FOOTBALL

“That’s OU Football, baby.” – Bob Stoops (SSTV)

I believe the date was already out there, but if you weren’t already aware OU’s game at Tennessee next year has been set. Make travel plans accordingly. (UT Sports)

I have no words.

I hesitated posting this as I don’t want it to appear in any way I or TFB endorse fighting and/or violence, but it’s out there a bunch of different places so I figured you’d probably see it regardless (if you haven’t already). If it’s an issue, I’ll be happy to take it down.

ESPN’s midseason All-Big 12 team. (ESPN)

Proud moment for OSU alum. (The Big Lead)

BASKETBALL

Today is Big 12 media days in Kansas City. You can watch the coverage live here thru the Big 12 and I believe ESPN3 is also live streaming it as well.

Sooners could also be picking up a big commit today as 2015 OK Preps shooting guard Shake Milton is announcing today at 3:30 pm.

OTHER

I laughed way too hard at this. ‘Randy Orton Is RKOing The Entire Internet’ (Deadspin)

I’m going to resist the urge to make a really bad Angry Birds joke here.

Mr. Too Cool For School

I chuckled.

I like a lot of the people in this, but feel like I won’t like the movie.

Fight video reminded be of that time when a UT fan stepped out in front of a bus…

  • Sooner Ray says:

SO…..Josh is just trying to protect his rushing record??

  • Indy_sooner says:

All B12 OU repp’d well. Kicker has to be Moneycutt. Heck he’s probably All American by now…

  • LLAdamJ7 says:

Kinda telling that not a single OU lineman made this midseason all big-12 list.

    • Ed Cotter says:

I don’t take ESPN list very seriously, OU will have at least one on most All Conference lists at the end of the season.

    • OkieRandolph says:

This isn’t really related to the All Big 12 team stuff, but I just looked at the SEC’s full schedule for next year. CBSSportsline posted it (imagine that) and of course they will still just play 8 conference games, AND out of the 56 non conference games, they will PLAY, and I’m using that term very loosely, the 4 hardest teams on that PATHETIC schedule are Oklahoma, Clemson and Louisville twice!!!!! 56 games and that is the most and best non conference games you can put out!!!! You know SEC, you’re a tough league for the most part, but this is ridiculous. And of COURSE, the SEC again schedules pusses in week 10 again, so they can brag about how many of their teams belong in the playoff or bigger bowls, without fear of a loss from someone in their own league. PATHETIC! Maybe the Big 12 should play ALL their conference games from the very first week, and then play the Toledo’s, UAB’s, Lamar’s, and Louisiana Lafayette’s in weeks 9-12, and then hells bells, we all could go into the bowls on at the very least a 4 game winning streak and be in the top 25! PATHETIC, yet, CBS and ESPN will give them a free pass on this lousy scheduling.

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

So…when’s the K-State write ups start? We’re getting no respect from the fans at “Bring on the Cats” page (can’t blame them)…hope that guy who calls the plays free’s the Knight. It’s 9:30 in the a.m., I’m drunk (don’t judge, I work graveyards, which means I just got off work), and it’s a weekish after the Red River Shootout, and texsa STILL SUX!!!!

    • Jed says:

Yeah, they have a pretty strange fan base. Like the guy who wore the Luchadore mask a few years back (maybe still does, I don’t waste my time anymore). It’s kind of akin to the people who think that yelling extra loud at key moments of a game has objective impact on player performance: if K State fans are particularly boastful, perhaps the reasoning goes, then it will make up for the harsh fact that their teams, even on their best days, tend to fall short.
OU is going to have to give this one away to lose. Not saying we aren’t entirely capable of doing just that; but the mildcats don’t have the wherewithal to take it away from us on their own.

      • ToatsMcGoats says:

Sure hope you’re right. Trevor Knight looked great against them last season…hope he has a chance this year.

  • HoustonChiver says:

I think my favorite part of the fight video is the guy who casually walks away while fixing his hat and hoodie

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Do we have a visitor list for K State?

  • OU_Sooners says:

Yeah, I was sitting down and thinking: I wonder if Knight has even run it as much as Heupel back in the day. Nope.

  • Won says:

    Natl Champ Trivia

Teams with more NCAA AP National Championships than OU since 1985:
    Alabama , Miami, Florida, Nebraska

Longest time of duration between OU AP National Championships
    18 years from 1956-1974

    There’s only ONE
OU National Championship in the past 30 years

You are on the clock Bob.

    BOOMER!

    • boomersooner says:

You have been made aware that Bob won that ONE national championship correct?

    • vargo05 says:

So, the years between 1985 and 1999 are Bob’s fault now too?

    • soonermusic says:

I believe you left out Florida State.

Even with that addition it’s a pretty short list. If you take it since Bob’s been here your list is even shorter Alabama, USC, and Florida. (AP counts the voided USC season or it would be down to 2)

Which of those programs would you like to trade ours for? Hmmm….

