100 Days to Football Time in Oklahoma: #10 Pat Fields

The Path to Norman

Pat Fields, the artist formerly known as Patrick, became a hot commodity his junior year of high school. The talented defensive back picked up several offers and began to be recognized as one of the state of Oklahoma’s best high school players. After almost another year, but still a year before his signing day, Fields let it be known where he wanted to play.

Fields became an extremely vocal leader of the 2018 class, deserving credit for helping the OU coaching staff land several talented prospects.

Career so Far

Fields came in his freshman year and played in six games, becoming a regular towards the tail end of the season.

Highlights

2019 Season

The 2019 safety battle has been an interesting one, with veterans and young guys battling for playing time. Most recently, Fields and Delarrin Turner-Yell have been running as the starters at free safety and strong safety, respectively, with Robert Barnes, Justin Broiles, and Jamal Morris backing them. Defensive Coordinator Alex Grinch said last week that Fields and DTY are the two safeties he has confidence in right now, showing huge support for the two. If Pat can hang on to the starting job through tough competition, he’ll be a starter in a secondary looking to make a new name for themselves in 2019.
