There is a rumor making it’s way around the interwebs that the Vikings could be looking to unload AD. It is emanating from Bleacher Report, which should tell you how much attention you need to pay to it. But in the interest of full disclosure….(Examiner)

    I didn’t meet Coach Stoops…………
Ah yes. That makes sense. One of the top 25 kids in the country comes in and you don’t have your lead man there to meet him and spend time with him. Will this be added to your multi-part piece on OUs recruiting issues?

    • RETIEF18 says:

Where was Stoops again? I remember hearing he was out of town for something but I can’t remember what it was.

      • Zack says:

I thought I heard at the time he was out in California recruiting

        • Gary Robbins says:

Was that part of Settle’s problem?. With the Jocelee Lafaele offer, OU is up to 3 JC offensive lineman offer. (Jamal Danley-Scoby, Ms. – East Mississippi and Jevonte Domond-Glendale, az.). Is this a troubling trend for OU to go the JC route?

          • Zack says:

For settle I don’t remember bob not being in town I think they took a picture together at the trophy case or hall? I think they are going for juco Tackles maybe because they have 2 seniors who are projected starters this year. They will need competition for those positions next year and juco guys may be more ready than redshirt freshman

          • Gary Robbins says:

I have to go back to that picture of Bedenbaugh with all those offensive linemen in front of those crystal balls during a Junior day visit. There were 7 or 8 lineman out of that group we have no commits, in fact we have 2 decommits (Weathersday and Waribko). For 2015 we really need to step and corral some more (we have 1) top notch lineman.

          • Zack says:

True weathersby hurt too although wasn’t committed to ou. But if wariboko and Barnett choose ou which i think is highly possible then we will have the best 2 guards possibly in the entire nation. Long way until signing day that’s why I think wariboko will choose ou. And I hope for his sake, that his brother max has a good junior year and becomes a legitimate prospect. He would probably get noticed more if he bulked up and played safety. From what I’ve seen and read he doesn’t have elite speed to play corner but if he could hit hard offers will pour in.

          • Gary Robbins says:

True. I hope Wariboko comes back to his senses. I’m not sure that Barnett and Sunderland are the locks that everyone is predicting. It’s like “don’t believe anything you hear and only half what you see.” The 2014 season and February LOI’s will show who is the best and we all know who that is.

          • Zack says:

Very true. Usually though ou gets who they want in oklahoma. Only reason Cornwell went to bama was because ou wanted Hansen. I am with you on Sunderland though I think Midwest city is more of a ou lean but the gundys went there if I’m not mistaken and mike gundy is obviously more recognizable.

          • vargo05 says:

Weathersby isn’t a decommit. He was never committed to OU.

          • Gary Robbins says:

Thanks, I was thinking about the dt (duVonta Lampkin) who is from the same school I think. Weathersby was the ot who everyone was predicting to commit to OU. Instead he chooses Texas. Another diss on OU. I hope we stomp them in the ground this year.

          • Clint Lenard says:

Stoops met Settle when he was in town, and I believe on both occasions. Settle was there for the big recruiting weekend.

    • Gary Robbins says:

It should be discussed. Both Gibson and Settle related to Super K they were high on OU. But when you spend your own money and the top dog is not there-how would you feel. These trips were announced well ahead of time.

    • EasTex says:

Once again, Stoops was on a planned vacation with his family when Gibson came.

He knew that when he came and if he expected Stoops to drop everything, including a planned trip with his young family, he can move on down the line IMO if he thinks he is more important.

      • Gary Robbins says:

I agree. It seems like Stoops was out of town 2 or 3 years ago and the same thing happened. It must be during Spring vacation for the high school kids.

        • EasTex says:

It was, it was spring break.

        • red clay says:

Bob has earned his vacation time. Coaches hardly see their families anyway.
Maybe a trip to Gulf Shores, Alabama for the kids to play on the beach, enjoy the “sugary” sand har har

    • Jim says:

Same thing happened last year (i.e. Stoops out of town – Italy), and it cost us those recruits as well. Recruits need to coordinate better and not get so upset, but it really sucks to hear how disappointed some recruits are when they show up and get no Stoops.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Didn’t the kid decide fairly last minute to visit the weekend that he did? And he knew Bob wasn’t going to be there. Maybe he should have changed his schedule if meeting Bob was so important. Kids these days.

