Happy Friday y’all!

Christian Wallace: This past week Tim Kish has been down in Houston looking at some players and making a few offers. One of those offers was handed out to 2016 ATH Christian Wallace from Tompkins high school in Katy, TX. We caught up with Wallace yesterday after he received the offer. Christian is actually originally from Sealy, TX and recently moved to Katy. Wallace wasn’t exactly sure what position he is being recruited for, but said he believes it’s as a DB or just a general ATH. He’ll actually get a chance to see Oklahoma play up close next week. He’s heading up to Ft. Worth for the TCU game, but also hopes to make it up to a game in Norman later this season.

Jordan Griffin: Most of you remember us talking about 2015 ILB Jordan Griffin from Armwood HS in Seffner, Florida (Eric Striker’s hold HS). I (K) was talking to an Armwood coach earlier this week, and we talked a little bit about Griffin. And while he (the coach) has seen a number of really good players throughout his time at Armwood, he had some really high praise for Griffins’ ability, academics, and personality. The Armwood coach actually said that Striker himself is hoping Griffin gets an OU offer. But hopefully it comes soon because Armwood is a school where the head coach does not permit a decommitment, so if Griffin commits somewhere it’ll be a done deal. Griffin was the player that The Boz loved on film (HERE).

Jean Delance: 2016 offensive lineman, Jean Delance, out of North Mesquite HS got a visit from Coach Bedenbaugh this week. We chatted with Delance and he said he met with the OU o-line coach yesterday at practice. And despite not receiving an offer yet he said, “I’m really loving OU.” Delance currently holds a TCU offer and may very well receive an OU offer soon. He told us that Bedenbaugh wants to meet with the other coaches first to discuss the offer. Jean also told us that Bedenbaugh wants him to come up to OU to meet with coach Stoops, so he’ll plans on making a trip up to Norman for a game this season. He hasn’t picked out a home game to attend yet, but talked about getting up to a game in like it is definitely going to happen at some point this season. He also said Bedenbaugh is recruiting him as an offensive tackle.

Tyrell Jacobs, Kristian Fulton & Briston Guidry: Spoke to Tyrell Jacobs and it sounds like Jerry Montgomery will be in New Orleans today and plans on stopping by to visit Tyrell and a couple other Rummel prospects. The other two prospects Montgomery will be looking at are 2016 CB Kristian Fulton and DT Briston Guidry. Fulton is a DB that coach Montgomery offered last spring. Guidry is a defensive lineman that is currently committed to Miss. State. However, in talking to him, we definitely get a sense that if OU were to get seriously involved he’d be very interested.

Here is a picture Tyrell sent us yesterday wearing “The Striker” t-shirt. He and his mom love the shirt!

Dontavious Jackson: Another player Kish stopped by and saw while in Houston this week is 2016 ILB, Dontavious Jackson. Dontavious said an OU offer still hasn’t happened, but he also said they didn’t practice yesterday so coach Kish didn’t get a chance to see him in action. Jackson did tell us that Kish spent quite a bit of time talking to his coach, who we’re sure was hearing a lot of praise for Jackson because I (K) can tell you that there are a lot of people down here that believe Jackson is the best ILB in the city of Houston. Jackson hopes to make it up for the OU/Texas game. You may recall that Dontavious actually stopped by Norman this past summer. He was on a trip to OSU (he holds an offer from the Pokes) and stopped by Norman on the way back. He didn’t get a chance to meet with the coaches while he was in Norman, but it sounds like OU is getting more and more serious about him. Dontavious is a throw back LB standing 6’2″ and weighing almost 240 lbs as a junior!

Eric Monroe: Coach Kish also stopped by Northshore (Houston, TX), a school always loaded with talent, and extended an offer to 2016 DB Eric Monroe. The talented safety prospect already holds a number of offers (LSU, TAMU, Texas, etc.). We’re not sure what OU’s chances are here but we’ll try to catch up with Monroe soon to try and get a better feel for where things stand. Earlier this week he tweeted out that he’ll be releasing a Top 5 soon and at the time of the tweet, OU had not yet offered. He has yet to release the list, so it’ll be interesting to see if he withheld it because OU got involved.

