FOOTBALL

ICYMI: OU & Bob Stoops confirmed yesterday what TFB & Drake told you Monday, that OU will debut their #BringTheWood alternate road jersey this Saturday.

I’m not sure why you (or anyone, really) would care about this Missouri senator ripping OU/Bob Stoops for taking in DGB, but pretty much every OU beat writer freaked out about it on Twitter yesterday. So if you haven’t already and care to read it, here you go. (USA Today)

David Ash has made the right decision (at least in my opinion) and is giving up the game of football. (DMN)

“OSU tailgates so much better than OU because it’s like men against girls.” That’s funny because that is exactly how OU fans describe Bedlam. (NewsOK)

This is fantastic. Take that litterbugs! Also this taking place in Russia seems like it’s an incredibly good way to get yourself killed. But if the Internet & YouTube has taught us anything, that is a pretty low bar when it comes to Russian roadways.

That’s what you get, jacka$$.

Jordan do you think there’s a chance ou would take rankin and Barnett? Or if they took 7 linemen would the 7th likely be wariboko?

    • Jordan Esco says:

I wouldn’t have before this past weekend, but if you can believe what you hear that appears to be the case.

      • Zack says:

It does seem like a bit much but it sounds like rankin wants to choose ou but that would hit our 6 total and leave two 4* instate guys without a spot.

        • Jordan Esco says:

We’ll see. Texas just offered and I believe that was a big one for him. I’m almost more surprised to hear the talk of the coaches wanting Danley at guard instead of tackle.

        • Gary Robbins says:

Next year (2015) OU would have J. St-John, D. Farniok, N. Kasitati, T. Darlington, C. Daimler, S. Grant, J. Paul, J. Alvarez, A. Dalton, J. Frison, O. Brown, B. Evans, D. Samia, J. Danley, C. Ford, D. Hearne, plus Barnett (hopefully). That’s 17 plus some others on the roster (offensive lineman). Does OU have 5 starters among that group? Where does OU stop?

    • roygbell says:

I don’t like the overloading at any position. OU needs OL that is for sure, but when you take seven one year you really screw up the depth chart. You create a feast or famine situation by doing this. OU needs to take five of these guys this year and five the next year. We lose six Seniors this year and we will have four Seniors next year. I just think it is much better to spread these guys over the next two recruiting classes.

Sure you can RS some of these kids, but isn’t it better to spread them out some? I think so.

      • Zack says:

I agree I don’t like overloading either especially since were trying to hit 6 at oline and were leaving a very talented looking kid without an offer and I’m actually talking about dahu. With the trouble we seem to have with a big wr performing why can’t they take a different one. To be honest I would rather take 5 HS seniors this year and no jucos. Especially with the good things being said about the 2 freshman tackles.

        • Boom says:

To me it’s about attrition. You bring in good talent and the talent that is there either gets better or leaves.

  • blaster1371 says:

The roll tide mobile is a vw!!???? What self respecting redneck would advertise their Bama fandom on a vw? This Bama fan goes all this way to show they are “cultured” and civilized. By buying a vw. In a moment of relapse they get this wild idea to do….. This abomination.

I may be getting his last name wrong but do any of y’all remember Cecil Samera? He was that older gentleman who had everything OU, even an OU mobile and OU dental work. He would park his OU mobile on the north side of the stadium on game day and evey so often blare out “go OU” on a bullhorn. This was during the ’70s and ’80s.

    • Brad Warren says:

Yes! Big Red Cecil Samara. Had that little truck and sleeper. Cool man.

    • paganpink says:

They make Mercedes, Honda’s and Hyundai’s in Alabama but the Volkswagen plant is in Chattanooga! I remember Cecil well. He lived near 26th or 27th and May, only a block or so from Northwest Classen. I used to talk to him quite a bit on my way to school and he was a super nice guy.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Jordan, how did you get that sheep video? I thought oSu practices were closed to the public.

  • JrsySooner says:

Ahh Cecil and the big red rocket 1923 Ford model T coolest car I ever saw when I was a kid and muscle cars were all the rage then. Sadly he lost a valuable collection of OU memorabilia in a fire but it drove him to become OU’s #1 fanatic

He deserves a statue all his own and Coach has driven his car if I am not mistaken.. read about his life, its freaking incredible he lived as long as he did and was able to accomplish so much with a 3rd grade education.

He was the first in Oklahoma to get the new personalized plates, BIG RED in 1968

I got Goose bumps when I met him, and when he smiled at me taking his picture with his OU glasses I noticed he had OU on his teeth

    Cecil coined the word Fanatic

His car is owned by his daughter, is at every home game (why the hell you don’t see it on TV or gameday is beyond me) and maintained by the RUF NEKS hand selected called “Cecil Keepers” its been to home games for 50 years and has been to 5 orange bowls

  • STL Sooner says:

Claire McCaskill….she has nothing more important to do than keep up with Bob Stoops and the Sooners. Good thing her state or country doesn’t have anything important going on that a senator should be more involved in.

