FOOTBALL

Will Bob Stoops’ staff changes save him? (Fox Sports)

Every single thing about this ‘Big 12 schools swapping colors with their rivals‘ is wrong. Just wrong.

We’re predicting who will be in next year’s CFB Playoff….in January. (ESPN)

Hold on…brace yourselves for this next one as I’m sure it will come as a great shock.

That’s gonna hurt your insurance rates.

ACC > Big 12? (ESPN)

RECRUITING

So much for OU picking up a commitment today.

BASKETBALL

Great win for the OU women last night. (Highlights)

OTHER

Don’t expect this to be the last time either, btw.

Meh.

Cautiously optimistic.

Stephens not committing today is prolly not a good thing for ou.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Probably wants to see who is new position coach is going to be.

    • ALar03 says:

Mike is still supposed to have a visit today still, I’m keeping my hopes up still!!

    • Katyboomer says:

maybe wants to do it this weekend to get the ball rolling while other players are at OU with him this weekend. He sounds like JM with the “be patient” . Plus I think we have an in-home with him tonight, things could change right after that.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Riley is already hitting it this morning too.. Tweeted about a big trip with Gundy today..

  • hemisooner says:

We still get Stephens and love our chances with Patterson

  • ccmosaic says:

I am not worried about the Stephens news. He will be a Sooner (No inside info).

  • Indy_sooner says:

How is this Stephens kid? I know there is a writeup somewhere.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Not really expecting anything today except maybe a few encouraging tweets.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Hoping we get some CB & WR coaching news soon…

  • cheezyq says:

Only one thing could make me puke faster than a UT uniform…and that’s those nasty colors photoshopped on an OU uniform. Thanks eharvey328, you owe me a carpet cleaning.

  • kt-raida says:

Ed Orgeron would have been a fantastic LB coach. .

    • Jordan Esco says:

      Has he ever coached LBs?

      • ME says:

Don’t worry about facts like that…

I saw that someone wanted Viney as the WR coach. I had the same thought that you had here.

        • kt-raida says:

Facts are he did coach LB’s.But I guess you don’t worry about facts before commenting.

      • kt-raida says:

Yep, in the 90’s he did.

        • madbrad says:

So he coached linebackers 20+ years ago and so he would have made a good linebacker coach?

          • kt-raida says:

Yeah exactly, you know these years run concurrent? he’s been coaching 20+ years and have experience coaching at several different positions. He’s a great recruiter and a proven positions coach. What do you think pairings coach ignore and have no knowledge about other positions than the one they coach?

          • madbrad says:

You used the word fantastic when describing his ability to coach linebackers. What do you base that on?

          • kt-raida says:

The HIRE would have been fantastic, he’s a well rounded defensive coach and Great recruiter. Any other words you would like to analysis?

    • Stephen Dale says:

Kish , with another year experience, will be approaching Orgeron status and for much less money……we can all relax ……uh huh……………………………..

    • Jed says:

He would have made a fantastic DC.

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

I’d rather have Brick Haley.. Can’t believe Les moved him to an intern position to bring in Orgeron.. Something is fishy with that…

  • SoonerfanTU says:

I know it doesn’t mean much, but Kiper’s first mock draft has DGB going 18th to KC, and Phillips going 27th to Dallas.

  • Indy_sooner says:

In related news, Blake Bell, Rip and Shead continue to shine in the Shrine Senior bowl. Bell is the epitome of why JH deserved to be canned. I was, and probably still in the minority but I still think he will be drafted as a TE. There, I said it.

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

Not to defend JH.. But 2 things, 1. Bell was so open, so many times this year when our QB’s never gave him even a glance.. & 2. Bell was still probably the best QB on the team this fall, if we were still running JH’s offense, he never wouldve made the move to TE… I believe he will get drafted also..

      • ccmosaic says:

What was JH’s offense? Not trying to start a fight but, I hear people talk about his offense and I honestly never saw him as having a offense.

