really hope Lon can get some top notch players to sign with OU with all this momentum.

  • TSFFKAG says:

Does anyone know if Ohio State has any weaknesses/vulnerabilities/mismatch opportunities at all (way too early analyses)? Or will it be much like playing Clemson or Alabama?

    • Zack says:

Nope they will be ready. Mike stoops needs to find his balls again and not let Ohio state dictate how our defense should play. Our style of play should not change just because the other team has a mobile qb.

    • Sooner Scoop says:

Ohio State will be inexperienced on both sides of the ball, lots of new starters. Solid at QB though.

    • SamSooner says:

Don’t worry about any weaknesses. It won’t matter. We are going to face a very good Ohio State team They use their TEs more than any team in the country. Defensively, they’ll be ready. Offensively, they will try to slow it down but go uptempo and take shots if its available. They are going to try to run it right at you and using misdirection.

      • metzker says:

Morning Sam,yeah ohilo state will be good for sure.

        • SamSooner says:

          Morning, Metzker.

Do let that B1G moniker fool you: they have speed and they’re physical.

      • Golfluvr13 says:

Morning Sam! I agree with your thoughts. That is exactly what Urban will try and do.

        • SamSooner says:

          Morning, Golf.

How was time with the family?

I’ve watched a lot of tOSU football over the past 25 years. I think I know them as well as I know OU.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Time with the family was good, time with my granddaughter was awesome. Nothing like a 2 year old giving you a bear hug around the neck to restore order to the world.

Urban sticks with his game plan and will run the same misdirection stuff over and over. Eventually someone will be out of position and it turns out to be a big play. Have to stay gap sound against his teams.

    • SoonerMagic76 says:

They lost a lot of playmakers, especially on offense

  • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

Buddy is the best collegiate shooter I’ve seen since Kevin Durant, when he is making 30ft 3’s he is pretty much unguardable!

  • JrsySooner says:

What really makes me mad is the fact that we can only get eight thousand people To a basketball game
We are number one in the country with one of the most explosive players I’ve seen in years and a supporting cast that could take this team to the Final Four….wtf… I would give my right testicle to see this team in action (it got crushed in desert storm ) I know to much information

    • TSFFKAG says:

If it got crushed, then you wouldn’t be giving up too much. That isn’t good logic. But I think I understand what you really mean. …I never understood the game. I just like watching people making outlandish shots.

    • SoonerMagic76 says:

A very interesting comment to read while eating my morning fruit.

However, thank you for your service to this country!

    • Kelly Gurbcock says:

the early games on a weekday screw the fans though. No way I could’ve made it by tip.

  • Golfluvr13 says:

I keep reading that Striker is undersized and that could hurt him the draft, but he continues to get around NFL ready tackles. You can’t measure the size of the desire and heart!

      Speed kills.

    • Soonerfan24 says:

You accidentally had the wrong link. I think you meant to put this one:

      http://oklahoma.247sports.com/Bolt/Striker-putting-on-a-show-at-Senior-Bowl-43173477

      • Golfluvr13 says:

LOL! Wonder how that happened, I had not even opened that one yet to read it. Thanks!

      • Jordan Esco says:

I can’t help but laugh at this attempt at an article. They’ve taken a single tweet and manipulated that into the headline of ‘putting on a show.’ Never ceases to amaze the lengths some will go to just to get clicks.

        • Dick Bump says:

Not a lot of information. Just opinion.

        • Golfluvr13 says:

I generally loath clicking on a 247 link, the article I originally was reading was off of CBS Sportsline. Not sure how they got that link there.

          • Jordan Esco says:

            They’re partnered w/ 247

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Gotcha! I will be more careful in the future. Didn’t they just buy them out or something? I was actually reading an article about the PEDs and the NFL on there and that was on the side. I read Striker and decided to click.

          • Jordan Esco says:

Oh, you’re totally fine. So long as no one is taking $ info from other boards and posting it here, I’m not going to begrudge anyone from linking to stuff. Sure, I have my preferences on what I personally will and won’t click on. But I’m 1000% an advocate for everyone getting as much OU info from wherever they want to get it from 🙂

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Oh heck no. I don’t pay for any of the sites I read and I sure would not post anything here for money. I just try to get every bit of info I can on my Sooners! And that is why I spend so much time here! I LOVE this site!!!

          • Jordan Esco says:

            nice

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

Yeah, and some of us suckers pay for that kind of (lack of) info. Sigh….