  • Jordan Esco says:

I just wanted to offer some clarification on the Evans/Anderson deal from above. Hopefully you’ll find it helpful.

    https://thefootballbrainiacs.com/ou-oklahoma-sooners-football-recruiting-a-quick-clarification-on-the-bobby-evans-rodney-anderson-signing

  • EasTex says:

Pleased to see Evans and Anderson have signed on. Really pleased to see Anderson is wearing the new Super Flex helmet to reduce the risk of scrambled brains.

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

What does McCaskill think should happen with these kids? Should they just be shut out for making mistakes? I honestly don’t think these people would feel the same way if it were their kids in this same situation. They should thank God for someone like Bob Stoops, who doesn’t give up on kids, and offers them a chance to make something out of themselves.

    • EasTex says:

      “What does McCaskill think…”
      That is the question.
      /just sayin’

    • boomersooner says:

If he worked at a YMCA or something they’d give him a key to the city but there’s always gotta be glass houses that think they’re better than everyone else and feel the need to let the world know their opinion. You are entitled to your opinion but like the great col jessup said “I don’t give a damn what you think you’re entitled to.”

    • JJsooner1 says:

The first thing wrong with her comments…..she’s a politician. nothing else needs to be said……….

  • EasTex says:

I really don’t care what uniform the Sooners wear, as long as they win.
However, I do have a problem with the “Red” and not Crimson pants. It doesn’t match and looks more like Nebraska.

  • JJsooner1 says:

I’ve been told by several poke fans we should get ready to lose on Saturday. Are they for real?? I think OU wins and covers. is that a bad prediction?

    • EasTex says:

If we were playing Cupcake U. the poke fans would still expect us to lose.

    • Sooner_Ace says:

Bad no, however by cover the last time i looked the line was down to 7 points. That seems about right, I am interested to see how O holds up on the road.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

And how the D holds up, on the road, in a game where the O might struggle some, against a good offense.

      • JJsooner1 says:

I would guess that the spread has gone down because of Ford’s injury.

        • Zack says:

That and everyone saying osu and wvu are world beaters when they lost games (they should have won) but I don’t think that fsu and bama performance is an indication of how good they were last year or how good they will be this year. I think both wvu and osu got 6 months to prep for a game they were told they would lose and you saw a closer game because of that motivation. When osu loses a game to tech or isu then we will know what they’re about.

    • Zack says:

I don’t think it’s a bad prediction I think this is the game we find out what this ou team is made of. We know the defense has been good but we will see if they take it to another level since people everywhere expect wvu to move the ball easily. Also I don’t think it’s shocking what dana said about ou’s defense being better than Alabama, it is better suited to play this style of football. Also we will find out whether heupel has been holding back or if the offense just isn’t there yet as far as consistency.
I’m thinking ou comes out and shows everyone this team is for real but an early turnover can make things very interesting so I’m not predicting a blow out even though I think it’s likely ou wins by 14+

      • JJsooner1 says:

I think you’re spot on Zack. Most of what we’ve seen is vanilla by most comments and what has transpired on the field. I’d like Ross in the slot with Flowers and Perine behind Trevor. I think we’ll see that at some point. Coach has shown just enough to win. IMO.

  • Josh says:

For anyone to rip Bob Stoops or The University of Oklahoma for anything that they have done with players recently is so far beyond moronic its laughable! With the headlines these days, the ONLY entity I see that has handled EVERYTHING correctly is OU. I’ll admit I was pissed at Coach Stoops and Mr. Boren for suspending Frank and for the decision on Joe. But I WAS WRONG. They absolutely did the right thing and they did it because it was the right thing. They didn’t wait for sponsors to pull out and public sentiment to turn against them like the Minnesota Vikings… They did not wait for a video to emerge and back peddle faster than a 5 Star DB like the NFL… Coach Stoops and Mr. Boren are high quality men that made decisions based on what they felt was right, and they got it right in both cases. I am proud of the University and Administration and the Coaching staff. They should be praised and pointed to as examples as to how the NFL, The Commish, the owners, the organizations, anyone should act and LEAD in these situations.

    • JJsooner1 says:

Completely agree but how did Frank Shannon pass a polygraph with his attorney?

      • Jed says:

polygraphs are weird. You can spoof them pretty easily. (anything that causes a bit of pain spikes the needle nicely). Very operator dependent. it’s nice he took the test, but not dispositive.
What should have been is that the DA declined to prosecute and the aggrieved party declined to sue.
Once those two events were settled, further action by a shadowy Title IX board of inquiry very much resembles double jeopardy and ‘Star Chamber’ ‘justice’.

        • JJsooner1 says:

I agree, the Title IX thing is not the same as a civil suit and the burden of proof should be the same as a court of law. Heck they are going to punish someone!! Why lower the burden of proof??

          • Jed says:

In my opinion, once you are talking about a physical assault of any kind, you should be out of Title IX or any other admin law area. Crime of that nature is the province of the police. Period.
Title IX should be left for things such as patterns of discrimination, institutional harassment and the like. Using it to provide an extra bite at the apple to those who feel the police and courts did not do their job correctly is a miscarriage of justice.

