FOOTBALL

Hey, did you hear DGB is coming to OU? God only knows how much as been and/or will be written about it, but I actually thought this was a pretty good take on things. (Fox Sports)

* On this same DGB point, you’re going to hear/read A LOT of people tell you all about the things they think they know regarding his chances of getting the waiver that would allow him to play in 2014. Those people are all wrong. The truth of the matter is no one knows, primarily because the decision is in the hands of the NCAA. And anyone who thinks they can predict what the NCAA will do is fooling themselves and/or lying to you. So you can read/listen to whatever these people have to say, but if it were me I wouldn’t waste my time.

Here’s all you need to know. OU wouldn’t have bothered doing this if they felt there was no chance of the waiver getting approved. And while that certainly guarantees nothing, it’s more relevant than any of these people guessing what they think will happen. We’ll know when we know.

OU A.D. Joe Castiglione was on for a full hour yesterday with Toby Rowland. (KREF)

Former five star recruit and Ohio State Buckeye Mike Mitchell will have to sit out the 2014 season for Texas Tech. (DMN)

OTHER

Lon Kruger continues to be a fantastic human being. (Sooner Sports)

I mean….it’s probably safe in there, right?

Jordan. You’re the man!!!! Don’t you think it’s time that they promoted you to a full fledged Brainiac? I think we need a write-in campaign.

The TV announcers in the baseball clip had the perfect reaction. Thanks for the laugh Jordan!

One more thing…about the Fox piece listed next to the DGB thing:

Keep in mind that the author of the blog-like comment (David Ubben) is a Mizzou grad. During his time at ESPN, he always had a little but of a transparent side (when it came to Mizzou). He was typically pretty fair in his coverage of the conference, but when Mizzou bolted, you could tell he got a little defensive in his writing.

Like most Mizzou fans I know, this has touched some kind of a weird nerve. They loved having DGB, then they all professed to be “proud” when he was booted. Now, they all want to slam OU for giving him another shot. I personally thing they really hate the fact that he ended up at OU, back in the conference they were so happy to leave.

I could be off base, and Ubben did make some good points, but the piece wreaked of sour grapes to me.

If I may SK… Knew I would probably make some comments when first heard but now it’s percolated a bit sos may get it half-right anyways. Most folks believe in second chances and as for myself, if I’d gotten caught doing half the stuff I did as a young man I’d be writing this through six inch bars. My overview – Seems Coach has laid down the precondition’s law (and few doubt he can be a tough Sheriff) and DGB says has realizes his mistakes and agreed to conducting himself as he should. Sos yeah; some UM fans have a burr under their butts and maybe that’s to be expected. While OU/DGB have a real opportunity to send a positive message as concerns do-over’s and the maturation of young people. Fingers crossed it works out for all involved.

Enough lurking. Thank you all for entertaining me for the past few months. I’ve been an avid follower since V-Day, otherwise known as the Sugar Bowl. Thanks especially to Jordan and K for the news, and thank JY for opening my eyes to the world on the line of scrimmage. I really hope that an analysis of blocking schemes becomes regular during the season, but I know having a little one takes time away from other passions. The game inside the game allows us to appreciate the coaches so much more.

I’m an ’06 OU grad. Ran track in Crimson and Cream, which hardly makes me equipped to give any insight at all.

      awesome, thank you for reading!

Thanks Fuerte! And very cool to have a former OU athlete on here. I disagree though, I think you can definitely offer insight into the life of a student athlete and athleticism in general. I really think that a great athlete in any sport that pushes themselves to the edge of their ability understands the nuances that separate one athlete from another. And in the end, that is a lot of what evaluation is. Again, thanks for reading and joing the discussion!

This scenario with DGB is made even more interesting with the Baker Mayfield situation. I have no idea how either one will work out. Just one comment though:

If I were Mayfield’s parents and the NCAA declines the waiver, I would be in federal court the next day. Tech’s jackass coach should just shut up. They had every opportunity to offer him and CHOSE not to do so. Only a vindictive jerk would do this. Ok rant is over. Sorry guys!!

Well done JJ! But I am a little uncertain about how you feel about the TT head coach.

    • FeedtheMonster says:

I really hope we humiliate tech on their field this year, and all the players say “That was for Baker!”
