The videos were great today. Crimson Tide lol. What do you guys think the odds of Mayfield winning the appeal are? Doesn’t seem very likely but TFB know way more about this type of stuff than I do. I’m not one who thinks he should start over Knight but it would be nice to have an experienced backup in case he can’t stay healthy this year.

Its funny – I feel like Mayfield deserves a waiver way more than DGB, but I feel the chances are actually the opposite. I still feel DGB gets a waiver and Baker doesn’t. And all the chatter seems to back that up

      • Super K says:

Yeah coaches feel pretty good about DGBs chances

        • Mike Reed says:

If i were the Mayfield’s and the NCAA denied the appeal I would immediately have my attorney(s) file a suit in Federal Court and put it on the fast track.

        • Jed says:

Has anyone shared the reasoning with you, K? The whole ‘out of his control’ thing seems very cut and dried to me.

        • SoonerinLondon says:

I spoke to an assistant AD a week or so ago…no names, for obvious reasons…who said (and I quote) “we think it is 80% that DGB will be cleared to play this year”. I hope he’s right. My only experience with these things is history and it seems we never get clearance, or it takes half the year (Saunders) before it comes. DGB could be a difference-maker for this year’s offense.

          • shawn says:

Did he give any specifics as to why they are so optimistic? It would be great if he gets cleared.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

Unfortunately, he didn’t. I was a little uncomfortable pushing for more, also, because it was kind of a privileged conversation. As you may know, the OU AD team doesn’t like to tell too many stories “out of school”, so I usually just take what I get.

      • shawn says:

I agree, although to get them both a waiver would be great. Even though Mayfield may be more deserving IMO it is more valuable to the team to have DGB able to play this upcoming season. Regardless of what anyone thinks of DGB you cannot deny the talent he has and the options it would give this offense and the headaches it would give defenses.

    • James D-Space says:

IMO… I think the appeal will still be denied. I think that it’s incredibly unfair, since the kid was a walk on and paid his own way. I hope that someday he gets to start against TTU, imagine what that would be like if he went and threw for 400 and 5 TD’s. That would be incredible. Anyway, I think the NCAA will still determine that he should have went to a school outside of the Big 12 if he wanted to be eligible and play immediately.

    • Jordan Esco says:

Personally, I think there is some momentum building up in his favor the more it’s talked about nationally. But that said, the NCAA could just as easily shoot it down b/c they’re pricks.

  • vargo05 says:

Man, I miss Mr. Keith Jackson on Saturdays. The best to ever do it, IMO. To listen to him and compare it to what the hack Brent Musberger does makes it seem like they are in two different professions.

    • Sooner Ray says:

      Woooooe Nelly.

      • Boom says:

We got us a barn burner. There are some voices that I will never forget. Keith is at the top with Jim McKay and they guy who did the old NFL films.

    • boomersooner says:

My favorite as well. “Let me tell ya about Keith Jackson”

    • Craig McCoy says:

Don’t care for his comment about Oklahoma soiling the Rose Bowl back in 2003, that was BS.

    • ALXMAC says:

You mean Mushburger? My Dad and I don’t agree on much, but our equal hatred of BM as an announcer spans decades. At least now he’s only calling SEC games.

  • Sooner Ray says:

White, Bradley, Clayton, with Peterson…get outta here.

  • SoonerPhins says:

Just wondering, If Missouri indeed signed off on the waiver, would the NCAA still reject it given the situation?

    • disqus_MGlT3IoZ53 says:

If they go by the same protocol from the LSU point guard, he should get cleared. But this is the NCAA we are talking about

    • Jordan Esco says:

That’s just one part of the process and only if OU pursued that particular option (which has never been officially confirmed they are). But, yes, even if Mizzou signed off on it the NCAA could still reject the waiver.

  • SamPato says:

The thing that gets me about Mayfield’s situation is that he’ll now be stung for two years of tertiary education out of his own pocket, when it’s clear that he’s more than deserving of a scholarship from nearly any institution across the US. Without knowing much about his own family’s situation, that’s nothing to be sneezed at these days! If only the NCAA had more of a “reasonable man” test for situations like these… step out of the hard line mentality, and listen to common sense for once…

    • FeedtheMonster says:

On the bright side, OU will have the best scout team QB in the country this season, and the NFL is in his future, so he will make that money back.

    • EasTex says:

I believe his is from Austin Westlake, a fairly exclusive zip code.

      • J J says:

        Understatement.

        • EasTex says:

Been a long time since I was there, like 28 years ago.

          • J J says:

Haha.. I really meant it, as no one should feel bad at all about his parents footing the bill. AT ALL.

          • EasTex says:

No, not in this instance. To his credit he still has the desire to play ball and the skills to do so.
When OU hangs a whipping on Taco Tech I hope he has a chance to tell Kingsbury “great game.”

Is it Joe Don Looney? Just a guess based on the gear they are wearing. That was before my time, but I thought I would take a crack at it.

      • Josh says:

That was around the same time frame but Joe Don will be appearing next week for sure.

  • Jared William Reininger says:

I think the mayfield ruling could set a precedent. I mean, it isn’t a common situation. The NCAA should decide what is best for the student athlete IMO. I mean I am all for it helping OU, but it seems so many times they are siding with the school and not the players. I feel if you are a walk on and never given a scholarship, you should be able to transfer without much penalty. As the article stated, according to the NCAA, he was never “recruited”. So I don’t see how they have so much power over his life decisions.

  • John Garner says:

How can Coker – a transfer from FSU — be eligible at Bama this season, but Mayfield — a walk-on — not at OU? I don’t understand it, but what about the NCAA makes sense?

  • Josh says:

Wow Justin Blackmon is not the brightest bulb in the chandelier.
