– Firstly, an early happy 4th of July to y’all! We hope everyone has a wonderful and save long weekend with friends and family!
– Also, we want to congratulate JY. On Tuesday, he and his wife and their first baby. They named him Roman Alexander Young!
– STANLEY NORMAN: So in the past couple weeks we’ve talked about John Humphrey, we’ve talked about Ryan Newsome, and we’ve talked about Desean Holmes. But another slot WR/ATH that Oklahoma is actively recruiting is Stanley Norman (he also goes by “Scrappy”). We caught up with Stanley this past week and talked about how things are going with him and OU.
Stanley said he’s being recruited by the Sooners as a WR, however he also said a number of schools are actually recruiting him as a CB. He said he sees himself as both and said, “I would like to play both ways in college if possible”. Apparently Stanley has a lot of family in Monroe, Louisiana and said that is part of the reason he’s interested in OU. He said “the two schools in the south that are recruiting me most heavily are Oklahoma and Alabama.” He said that he’s very open to playing away from home and seems to have an affinity for schools down here because of his family connection to Louisiana.
Stanley talked about how important a coach recruiting him hard is to him and said that Oklahoma keeps in regular contact. He also confirmed plans to take an official visit, but hasn’t quite set a date yet. But he did say that he’s hoping to making it out to the Tennessee game.
Some of the other schools Stanley mentioned he’s interested in are Arizona, Cal, Washington, and UCLA. And although he holds an offer, Stanley made it pretty clear that he’s not particularly interested in USC.
– TORRANCE GIBSON: Last night on Twitter, Torrance Gibson tweeted out (it was a response to a question on ask.fm) that he plans on taking a return trip to Oklahoma later this summer or during the season. I checked with him and it sounds like he does indeed want to get back out to Norman. I’ll try to catch up with him or someone in his camp after the 4th and see where things stand. I can tell you that I spoke to a source recently and OU continues to recruit Torrance, and they actually really like him and believe that given the opportunity they can sell him on their system and the situation. In terms of what the QB competition would be like once he got on campus.
– MICHAEL ANDERSON & ASHTON PRESON: Two OK preps football players made their commitments to D-I schools yesterday. CB Ashton Preston out of Edmond Sante Fee committed to North Texas. And Owasso DE Michael Anderson committed to Tulsa. There are going to be A LOT of FBS signees in this years Oklahoma HS class. And I think y’all are going to see that trend continue as more and more schools recognize there is a lot of talent in this state that goes under-recruited.
– ALEX ROSS (SUMMER NOTES): Hearing that this guy is starting to really put things together and is really impressing a lot of people. No one has ever questioned Ross’s strength, size, speed. But what we’ve heard is Ross is really showing the maturity and continued physical progress that is going to make him a real contender for the top RB spot. In fact, we were told by once source we shouldn’t be surprised if he starts. Though one would guess that, at least early in the season, a game tested back like Keith Ford would hold that spot. But as long as he can stay healthy and keep his emotions under control, whether he’s the starter or not, Ross will see the field a lot. And while everyone got a good sense of what Ford can do last season, Ross has game changing speed/size and Sooner fans may get to see that really come together in a complete RB this season.
– MIKE MITCHELL: Jeremey Fowler from CBS reported that former Ohio State Buckeye and OU recruit Mike Mitchell will have to sit out for a year before being able to get on the field at Texas Tech. NCAA did not grant him a waiver.
– JAYLEN WATERS: You know one of our favorite things on here is to introduce y’all to new players. With Oklahoma having moved to an odd front, the need for big and physical inside LBs is high. The days of spinning safeties down to LB might be slowly fading away. Just take a look at Anthony Wheeler. Wheeler hasn’t even started his senior season, and he’s already 6’2″ 220 lbs. Like Wheeler, Jaylen Waters certainly has the size of an inside linebacker. He measured in at the NFTC combine at 6’2″ and already weighing in at 230 lbs! He had fantastic times at the NFTC event. He ran a blazing 4.69 forty on the laser (meaning he’s probably somewhere in the 4.5s to low 4.6 range hand-timed). He also had a fantastic timed shuttle at 4.25 and a 32-inch vertical. He’s got all the measurables. While OU needs big physical ILBs, they still need guys that run sideline-to-sideline and drop in coverage.
