Sooners News Daily 9.26.14

Horrible, horrible football last night. Who else isn’t worried in the slightest about Ok. State & Texas Tech after that game? I’d love, love, love for OSU to try and run all those slow developing deep routes against this OU pass rush.

FOOTBALL

This weekend’s watch guide. (WWG)

I see no issue with this.

Outstanding news.

‘Is Berry Tramel the Thayer Evans of Oklahoma Journalism?’ (VTM)

This is pretty great. (GBH)

Seriously? ‘Does WVU still have a shot at Big 12 title?’ (WV Metro News)

Roll Tide. (Fox Sports)

RECRUITING

‘Oklahoma commitment Tyrell Jacobs plays key role in Rummel’s fast start’ (NOLA)

BASKETBALL

This is hilarious. Clippers owner and former Microsoft big wig is instituting a ‘no Apple product’ policy for the franchise. (Deadspin)

OTHER

Sweet crib. (U-T San Diego)

Nice.

Stay inside next time.

This looks horrible.

This, on the other hand, looks somewhat decent.

Your feel-good story for the day.

You’re gonna put Jessica Alba in your movie and dress her up like some kind of nerd? Bad idea jeans, bro.

LOL, the OSU/TT game looked like a high school varsity game. Shady O-line play. Throw it up and go get it. Bad special teams coverage. Sooooooo many dropped passes on both sides. Penalties galore. Etc, etc. OUr schedule is looking pretty nice right now. Funny thing is, if OSU keeps winning, they’ll be top 20 when we crush them.

    • 22dupree says:

That’s the hope. We rarely root for the Pokes to win, but when we do, it always benefits OU. I think the Pokes can win most of ’em – or at least enough to stay relevant in the polls until our December matchup. Hopefully they can; it’ll look much better for us to be playing a ranked team on the day other contenders are playing a conference title game.

I don’t know if the tacos win another game, maybe Kansas

    • BigJoeBrown says:

Crush your enemies. See them driven before you. Hear the lamentations of their women.

  • Sooner Ray says:

The tacos have lost their filling and the orange juice has gone stale. Bad football right there.

    • blaster1371 says:

What do you think about Webb pulling himself out with a sore non throwing shoulder? Watching him on the sidelines he looked ok. I think the dude wussed out.

Both teams had the most horrendous helmets. TTs pants looked like they had a paint stain on the thigh.

      • Sooner Ray says:

I don’t think tech will have a Qb by the end of the season. Neither of those teams could stand back there and look the field over against our defense. They both better change their game plans or they will get slaughtered.

      • paganpink says:

And it took me a while to figure out that that was Pistol Pete’s ugly mug on chOke-S-U’s helmets! Who in the he!! thought that that was a good idea?

      • paganpink says:

And dude can’t walk to the sideline without crumpling to the turf cause his shoulder hurt’s! Let’s hope he never has a kidney stone. He come’s out moments later all fired up and determined- striding over to emphatically challenge the coach to….not play!

      • Zack says:

It looked to me like kingsbury told Webb to sit out. I’m not sure what was said after the game.

      • ToatsMcGoats says:

I bet Klingsberry is pretty sorry for how he treated Mayfield…LOLOLOLOL!!!!!!

      • boomersooner says:

Oof. Did you see Ariz st’s? Awful awful helmets…looked liked one of those bowling balls you use on fri nights

        • Prof27 says:

Agreed 1000%. Couldn’t stand looking that the uniforms in the OSU/TT game, and then I saw ASU’s. Holy hell. Sparky must be dying of embarrassment.

          • boomersooner says:

yes. it looked like someone had puked IN a helmet and someone else looked in the helmet and said, “we should take this color scheme and put it on the OUTSIDE of a helmet”

    • PLAW0720 says:

Coach bra’ remind you of any former OU coach? Great recruiter, solid position coach, but totally ill equipped and unprepared at this point for a HC job. Yep, it’s a coach Blake makeover

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

Looks like the #wreckedthemselves…they clearly should have checked themselves first…

  • paganpink says:

I actually think Tramel was right about Kingsbury. There was nothing of substance in Tech’s play. Utter lack of discipline with constant and ridiculous penalties coupled with weird play calling and sometimes bizarre passing where no one is anywhere near the ball, the line doesn’t know the snap count, and they sometimes just float the ball up in the air and just hope one of their guys is the one who ends up with it. Along with a coach trying to be a player and doing weird boogie dances to post on YouTube. But so much for OSU’s problems. heh heh.

