FOOTBALL

Oklahoma’s defense has allowed 3,272 passing yards this season, second-worst in school history. If Clemson throws zero passes in the bowl, OU’s defense still will set a record for most passing yards allowed per game, 251.7. (TW)

A Senior Day filled with emotions. (SSTV)

Samaje Perine first ever freshman to lead Big 12 in rushing. (TW)

Troll so hard. But they do have scoreboard.

He was never going to win it, but Boykin deserved to be in New York as far as I’m concerned.

Here we go again.

You don’t say?

I’m sure Art Briles will love this.

Yup.

BASKETBALL

Good read on TaShawn Thomas’ journey to OU. (OU Daily)

Nice profile on OU women’s freshman, LaNesia Williams. (OU Daily)

Oh, you didn’t know Blake add this to his game in the offseason?

OTHER

I’m pretty sure I had the same reaction at the time. Never got the Power Rangers.

This was a complete rip off of a tv show.

Breaking Bad reunion.

state doesn’t troll very well because Switzer was at the casino.

Sad we couldn’t get RIP & Bell a win hopefully they close out strong.

  • CTSooner says:

Has the playoff focus completely diminished the Heisman Hype? Is this group of finalists a big Meh?

    • Cory Reedy says:

I think James Winston and Johnny Manziel have ruined the “Heisman Hype”….when dirtbags like them start winning nobody cares anymore.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

I think it’s a pretty talented group. I do think the focus is more on the playoff right now, but I like that group of players. Be tough to choose who to vote for, IMO.

    • James D-Space says:

The Heisman in itself is a bit of a joke or at the very least the criteria is a joke.
You can be the best player, but if your team sucks then you can’t win. The same criteria applies for the MVP in MLB. Don’t even get me started on the voting bias for both.

    • HoustonChiver says:

“A big meh?” Aren’t these the best players at each of those positions??

      • Indy_sooner says:

I could be wrong, but I think OP is thinking there are no runaway candidates unlike other years, Manziel was a douche, but the kid lit up teams, including your’s truly.. Bradford, AP, Tebow etc all did decisive things on the field.
I like Amari cooper myself but Mariotta is taking this one..

      • CTSooner says:

Every year there seems to be one player that captures your imagination, love him or hate them. It seems to me none of them seem to have a signature moment (ok Gordon, but then was upstaged) that was sustained throughout the year, or they played at a level well beyond any other player.

    • j l says:

mariota has 52 total TD and only 2 int. If thats your definition of meh, I dont know what to tell you.

      • CTSooner says:

Granted it is a great personal accomplishment but he never captured the imagination of the country, there was never an ah ha moment. To me that is meh.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

To be fair.. The OSU SID said the team bus was nowhere near Switzers house after the game..

    • paganpink says:

They don’t drive up Lindsey!? I thought all teams went up and down Lindsey to get to I-35. Of course he was at the Hard Rock near Tulsa.

  • hemisooner says:

2nd worst that’s not acceptable and change is needed. Whether it be philosophies or coaching staff (BJW and Kish)

  • Eric Hoffpauir says:

Am I missing something? Wasn’t AD a freshman in 2004? And didn’t he win the rushing title in 2004?

  • Eric Hoffpauir says:

Speaking of people who need to go, Bowlsby is right up there.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

I wonder if that one guy still thinks the DL is the worst unit on the team?

“Oklahoma’s defense has allowed 3,272 passing yards this season, second-worst in school history. If Clemson throws zero passes in the bowl, OU’s defense still will set a record for most passing yards allowed per game, 251.7.”

This saddens me because the defense was what I was most excited about this year.

    • Glocal Sooner says:

I’m with ya. I suppose he could argue that if the DLine was better, the QB’s wouldn’t have as much time to find receivers…ha. My argument might be if our DLine wasn’t so good, our DB’s might have time to find the receivers. Ha!!!

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

lol no doubt. and most plays when not blitzing it was 3 on 5. double on Phillips and Tapper and that was it. No pressure is coming. If they have bad technique thats a problem, but they are not the issue on this defense. Letting guys go and poor tackling in the secondary is the issue. Im hoping that they improve greatly by 2015 if not, Bobs seat my starting getting warm

    • Bob Edwards says:

Yeah, not sure I get the DL is bad nonsense. Our D was top ten in rushing, both yards per game and yards per attempt. You are not going to get many sacks when the DB’s are giving you an eight yard cushion and letting you complete short passes at will. Not enough time to get the the QB. Also doesn’t help when you are rushing fewer than they have blocking.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

That isn’t the only reason we weren’t getting sacks. I can’t remember another season where we had so many plays where a DL or LB had the QB dead to rights, and somehow missed the tackle, and let him get away. Happened 2-3 times against OSU alone.