When you look at the film, you see a player who is fundamentally sound. He’s patient, fits and form tackles. He closes quickly and gives up little to no ground on the tackle. And as big as he is he can still run, change direction, and tackle well in space. He also as great sense of when to be patient and when to fly through the gap, shed the block and make the tackle in the backfield. This was something our young ILBs struggled with this past season. Instead of letting the OL come off a combo and block him or wall him off, he just blows the play up. The longer the film rolls the more you’ll like him. You’ll just see him take on block after block and find his way to the ball carrier. Waters really is a throw back type ILB but with the more athleticism. He’s the kind of player who really doesn’t fit schematically into what a lot of the Big 12 schools are trying to do but he looks like he could be a good fit for OU. Definitely someone we’ll keep an eye on.
– DORIAL GREEN BECKHAM: Per Carey Murdock and Sooner Scoop Dorial Green-Beckham is in Norman today and on campus. Despite several other outlets denying any previous contact and/or interest, TFB has maintained this was real since we first mentioned it on the site several weeks ago. Just one example of this below:
This latest development, along with what we’ve previously mentioned on the site, would indicate now multiple trip by DGB and/or his family to Norman.
We’ll continue to update this post throughout the weekend with of course any new DGB developments as well as any other OU related news.
– UPDATE (Thur., 10:02 am): Spoke with a source about the DGB situation and was told that the general desire of the coaches is for DGB to commit to playing two years with OU before jumping to the NFL, so that they can ensure he at least sees the field as a Sooner in case he does not get a waiver.
– UPDATE (Thur., 12:00 pm): It has now been confirmed by multiple people that DGB is indeed meeting with the coaches, which also means he has signed a financial aid agreement with OU. That agreement is a bit of a work around of sorts allowing DGB to meet with the coaches even though we are currently in a recruiting dead period. I think Cale Gundy described this best.
https://twitter.com/jasonkersey/status/484740999067877376
– UPDATE (Thur., 1:09 pm): OU has officially announced Dorial Green-Beckham is joining the program.
– UPDATE (Thur., 2:35 pm): OU’s online roster has been updated to include most of the new jersey numbers for the freshman (even though some have been talked about/out there for a while). Here is a quick run down:
68 Jonathan Alvarez
81 Mark Andrews
18 Curtis Bolton
78 Orlando Brown
63 Alex Dalton
9 Tay Evans
73 Kenyon Frison
50 Courtney Garnett
14 Marcus Green
42 Wesley Horky
23 Vontre McQuinnie
15 Jeffrey Mead
45 Carson Meier
20 Joe Mixon
99 Dwayne Orso
11 Steven Parker
69 Joseph Paul
32 Samaje Perine
2 Michiah Quick
7 Jordan Thomas
16 Dallis Todd
3 Tito Windham
Also worth noting that Josiah St. John, who had previously been listed as a senior, is now listed as a redshirt junior. Which I know was something OU fans had been wondering about. Also, Natrell Curtis no longer listed while Brown and McQuinnie obviously still are. Take that for whatever it’s worth.
UPDATE (Friday, 5:45 am): In case y’all missed it last night OU made the top 10 for New Orleans LB, Arthur McGinnis. His top 10 in no order (but most think TAMU is his favorite so there seems to be at least some semblance of order): TAMU, UCLA, Miss. State, Georgia, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Arizona, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Tennessee.

Does anyone else feel a little awkward about DBG possibly coming to OU?? It’s tough to ignore his talents, but I just feel weird given his recent track record.
That’s kind of you Jim. I’ll have to let him know. And congrats to you!
In RE the DGB thing…don’t know how its going to play out in the long run but in the near term I suspect there is going to be some OU bashing from other fan bases.
Are you kidding? The bashing began WEEKS ago at the very thought that DGB even considered OU. I’m sure (or at least hope) that DGB understands that he’s in a sensitive situation. Could he skip out and go draft in ’15? Sure. But will NFL execs be wary of his lack of recent play that result in him falling down the draft boards? Or is the prudent decision to sit out a year at OU, let recent events fade away some, succeed as a SR, get exposure, and then shoot for 1st/2nd round in 2016?
Tell JY he’s for a world of emotions he didn’t know he had. I now know the meaning behind people saying “I didn’t know I could love something this much”.
I’m in the Trust Bob & His Staff camp on this one. If they think they can keep the kid clean, and turn his career around. Great. If not, I’m sure he’ll be on a short leash. Also like making him commit to two years, especially if he isn’t allowed to play next season. What are the chances on that? I’d assume slim, since transferring b/c of getting in trouble with drugs probably isn’t a good excuse to leave and be able to play immediately. Though we could probably use him this year.
