Happy Friday y’all!

Jamal Danley: Last night 2015 JUCO OL & OU offer Jamal Danley tweeted out that he will be making his commitment decision today at 10 am (central). He also said, “I’ve come to the conclusion that I know where I wanna continue playing football. This decision is strictly business preparing me for my future!” Danley told us that he will choose between Miss. State, OU, and Florida.

Earlier this week, Danley told us he would be taking an official visit to OU for the Tennessee game. He has yet to visit OU, but he has visited Miss. State numerous times. Often when a recruit suddenly decides to commit, it may be because a school he is seriously considering tells him they are filling up and a decision needs to be made. Miss. State currently has nearly 30 commits, and we’ve been told they’re taking as many as 33 kids this year. So it’s not inconceivable that Miss. State wasn’t willing to hold Danley’s spot for much longer.

At the same time, OU may receive commitment announcements from Madison Akamnonu and Cody Ford in the very near future. And with a spot presumably being held for Jalin Barnett, OU may also not be in a position to wait much longer.

Regardless of Danley’s decision, we do still expect him to take an official to Oklahoma if that remains an option.

Dru Samia: Speaking of offensive linemen, yesterday 2015 OT Dru Samia (Danville, CA) was in Norman for an unofficial visit. And the Sooners did extend an offer to Dru. We were able to catch up with him a little on his way to the airport, but we hope to have more with him later. However, even in our brief conversation it is clear OU is going to be a player in his recruitment. He told us, “The trip was amazing, OU made a great impression.” In talking about OU’s chances at landing him Dru said, “I just have to talk about it with my family.”

Our guess right now is this one is going to come down to UCLA and Oklahoma, but again we’ll try to have more with Dru later. Bottom line is when someone flies out to Oklahoma without an offer in order to get one…they’re serious.

Keke Coutee: It was our understanding that Oklahoma was going to take only one slot WR unless the second was named Ryan Newsome. However, earlier this week Keke Coutee (Lufkin, TX) tweeted out a picture of an official offer letter sent by Oklahoma. The date on the letter was August 1st. We tried to get in touch with Keke to find out when was the last time he’s communicated with OU coaches, but we weren’t able to do so. While Coutee did receive an official letter, it has to be kept in mind that the letter, being dated August 1st, would mean that it was likely sent out before OU had received the unexpected commitment (in terms of timing) from John Humphrey.

Humphrey had not only cancelled his trip to OU last week, but had stated he would be announcing at an All-American game in January. So one might guess that again, OU may not have expected to receive such a sudden commitment from Humphrey by the time the letter was sent out to Coutee. But that’s just speculative on our part.

Kendall Sheffield: In case you missed it, according to multiple reports Oklahoma made the cut for 2015 CB Kendall Sheffield’s (Missouri City, TX) Top 12. There was a lot of talk about Sheffield getting to OU for an unofficial in the past few weeks, but as far as we know that visit did not happen.

Amonte Caban: As we suspect many of you are already aware, Oklahoma recently extended an offer to 2015 ILB Amonte Caban (Smiths, AL). We passed his film along to Ace, and we’ll have his thoughts on Caban up shortly. But after watching his film, Ace said he is very high on Caban. In fact, he said he felt it can be argued that Caban may even be a better take than Justin Hilliard (who OU was in on but later committed to Ohio State).

In chatting with Caban a little, he told us that he’s “pretty interested” in Oklahoma. He also said he’d like to take an official visit to OU. Haven’t gotten a great read on Caban just yet, but we’ll continue to try to chat with him and see how things progress.

DeAndre McNeal: Earlier this week 2015 ATH/H-Back DeAndre McNeal (Mesquite, TX) was in Norman for a visit. He texted us this picture:

photo

McNeal said he had a great visit and told us he will be back to catch a game this season. He may not, however, use an official visit because of the proximity, but again said he will be back to Norman.

Madison Akamnonu: Just a quick note on Akamnonu. We were chatting a little yesterday and it sounds like Texas is back in his top group of schools that he will be choosing from along with OU and Texas Tech. However, I wouldn’t read too much into it. It certainly doesn’t mean that OU or Tech took a step back and this one still feels like OU’s to lose.

There is no denying he likes, or at least liked Tech a lot. But earlier in the recruiting process, Tech tried to pressure him a little for a commitment (something OU rarely, if ever does) and that rubbed him the wrong way. Presumably that slight breach has been cured, but OU has definitely recruited Madison as close to perfect as possible.

Jarrett Guarantano: Was recently talking to a friend who is very close to 2016 QB Jarrett Guarantano (Oradell, NJ) and he let us know that Guarantano is working on plans to try to make it to Norman for an unofficial visit this fall. Which game you ask? You already know. OU vs. Tenn. We’ll work to confirm if that trip will indeed happen, but there is certainly intent which means there is interest!