    • SamSooner says:

I think the point of the article is that as a journalist, Tramel, should not write an article where his reporting isn’t based on research, facts and reliable sources. He, Tramel, should always quote multiple sources, especially those on the opposite side of an issue. Tramel’s articles, to me, are more editorials than anything. Editorials allow a reporter to interject their opinion which don’t have to be substantiated with facts: ranting is what it is, so to speak. My major is journalism. Some of the stuff Tramel writes would never fly. Tramel knows what he knows and thinks that’s enough. In my opinion, this is the culture at the Oklahoman: they are lazy with their reporting and they hold grudges.

      • SamSooner says:

Take a look at this article by Mel Bracht. Where is the reporting? There are 19 graphs. Count how many of those graphs are paraphrasing and general observations that have nothing to do with heading. http://newsok.com/espn-crew-impressed-with-daxx-garman/article/5345796

      • Eric Hoffpauir says:

I didn’t even realize that Tramel was a reporter, any more than say, George Will is a reporter. They might have some privileged access and have cultivated some sources over the years, but that doesn’t make them reporters.

        • ND52 says:

If you work at a newspaper that has chosen Jenni Carlson—–Jenni Carlson—–as their designated female reporter, well………………. I don’t know what to tell ya.

      • paganpink says:

Well, Sam, he is a columnist. That isn’t like a news reporter, as you must well know. He is essentially an opinion writer in almost every sense of the word. Many words of which I disagree with. But they pay him to not just cover facts but to bring interest and perspective to the game. In last nights game Kliff Kingsbury was every bit the empty suit that he portrayed him to be.

  • Zack says:

I hope Colvin sits all year he should wait until next season when he will have 18+ months to have rehab’d.

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

The only issue I have w/what Jammal Brown tweeted is the misspelling of “draft”…I would never say it to his face, though…

  • SoonerfanTU says:

While I agree both teams looked pretty bad, both of them have quite a bit of time to improve before they play OU. Especially osu. That game is what, nearly 10 weeks away? I think we should handle both pretty easily, just pointing out both will improve (as will OU) before we play them.

    • rphokc says:

I only watch the pukes if they’re losing…….can’t stand them……..so, I didn’t watch this game…………what are these tt guys reacting to

      • ToatsMcGoats says:

The guy that replaced Webb was scrambling around like a chicken with it’s head cut off and threw a ridiculous pick. It was awesome.

  • Travis Hill says:

Just read that WV article. Where did they get that quote from Sanchez? Seems like they conveniently left out the fact that he couldn’t lift his arm half the game. Even so, he’s really not fast enough to keep up with the elite wide receivers.

  • Ed Cotter says:

I thought it was interesting that against Arky Tech couldn’t stop the run, but then last night they couldn’t stop the deep ball. Wow, two guys covering deep and the WR still caught the ball, among the other big plays that OSU had last night. The thing I took away from last night is that Tech is going to struggle this year and that OSU has some pretty good receivers. And the announcers were falling all over themselves about the Webb kid, and he gets hurt. Do we know the extent of his shoulder injury?

  • Ed Cotter says:

Nila signing at Children’s Hospital. Very cool. Anyone know who is playing the uke in the video? Not sure if he is a football player, or just a friend of Nila’s.

  • steveinok says:

Regardless of whether the article had any substance, ironically, comparing Tramel to Thayer Evans was hilarious. But not as hilarious as Berry calling Kingsbury Anna Kournikova. That nickname will stand forever.

  • j l says:

since 2000, no team has lost to OU and gone on to win the big 12. Does WVU have a shot? odds say no.

Whole lot of butt hurt in this article.

The Wedding Ringer looks like it could actually be funny.
