FOOTBALL

The rare opinion on this DGB situation that you actually should listen to, a former Sooner – Lynn McGruder – who benefitted from a second chance. (NewsOK)

Catching up with former OU RB Kejuan Jones. (SiN)

UT president Bill Powers reportedly being forced out. (DMN)

Throwback.

RECRUITING

Pretty good read on OU commit Marquise Overton (TW)

OTHER

Grandma karma is gonna pay this person back in a big way.

These were pretty popular over the weekend.

Don’t necessarily have any strong opinions going in, but not entirely sure how I feel about this.

The world’s tallest (for now) water slide is only about 15-20 minutes away from my house and I will be having no part of this.

What is the timeline for the NCAA approving/ DGB?

    • Jordan Esco says:

Whenever they feel like it. Other than that, there really is no timeline.

Good piece on McGruder, glad he was able to straighten up and fly right.
With DGB we still don’t know what if any charges will be filed on his last marijuana arrest, it could still be a felony.
There was also another good piece on NewsOk concerning DGB which included a text from DGB’s girlfriend.

“I’m not sticking up for him,” the police report quoted the girlfriend
as texting, “but football is really all he has going for him and
pressing charges would ruin it for him completely. I really just want
all of us to move past this and not have this happen again by completely
being done with him. I can’t do this anymore. Now he’s hurting my
    friends, not just me
    .”

DGB has considerably more work to do on modifying his behavior than McGruder did and while many think he will have good influences from OU players, I am more concerned with him having a bad influence on them.

According to another report I read this morning, Pinkel says he never failed a drug test while at MizzOU. Apparently the smoke wasn’t his, and he was with people he admittedly shouldn’t have been with. I like to think our roster is filled with positive role models, and I see nothing but success coming out of this.

Still not clear on the incident with the physical abuse with the girl, but I’m sure Stoops knows all the details, and if he’s comfortable taking a chance, so am I.

      • EasTex says:

There doesn’t seem to be much ambiguity about his trespass/assault, or that the young woman didn’t file charges.
I will defer to Coach Stoops, but I will view DGB with a “hairy eyeball” unless or until he demonstrates he is deserving of yet another chance.
Words are fine and he said all the right things the other day, but it is his actions in the past and those in the future that I am most interested in.

    • Eric Hoffpauir says:

That last sentence really bothered me. I’m not quite as concerned about DGB rubbing off on other players. He’s going to have extra scrutiny inside and outside the program. It just rubs me the wrong way when someone gets multiple extra chances like this.

He better not screw it up. If he assaults a woman while at Oklahoma, Stoops really does bear part of the blame for bringing him in.

      • EasTex says:

I have the utmost respect for Coach Stoops and will defer to his judgment on this, but for me the Cost-Benefit Analysis says no friggin’ way he should be at OU.
Meanwhile, Lawrence Phillips, an infamous “second chance” football star will be in prison until 2032 because of his continuing assaults on women.

        • Dana Rogers says:

Troubling to say the least. Would add that should this end up going south, all participants in the decision making process share in the blame.

    • JB says:

      Well said.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

That video that says “first launch”, wasn’t the first launch. The real first launch was before the remodel and adding of nets, and the raft went airborn on that second hill, and off the slide, I believe. There is video of it somewhere, and that is why the opening was delayed, the second hill was changed, and the nets were added.

    No thanks! 🙂

  • SoonerPhins says:

OU vs Neb Big12 CCGs were always the best. Hard fought all the way to the end. Sigh… OU needs to have Neb as a permanent rival like South Carolina and Clemson.

  • Thomas Lenard says:

    Where’s Cameron Kenney now?

  • OUknowitscomin says:

B12 Title game…thanks for memory. Was great seeing Box again, Broyles doing his thing & so many freshman stepping up…Finch, Stills & TJ.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

Dang, sounds like Kejaun Jones wife can scrap! Pretty cool.

  • Super Keith says:

Interesting take from McGruder, but I have to ask; why is that the “opinion we should listen to”? I try to listen to different opinions, and form my own.