Thanks Jim, really appreciate it! Congrats on your son. Who knows, maybe someday they’ll be tailgaiting together!
Thanks! Yeah, that would be something. I want to take him to opening kickoff (Aug 30th), which is his 1st birthday, but wife would probably divorce me.
I hope this DGB news doesn’t stop y’all from watching Jaylen Waters film
Jaylen is very instinctive, strong, and a very sure tackler especially in space. What I really like is he seems to “slide” by blockers. Never takes on a blocker since he slides. Also, I always watch to see if they keep moving their legs when tackling or being blocked, he has no problem. In an earlier post on another player, JY mentioned ghost like abilities. Same with Jaylan and he does well in coverage too.
Be great to see the eval of Wheeler/Waters/& some of the others they are recruiting. Also, of current LB’s we hear bits and pieces of Evans in the middle. I would like to get a breakdown on what he does well.
Agree with your points. I noticed that as well but was also really happy to see him take on plenty of blockers in the hole later in his film and showed his ability to shed and tackle. It got painful watching our LBs getting beat up last year. Just not easy for a Sooner to swallow.
In the past I never had to watch our backers getting pushed around. The when Wort and some of the others came through, they couldn’t shed the blocker. Also, when hit, their legs would stop as they were being overpowered. I’m excited about our current backers growth but they are still young and hope this summer puts on more mass.
This guy doesn’t shed blocks. He is a shape shifter. He turns from vapor to stone wall in .05 seconds. I want him in Crimson and Cream!
Would you say that Waters is very “fluid”!
Excellent observation!
I get some down time in the next few days i’ll give him a look.
Haha. That’s exactly what I did lol. Holy crap, dude is fast! And closes his tackles. Depending on how the other targets pan out, this is a want!
Watched the film, love the player, and eagerly await any updates to the Open Post!
Congrats JY! You’re not gonna sleep for a good week or two!
Or six.
We’re ready!
You’ll be fine! Just keep supporting each other and enjoy the little moments with your precious newborn. They go by fast!
Yeah, I haven’t gotten a wink since monday, so I’m good. Working nights for 7 of the last 15 years has set me up pretty well. Thanks sir to one of the original readers!
Absolutely! I remember when my son was born. It was late August of 2007, just in time for the start of football season. We had his room all decked out in OU stuff, and he had an OU onesie that he wore every Saturday while we sat on the couch and watched Sam Bradford obliterate opposing defenses. The first game of every season reminds me of those days! Enjoy it, they’ll be gone before you know it!
Is OU recruiting Waters rights now?? He looks good and I like how he doesn’t give up on plays.
They haven’t been in contact yet but hopefully they will. I think he’s a kid to at least keep tabs on in case Wheeler ends up at Texas. Though an argument could be made that Waters exceeds Wheelers ability in certain areas.
That’s why I was asking, the guy has a motor and looks to have great instincts. I want him at OU.
Does indeed have a good motor. And he’s a polished LB. Very sound.
Confirmation of the original report.

And another

So what are the ncaa rules regarding him visiting during the dead period? Anyone know???
Yes. Working on a post re: this very subject, but for now here is a word-for-word defintion from the NCAA on what a dead period consists of:
“During a dead period a college coach may not have face-to-face contact
with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, and may not watch
student-athletes compete or visit their high schools. Coaches may write
and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period.”
Essentially meaning it is not a violation for him to be on campus (or OU never would have allowed it in the first place), but by rule he also cannot meet with or converse w/ the coaches.
Gotcha, thanks!
The catch there may be”college coach”. DGB and his family could be meeting with “athletic department” officials. I don’t see any need for the coaches to evaluate his talent so it seems a “come to Jesus” talk from admin about expected conduct is part of this situation. If I were Stoops that is where I would want that talk coming from. I am glad to see OU not falling all over itself to get this guy; he must meet OU’s needs and conform to its plans. Nice to see the program in charge instead of the player.
https://twitter.com/thejordanburton/status/484710149999714304
Interesting indeed. Charges apparently still pending
Isn’t this similar to the situation that Shannon was kind of in? A lot of accusations but charges haven’t been/were not pressed.
Well with Shannon a decision was made to not pursue. But in this case, as I understand it, the charges against DGB are still pending.
Yeah, with Shannon it’s a case of the university has its own process for the two students involved.
Congrats JY! Hold him and kiss him everyday, he’ll be getting his Drivers License way before you know it or ready.
