It’s almost Friday!
– First off some exciting Oklahoma HS preps news, we got word that a Purdue coach came down to see Millwood DLineman, Joshua Little (who we recently featured). We had heard Purdue loved Little on film and now it sounds like an offer may be coming from them in the next few weeks. While the news isn’t OU related, Oklahoma HS kids getting exposure and opportunity to play at other big programs is always exciting for us. We’ll keep you updated.
– I talked to 2015 Arizona based RB/LB Dedrick Young, and it sounds like Coach Kish recently came by. He didn’t an extend an offer, but Young said that Kish indicated an offer could happen in the near future. He is being recruited by OU as an LB, not as a RB. Young seems fine with playing LB at the next level. Coach Kish seems to be a little more hesitant than other members of the staff when it comes to pulling the trigger on an offer, which in this case might be warranted. However, as a side note, I still think Armwood LB Jordan Griffin and Plant CB Derrick Baity, both guys Kish recently visited, should already have offers.
– Got a little information on Ryan Newsome through the grapevine. Heard from a very credible source that while Newsome is high on Texas, the Sooners are still very much in it. At a certain point, it sounded like Texas led but from what I hear now that isn’t the case. It appears he likes OU, Texas and a school or two in the Pac-12. Newsome has speed for days and is incredible shifty. I still believe OU should offer Proche, but Newsome is a nightmare slot WR as well.
– 2015 DLineman out of Monroe, Louisiana, Courtney Wallace, recently got a visit from Oklahoma coach, Jerry Montgomery. Coach Montgomery stopped by Neville HS to see Courtney and 2016 DL offer, Rashard Lawrence. OU has not yet offered Wallace, but he does hold a number of offers, including one from Texas Tech. In talking to Wallace, it’s clear if OU did make an offer they’d jump to the top of his list. OU might not be ready to offer Wallace, but he’s exactly why you have to recruit the state of Louisiana. Because the DL depth is so good in that state, you can find kids like Wallace that are talented but not necessarily going to receive an offer from LSU. Which isn’t to say he would be incapable of playing for the Tigers, but at the end of the day football eyes differ and there are only so many spots to fill.
– Last week Oklahoma offered 2016 DB, Kristian Fulton out of Metairie, Louisiana. Sorry we missed that. But again, we are seeing a concerted effort by the Oklahoma staff to recruit the state of Louisiana and I, for one, think it’s a great move and long overdue.
– Also, in case you missed it, Oklahoma offered 2016 WR Dionte Mullins. Mullins is actually the cousin of 2014 DB Cornelius Floyd who, like Mullins, plays for Gulliver Prep. Floyd ended up signing with Arkansas and in talking to Mullins, it sounds like he’d like an Arkansas offer as well.
– Another 2016 prospect you’re going to want to REALLY keep your eye on is Dlineman Garrett Rand out of Arizona. Rand already has offers from both Arizona and Arizona St. Apparently Coach Kish went by to see him recently. An offer has not been extended, but it sounds like Rand and Kish have been talking a lot lately. And Rand plans on visiting this summer in hopes of picking up an OU offer. The good news is Rand’s father is originally from Oklahoma and it sounds like the family are OU fans. Rand is very excited about the possibility of picking up an offer from the Sooners and in chatting with him, he feels like one of those players that OU could really land due his ties to the state.
– UPDATE (11:09 am): As most of you saw, coach Jerry Montgomery tweeted out that he is heading to Hawaii. All indications are that he is going to visit Fehoko. From what we gather Fehoko has cut his ties with all coaching staffs except for Oklahoma’s. As we’ve said many times, Fehoko’s relationship with coach Montgomery is very real!
– UPDATE (11:15 am): Just spoke to DL Neville Gallimore’s coach and apparently coach Montgomery stopped by to see Neville earlier this week (Tuesday). And the visit went great! If coach Montgomery can bring in Gallimore and somehow flip Fehoko, OU would be looking at an amazing odd front DE duo!
– BIG UPDATE (1:12 pm): PJ Mbanasor just let us know that he plans on making a return trip Oklahoma. But this time he will be bringing his parents. You’ll recall that he visited Norman for the jr. day in March without his parents. This would seem to be a positive sign.
– UPDATE (1:42 pm): Well we were just talking about how hesitant Oklahoma seems to be right now at pulling the trigger on LB offers and it might have just bitten us in the rear. Back in March we mentioned an LB that we really like named Riley Garner who had visited OU but OU did not offer (you can read about it here). He just let me know that he has now picked up a Texas A&M offer to add to his list of schools including Rice, Colorado, Utah, Fresno State, North Texas and Texas State. Really believe he would have been a nice ILB for us and a kid who’d bring the academic numbers up at OU…very intelligent kid.
