Sooners News Daily 7.28.14

In no way did I attempt to purposely avoid the Joe Mixon situation with respect to today’s post. I just didn’t find anything I felt warranted linking to. There have been no new developments and I didn’t feel like subjecting you to all the local guys moralizing how much is wrong with college athletics these days.

The expectation is that we’ll get something in the way of news today and hopefully that is correct so there can at least start to be a resolution to things. And of course we’ll be here to keep you updated when/if news breaks.

FOOTBALL

Good read on the work Aaron Colvin is putting in to come back from his torn ACL. (FL Times Union)

Kevin Sumlin responded (he didn’t jab, or rip, or bash, or whatever over-exaggerated term the media chose to use for click bait) to Stoops’ comment about the Aggies non-con schedule. (FBschedules)

ICYMI in the craziness that was this weekend’s Open Post comment section, this video of OU commit Austin Seibert hitting a 66-yard field goal kind of went viral.

OTHER

Not good.

This is obviously a promotional video and while we’re obviously not endorsing any particular product (well, not for free anyway – hint, hint) still thought it was a pretty cool video.

Any Walking Dead fans here?

Kinda feel like this looks pretty badass.

Our new kicker is going to be quite a weapon. He could turn out to be one the most important recruits of this class.

Watching the defensive pump up reminded me how much Gabe Lynn met his potential at safety last year and just laid wood on people. Hope one of our new safeties can fill that enforcer role.

Hytari Byrd. I think the collisions between him and Ford are behind all the earthquakes!

    • Jed says:

I was thinking the same thing when I watched it. Damn but Gabe Lynn hit some people.

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

Yeah, but hopefully there’s a little less “hitting” and a lot more tackling. I don’t know how many times I watched Lynn lead with his shoulder, and although he delivered a pretty good blow, a lot of the time he didn’t make the tackle. It was frustrating to watch sometimes.

Big Walking Dead Fan; could talk TWD as much as OU Football. I was surprised they teased us with so much while we’re still over 2 months away from the season premier. Also, love the books/comics, same great theme with different twists and deaths.

Really gonna miss Colvin in the backfield. It would be nice to have someone like him back as an assistant when he’s done in the league. Lockdown DB
