The Path to Norman

Seibert left Illinois high school as a highly ranked kicker and chose the Sooners.

Career So Far

Seibert has been kicking at OU for what seems like a very long time – the entire Baker Mayfield era in fact. He has been very successful overall, handling kickoffs, extra points, field goals, and punts. That’s a lot for one player to handle, but Siebert has been up to the challenge more often than not. He has been particularly successful on extra points; missing only 4 out of 227 seems pretty good.

Highlights

I mean… I have to include this. Seibert was the conductor on the Connor McGinnis hype train that led to McGinnis winning the Mortell Holder of the Year award.

Record Book

As a three year starter in a Lincoln Riley offense, Austin has kicked quite a few extra points. In fact, Seibert already has his place in the OU record book. His 223 extra points made and his 227 extra points attempted are both the most in Sooner history, passing Michael Hunnicutt.

For the upcoming season, he can pass records on a national scale. The all time record for extra points made is 274. If Seibert keeps up his current pace, which seems likely in a Riley offense, he’ll finish his career with 297. Additionally, the all time record for extra points attempted is 278; at his clip, he’ll end with 302.

Another record Seibert can shoot for is scoring. The OU record for points by a kicker is held by Hunnicutt at 444. Austin stands at 361. If he continues at that rate, he’ll finish with 481. Nationally, the record for points by a kicker is 492; he’ll have to kick a few extra field goals or extra points to get that one, but it’s certainly within reach.

2018 Season

Siebert has been very successful handling most of the kicking responsibilities for the Sooners and that won’t change in 2018. Although it’s certainly possible that the staff chooses to lighten his load by handing off one of the jobs, possibly punts or kickoffs, to another player, Austin will continue to handle much of the kicking.