Where does Waters Play HS Ball? Is OU talking to him?
He’s from Copperas Cove, TX. He hasn’t had any contact with OU yet. He’s kind of sleeper in this area and I suspect it’s because he’s not a traditional Big 12 LB (though TCU usually likes a nice thumper in the middle). He’s built more like an SEC/B1G LB. In fact Minnesota offered him. Texas Tech has a 5’9 204 lb LB committed.
You guys need a direct line to Stoops’s office…
I’ve thought the same thing many times…
A little off topic but does anyone think ou will land more guys from Louisiana this year than they will from oklahoma? Not a bad thing at all with the talent in Louisiana but this is a strong oklahoma senior class.
This year? No. But it could be a possibility going forward as they have put in a serious effort to establish a presence down there. But even w/ that, they’ll still always (and understandably) put a considerable focus on local OK kids.
I think it depends on how things go with other recruits and where OU decides to put late offers. Also, if Oklahoma lands Tyrell Jacobs, Cody Ford and Garrett Thomas that would already be 3 which matches the 3 expected out of Oklahoma (Overton, Barnett and Sunderland). So while it may not be likely, it is isn’t out of the question.
And there’s bo Wallace and a couple others but not sure if ou is really close on those like it seems they are on Jacobs ford and Thomas. But I hope they do close 3 or 4 kids from there it helps getting kids from there and also if Danley comes that’s a few more over the last few years from the gulf region.
And right on cue McGinnis from New Orleans released a top ten with ou on the list. At number 6 but said in no order.
Congrats JY! Being a dad is the best thing in the world! May be the only thing that beats out Oklahoma football…lol…
The year I was born, we won a natty in 75, so I’m hoping my boy keeps the trend going.
This would be rather interesting (if true, which is not what is being reported. Just speculation as far as I can tell)

With the use of the 3-3-5 defense it seems necessary to have bigger linebackers thatn before. If the 5th player in the secondary is expected to provide pass coverage and support the run that he would be the Roy or hybrid. Defending the run has to be an area of improvement for OU this next season.
I’m hopeful you’ll find some of this helpful
https://thefootballbrainiacs.com/ncaas-cfb-recruiting-calendar-ou-oklahoma-sooners-football-dorial-green-beckham
So is it a foregone conclusion that DGB is a sooner then? Probably sits out a year, and comes in for 2016.
Trying to see the positive side of this given all the ambivalence- He’ll make practice interesting for our DBs. Sanchez, Parker or PJ Mbanasor vs. DGB is a great matchup
Foregone conclusion? Certainly not.
BAM! 😉
Not exactly a great pic, but nonetheless
https://twitter.com/jasonkersey/status/484739197987610624
How about Kersey hiding in the bushes? Got to get the story somehow! LOL!
Well, he’s not alone. Every OU beat guy posted almost the identical pic. Kersey just got his up first.
LOL!
I thought the coaches couldn’t have contact now. Emig’s second tweet would make sense though.
There is some work around to where he sign a financial aid agreement with the university, or some form of this statement to where he can have contact with the coaches.
If Stoops allows this he deserves to be fired! DGB not only has been in trouble with drugs but has been accused of theft or attempted theft & pushing an 18 year old girl down a flight of stairs. The only reason he was not charged is she was a friend of DGB’s girlfriend who asked her not to press charges.
Did you feel the same way about Dusty Dvoracek?
Yes. And there’s a difference in getting in a drunken fight with a man than pushing an 18 year old girl down a flight of stairs.
Disciplinary action should not be determined by being a Sooner. That’s being biased and a hypocrite. The only big difference here is that it was a woman. And Steve, if was 4 stairs; hardly a flight. Don’t over-exaggerate like the press, please.
Never said it did. Stoops disciplined him when was apart of the Sooners squad. I don’t see the need to bring in someone else’s headache no matter his relationship with Norvell and staff.
Now your comments make no sense. Why does it matter that DD was apart of the team when Stoops disciplined him? Why is that a huge difference from DGB being disciplined by Mizzou?
As Phins said, untested. We’re stacked with potential. DGB is proven. That is a big difference.
And don’t you EVER imply that my statement was a condonement of his actions towards a woman. EVER. I was simply pointing out that you are exaggerating the story to attempt to support your argument.
Oh…so it’s okay he only threw her down 4 stairs? How would you feel if that were your wife, daughter or sister or mom he threw down ONLY 4 steps?