Kahlil Haughton: Stud 2015 safety Kahlil Haughton (Waco, TX) had originally planned on making his commitment announcement today, and many felt OU, and for good reason, was sitting in a great spot. However, in talking to Kahlil a few times this past week it became more and more obvious that he felt it was necessary to take his official visits before announcing his commitment. The particular schools Haughton has mentioned to us as possible official visit destinations are OU (Tenn. game), Texas Tech, and Arkansas.

The good thing is that he has already visited both Tech and Arkansas, after which OU was still in a good spot. Game day experience at OU should least match, if not far exceed, the experience at both Tech and Arkansas. So there is a lot of reason for OU fans to be optimistic about landing this talented safety prospect. The lone concern we have is Haughton’s relationship with Coach Norwood at Baylor and Coach Curtis at Tech are very, very strong. It would already be hard enough for Haughton to tell those coaches no, and with the process continuing, and with Haughton likely taking additional visits to both schools, it’ll make it that much harder. Having said that, we still like Oklahoma’s chances.

Will Sunderland: Sunderland tweeted out that he was in Norman to watch practice yesterday. As we’ve said on numerous occasions, this one is all but a wrap.

Tennessee Game: We’re going to start putting together a list of players attending the OU vs. Tenn. game. We’ve just got to go back and review our notes. But we already know it’s going to feature a lot of top players like Neville Gallimore, Gabriel Campbell, Kahlil Haughton, Ricky DeBerry, and many more.

Ashton Preston: If you want to see some of the best technique you’ll find in a high school cornerback, check out the camp clips below of 2015 OK Preps CB and North Texas commit, Ashton Preston. Since last season, Preston has made tremendous strides in his technique and athleticism under the tutelage of the REAL TEXAS DB guru, Clay Mack. We expect Preston to take a big jump on the field this coming season.

UPDATED (Friday, 10:35 am): Jamal Danley was expected to make his commitment announcement this morning at 10 am but has decided to instead postpone his announcement and take his officials. As we said earlier, he will take on his official visits to Oklahoma. Here is the note he tweeted out:

– UPDATE (Fri., 2:25 pm): Pretty big change of plans for 2015 OT & OU offer Madison Akamnonu

– UPDATE (Fri., 7:18 pm): OU makes Top 4 for 2016 QB Jarrett Guarantano.

UPDATE (Sat., 7:04 am): Nothing earth shattering here just wanted to remind y’all that the team will scrimmage today. We’ll see what we can find out. Also, keep an eye out for Madison Akamnonu’s announcement.

UPDATE (Sat., 12:16 pm): In a bit of a surprise move, Madison Akamnonu selects Texas Tech.

UPDATE (Sat., 1:05 pm, A few scrimmage notes): Not a lot to report but we did get a little something from a friend. Was told there is not a lot of good news, unfortunately, other than there being no injuries. The whole team in general looked “out of sync.”

The defense struggled so much that they apparently had to run gassers. And even though the receivers made some nice catches, there were still way too many dropped balls.

Jordan Phillips apparently took some reps today. We’ve been told the coaches have been holding him out quite a bit this past week (simply as a precaution as they have said they would do), so the fact they are getting him in there now is a good sign.

Also, Geneo Grissom is really taking to that OLB spot. In fact earlier in the week he had two picks, including a one-handed interception.

It sounds like it just wasn’t the best day but, I wouldn’t read too much into it. It’s the first scrimmage and these guys have been taxing their bodies leading up to it. It’s all a process.

UPDATE (Sat., 7:53 pm): A couple quick scrimmage updates/clarifications.

Firstly, to clarify, the defense didn’t have as bad a day as we were originally told. It sounds like they played well in the middle of the field but struggled a little on the goal line.

Also, wanted to add that Marcus Green apparently had one of the two picks on the day. Not sure who had the second. I think Marcus is still a year or two away but it’s interesting that we’ve heard his name a couple of times lately. Heard he’s unorthodox but he gets the job done.

    Holy updates.

    • Super K says:

Bro…Ace is over the moon for your boy caban! He hit me up this morning just raving about him. No evaluator is always right but Ace not only played LB but he also did a lot of film eval for UTSA and coaches so he’s got an experienced eye.

      • Zack says:

I’m glad Ace likes him. There’s a certain name that’s sacrilegious to throw out there but he is one scarey linebacker who uses his dline to stay off blocks like number 52.
I read comments on LT saying he ran like a 5.1 40 at a nike camp but he must have been walking because he is explosive.

      • Boom says:

Be cool to have Boz look at him too. I trust Ace but it would be another view point and have both on a post. That would be interesting.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

LOL. Definitely an info filled one. This place is awesome, and I’m getting stoked for this season.

  • Stephen says:

So, it’s almost as though this whole Tennessee game thing is going to be a big deal.

    • Super K says:

      Slightly 😉

    • SoonerfanTU says:

If we can get Gameday there as well, with the 7pm start, all the recruits…..wow. Atmosphere is going to be electric.

      • Stephen says:

I just want to hear “Hooked on a Feeling” – Bjorn Skifs being played in the stadium after we win this game.

