Sooners News Daily 10.13.14

FOOTBALL

OU opened as a 12 point favorite over K-State and that number immediately started falling. Currently under double digits already at Sooners (-9.5). (VI)

‘Even in victory, Sooners appear to be heading in wrong direction’ (Transcript)

If anyone wasn’t able to catch the game for whatever reason, here is the full broadcast.

It felt like at the time this was a high school team trying to defend Ross’ KO return. Multiple viewings since has not changed my initial opinion.

If you missed the GameDay feature on Sterling Shepard, it was rather fantasic and quite touching. (ESPN)

How unfortunate for them to have run out of time. Jeezus, be more aggy.

RECRUITING

OU missed out on long-time 2015 LB target Marshall ‘Bo’ Wallace over the weekend (he committed to Notre Dame) and I think they’ll miss on yet another 2015 LB tonight as well. Which, if I’m right, it’s high past time to start questioning Tim Kish’s ability to land top LB prospects.

BASKETBALL

‘Sooners poised to draw some attention this season’ (CBS Sports)

OTHER

Never really liked Will Smith, but Margot Robbie on the other hand….

I was hoping for a gif of the Horn high 5 fail… That was classic!

Dang that Shepard story is tough to watch. Amazing how he plays so much like his dad.

I watched that story right after I chopped some onions. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Pulls at the heart strings. Brought a tear to my eye.
Edited: wouldn’t let me post above. Didn’t mean to intrude on your thread.

I dont think Kish is a bad coach – at coaching. Where he seems to be light years behind coaches like Montgomery is that he doesnt seem to put anywhere near the effort or time to recruit and land the big fish. Montgomery flew multiple times to Hawaii just to try to land Fehoko and this was no short plane ride out there. Monty’s been all over the country recruiting and the results speak for themselves both here and in Michigan. You constantly hear recruits rave about Monty. Never hear them rave about Kish (or if they do, its much less frequent). Recruits love to be given attention and there comes a point just being able to coach them up isnt enough if we want to continue to improve as a defense. Maybe pair Kish up with a younger go-getter who is hungry for a chance.

Did you just say you “Never really liked Will Smith”?

The last two weeks have been rough with all the negativity. I love this site and fell it provides the best honest insight to the OU athletic program. We as fans have such high expectations and are so quick to judge when those expectations are not met. Fire JH, Kish is a poor recruiter, Bob doesn’t hold people accountable, Mike is playing to not lose. There may be some truth in all of that but the negativity gets overwelming. I love this university and it’s sports programs and it kills me when they lose or don’t perform as I’d like them to. Hell, I wish I’d been good enough to get an offer from them when I was a kid but I wasn’t fast enough to catch a cold let alone catch Billy Sims. I guess what I’m saying is I appreciate criticism and comments aimed at showing where improvement can be made but blasting away on a personal level is beneath the fanbase that I hope we are. Just needed to say that! Thx!

I think for a lot of people, like myself… This is the only place we have to “vent”, my wife doesn’t watch football, my co-workers don’t watch or are puke fans. So after a crappy game, we all get to come here and talk about the game. Sometimes it is more negative than others, but I don’t think there is anything wrong with calling it how we see it. There are some major problems, and really not a whole lot of positives the last two games.

      • Randy White says:

Krys, I agree “venting” is important and gives us the fans an opportunity to release the emotions we’re feeling. I’m as guilty as the next guy at focusing my frustration towards an individual because it’s the low hanging fruit. The reality is we don’t really know why JH is calling the plays he’s calling, why Thomas is making so many mistakes and Parker isn’t starting, why the corners are playing off on so many plays, why the QB isn’t running more often, etc. etc. it just doesn’t seem logical to me the coaching staff is just doing this to piss off the fan base or that their not smart enough to put players in the right position to make a play. I do wish the media would ask better questions when interviewing the staff but without the inside knowledge I don’t have the answers.

For certain Jordan Smallwood has the speed to stretch the field vertically at the WR spot. Watch Smallwood on Ross’ Texas kickoff return starting at the OU 20 approximately 8 yards behind Ross and almost at a virtual standstill. He passes the last Texas defender and impedes him and is only 7 to 8 yards behind Ross. That is some speed in my opinion.
Blocking, route running or catching the ball must be keeping him on the bench.

How in the world did the line open at 12?? Against one of the most well-coached teams in CFB???? That’s crap.

An honest question: Given our offensive struggles of late, does anyone think its going to hurt us on the recruiting trail or is it still way too early to know?

Shep’s story on ESPN…for those who missed it…

All in all though, Let’s stop with the comparing of this site to other sites. This site does an amazing job of providing excellent (and much needed) information to all of us, for free. We can all see they work their tails off, and all of us have major respect for the Brainiacs. By comparing this site and community of posters, to other sites and their community of posters (many of which is the same probably) is unfair, and frankly, just inaccurate.

Regardless of what is posted on this site, by anyone that I have seen, whether its a “Rah Rah, lets go team” post, or a “doom and gloom, sky is falling, Bob needs to go” post, EVERY post here has been respectful, polite, and mostly articulate. To compare that style of post, to the style of posts on some of the sites this one has been compared to lately, is almost lunacy. On those sites, you’ll commonly see cursing, disrespect, hate, attacks on other posters, attacks on team, and comments that just plain make no sense whatsoever… That’s not to say those websites don’t have a place, or that they don’t have smart, well thought out comments too, because they do have that also. But to me, there is no comparison here to be made.

I love The Football Brainiacs for what it is, an EXCELLENT OU news site, with a section for comments, so we can all have our say in a peaceful, respectful manner. And this is ALL I have ever seen here, even when we disagree with one another.

The Gameday thread is crazy sometimes, and full of overzealous fans (myself included) that love to comment on nearly everything that can be commented on, whether that is negative or positive, and basically, just share in the emotion and excitement of the game with other fans. Its almost like a giant tailgate party, and yes, alcohol is included 😉 I would expect there will continue to be some crazier posts in that thread, well, just because, lol. But the craziness is still no where near, not even in the same vicinity, as some posts I’ve read on other sites.

So I say, CHEERS to the Brainiacs (and all of its posters!) and thank you for providing a great place for ALL of us Sooners to share our thoughts, whatever they may be.

    BOOMER!

Say, have the comedians who make Shorthorn Network cartoons produced a spoof of texsa in honor of this year’s RRSO victory?