For me it’s not even close.

      BOOMER!

      • Won says:

I am a Sooner fan so Oklahoma is the only team for me.
Coaches come and go so that is a secondary item. I am only interested in how they produce quality winning football teams.
I would like to see us achieve the goal that we ascribe to year in and year out.
        Oklahoma invented championships, right?
        SOONER!

  • BigJoeBrown says:

That fight video is hilarious….looks like a battle of the douches, RRSO edition.

    • paganpink says:

heheh Douche Armageddon! They couldn’t bring it on the field so the Texsa rednecks were trying to bully our fans getting on their tour busses. Pathetic. Typical douchebaggery from them.

  • Travis Coyle says:

Don’t post fights on here please. So many sucker punches in that fight. Just not the right vibe for this site.

    • Jordan Esco says:

Not planning to make a habit of it, which is why I tried to go out of my way to add the disclaimer as such.

      • Sooner Ray says:

Don’t sweat it Jordan, everyone knows this section is partly just for entertainment. I don’t click on every single video you post and no one else has to either. It was clearly defined so to click on it and complain would be like going to a rooster fight and complaining about the roosters fighting. 🙂

    • Clint Lenard says:

I think if we can watch images of war (death), MMA and…well, FOOTBALL, we can deal with some sucker punches here and there. I’m all for it. It only offends those who want to be offended…then watch it so they can be more offended.

      • Travis Coyle says:

Maybe I should not have clicked on it, but I just thought the vibe was wrong for the site. I have been following Jordan on twitter before he was apart of this site. I have just seen enough human violence to last a lifetime. I wont get drawn into an argument with some random guy on here.

        • Clint Lenard says:

It’s a random fight…with Sooners fans involved. The violence was much less than a typical football game. A bus broke up the fight. I think it’s worthy of posting.

      • CDC says:

He didn’t say he was offended, he said it wasn’t the right vibe for the site. Two completely different things.

  • Swanny says:

Not technically Sooner news, but yesterday it was reported that Boykin had surgery, it was later retracted. Boykin is completely healthy.

  • OUknowitscomin says:

I re-watched both these games last night & recorded stats just because I was intrigued how often we were doing things. I left out both the final few plays of TCU (last second desperation plays) & last set of downs vs. Texas because it was just running out final clock. I didn’t want these small portions to reflect actual game planning because of unique circumstances.
While I understand that flow of game dictates a lot, along with play selection within possessions, but thought would be an interesting summary. I’m not concluding any particular thing here, as it would be difficult without assessing many other factors – I realize. However, thought would be nice for some (with bigger football brains than I) to see the overview. Maybe they will see things I don’t. Oh, before anyone kills me for ‘aiding the enemy’ – obviously opposing coaches are reviewing the same film in more depth. Snyder has dissected 10X more by now.
I chose these 2 games only because they represented significant difficulties we’ve had on O.

Side notes I noticed when re-watching:
    1. While KJ has a few legitimate drops – he’s been unlucky recipient of most of TK’s bad throws in reality – luck of draw
    2. JH apparently is very fearful of tipped short passes over middle – most all of TK’s short passes are out on edge where throwing lanes are less cluttered – making them much longer passing distance
    3. Good to see JH finally attacking edges in 2nd half of Texas with more end around & swing passes. It’s quite successful and would help TK’s confidence getting throws under belt
    4. Rushing to edge stats are potentially a little skewed – as it seemed about 50% of them were actually between tackle designed but RB bounced outside after seeing middle clogged

As a guy who’s had a buddy basically disabled because he hit his head on the concrete and changed his life forever there isn’t anything positive about a fight. Be safe out there folks. Just walk away.

  • ComancheJoe says:

The fight video was horrible! I am offended by how awful everyone’s technique is. I recommend that they all watch the Mike Vallely fight video and schedule a rematch.

Seems like a lot of people are as big or bigger fans of Bob Stoops than Oklahoma Football.
Any criticism of him or coaching is taken as an offense to the football team.

Trevor has an amazing ceiling… I truly believe he might play on Sundays, if things shake out correctly… The entire Oklahoma offense, really is of that cloth…. but Esco, (and I say this with all the TFB love in the world… I don’t need to remind folks that this is the most timely, accurately informative, and rationally kempt Sooners Sports website existent….)… Esco, the Heupel castigations are leaking through your pores to a point I don’t think you’d be knowingly comfortable with, if you had a third-party bird’s-eye sweatband… I am not a journalist, nor am I an Oklahoma football coach… On the other hand, Esco, you are — remember — but one of those things… Your journalism is nearly impeccably… All the same, sometimes a person must have their say on “their bed”, and not on “their feet”… You’re liked Esco… Loved to the point that no one would call for your head on a platter after one bad article, or even after one bad season of articles… Keep writing… Keep publishing, Esco… Sooner Nation needs you….
