K and I were talking and thought it would be cool if we took a look at what K-State did to slow the Baylor attack a few weeks ago. K-State scored more on them than any other team besides West Virginia, and was in it up until the very end. It’s funny sometimes how a game that doesn’t appear to be of any significance turns out to provide the recipe to future opponents on how to slow you down. I remember back in 2003, we were the number one team in the country and oddly enough it was Baylor who came in and blitzed the snot out of us all day long. We ended up winning that game 35-0, but Baylor’s defense hit Jason White all day long, from every direction. I remember sitting in the stands behind the Baylor bench enjoying the rash of smack that the fans were giving to the Baylor punter. Little did I know that day those Baylor Bears were hard at work giving Bill Snyder and his staff the recipe that would destroy us in the 2003 Big XII Championship game. While I apologize for bringing up bad memories, looking at the Baylor K-State game, I think K-State may have given us the recipe this time.
In the coming day or so we will be breaking down some aspects of the Baylor vs. Kansas State game to try and give you a better understanding of Baylor’s offense and defense and how we might be able to attack them. K-State had em in Manhattan, and anyone who’s ever been to the little apple
knows that that place can be a hornet’s nest for opposing teams. Unfortunately we won’t have Baylor at home, but oddly enough I think that may play to our advantage. I know the record just skipped but bear with me (no pun intended). Over the years Coach Bob Stoops and his teams have thrived off of making it a “me against the world” kind of game. I think playing on the road will give our guys an edge that they may not have had at home. An edge provided out of necessity. Reading over the post practice notes and quotes we posted here on Brainiacs, it sounds like the guys are really focused and have taken the extra preparation seriously and will be ready to play Thursday.