It’s still battery whether it’s 2, 4 or 10 steps. It’s still a crime.
its a good thing joe don looney was a good ball player. bud gave him three or four chances. everyone deserves chances to change. why waste this young mans talent if he can change and become productive. we dont have much to lose.
Glad you brought up Joe Don Looney. He’s a perfect examole of what OU should not do. Joe Don Looney didn’t change & was booted off the team. Bud said that JDL was the biggest mistake of his career. JDL was an enormous embarrassment for the University. He continued to be a turd in the pros & hastened the end of his career.
What is past is prologue.
And another big difference is Dusty was already a Sooner. I don’t see the need to bring him in with his baggage when we are already stacked with WR.
Stacked but untested.
Yes, I did. Stoops shouldn’t have brought him back. Luckily DD didn’t relapse until he was with the Bears but it’s a risk I don’t think OU should’ve taken. If anyone jumped through the hoops or worked harder than DD to earn that chance, I haven’t seen it. But I still think Bob should’ve supported the decision he made. BTW…DD was a real student who made good grades if memory serves. In this case, I’ll bet he’s asking coaches why there’s no football major.
That is a strong statement.
Yes it is! And whether it’s 1 step or a 1000 you never lay a hand on a woman in a violent manner. If you can support that then that’s your problem Jim.
Wouldn’t the Dean of Students also have to approve this? Since he is a student first.
Fired?? Dumb post is dumb.
You have your opinion and I have mine & yes if Stoops brings him in it should be a black mark on his resume.
Why should it be a black mark on his resume? DGB doesn’t alter anything that Stoops has done and he’s being given a chance. Have you never been given a second chance in anything?
Mix Zou gave gave a 2nd and 3rd chance & was finally booted.
we have nothing yo lose and everything to gain. he didnt kill anyone. give the kid another chance. if he screws up again, hes gone. no big deal.
This isn’t a kid, it is an adult male. OU’s reputation alone will suffer plenty. We have a great deal to lose.
Reread last statement
I trust in Stoops’ judgment. I don’t agree with violence towards women but I do believe that offering this kid a second chance at a different school may end up making him a better person. He’d be on a short leash anyway. Stoops fired over considering this? That’s ridiculous. But hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
I don’t either but let it happen somewhere else.
Wow that’s a pretty hard stance! But if everything you said is factual I definitely can’t fault you for your opinion!!! Everybody’s perspective is a bit different on these things it seems. Some guys are just worried about winning games others maybe have daughters or sisters and it becomes very real to them. I was Wondering how you felt about the Frank Shannon “alleged” misconduct and Steven Parker’s DUI before his OU career really starts?
I’m okay with someone making mistakes so have no problem with Parker and far as Shannon all I’ve heard is a he said she said scenario. If her version did happen then I say seeya don’t let the door hit him in that ass on the way out.
I think it was just a PI, I could be wrong.
You probably right I couldn’t remember!
I think Stoops’ track record in this regard speaks for itself. If he thinks DGB would be a good fit for the program, than who are any of us to question that? People are capable of change, and maybe a change in environment would benefit this kid in the long run. How good would it make both DGB and OU look if this kid does sign, get his act together and become a success story.
Well, I graduated from OU, unlike Bob, I give money to the University every year, and Bob’s decision making has been suspect at times. Think Jarboe, Wall, Bomar, etc. Think about hiring Bruce Little. Look what happened to our D when BV took over. Of course I give Bob tremendous kudos for recognizing those mistakes by bringing Mike back as well as Month, Boulware & Bedenbaugh and shedding coaches that didn’t belong. So I think there are plenty of us in good position to question Bob Stoops. I think the world of Bob and I’m grateful to have him as coach. But he is not God, and God is the only one beyond question.
i trust stoops. he is above god for me.
You’re in a good position to question Bob. Does this mean you give hundred of thousands or millions of dollars to the program? Or, did you give your $100 bucks a year to be able to be in this “position” to do the questioning. If you are in this position, why the heck are you on this post. You should be meeting with him and Joe C discussing your displeasure.
Well Steve, it looks like Stoops is going to be fired by you. He went ahead and accepted him to the team.
Yeah me firing him is really going to carry any weight but thanks for reply.
agree, dumb post. too many perfect people in oklahoma.
AWESOME NEWS FOR JY! Congratulations to you and your Family! One more NEW SONNER FAN HAS ARRIVED!
Yes sir. He’s already got his gameday duds and he’ll be ready to go in September!
