Recapping Bob Stoops’ Day At ESPN

Image via @OU_Football

I have generally tried to stay away from this type of post since coming on with TFB. But in an effort to help those who may have missed the appearances and/or comments made by Bob Stoops during his many stops on the various ESPN platforms/programs, I wanted to try and put together a collection of what was said for those interested. Spent a while digging around on Twitter and think I got at least the gist of most everything that was said, but if you see something missing please feel free to add it in the comments.

Gotta give Bob this: He just doesn’t take crap from anyone. Doggone it….I’m wearing my Bob Stoops pajamas tonight 😉

  • OmorganU says:

I love it. Love the direct punches at Saban.

I love the direct punches at ESPN as well. Asking people to get his back when he’s gone from Bayless. LOL

    • Jed says:

I’ll take Bob over Nick in a Youngstown alley wrench fight.

  • Jared William Reininger says:

Calls it how he sees it. I have never heard Bob make excuses, win or lose, he stands by his statements.

  • Kody K. says:

I am proud Bob Stoops is our football coach.

  • Travis Coyle says:

Love this stuff from Stoops! Its time for us to go the distance.

  • Eric Hoffpauir says:

Bob Stoops has previously advocated for a change to the overtime rules. I agreed with him then, and I agree with him now.

    • ALXMAC says:

This is the 1st time that I have heard of changing the starting position in overtime and I like it. I like it alot.

  • Josh says:

I wouldn’t trade Coach Stoops for any coach out there. He is a very good coach and an even better man. I do worry about the Bob Stoops “at the end of the day” drinking game killing livers left and right out there!

  • I like Boomer Sooner says:

    2 things:

    1) I love Bob, and I love having a coach that speaks his mind.

    2) I wonder if he’s going to tell that anecdote about OU’s winning as a validation of Texas HS football talent. With that Daylon Mack interview really underlining the importance of recruits wanting to represent their home state, I wonder if we’ll see this program to cast itself even more as a representative of Texas football talent.

Chuck Norris wears Bob Stoops pajamas

  • blaster1371 says:

Well….. They asked and he answered. Sounds like Bob went up there to throw down. Those SEC harlots at ESPN probably will wait until tomorrow to give those retorts.

  • DCinAZ says:

Looks like Bob sacked ESPN as many times as his defense sacked (game manager) McCarron.

  • Billy Jackson says:

Coach Stoops’ comments were awesome. I laughed out loud reading them, agreeing in the process.

My favorite, though, had to be the comment about A&M’s schedule. A bunch of toughies…..Ha ha ha ha! I’m actually kind of surprised he took a jab like that, but it was still hilarious.

  • Sloots_SuckedMeoff says:

Bob Stoops respects all, fears none.

  • KellyB says:

“Stoops deadpans to Saban question: “We weren’t competing for the national championship, so we had the same problem” Instant. Classic.

  • Kyle says:

He was supposed to do a chat today on ESPN’s website but they said he left early. Part of me thought that sucks, part of me thought I’d rather get the hell out of there too and not have to answer generic questions. The way he looks in the top photo is about how I would feel about having to do this crap all day.

All told his comments seem like he had a pretty good day. Good stuff.

    • Sooner Ray says:

He likely wanted to get back to Norman so he could visit with a recruit.

      • EasTex says:

His phone was probably blowing up with calls and texts from Coach Montgomery and he wasn’t where he wanted to be.

  • J J says:

Said it often… I prefer my Bib Stoops chippy. The pissier the better!

  • Neworleanssooner says:

Even though he may have rubbed some the wrong way, I would rather see him taking a hard line than blowing smoke up the talking heads rear ends all day with a bunch of empty rhetoric. He seems to have a hard ass attitude right now. I like it, and it has to rub off on the players. To me it seems like an “us against the world” mentality.

  • Michael Larimore says:

    Sassy Stoops is sassy

  • BigJoeBrown says:

I was trying to find a video clip of ESPN’s First Take with Bob Stoops, Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith. That interview was epic, Skip Bayless was kissing Stoops’s backside. Saying he always defends him, and he is a huge OU fan, meanwhile in the back of your mind you still think of that video clip of him saying….”Bob Stoops should be fired!” Stoops give little shot’s but then at the end Skip said something to the effect of, Coach Stoops I am a huge fan and only get onto you when you lose to Texas, then Bob says, “or anybody else” Then something about needing Stephan A. to help defend OU from Skip Bayless

  • John Garner says:

We’re so damn lucky to have Bob Stoops as our HBC. And we’re lucky to have you too Jordan. You do a lot of work that makes this blog so special. Much appreciated.

  • soonermusic says:

Bob tends to choose his words pretty carefully. He’s more likely to say “I won’t get into that,” than he is to just make something up as so many other coaches seem to be willing to do. Stoops was pretty much knocking it out of the park (if that’s possible in a coaches interview on espn) on all the interviews I heard.

  • Daddy R says:

Man, I sure am happy to see his fire back! Seems like it was lost there for a bit…
One of the best there is!