Mark Jackson: 2016 OLB Mark Jackson out of Cibolo Steele is another name to watch. He’s hoping to make it up to the OU/Texas game as well.

Erick Fowler: You may remember 2016 OLB Erick Fowler making a trip to Norman this past summer for an unofficial visit. We spoke to him recently and he says he hopes to make it up to a game this year. He’s got his eye on the Baylor game right now. Baylor is one of the main schools Erick is looking at, in addition to OU.

– KJ Young’s Nickname: With all the talk about Samaje Perine’s nickname, we asked KJ Young’s father — who had commented on a recent Facebook post of ours — what KJ’s nickname was. He said in high school they called KJ “area code” because he’d catch anything in his vicinity. Loved it!

Obi Eboh: 2016 CB Obi Eboh is expecting coach Bedenbaugh to stop by Southlake Carroll to watch him play tonight. Eboh is a long CB that looks every bit the part of what OU is currently looking for in their CB prospects. Eboh was in Norman for the OU season opener against Louisiana Tech, so there is definitely a lot of interest on his part in the Sooners.

– 2014 RRSO: Even though it’s still a couple weeks out, we’re going to start working on a preliminary list of possible visitors OU will be hosting in Dallas this year. Keep an eye out for it on The Original Posters.

UPDATE (Fri., 9:41 am): 2016 CB Madre Harper made the trip up to Norman a couple weeks back for the Tennessee game. Harper doesn’t have an offer from OU yet, but the 6’2″ corner has a lot of the qualities the Sooners covet in a corner. And Mike Stoops told Harper and his family that he’d be down to watch him this fall.  Our northern Texas analyst, Alex King, spoke to Harper this week and let him know that he is expecting Stoops at his game tonight.

UPDATE (Fri., 10:05 am): We were just informed that Mike Stoops is at Kimball, HS in Dallas right now looking at 2015 cornerback, Antoine Stephens. We mentioned him a couple weeks back in another Open Post. Stephens is an absolute sleeper. Big rangy corner at 6’2″ and will light up a ball carrier. He also has great ball skills.

– UPDATE (Fri., 2:06 pm): As you may have seen in the comments below, Alex got word Bob Stoops was at South Grand Prairie today checking in on 2015 WR & TCU commit Jaelan Austin, 2016 ATH Tony Nicholson & 2017 ATH Jeffrey Okudah.

– UPDATE (Fri., 3:45 pm): One other name to add from South Grand Prairie is 2016 CB Caesar Williams.

– UPDATE (Sun., 8:33 pm): Suspect most of you know by now, but OU picked up a 2015 commit earlier tonight in OK Preps product Dalton Wood. We will have more on him tomorrow, but just wanted to add a quick update here for now.

“But hopefully it comes soon because Armwood is a school where the head
coach does not permit a decommitment, so if Griffin commits somewhere
    it’ll be a done deal.”

The HS coach doesn’t “permit” it? lol. That seems really, really odd to me. Maybe that just means during the season, or whatever, b/c what can he do after the HS season ends? I respect that he wants kids to honor their commitment, but things change. These are 17-18 year old kids. Seems a little “control freakish” to me for a HS coach to have that approach.

    • Super K says:

Armwood head coach believes a verbal commitment is a man’s word and the player and the family should not give it unless they are willing to stand by it. I can see it from different sides personally.

      • Boom says:

Interesting article from Adam Rittenberg from ESPN. He talks about how coaches are looking for the “tweeners” like Striker. With offenses spreading the field, you need players who can play in space. Tweeners are the new bread for these type roles. Often overlooked by recruiters since they don’t know if they will play S or LB. This confusion caused Striker to have few offers. Hmm, Stiker’s story sounds a lot like Whitfield, is he a S or LB?

      • bjwalker82 says:

Of course I’m sure we all agree with that. Still I think getting the decision right is important. I’d rather a 17 year old end up somewhere they want to be rather than the alternative. Circumstances can change and even a coach can leave a school. If a decommitment ends up costing the school in the end so be it. Better to err on the side of the young kid getting to go to school where they are the best fit/most comfortable.

      • Sonny Schovanec says:

And K Armwood’s Head Coach is exactly the the type of coach I would want my kids too play for.