        • Jeremy Phillips says:

What we ran with Landry Jones, that was JH’s offense, air raid, meerkat, whatever you wanna call it.. That was his offense…

          • Tmac says:

I really don’t think Josh had an offense. Wilson seemed to have a plan and a vision for his offense. Josh just inherited Wilson’s offense but never really made it his own or put his own stamp on it. I can’t remember how many times I saw something that “worked” and then we wouldn’t see it again for weeks, if ever. Even during the Jones era. Too much for the players to keep up with.

          • Dailen says:

I.E.: the Belldozer package… which I think we saw ONCE this year, even though it had proven to be incredibly effective in short yardage situations..

          • SoonerfanTU says:

Why? We did all of that before JH, and we’ll likely do all of it after.

          • Jeremy Phillips says:

Why, what? That meerkat, air raid stuff is what JH was comfortable calling… This zone read, running QB business was Bob & Mike’s doing because they couldn’t figure out how to stop guys like Tebow & Manziel… Josh never coached or played in that style of offense how could he be comfortable installing it & calling plays for it.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

If we’d had LJ we would have been 11-2 this year.

        • Guest says:

          THIS!

      • Indy_sooner says:

That may be true but who was the QB coach? Looking off receivers, progressions and secondary reads… All fundamentals that were missing in all our QBs in 2014

    • Jed says:

I don’t know if he’s drafted, but if not, then he goes UDFA to a very lucky team. Very athletic big man; excellent team member; hard worker. What’s not to like?

      • HoustonChiver says:

Could you imagine the trick plays available with Bell faking a block, rolling out left or right, getting the pitch, and just bombing it down field?! Glorious.

      • Indy_sooner says:

He has good hands, blocks really well and moves easily for a 6-6, testament to how easily he got open. He could very well be an UDFA but there is too much promise in this young man especially if he continues to do well

  • blaster1371 says:

Judging by all that smoke coming from their weapons ol’ Neeson and Kimmel got some bad ammo. Good thing they are using Glocks or they would be working on a jam.

The delay on Stephens sounds like a favorable thing for OU. The fact he still taking his official this weekend and gets an in-home today from OU bodes well for the good guys.

    • EasTex says:

Neesom is an idiot. He equated the terrorist attack in Paris on gun ownership in the U.S.
      http://www.breitbart.com/big-hollywood/2015/01/12/action-hero-liam-neeson-on-paris-attack-us-gun-ownership-a-bleeping-disgrace/
And don’t get me started on the myth of Glock perfection.

      • Jed says:

Not defending Neesom or his opinions but when you come to this country after a long time outside it is a very jarring experience. Although we know that peaceful lives can be led here, our public face is one of insanely heavily armed aggression that threatens to boil over at any instant. Several Japanese companies I have worked with offer danger pay and psychological counseling fo their employees and family members when they’re stationed here.

      • leatherneck1061 says:

Got that right. I’ve always liked Neeson as an actor, but this is just another example of how Hollywood actors should stick to acting and not dabble in politics or anything else of importance. On the other hand maybe we should cut the guy some slack – he’s been a complete workaholic ever since his wife died in that skiing accident…..barely seems to stop for breath.

        • EasTex says:

I am about as interested in celebrities personal opinions as they are mine.
I haven’t set foot in a movie theater since 1989 because of hypocrites like him.

      • ComancheJoe says:

        XD fan?

        • EasTex says:

Somewhat, still don’t like the trigger.
Of course my all-time favorite is the Colt 1911A1 and its many variants, but of the modern designs I am a solid S&W M&P fan.

          • Phil Counts says:

            Colt 1911 fan myself tex

          • EasTex says:

I have a son in law that is an FBI agent and of course he is issued the Glock 22. When they come to visit me or I them, he can’t wait to handle my Kimber with the Hogue grips.
The first time he put it in his hand he asked me what was it I liked most about the Colt design. I smiled, had him place his finger along the side of the slide and told him to pick an object, point with his finger and not use the sights. When he did, I asked him to check his sights. His reaction was “dayyum.” He had no idea it was such a natural pointer.
Plus, for close-in work, nothing like a big bullet that is subsonic. Bad guys don’t wait for you to put your ear plugs in.

