WVU suspended their best CB “indefinitely” (I use quotes because at this point we don’t really know if “indefinitely” extends past Saturday), which were he to miss the OU game would be significant for a defense that was already suspect. (Post Gazette)

Always appreciate the candor, but I’m not entirely sure what purpose it serves for Joe C. to make comments like this now. (SI)

Some might argue this was more entertaining than a Mayweather fight.

You laugh but has anyone taken the time to make sure this dude isn’t a vampire now?

Oh my.

Never saw the first Dead Snow.. but damn, that looks fun!

    • Stats says:

I like zombie movies (love TWD), but don’t have time to see them all. Dead Snow just moved to the top of my list. “Red vs Dead” appears to really bring the comedy.

      • Jed says:

Okay. With no snark, what is the appeal of zombie flicks? I don’t get it, but clearly if I’m not in the minority, then at the very least there’s a big group of people who do like them.

        • Stats says:

Jed, I think there are 2 separate appeals, depending on the type:
          1) Shows/movies like the “The Walking Dead” are serious (non-comedy) that explore the challenge of living in a post-apocalyptic world. Basically, “Could I survive and take care of my family if the world lost it’s structure and there was some threat (zombie or otherwise).”
          2) What I call B or C comedies. I enjoy movies like Sharknado or Zombieland whether they are zombie or not. It’s just cheap over-the-top comedy; not my favorite movies, but they are fun to watch.

          • Jed says:

Okay, I can buy that. I guess my question was more specific: you can do the post-apocalypse deal or the humor angle without zombies. I’m curious about what is driving ‘zombies’ in particular.
The massive amount of time and energy devoted to Westerns in the 1950’s and 1960’s has been analyzed to death, but with some real insight.
Now it seems like we have zombies and vampires around every corner. Wazzup with that?

          • Stats says:

I agree completely; zombies aren’t necessarily needed for either.
However, the subtle reason is that zombies provide a great killable human-like non-human for us to use as enemies in play and movies. Generalization, but boys (and men) want to match themselves up against a human enemy, but women don’t want their little boys killing people in games, targets, or movies. Zombies, monsters, & even Stormtroppers take enough humanity away that they don’t make mom or grandma squeamish when they get slaughtered. Marketers found something that makes both sides happy.
Vampires are a different subject in the way they generally appeal to females.

          • Jed says:

Ooooooooooooo. We could go into a whole ‘objectification in time of war’ ‘clash of civilizations’ trope.
Get you at least ‘B’ in an undergrad Soc class.

Dead Snow? What’s that? As opposed to Live Snow? Perhaps it will reveal my age but I weary of blood and gore movies. Give me great storytelling and great acting like The Homesman. JMHO. And since I’m offering up an opinion, here’s another one: Saturday’s game is going to be our toughest test to date. I sure hope Heupel’s play calling improves over last Saturday’s script. Thanx again Jordan. You’re efforts are much appreciated.

    • BigJoeBrown says:

Dead Snow is one of those movies on Netflix you may have just skimmed over thinking it was another lowgrade zombie movie. Well it is a lowgrade zombie movie, but a hilarious one. I couldn’t stop laughing with confusion.

  • lovethemsooners says:

Is it true? Alternate uni’s at WVU this weekend?

  • Brad Warren says:

The suspended CB, Worley, was obviously going to try to cover Shepard. Not that he would be able to shut him down, because not sure anybody can do that completely. But, I think this should definitely create more wide open windows for Knight to throw.

    • EasTex says:

The good news here is that West Virginia’s secondary won’t be totally
depleted. As Worley moves off the active roster, senior cornerback Ishmael Banks replaces him. Banks’ three-game, NCAA-mandated suspension for academic issues is
now over. Banks started all 12 games at cornerback in 2013, and posted two interceptions.

      Link.
Hurts their depth not their starting lineup.

  • Dick says:

Word around the West Virginia Twittersphere is that Worley is having a Frank Shannon experience.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

That recruiting pic is just epic…..wow. Montgomery has to stay, and I imagine Stoops will do everything within his power to make sure that happens.

    • CoachTalk says:

Eventually he’s going to want to be a coordinator??

    • hOUligan says:

Love it and hoping it comes to pass they are ‘the squad’. Cannot get over M Overton. He is around 6’1 300+ and looks like someones lil bro standing between KLS and Shaq.

  • Fort Smith Okie says:

I expected an interview with Castiglione like this before now, and was frankly surprised it hadn’t happened. Once the the Ray Rice video was released, it became purely a question of when it would happen.

Castiglione had a choice, man up or hide behind a no comment or canned PR answer.

Had he shied away or hid behind canned comments, the interview becomes it’s own story and not a pretty one. Castiglione handled it the best way possible.

An honor for the college reception leader to pick Colvin, our lowly 3 star kid from Owasso over the SEC!SEC!SEC!! Cornerbacks, LSU included.