    • JrsySooner says:

The guys bust there butts giving us info and this is all you have to say? I get the whole open forum thing but your comment is just plain common sense everybody knows….might I suggest rivals where a Comment like this might be appropriate….

thanks for the update guys I just arrived in Turkey and its hot as hell…
At security check in the guards screamed Oklahoma. …since it was written on my shirt….it was kind of cool even though they never even heard of Oklahoma

      • cpearc00 says:

What are you even talking about? His comment was perfectly reasonable on this or any forum. It’s very odd for a coach to not allow his players to decommit so his comment for clarification is completely understandable. Stop trying to pick fights when it’s not warranted.

        • JrsySooner says:

just like he is entitled to his opinion so am I
he comes across as if the TFB doesn’t know that kids can change their minds, not looking for a fight just my thoughts…to me you would think he would have common decency to thank them for their efforts first, then offer an opinion…hey but thanks for the input judge..

          • SoonerfanTU says:

Huh? My comment had nothing to do with TFB. They simply told us what the coach does, and I expressed that I thought the way that coach handles things is kind of weird. Has nothing to do with TFB’s. At all.

          • Super K says:

No offense at all was taken bud. I think you started a very legitimate discussion that, as I mentioned, I see both sides of. Thanks!

          • cpearc00 says:

I think you need to re-read his comment because nowhere does it imply that TFB doesn’t know kids can change their minds. He never once references TFB, he simply questions, validly IMO, why a coach would have such a hard and fast rule. The difference between his comment and yours was that yours was completely derogatory and unnecessary, not to mention that it’s completely misguided since he suggested none of the things you mentioned.

      • Super K says:

Jrsy, appreciate the kind words. Trust me none of us read anything negative in SoonerFanTU’s comments. Be safe over there!

    • Doobie74OU says:

Yeah I wonder if that can be a hard and fast rule. What if he the school he really wants to go to doesn’t have a spot for him until late because somebody else de-commits? What if the coaching staff changes after he commits? What if he is planning on going out of state and then finds out a close family member is sick and needs or wants to stay closer to home!?!? The rule is a great idea in theory and I agree not enough people stand by their word in the world today but not sure it is practical especially now in this ever changing world called “RECRUITING”

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Yep, unfortunately, recruiting is a game. The coaches and schools certainly play it, therefore I have NO problems with a HS recruit playing the game as well. They have to.

      • ComancheJoe says:

Could it be that the coach just wants his players to complete all of their official visits before making an informed decision? There are far too many recruits that commit to the first big offer they get, only to decommit later when they have finished taking official visits. I think the coach is teaching a valuable life lesson while also trying to protect his own reputation. College coaches will continue to pour into his office knowing that they will get solid commitments from his players.

    • John McCroskey says:

Agreed. This isn’t the Soviet Union (yet) – if a school sells him a bill of goods and he finds out a month before signing day that they’re full of ****, he should tell his coach to pound sand.

    • Sonny Schovanec says:

Actually it’s very common. “control freakish” ?? How dare a coach expect his student athletes to honor their commitments.

    • jesse says:

What is up with Ryan? I have a friend from Detroit and was wondering why he is not playing.

  • John Garner says:

Great open post, as always. Anything on the McKinley Whitfield front? Gawd, I sure hope so. Kid can ball. It will also be interesting to see what LBs Kish can pull in. The man can coach, no doubt about that. But the question now is can he recruit? Again I hope so.

  • vargo05 says:

Any word on other CB targets? Seems like little out there right now, with Ykili Ross seeming like a pretty heavy USC lean.

    • Super K says:

The guys to keep an eye on is Antoine Smith from Kimball, HS in Dallas…Derrick Baity from Plant in Tampa and OU is still recruiting Jaylon Lane. I think all three of those guys! My buddy coaches in Tampa and said that Baity as an athlete is Gary Simon but more polished and already qualified.

  • Katyboomer says:

K- have you or are you able to tell us who that secret recruit was a while back? I may have missed it if you told us who it was. It may still have to be a secret and if so that’s cool I was just wondering.

  • Brian says:

    Offer Dontavious Jackson already!!!

  • Bluegrass Sooner says:

Dontavious Jackson looks like a grown man in that picture. Is he fast enough to play in space? That seems to be a requirement in the Big 12. I hope Kish and the Sooner coaches can close on some LB’s who will continue to bring some nasty to the Sooner attitude on defense.