Happy for ya JY, don’t let this get in the way of TFB 🙂
LOL nice
Thought you’d might like that one K
nice! haaha. Nah, I now have an assistant!
Congratulations for JY and his bride.
Your life has officially changed forever.
The LB Waters video is tremendous, would love to see him at OU.
As for the other big news of the day, I am less than pleased.
Thanks sir. Rally appreciate it!
Congrat’s JY. A future OU O lineman I’m sure.
I hope so! Kid has hands as big as his face. I just hope that he’s not a pretty boy.
Welp, it’s now official. DGB is coming to OU.
That was quick. Hopefully it pays off.
I know, right
Well my favorite player will the 1st defensive player that rearranges his grill.
Steve, may we all hope to be as perfect as you. I’m sure you’ve been a straight arrow all your life and never breaking the law. Now, what he did is wrong, period. I know as I volunteered at a women’s batter shelter for several years.
Second chances, do you believe in them? The big guy upstairs does.
The leadership on this team will help him along with his counseling. They are very involved in charities and my hope is they will DGB with them. He needs to understand it’s not about him.
Yes, he is a talent but the better story will be what he contributes to society on this second chance.
Exactly right. Taking a hypocritical stance on this is absurd. Hopefully the change of scenery does him well and he can show the glass houses that people can change
Very well said Boom
I believe in second chances. This will be his fourth (that we know of…who knows how many things Mizzou swept under the rug).
I’m not perfect, I’m sure Steve isn’t either. I never beat a woman or trafficked narcotics in my life. I’ll bet Steve hasn’t either.
There’s a big difference between making a mistake and willfully engaging in felonious activity. DGB’s transgressions are not a “mistake”, they are criminal.
has he even been arrested or convicted? you guys are pretty perfect, i know, but not everyone is that perfect. give him a chance. what have we got to lose?
Yes he was arrested…once for trafficking narcotics. Lucky for him he had the weight & influence of Mizzou to take sweep his crimes away for him and a girlfriend who was able to convince the victim to drop her charges and stop cooperating with police. But because he wasn’t convicted I guess that means the crimes didn’t take place? This isn’t a court of law, this is a University football program and it doesn’t require proof beyond a shadow of a doubt. Mizzou booted him off their team….that ought to be enough to say let’s forget about him.
I’m far from perfect but I don’t batter women or traffic narcotics.
Let me ask you this: if we were talking about a mediocre 5’9″ WR, a typical osu 2nd or 3rd option guy, would you be so willing to go to the mat for this guy? That’s rhetorical, but I’ll bet if you are honest with yourself you would say no. I don’t believe degree of athletic ability should trump integrity under any circumstance.
everything I read said both arrests were for marijuana. no mention of narcotics. Maybe you saw something i didn’t.
Marijuana To Remain A Schedule One Narcotic, Court Rules
Source.
He was in possession of one pound for his second arrest, considered by many jurisdictions as intent to distribute.
Appreciate the links ET. I notice the DEA page with the Schedule I listings makes no mention of the word “narcotic,” although I suspect you’re right that the law considers anything that’s seriously prohibited to be “narcotics.” In general usage, I think it refers more specifically to the opiates and think that many folks will have a different reaction to involvement with marijuana than with, say, heroin, even though the law may make no distinction. Doesn’t change the argument that it shows incredibly poor judgement at a minimum to be arrested for possession of a pound of marijuana, but I just thought in the interest of clarity that it might be better not to refer to it simply as “narcotics.”
In terms of the law, it is considered a narcotic, as the court reaffirmed.
Most would consider barbiturates as narcotics, but they are cross tolerant with alcohol.
Very difficult to argue “personal use” if it is a pound. If one does, they are admitting a very serious personal problem.
You don’t know him do you? Let’s go with probly not. But you are willing to label him Al Capone or Tony Montana. Doesn’t necessarily matter how big the mistake, if THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE THESE DECISIONS deem him worthy of a shot, who are you to tell them they made a mistake, before said mistake even happens? The decision is made. Your opinion didn’t matter for much, no matter how much you wanted it to
Very well stated.
Congratulations to my man JY! Under JY’s tutelage, I hope to see Roman Young in crimson and cream some day. Bring on DGB. We should have had him in the first place. He’ll do much better under OU’s direction and knowing he is walking a thin line.
That would be a dream. Gotta get em goin on some footwork and power cleans later this week haha 😉
Time to hit it.
….frankly, I’m stunned and disappointed that ou would take the chance
Not happy.
