FOOTBALL

ICYMI, the season is over before it even started.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd here come the moral authority on this DGB thing. (CBS Sports)

I’m generally not a fan of this particular writer (and I’m still not here), but he is offering a counter to the majority stance being taken against DGB playing this year. (CBS Sports)

Baker Mayfield and his lawyer are going to file an appeal (again) with the NCAA prior to taking things to court (if necessary). (ESPN)

Longhorn welfare. (Fox Sports)

Good read on some of what you can expect from OU’s defense in 2014. (BH)

Another ICYMI, it does not appear as though Vontre McQuinnie will be making it to Norman.

Can we do whatever is necessary to make this happen in real life, please.

Is he having a seizure?

BASKETBALL

The Big 12 released the conference portion of the women’s b-ball schedule. (Sooner Sports)

OTHER

I mean…I’d be happy to take it off your hands for you.

Does this look good or just really, really depressing?

Well, the trailer certainly has the feel of a Scorsese movie.

Dang! That Tommy Lee Jones movie looks seriously bad a$$! Glad to see decent Westerns coming back.

  • Big Higg says:

    Sports effin illustrated.

  • Dude You Didn't says:

Since you are posting movies…Here’s just another Nate Powers movie (ex-OU Wrestler) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rieoWn9BdrQ#t=106

  • Eric Hoffpauir says:

I watched that whole Gundy video, but I missed the part where he danced.

  • blaster1371 says:

The jones movie looks interesting. Recent westerns are doing better with that grit and hardness that people had back then. Women on the Great Plains in that time period were some seriously tough women and life for them was a true struggle. I hope the movie does them justice. The Scorsese movie looks really good and it’s a genre he has mastered and a new take on the subject of organized crime.

  • blaster1371 says:

Sports illustrated please leave OU alone, pleeeaaaassssssseee!

  • JJsooner1 says:

Tommie Lee does great work. This has the feel of “Hell On Wheels”. Love that series. Realistic and I agree with Blaster 1371, women had to be so tough to survive. Lord only knows what they had to go through.

Call to arms, the vomit being spewed on the airwaves is horrible namely attacks against Coach Stoops, my mentor and one of the finest human beings you could ever meet..
From the Rivals site…..edited to get to the point……
“the latest was on the Chris Childers show? where a known SEC fanatic stated
by the name of Rachel Barbeau ripped into Stoops for his players and program for violence against women. She was taking rumors and taking it as gospel etc. Really trying to make OU look bad on this National program. Childers the host was playing devil’s advocate and said what OU was doing was legal by the rules. Basically, in a nut shell she was saying between the lines that OU was a lowlife program. Not taking into account Stoops 16 year history at all.
—–What I heard, Childers said that Oklahoma is a national embarrasment the following day…
Everytime I hear something I am on the phone and I hope that some of you will take time out of your day to chime in and stand up for our Coach our team and our players!
Childers said he will be in Norman next week for the annual football tour and would ask Stoops about the players involved: DGB, Shannon and Mixon. Good I hope every Sooner fan shows up to this clowns show and gives him a what fer (iglionrious bastards)

    • SoonerGoneEast says:

Several years back Chris Childers would come on with Bill King, and it was hard not to be embarrassed for him. He had a great voice, but not much else. Clearly he didn’t belong in the same studio with Bill King. There aren’t many who do, but still, this guy belongs on a local AM station somewhere.

  • Kevin Fielder says:

Can Roman Reigns SM Punch a Kingsbury cutout? That would be a happy thing.

  • JrsySooner says:

OU players have been on the cover White and Bradford and they won a Heisman, and we were on the cover and then won a title…I’ll take all the press we can get…

  • Kevin Burger says:

If Dennis Dodd thinks Oklahoma wouldn’t fight as hard for the eligibility of someone who wouldn’t make an immediate impact this season, then I can’t help but think he’s unaware of the Baker Mayfield situation.

  • vargo05 says:

Here’s another piece of “journalistic” vomit. Just so many inaccuracies it’s just pathetic. Another moral police officer disguised as a “journalist”.

    • Malicong says:

In the article he keeps mentioning that the players are feeling “bulletproof” and the “victims” are being attacked. I guess getting kicked out of your chosen, home state school with the possibility of never playing college football again(DGB), being suspended from school for a year when the evidence in the case could actually show he did nothing wrong (Shannon) and (although we don’t know all the facts) getting attacked verbally, racially, and physically and defending yourself leads to, at best, not being able to prepare for the season when no laws were broken, or at worst, being kicked off the team and out of school with criminal charges pending. Those look like consequences to me.

      • vargo05 says:

Or how about the fact that it’s been said Mixon has been said to have been attacked? Isn’t he a victim then too? Or is he still bulletproof because he plays football?