  • bjwalker82 says:

    Area code, awesome

  • Jason Rudd says:

Eric Monroe’s film is as good as I’ve seen for a FS, albeit its a short one. Would love to se him in C&C.

  • Krys Allen says:

So, i guess that statement from a current commit during the OU/TENN weekend that basically said more commits coming soon has kind of fizzled at this point. I had hoped for at least one more from that huge weekend.

  • Brian says:

K – Do you think the slow playing on the 2nd CB front is tied up in scholarship numbers? Could we be waiting to see if we get our 3 main safety offers? I know we’ll take studs like Gallimore, Campbell and/or Daniels on the DL and Barnett and/or Wariboko on the OL. That may be the issue…You can never have too many studs up front!

    • Travis Coyle says:

I am not surprised one bit! They have no class at OSU.

      • JB says:

I can’t blame him…if I were forced to wear those ugly as sin uniforms, I’d be a little cantankerous myself. I heard people talking about the TTU unis and how bad they were; I honestly didn’t even notice them over the eyesores that oSu players wore last night. Those helmets were awful.

    • thebigdroot says:

Noticed that live. Petty and classless.

      • SavageSoonerEsq says:

Tripping, kicking and delusions of grandeur…that fanbase and those players seem to excel at that.

    • Buster Rhymes 4 says:

Lol… come on guys It’s football. I think it is funny. Guess you guys haven’t been at the bottom of a scrum. Now that’s classy….:)

      • Daddy R says:

Agreed on this one, even though its Okie aggie.. I could easily see any of my former teammates (or myself) at any level, doing the same to an opponent, especially one as Taco-y as Tech.. Classless, sure I guess. But funny. And definitely not the same as tripping…

      • Daddy R says:

And J.W Walsh has definitely been at the bottom of the scrotum (his)…er, wait, did you say scrum? whoops.

      • thebigdroot says:

Been there and I chose not to take a cheap shot because nobody could see it.

      • lovethemsooners says:

What I was thinking. Pretty funny really. Don’t give a flip about either school, so it was all good for me. Reminded me of the times in HS at basketball practice, when a sophomore’s ball came my way during a shoot around. Nothing was more fun than taking their ball and heaving all the way down on the other side of the court…….or up in the stands. Then coming back later when that same sophomore wasn’t looking, and drop his shorts to his ankles in front anyone who was there. It’s just part of what makes playing these games fun. Where’s the fun in team sports if you can’t mess with people like that sometimes.

    • Steven says:

on an unrelated note, those Tech uniforms were awful and the OSU chrome helmets didn’t even hold up (the polish started coming off at the end of the game).

    • I mean…it’s KINDA funny…just cause it’s against TT.

  • John McCroskey says:

“because Armwood is a school where the head coach does not permit a decommitment”

    Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

    • Jordan Esco says:

Your word is, or at least should be IMO, your bond.

      • cpearc00 says:

No doubt but the practical application of such a stance seems nearly impossible.

        • Jordan Esco says:

Doesn’t appear to be for this coach, apparently. I’m sure there are the rare exceptions (I mean dude isn’t a dictator), but I see absolutely nothing wrong w/ instructing kids to wait to commit until they’re sure & then stand by that decision.

          • cpearc00 says:

Don’t get me wrong, I agree with you in that the coach should instill integrity in his student-athletes, but I guess when I hear such black-and-white statements I tend to think of all the possible scenarios where the kid would have a legitimate reason to decommit, only to not be permitted to by his coach. I’m sure those situations are few and far between, though.

          • Jordan Esco says:

I think people are just taking what was written too literally.

          • boomersooner says:

I agree. There’s no way a coach isn’t gonna let his guys change schools once a coach leaves…then, in essence, that school offering the scholarship isn’t keeping their word. There will always be gray areas but stuff in black and white is perfectly fine

      • Sooner 4Ever says:

A noble concept and one that all should live by… willingly.
If your word is your bond because someone else forces you to, then your word isn’t really binding; your coach is. While I applaud the ideal behind it, it’s stupid policy in action. I could get behind the notion of encouraging his players not to commit until they are 100% positive that they have found the one and only school for them, but the idea that they are bound to attend that school no matter how circumstances may change is just absolutely asinine. What if the coach leaves? What if a kid commits to UCF because it is a good program and he really likes it then 2 months later he gets an offer from OU or Bama or Florida State? Does this coach really think he is benefitting his player by telling he has to stay with UCF instead of going to a school that can better his life?