Two consecutive weeks of good news just crashed.
Meh… He will be an extremely short leash and one wrong move and he will be gone. I hope he turns it around. I trust Stoops gave him and his Father the low down.
…and if that one wrong move involves an incident with a woman
Then he will be gone, but I am quite sure he would not repeat the same offense. I am sure his attitude has changed knowing the severity of the situation and that this is truly his last chance. If he messes up at OU, what NFL team would take him? Knowing that this is his final straw might change his thinking.
well, get ready for a rehash of his exploits at mizzou and where does he go? ou!………just adds to the college football narrative of football factories taking marginal character players b/c they can run fast and catch a ball…………yes, he would be gone after an incident but the fallout with title IX would be huge and damaging…. we are stacked at wr and don’t need this………yes, I’m disappointed in this decision
Me too, brother. I feel nauseous over this decision.
The “Hairy Eyeball” is fully engaged.
Tell that to Josh Jarboe.
Or Lawrence Phillips.
For once we agree.
…….wasn’t aware of a history
i am very happy. kids a player if he gets his stuff together.
Quite frankly, I don’t care if he turns out to be better than Jerry Rice or Calvin Johnson. Some things are more important than athletic ability…like character, integrity, honor, scholarship…
Quite frankly, you are questioning Bob’s integrity. By implying he only wants the kid for what he can do on a football field. You don’t know the first thing about any piece of this equation but you’re on here spouting your opinion like its the only one there should be. Let he that is without sin cast the first stone
We created a stand alone post for this DGB news (!!!) just so this Open Post doesn’t get totally overrun.

..gee, why would you think that……this will make the redskin thread minor………lol

Not following? How is this any different than what we’ve already posted above? Or here? https://thefootballbrainiacs.com/ou-oklahoma-sooners-football-dorial-green-beckham-missouri-tigers-bob-stoops
I reckon I hadn’t refreshed to see the updates yet. Sorry, wasn’t trying to steal your thunder.
Thanks for posting kody! We always welcome links from other sites bud.
Thanks K, I’ll be riding with you and JY until the wheels fall off. Keep up the good work.
We get settled in, me and my little man will be ready for some Trench Warfare this fall!
Easy killer…
Did Orlando Brown and Vontre McQuinnie qualify yet or is that still up in the air with summer classes?
Still up in the air.
Congrats JY! Life, as you know it, has changed. For the better!
Thanks brotha.
Like Super K said it would be a shame if this Open Post got high jacked by nothing but DGB stuff. There is a ton of great info here. Great news on Scrappy Norman & Gibson, really good to see a couple of Oklahoma Prep guys helping spread the word about the Great High School Football played here in this state by committing to D1 schools. Wonderful to hear that it appears as if Ross is turning the corner setting himself up for a nice year! And Waters that guy plays like a MAN! He is quick put he plays even faster than he is because he reads the plays so well. They left him unblocked on the backside of several plays and that was a HUGE MISTAKE! He will be a great LB wherever he plays. Here is hoping it is with the GOOD GUYS! BOOMER!
You forgot the best part…JY’s man-cub!
That was so Special I made a separate entry all for that! Can’t leave out JY jr.
Lovely news and big congratulations to JY and family!
Boomer!
Good news on St John…I always thought he had a redshirt available and was dumbstruck when he didn’t play last year yet was listed as a senior this spring…now hopefully he is gonna be good enough to provide depth and ease the transition when Williams and Thompson leave for the 15 season
Hey guys. I wanted to send a shoutout to all of you for the well wishes, prayers and positive thoughts sent our way. I’m overjoyed about being a new dad, and our little man has both mom and dad wrapped around his finger. You hear it being talked about, but you never fully understand. My friends have always said that it’s overwhelming. Trying to make sure he’s o.k. and mama’s o.k.. I’m a little stressed out, but my faith has given me peace. Thank you all for everything. I’ll be back in the saddle soon. How bout DGB??? Wow! Again thank you all for reading and being part of the Brainiac family.
God bless.
Congrats, JY!
Congrats my on the arrival of your son. Got my first grandchild coming on October. Her parents are ATM grads, but I plan on spoiling her with any and all things crimson and cream.
You will find out soon enough, but I’ll let you in on it now.