    • SamSooner says:

It’s not the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog.

  • Mr. Jones says:

I can’t wait for the BIG12/SEC showdown Saturday. Glad we get a shot to go against a star like Simmons and not just some bottom-feeder SEC team. Should be fun. Boomer!

  • Birddawg says:

A week or two has gone by after Boren did his temper tantrum. Now, bowlsby comes back and spanks him in the butt…

    Bowlsby to Boren:
“If you let go, I’m going to have to jump in after you..” (titantic)

“Get to the Choppa!!!, do it.. do it now!!”

“Run for the hills, run for your lives…”

  • Sooner Scoop says:

In my opinion, Buddy Hield is good, Wayman Tisdale was great. He was an All-American as a freshman, sophomore, and junior. Think about this, he was chosen #2 in the NBA, look at the company of players in that draft class…Karl Malone, Chris Mullins, Charles Oakley, #1 Patrick Ewing, Joe Dumars, A.C. Green….etc etc. Those are the who’s who of basketball greatness.

Tisdale and it’s not even close.

  • David Morris says:

    Good Morning everyone and BOOMER!

  • TSFFKAG says:

It’s kinda like asking who is better, Wilt the Stilt or M. Jordan? Different eras, different styles, different positions, different opponents, etc. Or, “If Mohammed Ali was really the best boxer, why did he back up his entire career?”

    • MoJoOkie says:

Boxer does not necessarily mean slugger.

    • Golfluvr13 says:

Ali was a great tactician. He would let you wear yourself out chasing him and throwing wild punches, then he would go in for the kill.

      • TSFFKAG says:

He won close fights based largely on his flamboyant personality in a time when opportunists saw his mouth as being good for their wallets. Ken Norton and a Joe Frazier (in his prime) were better, but they didn’t play to the press. Ali was pure gold in promoting the sport, so this was reflected in the biased score cards. In short, as usual, it’s all about the money. IMHO

        • Golfluvr13 says:

I’ve always believed that boxing is a fixed sport. The winners were determined before the matches were ever held. Ali was good for the sport and you are right, he wasn’t the greatest boxer. But he was a great tactician and promoter for the sport.

        • MoJoOkie says:

Frazier and Norton were good punchers, but I wouldn’t call either a great boxer. Norton had that weird cross handed style because they converted him from southpaw. Frazier was good at ducking and fighting in close, but that was his undoing against Foreman. To me, a great boxer would not stand toe to toe with Foreman in his prime. Ali wore him out in a hot environ and when his arms tired, Ali knocked him out. Ali’s poorer fights were after his incarceration and when he was older. THEN it was all about the money. IMHO

          • TSFFKAG says:

Ali’s team also decided the ring floor cushion depth, ring size, and rope tension for the “Rumble in the Jungle” in Zaire, before a virtual home crowd (Islamic). But alas, you are correct, it really was a successful strategy (rope-a-dope) by an aging Ali against a naïve Foreman… interesting that Ali didn’t afford Foreman a rematch, or arrange a lucrative 3 Match deal the way he did with Frazier.

          • MoJoOkie says:

LOL, I wouldn’t want to make a living out of rematches with a prime George Foreman either. I think Ali, in his prime, could fight as well as anyone. Different style, yes, but effective.

Edit: Actually, Marvin Hagler was one of my favorites to watch. Another converted southpaw, who would revert back when the going got tough. Also liked Duran, although the “no mas” fight still mystifies me (payday I suppose).

          • metzker says:

Ali in his prime?Greatest of all time, absofreakinglutly!!!!!!!!!!!

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Ali in his prime was the greatest. And he always told you so too. 🙂

          • MoJoOkie says:

“It’s not bragging if you can back it up.”

          • Jed says:

TSF, this is not criticism. I just do the intl affairs thingie and it’s important to me that we get the facts right. Zaire, now Congo, is roughly 80% Christian (split prett evenly between Catholics and Protestants) and 10% Muslim (internally divided between several sects).
This was true in the 1970’s as well, though the numbers were more strongly Catholic then.
Islam in Africa hits a wall around the southern edge of the Sahara. Below that line, Christianity and native animism rule. And they defend their turf stoutly.

          • TSFFKAG says:

You are absolutely correct. Long story – short, the Islamic community was more vocal in there support for Ali.

  • Eric Hutton says:

Question- does brother Mike recruit at all? You never see him in any pics or tweets!