And making a kid stay with a pledge when his heart isn’t in it doesn’t just hurt the player… what good would it be to have a player on your team who doesn’t want to be there? Do you really think that a player who doesn’t want to be at a particular school is going to put in the tremendous amount of work and effort it takes to succeed at a major football program? Not friggin’ likely.
Encourage the kids not commit until they absolutely certain they have made the right, and final, decision for them – great idea. Telling a kid he can’t decommit once he has – asinine stupidity.

        • Jordan Esco says:

As I’ve said, I’m sure there are exceptions. I think people have taken what K wrote much, much too literally.

          • Sooner 4Ever says:

Let me preface the following remarks by saying that I love TFB, the site and the bloggers. Now that I have covered myself scurrilous attacks by Jersey Sooner…

Of course many of us took what he wrote literally. Literal, and all it’s conjugations, come from the same Latin root word Litteralis, meaning “letter,” the same root word as “literary” and “literature.” In other words, written word – unchanging. It is recorded and can therefore be studied in its original form and its meaning ascertained. So when it was “literally” written – ” because Armwood is a school where the head coach does not permit a decommitment,” that doesn’t leave a lot of room for interpretation. We are able to read the statement and learn its meaning.
One can reasonably infer from the statement that a player who has given his verbal (non-binding?) commitment, cannot change that commitment. The statement didn’t really leave a lot of wiggle room. I’m not sure what figurative meaning you thought we were supposed to interpret from that.
Note – the above statement (aside from the requisite lauding of the site) were made in jest and should not be interpreted as snarky, rude or deriding the site. Some people (say people with hostility due to an inferiority complex resulting from their geographic proximity to New York state) may want to be offended on behalf of the staff and I would not want to incur their rude, yankee wrath. 🙂

I think it probably has more to do with this bye week!
            Urrrrrh

      • Doobie74OU says:

I agree with what you guys have been saying about keeping your word! I don’t know the Coach but I’m sure he knows there are “extenuating circumstances” and this has to be more about giving what I call “Placeholder Verbal’s” . Giving someone a commitment to make sure you are guaranteed a spot somewhere and then shopping for a better offer. As much as I didn’t like what Wariboko did in decommiting from a fan perspective, I really admired that if he was truly shopping around he went ahead and decommited so it didn’t hang OU up with any of these other OL verbal’s they have gotten. More recruits should wait till they are absolutely sure before they commit and if the status quo doesn’t change neither should that commitment.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Even though scholarships are year to year, and even though a coach can pull and offer/scholarship from a kid? This isn’t marriage.

        • Jordan Esco says:

Look, there are extenuating circumstances w/ everything in life. What is w/ people today being so staunchly black and white???

  • Stephen says:

Kind of off topic but I’m really glad OU decided to hop on the alternate uniform train when they did. It seems like a lot of the big match ups are complimented by alternate uniforms, at least in the Big XII. I for one really thought both Tech and OSU brought some good uni’s last night.

Second thought, with the stadium renovations, did anyone hear anything about possibly widening the sideline? OU’s is probably the most narrow I’ve seen and when players are pushed out of bounds it looks like a struggle to slow down before hitting the wall.

    • Sooner 4Ever says:

Are you being facetious about the Tech and Pokie alternate uniforms? Cuz I, and every other person I’ve heard reference them, thought they were atrocious.
I think the best comment I heard on them is that it looked like both teams lost a bet and their worst enemies got to pick what they had to wear for that game. It thought both were horrible. I did like our alternate unis we wore in the WVU game just fine, though.

      • Stephen says:

Nope, thought they were nice. Wasn’t anything too over the top, maybe the shoulder logo looked a little off because it was only one side but yeah, I wasn’t displeased at all.

        • Sooner 4Ever says:

That’s cool. I wasn’t disparaging you for liking them. I was just curious if you were serious because I have heard about 40 comments on their unis, and yours is the only one that was positive. You’re a trailblazer. LOL

      • Lesslie Stanford says:

The only uniform that OSU has that I think looks decent is the all blacks with the matte black with the OSU on the side. Everything else looks dumb by what they decide to do with their helmets a lot of times. They Just don’t have good helmet choices.