  • Alex Hill says:

I miss Rocky Calmus in a Sooner Uniform so much! Such a great player and leader

  • Jared William Reininger says:

Isn’t CBS the one with the SEC Network or whatever? Because lord knows the SEC schools aren’t known for any criminal activity. I mean blatant….absolutely horrific….went out of his way to be a hypocrite. Now I don’t know DGB, I have met Shannon once, and I know Joe decently well. I can tell you that Shannon and Joe are both incredibly nice and polite. Does it make them great people? No. But I don’t consider them bad people either. Did they make mistakes? Sure. But who hasn’t? And his bringing up of “Stoops wouldn’t do such a thing for a lesser receiver, well one, that is a red herring, and two, that is predicting an event that likely wouldn’t happen. Stoops isn’t going to go to every school and pick up EVERY player who got kicked out or who had some issues. It is beyond asinine. And Stoops is obviously trying to stay competitive, and why not, if he can do that and maybe mentor some boys into men.

    • Dave Clouse says:

      sEcSPN not CBS

    • Zack says:

CBS used to have the contract with the sec and I bet they still do to some degree. But they did launch the SEC2 network this week with espn still getting it’s due as SEC1. And stoops did piss off a lot of the media by basically saying they are building up the sec to build up their own status. So unfortunately stoops is going to be crushed by writers from a lot of different outlets if this ou team under achieves. And if they happen to play for the title then those same writers will tell you how many criminals stoops trotted out on the field. And the best part would be if stoops won 3 out of 4 or 2 in a row and the writers had to tell how great ou and the big 12 are.

      • paganpink says:

Bring it on! They still mention infractions under Switzer that are trivial and petty compared to what many schools, including schools in the SEC, have been caught doing since then. Many ABC/ESPN announcers can’t seem to even hide their bias, as in last years Sugar Bowl where they verged on refusing to report the Sooners winning as everyone knew Alabama just must be coming back any minute! Fine. We’ll just go play football. They can recite the numbers and size of each defensive line player and the impossibility of anyone being able to handle such a mighty group while we sack their quarterback and steal the ball. But those are turnovers according to Saban where they gave us points, and without those points we would have lost. LOL As if our team had nothing to do with their turnovers! Hope we play Alabama again this year for the National title and spank them all over again.

  • VanillaAce says:

The Homesman won’t be nominated for an Acadamy Award… it doesnt have Meryl Str…. OH… nevermind.

  • Malicong says:

Ahh, that magical 2000 season. Nice to see a slim Mangino on the sidelines as well.

  • lovethemsooners says:

I don’t recall as many program bashing articles when Auburn won the national title with a QB they had on their payroll. I don’t even recall this many program bashing articles after FSU won their title last year with a QB that is still under investigation, on the verge of losing their Title IX funding.

I say “F” ’em all, go win the title and let them complain about that too.

  • lovethemsooners says:

……and where are all the articles bashing the TTU program for what they are doing to Baker Mayfield?!

  • Stephen says:

I wonder how fun it would be to party with the Gundy brothers…

  • Drew says:

I feel pretty sorry for Gundy. Wearing the same visor for 3 years has got to make that thing filthy. I’d tell him to just get another, but there’s no point in making him feel bad.

  • Bill Duncan says:

If you look at ESPN right now you wouldn’t know that there was college football outside of the SEC

  • leatherneck1061 says:

Dennis Dodd is deluded. He takes his particular interpretation of what the rule is for as being the same as clearly-defined black-letter law. Doesn’t even occur to him that the “loophole” he describes has been used in this way before, and that if the NCAA hasn’t rewritten the rule or added clarification by this point, then they have essentially decided against it. Haters just gotta hate I guess.

  • Jordan Esco says:

If you can consider this an update, here’s the latest on Joe Mixon.
    http://newsok.com/article/5210974

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Do any of the brainiacs know the average time the NCAA takes to rule on a waiver request/appeal?

    • Jordan Esco says:

There really is no “average time.” Each case is unique both in the circumstances and how/when the NCAA chooses to handle it. There’s just really no possible way to know for sure.

      • paganpink says:

Just one of the frustrating things about the NCAA. they’re not only inconsistent at times they are very slow. Except when they’re not. Weird.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Any rumors on when the Joe Mixon saga will come to an end?

    • Jordan Esco says:

Just posted a NewsOK story stating the NPD could turn their investigation findings over to the DA as early as tomorrow. But that certainly doesn’t mean we’ll have a resolution at that point.

  • LongBomber says:

Long time reader….first time poster. Based on some information I received earlier today, the Mixon case will, in fact, be turned over to the D.A. by the end of the week. Both parties involved will be charged with a misdemeanor and Mixon will be suspended for the first three games of the season. He should be back at practice sometime next week.
Thank you guys for all the hard work you put in to make this website the absolute best for all news OU-related!

    • paganpink says:

Interesting to see if that’s how it works out long bomber. If so, it wouldn’t be the first time I knew about something first from this board. Welcome!.

    • BigJoeBrown says:

If your information is deemed correct….you may be in for not one but two johnnies charcoal broilers.

  • EasTex says:

Seems Vince Young went out and found a job.

  • Dustin says:

Any updates from the scrimmage this morning ?

  • Thegunnfather says:

Big 12 and the rest of college football need to make a deal with fox sports and the rest of the country can boycott espn

  • Drew says:

Found this set of lowlight reals over on SB. They’re like highlight reals, but when you show up on the other team’s instead of your own. I got a few laughs out of it: http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/8/14/6002041/bad-college-football-team-hype-videos
