– Earlier this month, OU hosted 4 star 2019 OT, Jonah Tauanu’u (Harbor City, CA)…

I recently caught up with Jonah’s mother, Melissa and the visit went very well.

So well that they have already made the decision to return, “Our only plan to return is for the official visit. Although someone did mention it would only be about a two-hour drive from the Nike Opening later this month. I’m considering stopping by but I believe that might be a dead period”.

It would be the dead period but their desire to return is obviously noteworthy.

Melissa says there is no date set for the official. She was upfront about where OU stands after this most recent visit, “We haven’t locked in the official for OU yet we just know its for sure in the top five”.

In terms of other official visits, Melissa said, “Oregon is the only other for sure official.

Jonah took a recent unofficial visit to Florida. The plan moving forward is as follows, “LSU, Auburn and Ole Miss the last week of July. Then at that point me and Jonah will discuss things and start finalizing official dates”.

Again, OU has put themselves in the mix but Jonah and his family are going to go through the process. – (Super K)

– After some additional digging from both Super K and myself, here is the latest we have in regards to defensive back recruiting for 2019

*In speaking with a source, OU is looking to take as many as four additional defensive backs, while already holding onto the verbal commitment from Jamal Morris

*Focus remains on Chris Steele and Jaden Davis and there will always be a spot for Dax Hill

*Others who the Sooners are focusing on include Woodi Washington, Isaiah Rutherford, Trikweze Bridges, Jeffery Carter, Jalen Catalon, Cornelius Nunn

*Source was quite optimistic in saying “July should be a fun month”

We will have more for you on Woodi Washington soon. – (Charlie)

Late last month Oklahoma and Coach Bedenbaugh moved forward with an offer for 2019 Kansas City, MO Rockhurst Danielson Ike.

For those of you that don’t know much about Ike, he is originally from Nigeria and moved to the states in 2015 where he initially resided in Miami, FL. After that, he moved to Kansas City he says and played his first season of football this past season as a Jr at Rockhurst. Now you will find him listed at 6’6″ and anywhere around 300-315 pounds or so but tells me he is actually currently at 340-pounds so he is a massive human being.

Recruiting:

This past January he started to see his recruitment take off a bit by reeling in offers from programs like Iowa State, Louisville, Nebraska, Missouri, and Stanford. But it was during the spring when it really took off when Alabama, Michigan, and Oklahoma all offered last month.

The Sooners have been in contact with Ike for quite a while now as Bedenbaugh has been working on building that relationship with Ike by staying in constant contact.

“He and I talk like every day,” Ike stated. “He talks to me about the fact that they are going to lose 5-6 offensive lineman after this year so the chance to come in and get on the field immediately is there.”

That is key for Ike due to not wanting to redshirt wherever he goes. Last season he visited Norman for the Iowa State game and came away really impressed by everything he saw including the city of Norman itself. But it was the facilities that he says are just on a different level.

“I’ve been to a lot of different schools and their facilities are some of the best I have seen. They are top notch.”

As far as what he will major in at the next level, Ike has his mind made up already.

“International Business and Entrepreneurship,” Ike said. “I want to travel the world and make money while I’m doing it.”

Other schools that are standing out to Ike at this time include Iowa State, Louisville, Michigan, and Alabama. He will be in Ann Arbor this weekend for a visit he said and has plans to visit Alabama here soon. Oklahoma will get a return visit from him in July although Ike stated a date hasn’t been set yet so not sure if that will be for the BBQ or not. But will work to stay on top of that as we move forward. – (Alex)

– Yesterday, sources let us know that Walter Brady, a grad transfer DL from Middle Tennessee State, was currently on a visit to OU

Brady signed with Missouri back in 2015 and was named a Freshman All-American. He later transferred out when the Missouri staff went through some turnover and his DL coach, Coach Kool (Craig Kullgowski, currently Bama’s DL Coach) left to pursue another job.

– Following the visit, Super K was in touch with some sources close to Walter who said the visit went very well as Brady got to spend some time with Coach Lincoln Riley as well as with Coach Thibodeaux.

All signs are pointing to an offer possibly coming in short order, after the Sooners do some due diligence with transcripts and what not.

We will keep you posted. – (Charlie)