    • rphokc says:

let me know your opinion of the az st helmet………..just trying to find if there’s a limit to what you find ‘good’

      • Stephen says:

Are you referring to the white helmet, trident, and gold chrome facemask? If so, those are super clean and I’m all about them. If you’re referring to the black and yellow…abstract design, no thanks. Come to think of it (what I’m about to suggest will never, ever happen) but if they used the white helmets in RRSO, wouldn’t mind a gold face mask. And yes, I am prepared to take the brunt of criticism for that idea. 🙂

    • thebigdroot says:

It took me and my son about 30 minutes to figure out what was on Techs helmets and shoulder. Didn’t look bad but looked cheap. Something an arena team would wear, and then relocate to another city. The pokes helmets looked more red than orange. Sorry neither was my cup of tea. Atleast OUs had some history to them, they actually had hints of Sooner history.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

I don’t think there are any plans to widen the sideline area. I believe the actual plan is for:
Phase 1 (I was told the funding for Phase 1 was in place before they announced the renovation) will include:
      1. Revamp of locker rooms/offices/meeting rooms
      2. Construction of new façade and weight room (which basically takes away one existing practice field).
      3. Filling in South corners and building roof concourse areas.
      Phase 2 (Currently being funded)
      1. New press box and upper-level seating built above and around existing West side upper deck. (the current West side upper deck will remain, but be modified)
Other additions that will take place during both Phases 1 & 2, but I don’t have definitive schedules for exactly which bits will fall into Phase 1 or 2
      1. New, bigger video board on the South endzone
      2. New, bigger video board on the North endzone
      3. Concourse walkways between the fence and the North stadium façade covered and North clock moved to the fence line to accommodate the new video board behind it.
      4. All stadium seating standardized to (I believe) 18″. (This, along with the removal of some East upper deck seating and the additional South corner seating, is where capacity really changes. If the sideline was going to be widened OU would have had to remove the brick boundaries and rows of seats on both sides.)
      5. Addition of restrooms, escalators, concessions, etc.

Also doesn’t hurt that the South Grand Prarie Head Coach is an Oklahoma guy. Brent Whitson, I think he went to East Central and maybe was coach at Shawnee at one time. Always good to have connections. I know his son was once a walk on holder for OU football a few years back.

    • Zack says:

Well stoops said a lot of coaches in texas have thanked him for validating this part of the country as far as high school football talent. Which I’m not sure people were saying texas wasn’t a strong pool of talent but I guess with the texas schools not achieving big time wins maybe ou is a program they are proud of. I would like to know if coaches there are pushing this players to look hard at ou.

Im not sure how many of you have seen this but this is what its all about folks.

I wish more people could see and read about how some of the Sooner players and coaches selflessly put themselves out for others in need rather than just being witness to all the negativity that surrounds our program ( Mixon, DGB, Shannon etc ) lately.

    Enjoy

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

One good thing about having a bye week so early in the season is that it’s easy to revert back to the “summer” mindset…meaning I really don’t give a crap about what’s on t.v….

    • Zack says:

Are there many good games today? I’m interested to see how Tennessee looks vs Georgia and how arky fairs against tamu. I won’t take the underdogs in those but I wonder how close they can make those games.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Really pulling for the Vols, the more games Tennessee wins the more OU will be mentioned in the conversation which only helps our case.

    • boomersooner says:

pair that with beating wv in their house by 12 and bama could only beat em at their home away from home by 10 and we’re good so far, but they’ll probly mention how it was bama’s first game and just getting the kinks out and getting the new qb some meaningful reps

  • Daddy R says:

I found this poll on CBSSPORTS this morning quite amusing….

“It’s early, but which of these players has the best shot to win the Heisman Trophy?”

    “Amari Cooper, Alabama

    Marcus Mariota, Oregon

    Todd Gurley, Georgia

    Shane Carden, East Carolina”

    ________________________________

    Hahahah, 4 choices, 2 SEC. Good Grief…

I mean, doesn’t everyone know Striker is going to be the first defensive player since Charles Woodson to win the Heisman?