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

    Good morning everyone

    • SoonerMagic76 says:

      Morning Dave!

    • SamSooner says:

      Morning!

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

howdy Sam, how are you today Sir?

        • SamSooner says:

I am well. We are one day closer to the chaos ending, that ‘cruitin’ chaos. I don’t think I’m going to check in that day. I have a feeling folks are going to come undone.

What about you? How are you?

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Im good, finally beating this cold and as for recruiting if OU gets Kelly, Moore, and Farrar OUr class jumps into the top 15. Not great but certainly decent.

          • SamSooner says:

Well, that’ll be an improvement. Trending up. I’ll take it.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

plus there is usually a NSD surprise add or two so this isn’t a total loss. plus they are really improving the D in this class.

          • SamSooner says:

I’m concerned that there is some negative recruiting regarding OU. We have great tradition. If you look at Bama, Auburn, Georgia, almost any college, take your pick, they face the same location problem as OU. These campuses are located in small towns. There are exceptions: tOSU and Georgia Tech, for example, are located downtown: Columbus, Ohio and Atlanta, Georgia. If these kids are chasing a particular atmosphere, how do you explain Georgia Tech not being able to land their choice of recruits. I mean, GT is downtown Atlanta and that’s a beautiful campus with some beautiful Georgia peaches (hint, hint).

Something is not right and Stoops is not playing that game. He’s not wading in the cesspool.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Bob isn’t going to bend rules or pressure kids to improve his recruiting rank

          • SamSooner says:

And I like it: lose honestly but don’t win dishonestly.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Yeah, that’s the way it should be

    • Golfluvr13 says:

      Morning Dave.

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

howdy Golf, it’s going to be warm enough this weekend to hit a bucket or two of balls

        • Golfluvr13 says:

Yes it is, in fact my Dad just drove by my office on the way to the golf course. I’m so jealous!

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Yeah that would be awesome to do on a random Wednesday morning

          • Golfluvr13 says:

He calls me in the spring and summer every Thursday morning and asks what I am doing and then tells me he is headed to the golf course. Drives me nuts. I want to be retired someday to do that to my kids. LOL

          • RocketCitySooner says:

Time to rub it in. I am retired. I live just across the street from the Country Club. I can walk to the club house but I usually drive my golf cart. Don’t know if I’ll be hitting balls today, only up to 49 degrees but we’ll see. Working is tough. Retirement is good.

          • SamSooner says:

            Hit’em good and not frequently.

          • RocketCitySooner says:

Great advice but, regrettably, advice I find very difficult to follow. I can hook a sand wedge off a concrete parking lot.

          • SamSooner says:

If that’s your best shot, hit your balls into the parking lot. LOL!

          • RocketCitySooner says:

People with cars in the lot complain a lot.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Come out to my neck of the woods and play. There aren’t many cars in the parking lot and we have the best public course in the state of Kansas and probably the third best private course in Kansas.

          • RocketCitySooner says:

Very kind of you to invite. Don’t get out that way too often but if you’re ever in North Alabama, let me know

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I’d like to get there. That is one of the few states I have never visited.

          • RocketCitySooner says:

North Alabama has a lot to offer. One of the top bass lakes in the US (Guntersville). Good deer hunting too. A lot like Eastern Oklahoma. Good people too once you get past the WarEagle/RollTide BS. Huntsville is one of the high tech centers of the US. All the Army missile systems are managed out of here. NASA has a big presence too.

The military assigned me here in the early 70s and I’ve been here since.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Yeah, I actually looked into Huntsville when my wife and I decided we were going to leave Kansas City.

          • RocketCitySooner says:

Curious. What turned you off to Huntsville?

          • Golfluvr13 says:

My Dad offered to sell his company to us for a very reduced price. I had a good job offer in Tulsa, OK. but the chance to be my own boss was too hard to turn down.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I hear you! Sometimes I can hit the ball down the middle with ease. Other times, I never know where it’s going. UGH!

          • SamSooner says:

I’m going to try and squeeze as much as I can into my trip to Norman this year. Should I bring my clubs?

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Well that is up to you. I am 5.5 hours from Norman so you will have to plan ahead!

          • SamSooner says:

I guess you’re not coming. LOL!

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I am planning a trip to Norman for the KU game, as my best friend and his wife are chickenhawk fans and they want to go to the game and spend a day shopping in OKC.

