FOOTBALL

Blake Bell taking practice reps at QB you say? (NewsOK)

If Tech and/or Kingsbury were hoping to save face with this b.s. empty gesture re: Baker Mayfield, they were sadly mistaken. (CBS Sports)

The 500th slightly different version of the exact same story written about Charlie Strong and how Texas is going to be ‘tougher’ or ‘strong-er’ or whatever tired cliche you’d like to use. (SI)

Dana Holgorsen’s house is pretty cool. (Morgantown Mag)

OTHER

This is crazy.

The man is simply a genius.

Looks different.

*Rant** Forgive me but the news this morning touched a nerve with me. I get furious when I hear about organizations messing with young peoples lives just because they can. They latest is TT’s statement that they would allow OU to put Mayfield on scholly. You have him down so let’s kick him also. They know OU has used up all it’s scholly’s for this year. I understand TT’s position regarding Mayfield but you screwed up when you had a chance to make a commitment to him. This is a human being with hopes and dreams so stop srewing with him just because you can. **End Rant** Sorry but this story gets under my skin.

That is lik poking a stick in Mayfield’s eye. A kid in third grader pulling a dirty trick on a kid in kindergarten.

If this gets Mayfield on the field this year and he doesn’t lose an extra year then it is worth it. The shame is OU would have given Baker a scholarship in a heartbeat.

  • blaster1371 says:

TTech’s latest actions towards Mayfield was an act of pure revenge and a “slap back”- I chose slap because I think that is the demeanor that cake eater Dingleberry exhibits. They knew full well that he could not gain any benefit by being “released” at this point. They did so to be punitive and avoid the cost (public perception and otherwise) of fighting this in court. It would be something a little different if the release was accompanied with a note saying “we reconsidered and had come to realize we had taken an unfair and unreasonable stand on this issue.” If OU doesn’t kick their butts in Lubbock this year I may spend aconsiderable amount of money to replace the things I break during that game….. Then again I may have to anyway if OU pounds their arses into the west Texass dirt because I will be bouncing off the walls.

Not surprised with bell getting reps at qb. It’s smart if you ask me. Now if mayfield becomes eligible then I see no reason for bell to take reps at qb.

    • blaster1371 says:

I would think he still has to set out a year but shouldn’t lose a year of elfin illite since he was “released”. The NCAA ruling last year in the case of that freshman defensive lineman (vanderhoven?– something Dutch) who went from Notre dame to UCLA may have set some kind of precedent.

      • Zack says:

I would be ok with it if he could just redshirt. But I think it’s dumb to hold a kid back when he’s a walk on, a coach shouldn’t be able to do that.

      • paganpink says:

I think the Elfin elites are who are running this country! Not to get too political of course, LOL.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Agreed. Bell would likely be significantly better at QB this year than Thomas would be. Moot issue if Mayfield can play, but if not, it’d be nice for Bell to have some reps under his belt.

      • Zack says:

Exactly. More than likely they will trot Thomas out there in the 2nd half if we indeed blow out la tech and Tulsa, and see where he’s at. If he struggles then I can see bell getting even more reps in case something happens to knight.

Showing the nick offerman clip to my high school senior classes today!

  • Gary Robbins says:

Maybe Texas Tech knew they were doomed due to the appeal but now they are really looking childish. What’s that saying- “what goes around comes around”. Mark your calendars Texas Tech as Nov. 15th will be here soon
Yeah Jordan you’ve done it again, got our rile up before my 1st pot of coffee. Keep it up-love it!

  • Eric Hoffpauir says:

The SI article is a new variation on the theme. Instead of “Charlie Strong is going to kick their ass into shape”, it’s “Charlie Strong is thoughtfully changing the culture”. Initially UT put out the story that he took away their team bus rides to the practice field to whip the softness out them. Now it’s supposedly to allow coaches to walk with their players and bond.

  • lovethemsooners says:

TTU can make this move to try and make themselves appear better, but anyone that follows the college game knows what an empty gesture this is. They should be ashamed of themselves. They deserve to get blasted by all the media outlets for this move. Future TTU QB prosects, I hope you are paying attention.

We need to run their fans out of their own stadium by halftime, and spend the entire 2nd half “jumping around” in their house.

  • ND52 says:

    Hey Kliff Kingsbury…………..

  • Mr. Jones says:

Anyone know what time Samia is committing?

  • Mike Reed says:

Hopefully Mayfield wins his appeal and is able to play by the Tech game. Trevor and Co. lights their arse up in the first half so he can take the 2nd half off then bring in Mayfield to light their arse up again and just freaking humiliate them. Pound Dingleberry and crew back to the stone age.

    • JJsooner1 says:

I would consider your scenario an early Christmas gift.

    • pitbull17 says:

There could not be a more ideal way for this to end than what you just described!

    • paganpink says:

Yes! And my fondest hope is to go unbeaten and play Alabama again for the National Championship, beat the pants off them once again, and then have Bob Stoops ask them “did your team have trouble getting UP for this game? LOL- Sweeeeet.

  • JJsooner1 says:

How in the world does Genius guy keep a straight face talking all dat BS? Good stuff.

  • Jason Vos says:

    No open practice report?

  • sebsooner says:

This might be a dumb question…but is Mixon’s scholarship available? If it is, is it already too late to give it to Mayfield? Also, just because he has a scholarship, he would still have to wait for the appeal to be able to play this season, correct?

    • Pokerman says:

From what I’ve read, Mixon will probably still be on scholarship – just won’t play football this season.

  • leatherneck1061 says:

Not at all surprised Bell is taking snaps in practice – kind of expected it actually. As for the genius guy, it’s interesting he actually assumes Bill and Hillary are having sex. Weird.

  • OUknowitscomin says:

I’m seeing Bell snaps just being prudent. Keep him loose on QB front. TK goes down, if Cody comes in & struggles immensely for some reason, already know Hansen not ready…got to go with Bell & save Hansen redshirt.
Tech…being if too late to get scholarship..almost seems like deliberate salt in wound move by Tech both to OU & Baker.

    • paganpink says:

Yes, it is prudent now that they’re evidently over the point where they don’t want him to have any distractions from learning and working as a TE. They could throw in a few trick plays too where he goes in in an obvious Belldozer situation and burns them with his arm by airing out a long one!

  • j l says:

Charlie strong only faced 4 AP top 25 teams his entire tenure at louisville. UT will face at least 4, if not 5 or 6 this season alone.

Strong is about to get culture shocked. Ask holgorsen and patterson how that went for them =)

  • Rene Goupillaud says:

I see TT’s action as an admission they are wrong.

My solution, run it up big time. Make KK have to deal with alums who are upset.

  • Thegunnfather says:

TT we are going to blow your doors off either way! Your only making things worse!