We need to get Striker some offensive reps at SLOT.
    Lets make this happen. 😉

  • Big Higg says:

Very likely it could change but that Tennessee win is looking pretty good at the moment…

  • Drew says:

Sooo . . . how many points did we hold Tenn to again? SEC defenses, amirite?

  • Ed Cotter says:

Not sure how he did defensively, but Ykili Ross had 6 catches for 151 yards and 4 TDs last night for Riverside Poly. Poly is now 4-0 on the season.

  • paganpink says:

And (apropos to nothing) has anyone else noticed how many players at Okie state end up laying around the field semi-injured during their games? They either have terrible strength and conditioning coaches or they are deliberately doing it to slow the pace or something. Every time we play em’ they do it as well!

  • Sooner Ray says:

Never thought I would say this but……Go Hogs!

  • Sooner Ray says:

God I hope the selection committee and pollsters are watching the FSU game. It’s early but NO WAY is that the no. 1 team in the country.

  • JJsooner1 says:

Is it me or does this ATM team look poorly coached and undisciplined?

  • boomersooner says:

so, if these scores hold, what happens? my guess is fla st to about 8th, nc st to about 19th(if they were sec, i would say 9th), a&m to about 9th and ark to about 12th. they won’t talk about how really, really mediocre these teams look at times, they’ll just beat the depth drum until our ears bleed

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

After Thursday’s game, I thought this was pretty funny…

  • Steven says:

There’s not really a better place to say this, but WTF Arkansas?

TAMU, Auburn(KSU), Bama (WVU), Arkansas have all looked weak and I’m still not drinking that Ole Miss/Miss State kool-aid. I mean seriously, LSU was getting handled by Wisconsin until they stopped giving the ball to Gordon.

That’s the division where every team was about to be ranked (if Arkansas beat TAMU)?

    Not buying it, sorry.

    • boomersooner says:

What exactly has ole miss done to deserve a top ten ranking? Recruit and sign Michael Oher? And get a movie made about it? And hire the coach?

      • ToatsMcGoats says:

I believe it was Sandra Bullock who pushed it over the top…

        • boomersooner says:

is she the reason they are top 10? i will stand corrected then. i tell ya what. people are gonna think even more of em cause they put up 10 late pts against a so-so memphis and will beat them by more than an above average ucla did and held memphis to 3 pts when ucla gave up a bazillion. ole miss and ucla…and a&m, ark, miss st, lsu, aub, mo, so car are all overrated

          • Daddy R says:

No worries. Time will sort this all out. I heard one announcer yesterday say that at this time last year, Auburn wasn’t even in top 10, and they went on to win it all…

Plenty of football left for the wannabees to show their true selves!!
Just make the playoffs baby, just make the playoffs..and then WIN!

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

By “they went on to win it all…” you meant the SEC, right??

          • Daddy R says:

of course! Isnt the SEC championship the real NC anyway? ha!

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

            LOL!

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

Sorry, I had to make one more…just couldn’t resist:

    • Daddy R says:

One yesterday was WAAAY better, in my not so humble opinion. LOL!! But, keep em coming!

      • ToatsMcGoats says:

Yeah, I just remembered the comment and had to make fun of him for it…It still got a few upvotes, though!

    • JB says:

      Good stuff.

I never understood the hype around Kliff Dingleberry as a coach. He’s completely mismanaged this team, running off 2 QBs and 1 of them being the best QB he had. He’s made bad hires that are jumping ship/getting fired. They are completely undisciplined, racking up double-digit penalties, etc. In a word, he’s clueless. In WAY over his head…

      • ToatsMcGoats says:

Oh, I’m onboard w/you, completely! I would almost feel sorry for him, but he genuinely believes the hype about himself.

  • jesse says:

Why is Ryan not playing for Detroit?

    • Daddy R says:

Right now it appears he is a reserve wideout, along with kevin ogletree. Both have been inactive every game this year thus far….

Personally, with Broyles having as many knee issues as he’s had..i’m cool with him sitting for a while to get back to absolute full strength. Seems like we’ve had a trend in sports lately to where everyone thinks its cool to return 8-12 months after knee issues, when in reality, probably better to wait 18 months. Excited to see him get another chance though! He will somewhere, thats for sure!