      • Zack says:

Well and I think that’s part of why he didn’t hold it against ou. Were at #6 on his list and the ones above us will all probably end up having 4* verbals at qb before long. Where Gibson looks to be taking his time I can’t see him committing to a school that already has a verbal from a 4* 2015 qb.

        • EasTex says:

          Excellent point.
Also, as I recall he spent nearly all of his time with Heupel and claimed he had an enjoyable visit.

        • vargo05 says:

Very true Zack. OU can wait it out. Only question is if these other schools will take him regardless of whether they have another QB already committed.

          • Zack says:

Well to me it would be a bad look for the coaches if they already had a big qb recruit and then still recruit another big qb. At some point it would bite them I think.

      • Paul Warfield says:

No. He had the visit planned out for. It was essentially a recruiting trip he took to see multiple colleges within a week or so.

No excuse here. Seems to some extent things are returning to what they were in recruiting prior to the new hires. Just lovely….no wonder Baylor is out recruiting OU right now. They are actually working harder at it.

        • Zack says:

It’s only may and Baylor has 3 guys committed that ou has offered. All 3 stars and the last one committed to baylor like 3 days after receiving an ou offer. I don’t know why anyone thinks ou is being out recruited. Baylor finished 26, 27, 26, and 46 in the last 4 years according to 247 OSU and tech haven’t done any better. Ou has been top 15 for about 12 years now. Come February if ou finishes outside the top 20 in recruiting and Baylor osu and tech all finish in the top 20 then I would say we got out recruited.

        • EasTex says:

The Stoops family vacation had been planned also, and probably for a considerably longer time than Gibson’s visit.

    • vargo05 says:

I’m not really blaming Stoops here. He’s entitled to vacation, just as anybody in any other job is.

  • Zack says:

The AD story is kinda bizarre I’m sure they would try to dump his contract if he wasn’t producing or if they felt like he was a cancer in the locker room. Neither of those are true from what I can tell. I would say if he doesn’t have success this year then they may look to get rid of him but I don’t see him declining this season.
As far as striker if he has a great year and the nfl thinks he’s a fringe first round pick then he should go. Unless he got up to about 240 and still had same athleticism then there’s no way IMO he would move up more than a late first rounder.
Others I think might leave if they have very good years: Phillips, tapper (obvi), shannon if he gets to play, sheperd (doubtful even with a great year), ross (long shot), and Sanchez.

kyle field:the house that johnny built? how about another “national championship” on the facade while you’re at it. i guess there’s still too many people alive that might remember you didn’t win it

  • soonermusic says:

If meeting and talking in person with Stoops is the only hangup with regards to OU’s recruitment, I would imagine they will be able to work that out at some point. No big deal.

  • Sooner Ray says:

I don’t think Gibson should have used the word “concern”. I’m sure he knew Stoops had other plans and if that was the only opportunity Gibson had to make the trip, he should have just said it was unfortunate. I bet they would have something more formal waiting if he makes an official visit. If he doesn’t schedule an official, we weren’t going to get him anyway.

    • Clint Lenard says:

I believe his real ‘concern’ is that Stoops didn’t make sure a bag man was there to greet him. The ones high on the list is my ‘concern’.

  • Jackson1006 says:

1.While I would love to see Eric Striker go in the first round, I don’t think that will happen unless he shows uncanny coverage skills. It’s that kind of talk that gets kids to think about leaving early and that wouldn’t be wise for him.
2.Big fan of Roy Finch but for a smaller guy, he’s top heavy. So more explosive than Quentin Griffin but surprisingly less shifty with the change of direction thing. Just my uninformed observation.
3.Overall, very proud to be a Sooner fan. I can tell the whole community roots for and follows these young men whether they get drafted or not. Once a Sooner, always a Sooner. I hope the recruits see how meaningful that kind of unwavering support can be.

  • Zack says:

Brainiacs we mentioned weathersby earlier how he was seemingly an ou lean. Have you seen his teammate Cordel iwuagwu? I’m asking because he has some offers but no elite program has offered. Is he worth an ou offer and if so would that help sway weathersby?