          • SamSooner says:

            Chickenhawk. LMAO.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I’ve called them that my entire life. Being born and raised in SW Kansas lends you to a certain perspective of things. Growing up it was more Sooner country than anything, now it is a mixed bag of KU, KSU, and OSWho along with a ton of Sooner fans.

          • RocketCitySooner says:

Enjoy your youth while you can. Every year I get a bit older and hit the ball a bit shorter. At least I don’t lose as many golf balls now.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Sometimes on our courses you can see your golf ball, but it is a lost ball because there is a rattlesnake close to it. That can be on the fairway too.

          • RocketCitySooner says:

Haven’t seen any rattlers on our course. We have a couple of creeks with a few cotton mouth. I’d rather have the rattlers.

So, how do you play the ball? Lost ball is stroke and distance. Do you just take a free drop a few yards away?

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Even in some tournaments the will let you drop a ball as close to where yours is with no penalty. The trick is you have to actually find your ball.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

LOL! Well I live right off of a golf course. But I haven’t touched my clubs in a few months. Hit ’em straight!

    • metzker says:

      Morning Dave

  • Kelly Gurbcock says:

seeing more and more predictions for Cobb to Baylor. that’s gross.

  • TSFFKAG says:

I appreciate the “No Drama ” approach of people such as Bryce Youngquist and Caleb Kelly, etc.

    • SamSooner says:

I’m going to announce my commitment on NSD. #WaitOnIt

    • Sooner Scoop says:

I think some of the drama is created by media and organizations. The whole I’m going to announce at the —- game of some sort wasn’t started by the student athlete.

    • Soonerboyz says:

It seems Kelly’s recruiting saga gaining ‘ drama momentum’

  • Soonerfan24 says:

If you could choose one position for OU to get a NSD surprise at, which would it be? WR, OT, DT, LB?

    • SamSooner says:

Is there a position called “All”?

      LOL!

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

      WR. Not even close IMHO.

    • TSFFKAG says:

If forced to choose by threat of breaking my arm, I would sing “DT” like a canary.

    • BigJoeBrown says:

      DT…..come on Daniels!

    • Bob Edwards says:

In a WR heavy offense we only have two HS WR’s coming in and one is listed as an athlete.
AT OT we currently have two freshmen playing and a number of what would should be serviceable backups.
DT we had a big class last year and actually have too many on scholarship if we continue the 3-4.
We already have three LB’s committed. The issue with LB’s seems more lack of experience than lack of bodies.

So, on the whole, I would say WR is probably our biggest need.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

I can’t believe I am saying it but House Hunters is straight up addictive. I knew a couple of people that were on House Hunters International.

  • Eric Hutton says:

A little concerning Caleb Kelly is posting pictures on Twitter of him out in public with Notre Dame gear on?

  • SoonerSouthoftheRed says:

No. 1 team in the country playing and the LNC looked empty from those posted pics. Sad.

    • SamSooner says:

I thought it was a pretty good crowd last night.
What is the seating capacity for LNC vs. Duke’s, Indiana’s, Kansas’ and Kentucky’s arenas?

      • Golfluvr13 says:

        Syracuse is the largest 33,000.
        Kentucky 23,500
        UNC 21,750
        Duke 9,314
        KU 16,300
        Indiana 17,472
        OU 11,528

        • SamSooner says:

          Kentucky, 23K. Wow!
Syracuse, meh! That’s all they have in the winter time.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I have been to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse. It is a dump in a dumpy area.

          • SamSooner says:

Yeah. I heard that Syracuse is not all that it’s made out to be.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I spent three days in that town setting up a computer system. I told my boss if he ever threatened to send me back there I would quit first. It is a city that is a dump. Dirty nasty town.

    • Rick says:

There was over 8K in the stands, I too, wished it was full, but I am glad the games are getting sold out (some of them) and not looking like it did when the former coach was here.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

      6pm Tuesday game.

      • Bob Edwards says:

Yeah a 6PM game can be tough for a guy who works 8-5 and has a commute.

      • cush creekmont says:

THIS! Just an awful time – can’t get there from work, middle of the week, and better games upcoming – all lend to smaller. Still, this seems to be much better than the past regime. Thanks, thanks, and thanks to Lon Kruger.

        • Golfluvr13 says:

I just barely made the tip on TV. Made it home and grabbed a quick bite to eat before sitting down to watch it.