Children are a blessing and are wonderful, grandbabies are the BEST.
yeah were pretty excited. only problem is they live in n. carolina and we are in oklahoma. guess i better get a airline credit card
A Baby is a Miracle(unknown)
This little tiny baby
Was sent from God above
To fill our hearts with happiness
And touch our lives with love
He must have known
We’d give our all
And always do our best
To give our precious baby love
And be grateful and so blessed
Best wishes to you JY and your family. Being a Dad is an awesome thing.
Congrats (again) JY, happy to hear everyone is doing well!
There’s no way to explain to someone (without kids) what it’s like (especially in the first few days). Sorry to tell you, but the stress never goes away, it just moves to different things. However, if you love kids, nothing can replicate the joy of having them.
Take extra care of your wife, she’s the one that did the heavy lifting (sounds like you’re already on top of it!).
I don’t know you personally, but you seem to be a good man and I’m sure you’ll make a great dad!
Congrats JY. You are really going to enjoy fatherhood.
Congratulations, JY & Mrs. JY! May Roman be a happy, healthy child that loves his parents as much as they love him.
And to all here, I wish you a safe & happy Independence Day to you and your families. If the overthrow of British tyranny and forming the greatest & most free nation the world has ever seen isn’t worth celebrating, then I don’t know what is.
McQuinnie is supposedly taking 3 summer classes to try and get qualified.
Alex Ross seems to understand that this is his last real shot to seize the starting job. If he isn’t getting significant carries by conference play this year, then he’s likely a career backup. I hope he pulls it out and earns the starting RB spot. I’m not 100% convinced Keith Ford is over his fumblitis.
Last shot? He’s a redshirt sophomore. Brennan clay was a disappointment IMO until his senior year. You never know how things will shake out but with 3 years left of eligibility it’s hard to say this is his last shot. I hope he does succeed this year I hope all the backs do that way they all stay.
I think Ross is the best RB we have. I hope he proves it this year. I’m really excited about the OU backfield.
Ross has potential, but we don’t know how sound he is at blocking or receiving. We might have a better idea if he hadn’t thrown that punch in the ULM game for no reason.
I think Ford is ahead of all the RBs as a complete player, at this time.
What fumblitis?
Ford had two drops and lost one.
They can’t all be Brennan Clay with zero fumbles in four years.
JY, congrats on your new little one! The two words my dad beat into my head when our first was born were “be present.” It seems like an oversimplification (and seriously douche-tastic), but it is tremendous advice. Just be present.
Happy 4th of July!
Happy 4th!
All I can say is WOW at the Jaylen Waters video. I was hooked by the second or third play. This guy is a prototype Mike Stoops player…fundamentally sound tackler who wraps up the opposing players & drives through them. Always keeps his eye on the target, sheds multiple blockers and never stops hustling. I don’t care what his star ranking is, I hope we offer him ASAP.
I have not been much of a fan of turning safeties into linebackers. Good linebackers have a “mentality” about them that increases their effectiveness. Tom Wort would have been a beast in the new scheme and better able to use natural linebacker abilities. Though I know nothing of what transpired between he and Mike Stoops I can’t believe he would NOT have fit in to this new scheme.
With that said, Jaylen Waters looks good. With his current size I could see him adding the weight that would put him at DE.
And I realize that Wort would have been out of legibility after the 2013 season.
Jaylen waters is a tackling machine that would fit in well with that BringTheWood mentality. His video makes me think of zach latimer and lance Mitchell type backers
Happy 4th everyone. Just want to give a shputoit to all the hard work the tfb crew puts in, as well as myfellow veterans.
So, we are out for OT Andre James now??
As far as I can tell he said he would announce on the 10th and ou was one of the last 5 or 6. That’s from twitter earlier today
Yeah, but he hasn’t visited OU..
Ah good point.
curious…….are there any other oui members that haven’t been able to connect with oui in the last 24 hrs or so……..there’s no message of any kind as to problems……….just no connection……thxs
Rph, I just went over there and had no problem. You might clear your browser history and reboot. It worked for me a couple of times.
thxs for your response……….never run into this, apparently it’s just me and I needed to know……..thxs again……..
Hey guys, hope everyone had a great 4th.
What are you guys hearing about the incoming freshman & who do you expect to see significant PT immediately? Have heard Perine looks best at RB (which really surprised me that he looked better than Mixon, almost find that hard to believe ) can you confirm or deny?
Also, the player that I believe to be most important in this class (this year) is Quick. Any news on him & other players? Believe this deserves it’s on post, but would really appreciate any info
Quick question before tomorrow’s post, is Tennessee still recruiting Gibson? I’ve been hearing mixed things based on website.
