Note on Trey Carter Visiting Texas

Coach Smith (Trey’s coach) let us know that Trey was invited down to Texas this weekend so he will be taking an unofficial visit there. For folks that are already projecting him to Texas we think its premature unless something VERY drastic changes. Because even if an offer comes from Texas, Trey is very high on Oklahoma. He’s got a lot of respect for Coach Montgomery and they keep in touch often. He’s also not a TX kid. He’s originally from Louisiana. And his father played D-line in college and our guess is he knows Trey probably fits Oklahoma’s scheme a little better. But perhaps the most important selling point for Oklahoma is the blue collar work ethic. Trey is an incredibly hard working young man as we noted in our recent feature about him (https://thefootballbrainiacs.com/?p=577) and wants to be pushed so that he can reach his maximum potential. Oklahoma tends to have a reputation for doing just that.

Me wants. Hopefully we turn him into a beast NT…and I can watch some debbies moan that he’s not a 6 start recruit

Yeah, he’s someone that needs to be close to the ball. His film at the Nose is great. Those long arms and quickness in there would be savagely disruptive.

There are so few top rated DT’s that you need projects. Long term or short term, you need kids like Trey. They are out there, but for some reason they are maturing much later than even OL’men and qb’s.

Carter has been a stud for a while. His JR film is so nice. The only folks developing late are the big recruiting services. But surprise surprise Scout has suddenly/miraculously bumped Carter to a 4 star. His tape from last year, his character and his pedigree were enough to be a much higher rated prospect much earlier in the process. But somehow the mainstream recruiting services are only just now “seeing” it. As if something really changed in Trey’s game. Nothing significant changed but his offer list.

Happens all the time with kids. Affects us greatly as we can’t go to the 5 star kids right away like other schools in better geographical locals.
