FOOTBALL

Here’s How We Got To DeMarco Murray Being The Best Running Back In The NFL’ (Sports Fan Journal)

ICYMI, resolution on Baker Mayfield. Jake Trotter was the first to refute the initial (and now incorrect) report that the NCAA had cleared Mayfield.

Outstanding use of the word ‘scoundrel’ here from Mayfield’s father. (NewsOK)

Yeah, um, no.

Pretty solid point here.

Forgot to include this yesterday. The Big 12 seriously has nothing better to do than send Bill Snyder memos on what windbreakers he should be wearing? (USA Today)

Texas scheduled a non-con series with a Florida school (USF), which is something I’d really like to see OU do. (ESPN)

‘SMU “intrigued” by the idea of hiring Mack Brown’ (Fox Sports)

Dropping a press release at 1 a.m. is rarely ever a good thing. What a complete cluster f going on in Ann Arbor. (Detroit Free Press)

The Ohio St. strength coach body-slamming gets the Jim Ross treatment.

A t-shirt Gatling gun? Um, wow.

Notre Dame/Syracuse fan brawl…wait for the 0:37 mark (right’ish side of your screen) and dude pop up with the straight right.

RECRUITING

It’s open season on Michigan commits!

Probably not a great sign for a guy most believe will be hard to pull away from the left coast.

BASKETBALL

OU Men’s Basketball: Take Notice (SSTV)

Not sure the Texas fanbase cares enough about basketball to be aware of this, but when/if they are made aware I can’t imagine this going over well. (AAS)

Any word on the status of Derrick Woods? He looked like he got his bell rung early in the Tennessee game and he is still listed on the depth chart but haven’t seen him on the field.

    • Jordan Esco says:

      Still haven’t heard anything

      • blaster1371 says:

According to the participation report he didn’t even play special teams in the WVA game. I would think of all the talk of the need of another receiver option needing to rise and Woods being talked about in the off season that someone at the press conference would have asked about him when mentioning injured players.

  • lovethemsooners says:

“Bob Stoops had real interest in Ohio State, Notre Dame gigs. Sooners
rolling, but If Baylor beats Oklahoma, does Stoops listen to Michigan?”

    In a word…..No!

    • blaster1371 says:

Michigan is a has been of the tenth degree. They have been overrated for the last twenty years. The only reason those jobs are mentioned in connection to stoops is geographic location to his home state of Ohio. Stoops is no dummy, he mentions the word interest and he gets a million dollar raise from a panicked OU Board of Regents. Michigan will hire a Charlie Weiss type and continue it’s swirling around the toilet bowl.

      • DCinAZ says:

Correct. And why do people assume Bob has some innate desire to return to Ohio some day?

        • Jordan Esco says:

Iowa or Florida, only college jobs I could see him leaving OU for

          • blaster1371 says:

I can’t even see Iowa . Flor-ida? Possibly. Musschumo is likely gone if he is .500 this season. I still think Stoops is done with coaching in eight years (won’t he be 60 then?) and don’t understand why he would want a project program.

          • red clay says:

I can see Bob becoming OU AD when he’s ready to let go of the HC gig. But that would require Joe C. being ready to retire, and desire on Bob’s part to master the arcana of NCAA rule books and the Machiavellian NCAA politics, so on second thought maybe Bob will just set up some football camps and have fun coaching star talent with out the pressure to win NT’s. Bob’s got a smorgasbord of options. And he’s earned them.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

I’m betting he does a stint in the NFL before it’s all said and done.

          • red clay says:

Good thought. Bob would understand the differences between college and pro, he would do well.

          • leatherneck1061 says:

Timing here just seems all wrong. He is in the process of resurrecting the giant. He has the staff he wants and a real wealth of talent across the board. Right now he looks set to make a title run for at least the next 2 years, and regardless of what anyone might say, I think he wants to finally shatter the ceiling and draw even, if not surpass, Barry and Bud. Add to that the great working relationships he has with Boren and Castiglione, and I just don’t see him leaving for any job right now. Just don’t see the incentive.