    • Zack says:

Even if they hold him out all year he will get another shot. He was a second round pick with a knee injury so it’s possible he had a first round grade prior to that.

  • Daddy R says:

well, so much for the upsets…

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

UPDATE: Charlie Weis is DONE-ZO in Kansas.

  • rphokc says:

ku……..tough recruiting landscape in a conference that might break apart at some point………..wonder if venables would take a chance or be considered………he is considered an excellent recruiter

  • Zack says:

Well wvu got a good linebacker in david smith. We will see that kid for awhile.

  • Sooner Ray says:

If no one else is going to start the rumor………JH to Kansas?

  • rphokc says:

dalton wood commit…….know anything about him?

    • kt-raida says:

I was wondering about this one also kind of came out of nowhere.

      • rphokc says:

te at ou is a nowhere position

      • Zack says:

Committed on the spot apparently. Hadn’t heard this kids name before and I guess he plays running back or qb too? He rushed for like 200 yards in his last game.

        • Sooner Ray says:

Watched a hudl film on him vs. Durant (not much competition) and he looks a lot like Bell playing Qb, also lined up as a split TE and caught a TD. Looks like he has decent speed for his size.

          • Exiled In Ohio says:

Yeah, I thought he ran fairly smoothly. When he was outrunning DBs thoguh, I was wondering about the level of competition.

        • Stephen says:

Ran this by Jordan, but OU is his only offer. That’s a bit worrisome.

          • Zack says:

Yeah if you follow or read Jason kersey he wrote about this kid missing most of his sophomore and junior seasons. The first for a heart surgery and second for a broken ankle. But boulware made the offer and so far he’s been bringing in the right guys IMO so I think they see something special.

  • John Garner says:

Did we just get a commitment from Dalton Woods (sp?) as a TE/H-back? He’s instate. From McAlester.

    • Sooner Ray says:

The coaches obviously saw something that was worthy of a scholarship. I would love to hear an evaluation on him because we have been holding off on some known talent. This seemed to come out of nowhere.

      • Zack says:

I guess maybe he’s blown up as a senior and ou wanted to get there first and so far we are only in on one TE/hback with McNeal. All the other TE we want are already committed. It’s had to have been awhile since we’ve had a kid commit on the spot though right? Maybe the Evans boys but other than that I’m not sure?

        • thedeez says:

Just overheard a couple guys at work talking about him, basically said he’s huge and moves incredibly well.

          • Zack says:

I watched a few of his highlights and he reminds me of a smaller Blake bell. I’m not sure how much studying they’ve done on him but I’m sure enough. I’ve got to say they must like his moxy because he’s not really playing TE or hback for his school.

      • Doobie74OU says:

Not a lot of tape to eval and I’m no expert, but found a article that said he was 6’3″ 230 QB for Big Mac. Had pretty serious surgery and lost out on his Soph year, Injuried for his Junior year and his Senior year he is playing QB and RB because they have nobody else that can. Against Pryor last week he ran for 214 yds including a 92 yd TD and caught a 18 yd TD. Doesn’t ever mention playing experience at H-Back or TE but I am definately getting a Ripkoski feel from what I read maybe a little more atheletic though. Might compare well with Ijalana in size after a redshirt year.

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Nice to see an Okie get an offer and commit! Boomer!

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

Welcome to Sooner Nation, Dalton! Looks like we’re literally bringing the “Wood”!

  • Zack says:

3 of the 4 on this espn championship drive show believe ou is number one. But they didn’t spend much time talking about ou. They quickly changed directions to the state of Alabama.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Shocked I must say. 🙂 Most everyone on the college wrap up show agreed OU was the most balanced and solid team but “spitting Lou” couldn’t make himself agree. Said he had to see how we did against Baylor before he could decide how good we are.

  • rphokc says:

…..how did tfb let the recruit/commit news get by them this afternoon……..no update

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

DeMarco’s going OFF right now! He is the sole reason that my fantasy team lost tonight!

    • Sooner Ray says:

He’s a BEAST! That’s why I don’t have a Pro team. DM running wild, Lofton making tackles, Stills making catches, I just cheer for players and whoever wins, wins.

  • JB says:

Still waiting for McKinley Whitfield to get an offer…