Which goes back to another issue I have with the D, we haven’t tackled well as a unit for a long, long time.

        • boomersooner says:

And how many pump fakes where we stop and/or jump? Your a step from him. Go ahead and finish and put you a hit on the qb. You’re probly close enough to not get roughing. I’d put the over/under on those at about 21 1/2

          • Easton says:

It is just bad coaching. In those moments, so many of them, and similar bad fundamental works, I just hate how we have such a defensive expectation, but there are such pissy, embarrassing flaws in the way these guys are prepared and put out on the field.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

I’ll take the over, sir. 🙂

        • Jake says:

They seemed timid when they missed those sacks. Can’t play scared.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

True, but we all knew the secondary could have some growing pains. Didn’t think it would be this bad, but it was.

    • BoomerDave says:

I’m sure your referring to my post last week where I reported that 2 former OU All-Americans and Ex-NFL D-Lineman along with former OSU O-Line All-American Sam Mayes said that the current D-Line was the “worst coached” unit on our team, from a technique standpoint. That’s not saying 1) that they were the worst unit on our defense, nor is it saying 2) that I believed it to be true. I was only repeating what these experts on the position had to say. Then somehow everyone turned it into which unit was the worst performing and totally ignored the intent of the post which about coaching proper technique. Everyone knows without a doubt that our secondary was our worst performing unit. But was that due to bad coaching or inferior talent? I think we can all agree that our D-Line talent is very good at least 5-6 deep. But did they play up to your expectations this season?

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

Perine way over, Shep lived up to what I expected. As for that no one else did. Not even Munnicut who lost his nickname back to Hunnicut. Just the worst season imaginable 6 months ago. I think discipline on the team has disappeared and it shows up in every game from every position.

      • Boom says:

BoomerDave, I understand your intent and thanks for the info. I would also like to hear from these same experts if the scheme determined their technique. I wasn’t a fan of our defensive scheme as it seem to me they were playing gap and reading. No penetration unless it was a pass. Josh is much more knowledgeable from his profession so hope he can shed some light. Tommy Harris didn’t play read defense, he shot gaps and caused nightmares. Not sure that works on spread teams but I like it.

  • kokevo says:

So how long till PJ Mbanasor decomittes? I seen on another sight and heard a few things last week that he was a press corner and didn’t like the way the defense is playing

    • Zack says:

If we make it to around January 15th or whenever the next round where no contact is allowed then I think he will stick with his commitment. (which is somewhere in the middle of January for about 10 days if I remember correctly)

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Hopefully Mike/Bob/whoever is telling him, they dont have the cats to play that way but he will change that when he arrives

    • Jordan Esco says:

That was this site, or let me correct that. If you saw it on another site, it was taken from this site and almost assuredly not credited to this site.

It was probably phrased something like “I’ve heard Mbanasor isn’t happy…” When, in reality, it should have been phrased like “I saw on TFB Mbanasor isn’t happy but I’m not going to credit TFB and instead pretend like I ‘heard it’ somewhere to make everyone think I’m super smart and know things.”

      • Katyboomer says:

So has K heard anything about PJ rethinking his verbal or taking visits to other schools?

        • Jordan Esco says:

We’ve posted everything he’s shared w/ K here on the site. He’s looking around, but still committed. He has some, what I would believe to be legit, concerns but at this point it’s nothing more than just looking.

Could that change? Sure, of course. Things change all the time in recruiting. But right now nothing has changed from TFB’s previous update.

I think people are getting caught up in the, what I would call irresponsible (definite pattern of that over where this is coming from), headline rather than the content of the story. Or I guess maybe those quotes are new info over there. K shared what Mbanasor said weeks ago and has since addressed those comments w/ add’l quotes from him to clarify.

It’s probably best that everyone take nothing for granted until those signatures come in on NSD. Because until that happens, any number of things can change.

      • kokevo says:

I hope you didn’t take that the wrong way like I was trying to rub something in that I seen on another site i didn’t mean it that way at all just asking a question.

  • SoonerBredCD says:

I’m hearing there’s trouble in paradise concerning Mbanasor? Anyone have any details?

  • sooners12thman says:

Awesome! I really like Blake Griffen a lot of Sooner fans dislike him now and love Durant more not me!

  • Jared Tyra says:

Man Blake griffin is so smooth nowadays! Ice cold… I miss that dude in Crimson.

  • Jeff says:

Cincinnati is as bad at West Virginia! Hell there needs to be a exit plan for them dead beats! Suck for Luck didn’t do his job and they bring nothing to the table!