          • Drew says:

Honestly, I see the biggest threat to Bob staying as a NC in 5-10 years. Bob has always seemed to me to be a guy who wants to go out on top and finish on a good note, and the Crystal football would be the way to do it.

          • Bill Duncan says:

You mean golden “Lombardi lookalike trophy”

          • red clay says:

How about “the beer tap looking thing-a-ma-jig”?

          • leatherneck1061 says:

I forgot to add, he also is about to become the beneficiary of a massive facilities renovation/upgrade which will help even further in the recruiting wars.

        • ToatsMcGoats says:

          Because it’s SOOO DAMN beautiful!

        • leatherneck1061 says:

Or even more amusing, why do they assume he wants to coach Ohio State’s top rival in a place that is just as cold as Ohio. Michigan fans really should stop deluding themselves.

  • DCinAZ says:

Why would Bob Stoops even consider an inferior dumpster fire gig like Michigan? People need to let this whole “Bob to (enter school name here)” business go. It’s been 15 years and no other program can beat what he’s getting at OU. He’s not going anywhere.

  • blaster1371 says:

In fairness of the Michigan coach…. How in the heck does he know what’s going on behind him on the bench? That’s on the medical staff not the coach.

    • Jordan Esco says:

He doesn’t get a pass. Unless he wasn’t watching his offense, he clearly could see the kid was hurt and/or get carried off the field. Simple communication could have prevented this and he’s just as guilty of failing to do so, IMO.

    • paganpink says:

I was wondering the same thing about Sanchez in the last game. He had a cameraman doing a close up on him cradling his arm/shoulder and the announcers were talking about whether he was hurt. But he was a long ways away from the coaches and they obviously aren’t watching T.V. so they don’t have access to some information (for awhile at least) that even fans at home would have.

    • Indy_sooner says:

Buck stops with the head coach. Regardless of the situation, it reflects poorly on the HC and further compounds the blowout issues. It’s not one where he can explain away

    • ND52 says:

It’s Hoke’s fault for not wearing a headset or for not have someone designated to tell him about player injuries.

FWIW, I think Hoke is in completely over his head at Michigan and really doesn’t have a clue.

  • blaster1371 says:

    SMU + Mack Brown? Perrrrfecccctttttt.

  • L'carpetron Dookmarriot says:

If OU were to re-schedule a non-conference team in Florida (we already did that with Miami), then I’d like to see them do that with UCF. UCF is no slouch and it would be good for UCF to get on national TV again.

    • Bill Duncan says:

I would go as far to say I want UCF in the Big 12. They have more students than most big12 schools and their program is better than the bottom half of the weak 12….

      • L'carpetron Dookmarriot says:

Indeed. I’m a UCF alum. They are the 2nd largest university in the US, in terms of enrollment. Their campus is new and nice; stadium, too. Unfortunately, no one is from Central Florida. There are lots of top recruits from schools in Central Florida (see Armwood, Dr. Phillips, Apopka, Plant)

  • Bob Browning says:

Love the Auburn T-shirt Gatling gun. We need one of those at Owen Field.

    • blaster1371 says:

I want one to hurl bricks at the dang cat that thinks my planter area is a litter box!

    • red clay says:

Perhaps Auburn envied our Ruf/Nek shotguns, so they decided to go semi-auto.

Imagine what the Cadets could do at West Point . . .

  • Indy_sooner says:

Stoops to Michigan? Ummm, No. HUGE Step down… in every sense of the word

    • Zack says:

Not only that but michigan has a history of not paying top dollar for coaches. If they want a les miles or someone in his league they will have to pay 4.5-5mil or more to get them.

      • Indy_sooner says:

I don’t think Les is going to Ann Arbor. They flew David Brandon all the way down after firing Rich Rod and the mad hatter wouldn’t budge. IMO, the “alum” thing is abit overrated especially when said coach is in an elite program to begin with.