– UPDATE (4:43 pm): Just chatted with a friend who coaches down at American Heritage and he said that coach Josh Heupel was down in Miami yesterday to visit Gibson.

Stay on him, Monty!!
exactly.
Somehow I don’t think heading to Hawaii is much of a downer for him 😀
Are Monty and OU still after Canton Kaumatule, the DE offer out in Honolulu? Haven’t heard anything on him in quite some time.
What are you guys’ feelings on Ofodile? He said “no more interviews” last month and that he would announce the end of May. His last interview seemed very pro-OU, and after finally seeing his full hudl film, I’m REALLY hoping he’s coming here. What say you?
I hope his decision comes soon that way if he chooses some other school then ou can finally move on and offer dahu. I think the 2 are very similar and I actually like dahu more mostly because he’s now an oklahoma HS kid.
I graduated from OU, but I’m not from Oklahoma. So, I really do not understand the obsession with OK HS kids playing at OU. All things being equal, I want the best guy regardless of where he’s from. I know Dahu is good, but if he’s not next on the offer list after Ofodile, I’m fine with that.
Just the way oklahoma is small town mentality. I agree with what you say as far as getting the best but ou was good when they had a lot of middle of the pack players (early 2000s) but they had a winning attitude. If you go too national you get kids like stills (who I like) but does not give off the winning type of attitude. Although I’m judging from about 5 minutes of film I like what dahu offers more so than ofodile. I can’t tell from the film on ofodile that he has top tier speed or the ability to run smooth routes he’s a great athlete but you can’t out athlete teams in conference play. Dahu looks like he has an ability to create separation while running more than go routes and bubble screens. He looks a lot like Malcolm Kelly to me.
IMO, it’s down to OU & Mizzou. Probably 50-50, could truly go either way.
Do you get the feeling something big may be coming down the pipe soon at mizzou as far as sanctions. It’s strange that their basketball coach would up and leave for Tulsa. And I know the DGB issue with the football team.
Not really. I think the b-ball coach saw the writing on the wall and got out while he could. They just had a horrible year and aren’t expected to be good next year either. So if someone wanted to give him a job now, why not take it rather than stay, get fired, and have your job stock be even lower?
As w/ football, I think the DGB was somewhat of an isolated issue. And obviously an incredibly depressing waste of talent.
I saw some mock draft that had him still going top 10 next year. It may have been the one posted the other day with striker gojng 31st.
Oh, I’m sure. The NFL will always make exceptions for that kind of talent.
Reminded me of Tommy Tubberville’s sudden love affair with a non “Big 5” school.
The kid is obsessed with Millard (he tweeted out a pic of Millard earlier saying that SF is his new favoriate NFL team), so I’m leaning towards OU.
They’re from the same h.s. and Millard’s dad is the head coach
No clue on my end. I’ve never had contact with Odofile.
Do you think that Kish believes that if he offers a kid they are going to take it right away, and Kish is not wanting a commit right away in case he finds someone better?? his slow playing this kids that say they would love an OU offer can really come back and bite him. OU does not need the best in H.S. we need good enough to make them the best in college.
Good question but from everything I gather…it’s just the way he is. Neither of the kids mentioned above would commit on the spot and it’s hard to imagine that he wouldn’t know that. Armwood coach is friendly to OU and he’d certainly let coach Kish know where he would stand.
I really don’t have a problem with that, either. We may lose some kids that expect an offer “right now, damnit!”, but I really appreciate the evaluation OUr coaches put into these kids.
I’ll take a top ten or twenty recruiting class that’s underrated, over a class filled with “5 stars” that ends in disappointment.
Always look forward to the Open Post! Thanks Jordan!
Out of curiosity, what changes have you seen in regards to recruiting from compared to this year from that last couple of years. How long does it take to get a coach to really get implanted and known in an area, it’s not immediate I imagine. Also, I see give a lot of updates on Kish and Monty, but who or what area is Bedenbaugh concentrating on? Any updates on the Recruiting Coordinator position? Thanks, I know I got some questions. Once again, well done!
It’s still going to take the newer additions to the staff some time to get entrenched in their respective recruiting areas. But obviously Montgomery is an absolutely tireless worker. Which is not to knock any of the other guys, but dude is just relentless.
One of the biggest changes is offers going out early. I mean they have several 2016 offers out already and even some in 2017. They never used to offer kids that early. There is obviously going to be some risk w/ that, but if you’re confident in your eval then why wait?
I think K could speak better to Bedenbaugh, but I believe for the most part he’s focused on the central part of the country (Texas up thru Ohio). But he’ll hit the coasts and JUCOs as needed.
