FOOTBALL

Big 12 media days kick off this morning. Oklahoma isn’t scheduled until tomorrow (first up, 10:00 am), but should anything of relevance (other than your typical coach-speak) take place we’ll be sure to update you. You can follow along with all the “action” during the two-day even here.

Speaking of Big 12 media days, a clever list of one question for each Big 12 football coach. (BH)

If you can consider a prediction to be bold when you leave yourself multiple outs, then you might enjoy the Oklahoman’s “bold” predictions. (NewsOK)

OU is featured prominently in this list of the Top 15 Big 12 games. (ESPN)

This article suggest Sam Bradford is the one thing holding the Rams back. Apparently not that they’ve lacked an o-line, top WRs, no RB last year. Nope, it’s Bradford. (Yahoo)

This is from last week, but in the event anyone missed it. A&M recruit puts a Texas coach (everyone wants it to be Charlie Strong) on blast. (College Spun)

2015 RB & OU offer, Soso Jamabo, talks about the possibility of playing two sports in college. (CBS Sports)

Yeah, I didn’t get that about Bradford either. They questioned whether he’s ever shown that he can be a good QB in the league. I guess if you ignore his stellar start to last year and his Offensive Rookie of the Year, and blot out the good games here and there through the rest of his career, he’s shown absolutely nothing.

He’s still got to get the job done this season, but I have no doubt that Bradford has the tools if the line can keep him upright and the receivers can hang on to the ball.

  • BoomerDave says:

Unfortunately for Sam, almost everyone else I’ve heard speak about the Rams say the same thing. There have been a number of current and former players on ESPN recently that have called Sam “soft”. They say the OL is average to above-average and that Sam does not move well within the pocket nor get rid of the ball in a timely fashion. The call him an OL’s nightmare. We all love Sam, but his days as an NFL starter may be numbered if he doesn’t have a breakout year this season. Many in the St Louis media are calling for his head.

    • thebigdroot says:

I’ve only heard one NFL player call him soft. And everybody wants to forget how he got the snot beat out of him the first two years in the league, and the second year he played with a bum ankle. Those OL’s he had the first two years were sieves.

    • Boom says:

Everyone is talking about his lack of OL & skillies. I agree. However, peeling the layers back, Sam has had 5 OC’s in 6 years. That’s insane. I saw a show on the NFL network blasting his new OC saying he’s the worst in the league. Main reason was his passing philosophy. I was hoping Sam would get traded to Houston.

      • Josh says:

Absolutely agree that the instability at the OC position has been the biggest obstacle to Sam being successful. I believe there was a post on here a month or so ago that broke down the Schottenheimer passing scheme and it was dreadful! Way too many shallow crossing routes with the other receivers running give up routes that had zero impact on the play. Just look at his time with the Jets… how this guy keeps getting OC jobs, I do not know! Plus people never mention that he plays against arguably the top 2 NFL defenses 4 times a year, and AZ has a stout D also! I am the first to admit that I am a HUGE Sam homer, I’m an OKC kid, had 3 sisters graduate from PC North, but the kid has gotten very little support from the Rams. I for one hope he does get an opportunity to move on and start fresh somewhere new.

        • Boom says:

Josh, what level do you coach. You and J.K. do a great job of offering additional insight. I don’t coach on a high level but I’m around it due to my son. From X NFL players who are trainers to NFL/college position coaches. I enjoy and have learned a lot from them.

          • Josh says:

Thanks so much, greatly appreciate the compliment. I played D1 football and coach what is now 6A or the highest level of HS football in TX, been lucky to be involved with two of the bigger programs in the state.

          • Boom says:

I live in the Klein Oak school district in Houston. What city, if Houston I would like to come watch you guys

  • Super K says:

    Moves were Mixonesque!

    • SoonerPhins says:

      Bustin Rent-A-Cops Ankles lol

    • jon_bence says:

That’s hilarious! I thought about that video of him against the 2 DB’s who ended up running into one another…too funny!

  • SoonerPhins says:

Being the Phins fan that I am, I know how hard it is to watch your QB run for his life every down because of a piss poor OL. The Rams have no play makers at the skill position up until recently. Sam was leading the NFL in stats before his injury and Im sure will do it again. If Sam was with a more established team (49ers, Broncos, etc.) he would be putting up Manning numbers. Hopefully the Rams have some one that can catch a pass before they blame their QB again.

  • bjwalker82 says:

I am as big of a Sammy B fan as you’ll find, but they did have an RB last year. He didn’t come on until Sam went down though

  • lovethemsooners says:

They’ve been on Bradford pretty much since day one. That huge contract kind of rubs folks that way. I didn’t like that he had to go play for the Rams to begin with. Hopefully he’ll have the breakout year we all hope he does, and know he’s capable of.

    • Cory Reedy says:

Rams are a dark horse this season. Jeff Fisher can COACH…end of story. The defense will be a top-10 NFL defense. Sam needs an O-line that can protect him, a few receivers to throw the rock at, and a decent running game. If they can’t block, run, or catch, it doesn’t matter what Sammy does.

  • SoonerinLondon says:

Obviously, not a UT fan, but that aTm twitter post says more about the recruit than about Strong.

  • I like Boomer Sooner says:

In typical fashion OSU beat writer Helsley’s 3 predictions all have to do with possible OU losses. Only one also mentions an OSU win. That gave me a chuckle.

    • steveinok says:

At least they were bold predictions. Stupid, but bold. One guy said OU would win home games. I mean, I am sure glad I was sitting down for that one.

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Meh, I’ve gotten pretty tired of arguing with the Sam Bradford haters. I’ve seen every game of his career and I know that Bradford will be perfectly fine and is already a great QB.