          • Slim Sooner says:

I had to miss this one. Grandson had Jr. High and HS games last night plus Homecoming festivities. Got home too late. Don’t like missing, but OUr boys did just fine without me.

          • soonerinks says:

Took my grand daughter to her basketball game and recorded the OU game and watched it when I got back from her game. Her team lost but the Sooners won so it’s all good.

The students are going to have to carry the torch for weekday games. Take your girl on a date that includes catching a game, Taco Bell later.

          • cush creekmont says:

Yes. They really do need to. I am out of touch – How high are student tickets?

          • BleedCrimson says:

They were 5 dollars last night, if I remember correctly.

          • cush creekmont says:

Less than a movie. I would expect a lot of kids to show for a team this good. Half-a-million years ago when I went to OU, we made it a few times, but we were paying our way through school making money hard to come by; plus the old field house didn’t hold that many – so sometimes there were few seats.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Taco Bell?? I eat there like once a decade.

          • SamSooner says:

The last time I was at Taco Bell was on my wedding night, 18 years ago. Everyone knows the bride and groom don’t get to eat at the reception because you’re kissing a** all night. We stopped at a Taco Bell, the car in front of us paid for our meal.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

LOL! We went to Arby’s on our wedding night. It was the first food place we came to and we both said it was fine for how hungry we were.

          • Bob Edwards says:

I wasn’t aware that what Taco Bell served was edible.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

It’s not! Speaking of Taco Bell I read a thing the other day that said, think your job is bad. Just remember someone has to clean the bathrooms at Taco Bell!

          • DrewChubbs says:

I have my crappy job, AND I have to clean my bathroom after Taco Bell.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Moral of the story, don’t got to taco bell! LOL

          • DrewChubbs says:

Sometimes, it’s a necessary evil. I work late a lot, and it’s easier to access than Whataburger.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Oh man it’s a good time to stock up on peanut butter and jelly then. 🙂

          • SamSooner says:

It isn’t. I had rice in my ground beef burrito. All I could think about was eating maggots.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Thank you for that visual. At least I’m not eating lunch. LOL

          • SamSooner says:

I aim to please. Besides, I hear maggots have lots of protein.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Maggots probably have more actual meat in them than the “beef.”

          • SamSooner says:

Funny. I’m going to be sick.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Sorry, having kids who came from third world countries I am used to non American standards for food. One time I brought home a joke piece of candy called “apple with worm.” It was an apple candy with a caterpillar of some sort in it. One of my asian girls ate it.

          • SamSooner says:

I’m postponing lunch for an hour.

          • Bob Edwards says:

I’ll stop. Though I could talk about some of the stuff my mom used to make. She grew up in the Great Depression and let’s just say she didn’t let anything go to waste.

          • SamSooner says:

I know. I haven’t eaten chitterlings or maws since I was 10 years old.
From the rooter to the tooter.

Did you read “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair?

          • Bob Edwards says:

            If I did I don’t remember it.

          • SamSooner says:

I had to read it for U.S. History, Formative. It’s a story about how people took advantage of Irish immigrants. There were some chapters dedicated to meat packing plants. I was cured of processed meats for a while.

          • cush creekmont says:

It helped bring about the Meat Inspection Act in the early 1900s. Prep and worker conditions were beyond horrid.

          • SamSooner says:

Yep: spoiled and rancid meat was tossed back into vats and mixed with fresh meat.

          • Jed says:

Yummy, yummy deep fried Thai palmetto bugs (that’d be ‘free range’ cockroaches). Crunchy, salty goodness.

          • Bob Edwards says:

The best one was one day when we were at the zoo one of my daughters pointed at a specimen and asked if we had ever had one (ie eaten it). Had to say no. We were in the bat house. Apparently the wings are crunchy when cooked.

          • Jed says:

Ah, bat on a stick. Big deal in micronesia. Think a pound of jerky on a stick.
My daughter (half Japanese) weirded out folks at the Jenks aquarium by exclaiming as a five year old, while pointing at one of the fish, “Oh man, those are delicious!”

          • DrewChubbs says:

            That’s so romantic!

    • OUn8v says:

I read a tweet last night that said actual attendance was just over 8K.

  • cush creekmont says:

Glad to see everyone being calm and reasonable today – I am a little slow because my Secobarbital, Diazepam, Zolpidem cocktail to keep me out until 7:00 AM Feb 3rd, seems to have left me a week short of target. Still, I am positive and ready for a cluster of BOOMS.