          • OohRah Mama says:

Maybe it’s because I’m a old broad, but I’m partial to Sigs. I like the way they handle.

          • EasTex says:

We all have our preferences and the market place cooperates.
But I will say this, I will never put a Glock in my hand or stand next to someone who is about to shoot one. Too many “kabooms,” slides flying down range or striker springs breaking on a loaded weapon.

      • BoomerDave says:

Ignorant. Let’s keep politics off this board please.

      • Brent says:

EasTex…if you listened to Sean Penn your head might explode.

  • Jeff says:

Still scratching my head how Kish has a job

  • Chris White says:

Who is Aaron Sims? I see him and Dede Westbrook talk all the time but I don’t see him on any commitment list?

  • Dustin says:

That’s the same team that lost to South Florida and Arkansas-Little Rock? Gotta love girls’ sports.

  • Mr. Jones says:

Are is there still gonna be a TOP post on weekend visitors?

  • D'Brickashaw Ferguson says:

Chances that Patterson commits this weekend on/after his visit?

  • Mark slavin says:

Who’s the commit that rivals said we lost overnight?

  • Stephen Dale says:

biggest news of the day is losing marquise overton ( Jenks NG commit) to academic issues.. TOS says he won’t sign with the Sooners on NLI day……………

    • Maverick says:

I’m in no way trying to slam the kid, but he looked awfully big (in a not great way) in the pics from the Semper Fi game. Was surprised how un-menacing he looked.

  • shawncturner says:

Didn’t see it on the site, but looks like we lost Jalin Barnett to Nebraska. http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/ncfrecruiting/on-the-trail/post/_/id/64443/scouts-take-jalin-barnett-to-nebraska

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

OU didn’t lose him… neither did Arkansas… both moved on from him weeks ago…

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

new 2016 offer, I’m guessing at safety..

  • j l says:

Does anyone know what the time(not day) cutoff is for declaring? I cant find that info anyway. Id guess 5 pm eastern, but just a guess.

Far as i can tell, DGB has not yet filed his paperwork.

  • Brad Warren says:

I noticed we have parted ways w DT Marquise Overton due to grade issues. Anybody have any further insight?

  • James D-Space says:

Jefferson recruiting Braxton Miller to OU.
I’m not going to post it, but look up the tweet if you’re curious.
Membership truly does have its privileges.

  • Wilson says:

Tony Jefferson ‏@tonyjefferson1 2h2 hours ago

@Braxtonmiller5 this could be you bro … And I was a defensive back… Transfer to OU

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Kersey’s article on Overton doesn’t look good for OU.. To me, it reads like we’re dumping him… & using “qualifying” as a scapegoat..

    • eastoksooner says:

I don’t take it that way. There is no guarantee he will qualify and you don’t want to miss out on another prospect when we need so much help on the DLine. I hope he qualifies but it doesn’t sound like the coaching staff wants to wait around on a maybe, I can’t blame them for that.

      • Jeremy Phillips says:

If he doesn’t qualify.. You just place him in a JUCO.. We’ve signed plenty of guys while waiting for them to qualify before. Why would this be so different..? & from the sound of it.. he’s very close as it is.. That’s why, to me, it comes off as us moving on from him & just using that as an out…

        • eastoksooner says:

Yeah possibly, I just wouldn’t want to wait around on a maybe when we need help on the defensive side ASAP. I’d give that spot to another recruit, but maybe you’re right.

    • bmrsnr says:

Probably tired of getting burned on these situations as well. It is his fault for not making grades.

  • OohRah Mama says:

Re: ‘Big 12 schools swapping colors with their rivals‘…
Just goes to prove Crimson makes ANYTHING look good.

That, and burnt- & prison- orange make anything look bad.