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

I remember all of the Michigan fans talking trash on OU when Jerry Montgomery came here. They all said that OU was a step DOWN! Now they want our coach…hmm…

      • Indy_sooner says:

        Look how that worked out…lol
In all seriousness, I am genuinely concerned on losing Monty.. People already know he’s a good one. Maybe not this year, but I see the next guy at Michigan giving him serious consideration at DC

        • ToatsMcGoats says:

Yeah, I hear ya, but I think we’ve got him for at least another couple of years. I would also think that Bob would make it worth his while to stick around. If Mike is next in line for HC, I couldn’t help but think that he would be considered first in line for DC for the good guys.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

If hes not still toxic.. Mr. Mangino would look good in maze n blue, curb stomping Urban every year…

  • leatherneck1061 says:

Ok the Gatling gun is just sick. OU needs to get one right now. I will buy game tickets just for the chance of getting shot with an OU t-shirt.

    • Cory Reedy says:

Yes, for sure. I’ll buy the thing if they let me and a few other posters on this site load and shoot during games. Key is, we get to load it with whatever we want…doesn’t HAVE to be a t-shirt. Then, it’s like a cool (or not) surprise when you catch one! Who do we need to contact!? LOL

    • SoonerinLondon says:

OU has one. They’ve used it at each of the home games this year and it has failed each time. It fires a couple shirts, then just dribbles them out and the cheerleaders have to pick them up off the ground and throw them into the stands. Maybe they’ll get it sorted by KSU.

  • boomersooner says:

Personally, it feels like we just got done with Miami and we did just get done with FSU. Fla ain’t leaving the state and I wouldn’t schedule any “neutral” site games, unless its Jerry’s World and they probly wouldn’t do that cause they don’t leave the state. USF I just don’t see the point and UCF I don’t know if the credit for a win would offset the shame of defeat. That’s just my tired opinion on it

  • Exiled In Ohio says:

Roseboro decommits, per 247. Interesting timing.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

WOW, Austin Sebert is legit. I usually see clips of kickers during some non-game drills. But in game…and kicking like that. Not only his field goals, but what also stuck out was the kickoffs. OU is fortunate to get him. This guy is going to be big.

Also, the Thunder needs to get one of those T-shirt gatling guns!

    • hOUligan says:

Love that offer and it keeps looking more legit. Seibert and invited walk-on Horky showing ST coach Boulware hire are continuing commitments to getting better on STs. It is paying huge dividends with better kick coverage, kick returns, blocked kicks and OU has a great guy on deck when Moneycutt’s eligibility is gone and he’s collecting a paycheck on Sundays.

    • boomersooner says:

He’s a hell of a recruiter. If somebody can sell a ketchup popsicle(Kansas) to a woman in white gloves(the kids) its him. But they’ll spin sec somehow if he ends up doing well

  • Fear The Magic says:

Watching the vid of the ND/ Syracuse fight I can’t help but think that the Bama girl at the Sugar bowl could beat the crap out of all of them.

  • hOUligan says:

Always love seeing lame fans who run out onto the field being blasted, whether by the cops or some huge S&C coach. Great throw down.
OU has a pretty significant stretch; TCU, texass, KState, heart of the season. Think everyone is waiting for that showdown with Baylor on Nov. 8, to truly see what kind of team OU is. And I cannot believe I just wrote that. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!!

  • leatherneck1061 says:

One more thing about the Stoops to Michigan talk – just can’t seem to get off this wagon – Stoops is not a “Meechigan Man”. We all saw how the last non “Meechigan Man” coach (Rich Rodriguez) was treated by the powers that be there. The lack of support, etc. No way Bob wants to leave Norman where he has outstanding support, respect, admiration, etc. for a thankless job with an inferior team. Throw in the fact that the whole family will have to invest in a new polar climate wardrobe and engine block warmers for the Cadillac, and you have pretty much the best argument against leaving Norman I can think of.

  • soonermusic says:

“Bob had real interest in Ohio State, Notre Dame gigs…” See our previous discussion re Kate Uption…:-)

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

The idea that Stoops would leave OU for any other CFB Program is laughable.

  • Brad Warren says:

Why is the line so low? We are only favored by 5. Thoughts, insight.

    • Sooner Ray says:

It’s fairly simple. Vegas needs just as many people betting on the TCU side as the OU side, it’s how they make money and has nothing to do with how they feel about the outcome of the game.