Bedenbaugh is one of the hardest working coaches on the staff. He pulled off some good players last year but has had a bit of a rough time early on with the loss of Wariboko. That was something outside his control. And there is no word on who will replace the director of player personnel but whoever it is will be better than the last guy IMO. They’ve got a guy they are interested in but he’s from a big time program so it isn’t certain they’ll be able to pull him.
I too think Bedenbaugh is one of our best coaches and recruiters just haven’t heard as much in regards to his visits to different recruits. Well OU is one of the biggest and most profitable programs in the country and they will find a excellent replacement for a personnel director, but what are the duties of that position?
On fehoko, cut all ties besides OU and tech right?
yeah
I almost really got my hopes up, I thought tech might have slipped up.
We’ve already lost Fehoko if Tech is still in the game. Have you seen the brontosaurus sized woman in Lubbock? They sell him on making an OL for the entire Dallas Cowboys if he marries one of the whales.
I know it’s light yrs ’til nsd, but things don’t look encouraging at this time for the ‘big stars’ mont is chasing………….does tfb have any informed opinions on the next 3/4 players mont might be strong on that have more interest in ou a/o a better chance of signing………btw, mont certainly can’t be faulted for lack of effort………it just seems to be that continuing mystery of why it’s so difficult for ou to attract and land o/d linemen…….thxs
I love how people think y’all steal info from other sites. It’s hard for people to think that when you’re the first ones reporting it! TFB is the best!!!
Especially when these guys are actually talking to the kids, the coaches and the parents. Kind of hard to plagiarize that.
Thanks for the support Brian. I think by now we’ve reported too many things before other sites (including the pay sites) for anyone to take the claim that we steal information seriously.
Yep. Once or twice and some could be skeptical. When it’s constant, it’s pretty obvious TFB are doing their own legwork.
All I know is this: since I found out about this site (from a poster on the Scout board), I no longer bother to visit any other site. There is no need!
It’s the height of irony for a certain pay site out there in cyberspace to accuse anyone of “stealing”………………………
…..boom!!
Good to hear they are working hard. I would rather they eval a bunch of kids rather than offering the first ones that smile back. The good thing about our coaches is we don’t have to get the no. 1 rated guy every time to make a good football player. This staff is all about building a team and I believe when the signatures are in, we will look pretty good.
I really love, while they are attacking the trail nationally, they are really honing in on the talent rich areas. Sounds like they’re attracting a lot of interest, too, and it’s not just the kids blowing smoke.
Really, really happy they’re hitting Louisiana hard for defensive players.
Agree. We’ve got build in-roads into LA, MS and even Arkansas. We need to get stronger in Texas. And I’d also like to see us his Kansas and Colorado more. People forget that western Miss. and Northern LA (Shreveport) aren’t THAT far from Norman. North Little Rock is loaded with athletes right now that almost nobody knows about. If we mine the south central (OK, LA, MS, and TX) and lower plains areas (KS, CO) really well…we can get most of our kids from around here.
Right on. It seems Stoops was pretty successful in Louisiana in the early-mid 2000s, and it slowed quite a bit. My guess was because of the entrance of LSU as a national power, and the SECs success in general.
Glad to see OU isn’t balking, and is continuing to hit it. I also love they go after guys that haven’t been heavily evaluated. I’ll give it to Stoops. He has a gift of getting real diamonds in the rough.
Landing Mbanasor would be a great get. You’ve probably mentioned it several times before but who is our biggest opposition in regards to getting his commitment?
Ohio State will be the toughest. Coach Urban Meyer is personally recruiting PJ.
When will this trip occur…during the season or this summer
That is huge about Mbanasor! Pretty sure we know what it means…He’s been saying a commitment could be coming pretty soon.
Mbanasor will bring his parents to OU, sneak over to Stillwater and commit to the Cowboys. I mean, it could happen. Right?
Lol. No he’s no longer interested in OSU.
Blasphemy !!!!!!!
Who else is in on Neville Gallimore? Do you see his recruiting blowing up more or you think he’s nearing a commitment
He’s got a lot of offers…ND, Maryland, UCLA, TCU, Miss. State, etc.
A serious but dumb question in one posting. Do all these coaches fly via commercial or private jets? Also who arranges all these trips? Maybe OU needs to order a helicopter to use for the nearby recruits-no wait that’s already been done in Texas.
I thought I heard somewhere that ou spent the third most in recruiting last year. Can’t remember where I saw this but I’m sure it’s probably true since all of ou’s spending is on the books.
Stoops might get some private jet time (though I assume he saves that for personal), but the assistants are flying commercial.

Well looks like Stanford didn’t get the memo that OU is the only other school allowed to recruit him! lol
Any news on the Bama controversy from guys closer to the NCAA about the program allegedly buying a car for RB Derrick Henry?
Also glad to hear OU is still working on Gibson, although I hear our chances aren’t great.
IMO I don’t think they will find enough to do anything.
