Sooners News Daily 9.10.14

FOOTBALL

ICYMI, last night on his weekly radio show Bob Stoops confirmed the TFB report from earlier in the day that OU will NOT wear their alternate uniforms on Saturday vs. Tennessee.

I might argue Geneo Grissom has at least as interesting a career if not even possibly more so (alas, he never played QB), but nonetheless a quality read on Blake Bell. (NewsOK)

The insinuation that the frequency with which OU plays ‘Boomer Sooner’ is any less annoying than how many times we’ll hear ‘Rocky Top’ (regardless of whatever the scoreboard says Saturday night) is pretty rich. (Knox News)

Beating Oklahoma not ‘too farfetched’ according to one Tennessee player. (247)

I guess I’m not following what the culture change Texas is adjusting to…aren’t they used to losing? (DMN)

I think someone posted this in the comments yesterday, but it was too good not to share again.

Love the “Crane Kick” video — too funny! “Put him in a body bag, Johnny!”

  • King Kyle says:

Dick Graze? You’ve got to be a little messed up in the head to even begin to think to yourself “You know what? We need to shoot a rap video about dudes grazing each others dicks.”
But I did laugh a little so what does that say about me?

  • Fear The Magic says:

Ok for some reason after looking at that photo of Tennessee Center Mack Crowder ( in the article ) going head to head with Jordan Phillips makes me feel even more confident about the game Sat night.

  • lovethemsooners says:

OU has a soccer team?! Can’t we trade them out for a lacrosse team?

  • Jordan Esco says:

Meant to include that OU offered 2016 TE Isaac Nauta yesterday.

    Totally agree on Scorpion.

    And can’t wait for TWD.

  • Krys Allen says:

This Tennessee game is starting to get me nervous. Everyone is assuming we will win 70-0, but Tennessee had some really close games last year against good opponents. Also their team is young which means they are inexperienced, but at the same time they are dumb enough to think they can come into Norman and win. To me this really feels like the Texas game last year (werent we favored by a few TD’s in that one). These are the type of games where we have started slow in the past and let the opponent linger. This will definitely be a litmus test of where this Sooner squad is compared to previous years. If we start fast and play clean it will be a welcome change to the last 5 years, and I will definitely be more confident in our chances of ending up in the playoffs.

    • Indy_sooner says:

IMO, I think you see that much more on the boards that the locker room. The buys don’t have a short memory, if anything, and after Bama and Texas, I would hope by now they’ve been conditioned to respect every opponent.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

I don’t expect 70-0. They should have coaching and players that prevent that from happening. But if OU shows up and plays well, we should “coast”, whatever that means. I fully expect to win by 17-31 points, depending on garbage time and the like.

    • As long as the coaches and players take Tennessee seriously, then that’s all I care about. They are the one’s who are going to play the game.

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Yeah, but everything I’ve heard from our players to me suggests they aren’t taking this game lightly; they’re focused and excited to play the Vols, IMO.

  • Exiled In Ohio says:

Love the TFB content! But a friendly request: could we leave the off-color content over on LT? I don’t mean to be disrespectful or unfriendly, but one of the things that makes this such a great site for me is that the superb content is presented in a relatively clean environment. I realize that my opinion may not be shared by all, but wanted to voice it.

    Keep up the tremendous work!

    • What “off-color” content are you talking about? I didn’t see any in the above posts.

      • Jordan Esco says:

I’m presuming it was the dick graze video. Which, if true, was not meant to offend.

        • Exiled In Ohio says:

I wasn’t offended and there is no need for an apology. I just wasn’t enthused about the dick graze video. Over on LT, someone posts something off-color and a huge chain of posts develop which get progressively worse. I wanted to express an opinion that I hope we don’t even start down that road.

I really appreciate all your great work Jordan! I spend tons of time on the site (too much, like many others!) and would love to see it keep the family-friendly atmosphere.

          • boomersooner says:

spending too much time on LT is bad for anyone’s health. too much “you’re stupid…nuhuh you are” over there for me

          • Jordan Esco says:

Perfectly understandable. I probably should have included a quick warning on that, my bad. Will try to make sure I do it going forward. Thank you for reading tho!

          • Jed says:

I get your comment, but there’s a balance to be struck to keep the whole thing from becoming completely flavorless pap.
Plus, I enjoyed the implied dismissal of hiphop culture. Right there with SNL’s ‘Dick in a box’.

        • Josh says:

Gosh-a-Friday seriously? That’s Bull Butter!! Don’t hit play or stop the video if you get offended. I appreciate you introducing me to a whole new way to greet friends and colleagues.

    • Jordan Esco says:

Apologies, what are you referring to?

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

Last season I thought that beating texsa was a sure thing…I annoyed everyone on my facebook friends list by really getting into texsa hate week. Then I ate a TON of crow…I will no longer be calling any game a “sure win”. If there’s anything that OU football has taught me, it’s that there’s usually a WTF loss….hopefully we break that tradition this season…

    • BigJoeBrown says:

Twice that I can remember I have been so cocky with confidence only to have it turn around and bite me. Last year with Texas and the 05 USC game.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

Did anyone see the guy in the background of the “Boomer Sooner/Rocky Top” video? I thought that guy was Bo Pelini, perhaps it was his long lost brother?

  • Jed says:

Hey, Jordan, was there an ‘official’ pump video this year?

    • Jordan Esco says:

I haven’t seen one, just the intro video. Is that what you’re referring to?

      • Jed says:

I didn’t see anything that hadn’t been out on youtube for a couple of months at least. ‘Normally’ there’s something fresh out for the opening game. No biggie.

        • SoonerfanTU says:

I think I saw the one from the LA Tech game on the internet shortly after the game, but I’m not sure where.

I wasn’t overly impressed. A little “slow” for me.

        • Jordan Esco says:

They had a new intro video, but it was pretty underwhelming IMO.

  • Chris White says:

ESPN is pissing me off!! They said because Bob Stoops said THE TRUTH last year that the SEC is too heavy, he shot himself in the foot. It won’t be an impressive win Saturday if OU wins, especially if we blow them out. This is another example of ESPN showing their blatant boosting of the SEC no matter what. Others here said Gameday wasn’t coming because, why would ESPN cover a game where an SEC team may lose? Now they take these shots at our program, I can’t stand the Bias

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Been rumored for awhile, but I think they officially announced the opening game against Houston in Houston today, for 2016.

  • Thegunnfather says:

Feels different this year. Playing with a chip on our shoulder and a lot to prove. All starts with Stoops!

  • Steven says:

I’m pretty sure Tennessee isn’t bringing their band (I know they aren’t bringing their full band, and I don’t believe they’re bringing a pep band) so we’ll be hearing Boomer Sooner much more than Rocky Top.

  • Steven says:

I’m not a huge fan of the fact they’re hyping up our game with commercials but pass up Norman, OK for Fargo, ND. It’s kind of a slap in the face from ESPN.