          • ND52 says:

Title IX is unconstitutional @JJsooner1:disqus .

      • SoonerPhins says:

Polygraphs are also not used as evidence in the Court system because they can be easily manipulated.

    • Zack says:

I agree the integrity of the ou staff is above anyone else IMO which is why I think stoops is a better coach than anyone in the nation, he’s done it the right way. I don’t want to get into what was right/wrong in each issue but Shannon’s punishment was a bit much but if that’s what they felt they needed to do in order to keep the dept of education out of Norman and to send a message they won’t put up with the nonsense, then I’m ok with it.

      • Josh says:

Yes the Frank Shannon punishment was very harsh and I feel for him for this year. I just look at FSU and what they have opened themselves up to w/ Winston and his continued moronic behavior while they have done nothing! They allowed him to play, won the Natty, and now they are looking into it to try to stay out of hot water over Title IX… FSU should be taking far more heat than they are right now and I believe they will end up paying heavily for how they have botched this situation.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Didn’t see this mentioned elsewhere, but I guess DaMarkus Lodge (WR) decommitted from aTm today, and is supposedly down to OU and Baylor?

    • SoonerPhins says:

I thought he Xed the Sooners out pretty early on. Interesting to see where he goes. I also wonder what made him Decommit from SwAg&M

      • SoonerfanTU says:

I hadn’t heard his name lately either. A Baylor guy in my office told me he decommitted. Something about not being sure how he’d fit in to aTm’s offense. Listed OU, Baylor, and TCU, with OU and Baylor suppose to be the favs.

  • Bill Duncan says:

@jordanesco:disqus I just saw that Demarkus Lodge just de-committed and it has OU down as highly considered. Do you think they’ll open up another slot? Last I heard it was Newsome or none.

    • Jordan Esco says:

Lodge wouldn’t be a slot guy, IMO. He’s more of an outside guy and I think if Norvell feels like he really has a legit shot w/ the kid then he’ll definitely make room (again, IMO). But I’m just not sure how legit a shot they have. I know what’s being reported, but I’m not really a fan of the person reporting it.

I’ve been talking w/ K about it since the news broke and I know he’s been working his sources to try and find out more. I’m sure he’ll post what he’s able to find in the coming days.

  • OU ON MY MIND says:

I just want to get through the WVU game with no injuries. We are a great team, but cannot keep having the injuries that we are piling up every game.

    • Steven White says:

So far this year we are really healthy. I know we lost Ford for a couple weeks and then we have a couple other guys out, but this year compared to the last few has been very healthy.

      • OU ON MY MIND says:

Oh yeah, compared to the last few seasons we are good, but we seem to be piling it up early this year. Hopefully this isn’t a trend. I really hated to lose Walker so early, this time is crucial for his development to be dominant when Phillips is gone. He should be back sometime around Texas game I hope.

  • JJsooner1 says:

Just a thought……..I really think Coach Mike has been pointing to this game for 2 years. He got the guys he wanted for his system and they’re playing well. This OU team will be the best team WVU will face all year. WVU is a good team but not on the same level and OU’s defense will take this game over early. The offense will be fine. You just can’t stop a two-headed monster. Special teams will play a huge roll as well. Thoughts??

  • jotay21 says:

With TTU firing their DC, is there any chance we can get back in on Fehoko?

    • EasTex says:

Did you see Fehoko’s performance in The Opening?
Based on what I saw he will be a perfect fit at Taco Tech.

      • j l says:

I thought people raved about his performance at the opening? I saw several outlets saying he should get a 5th star, and was one of the best DT’s there.

        • EasTex says:

I never heard anyone rave about him. I watched him and he got beat on every play, and badly on several of them. He was flailing away and never got near the QB.

          • j l says:

strange, I heard almost the exact opposite. Weird how 2 people can watch the same thing and come away with vastly different opinions.

we can hope for our sake, hes the guy you saw haha.

          • EasTex says:

I was very surprised with what I saw. It must have been the level of competition and that he had never faced top notch OL play. He looked soft, weak and overmatched in all phases to the point that to me he looked like he didn’t belong there.
Now, I didn’t look at his testing phase, maybe he killed that, but in live action he did not look ready for D-1 football to me.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

Okay…..that’s it, I am a fan of the uniforms. BRING THE WOOD! Way cool video, never seen it before.

OSU tailgates better than OU’s? That really contradicts what every OSU fan who has ever been to an OU tailgate has said to me.

Maybe Senator McCaskill should be more concerned with her own state’s University which is currently under a Title IX investigation for this: http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/10323102/university-missouri-officials-did-not-pursue-rape-case-lines-investigation-finds

Someone should Let McCaskill know about all of the charity work the Sooners are involved in. All of the $$$ and Time Bob invests in Charity around the state. How about all of the charity the players are involved in…. Maybe, Bob brought him in to develop his character, maybe they filed an appeal because Bob knows that idle hands do the devil’s work… and would rather have him focused on Saturdays and rebuilding his character than focused on his mistakes…