      • JB says:

No doubt that Norman will host espn game day that day

        • SoonerfanTU says:

I don’t think it’s a “no doubter”, but I’m hopeful. Tenn isn’t going to be very good this year, and if I recall, there are some other decent game options that week. Again, I’m hopeful, just don’t think it’s a lock.

          • JB says:

That reply went in the wrong place…that was supposed to be a reply to Ohio State coming to Norman in 2016. That will definitely be a gameday destination

    • Ed Cotter says:

This is going to be one well attended game. I don’t know if the atmosphere will come close to ND 2012, but if it does, the commits are going to be hard pressed not to be geeked and seriously consider a commitment to OU. I am going to be there and can’t wait!

      • Super K says:

Your dude, Ykili should be there 🙂

        • Ed Cotter says:

I sure hope so. Would love to get a chance to see him there as well. My family and I will be coming into Norman on Wednesday Night and I can’t wait for my son to take in the spectacle that is a Sooner Saturday!

    • Big Higg says:

Anybody else thinking we’ll probly see the new uniforms for this game?

    • vargo05 says:

Wait until 2016 for the tOSU game, if it’s the true opener for the stadium after renovations. THAT will be pure insanity.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Dang, they better call in some extra food trucks for that Tennessee game. Lot of hungry boys gonna be there.

  • Jason Vos says:

Hey super K, how confident are you with this Akamnonu kid & OU. He seems to be retweeting everything Tech, and some have said in recent interviews it sounded like he liked Tech lot.
Just wondering why you feel OU is in a good spot? Because it sure does not feel that way imo.

  • Randy says:

I will get a chance to see Jarrett Guarantano here in NW Arkansas this fall his HS team play a pretty good Bentonville, AR squad in Sept I believe.

    • Kody K. says:

Thanks for letting me know that Randy. I’m about a 45 min. scoot away from Bentonville, so I would like to see that game. Do you know the date in Sept.? Only problem is my kid plays on Friday nights as well. Did you get to see when Webb City played in Bentonville? That was a good game!

      • Randy says:

No problem… I seen Sept 19th. Oh, that is cool might have to cut it to the first half so you can watch your sons game too don’t want to miss those ! No, I am going to try to see more games this year tho.. I

    • SoonerfanTU says:

I know they want to get it right, but if they have video, this seems like something that should have been “solved” in a shorter amount of time.

      • JJsooner1 says:

I completely agree but I’m guessing there are interpretation issues that makes this more problematic for the girl involved. Joe is a good kid with zero other incidents, so who knows? Pretty sure every single player on the team is getting a lesson on staying out of harm’s way.

    • Jordan Esco says:

Same thing was reported by multiple people, yesterday. But thanks for posting in case anyone missed it. I’m still taking a vow of silence on this until something actually happens.

    • Kody K. says:

I didn’t see it yesterday so thanks.

  • Josh says:

22 Days Till Football Time in Oklahoma!! A lot of Sooner Greats have donned the number 22 so this was a fun one today. From the only All American to wear that number way back in 1946 Plato Andros to Carl Dodd a HB during the 47 game win streak this number goes way back in Sooner history. Great running backs like David Overstreet, Marcus Dupree, and Roy Finch all have their place in Sooner history. Great defenders like Keenan Clayton and one of the best names Coach Stoops has ever had to pronounce in Chijioke Onyenegecha have also worn #22. But the player I chose today had over 3700 rushing yards in his career and almost 5000 All Purpose yards, he was a small(pun intended) factor in the Sooners winning the 2000 National Championship, and if I’m not mistaken… yes… he did just score Another TD against tu… The Quiet Assassin… Quentin Griffin. Boomer!!

  • Doobie74OU says:

This just in: The Norman Fire Department is threatening to close down the OU Memorial Stadium sideline for the Sept 13,2014 game vs. Tennessee due to overcrowding!

    • JJsooner1 says:

      Doob! Smh…..too funny!! +100.

    • Gary Robbins says:

Unbeievable at last count I had 14 visits. Where will they sit everyone? Don’t most of the recruits bring parents or friends with them.

  • Kody K. says:

Ashton Preston does a great job of cutting off the routes. Seems like he should be on the same value level at corner that Sunderland is at safety. So what’s holding bigger schools back on this kid?

    • cpearc00 says:

Was wondering the same thing. What’s his size?

      • Doobie74OU says:

        Ashton Preston – 5’11” , Weight : 179lbs, 40yd Dash : 4.51, Vertical : 36.5″, Bench Press : 260lbs, Squat: 390lbs

        • cpearc00 says:

Not a bad frame at all. I loved his film and wouldn’t at all mind seeing him in crimson and cream in the next few years.

          • Doobie74OU says:

Yeah not inconceivable that he could be 6′ – 6’1″ and 185 to 190lbs by the time he was to get to OU! Its sad but it hurts these kids being late bloomers as K was saying above a lot of big schools already have their targets in mind or verbal’s from CB by the time they show up on film. Hope he has done enough to stay on peoples radar and he will if K has anything to do with it because he has been on top of this story since Preston was invited to Texas’ Junior Day (Super K wrote about him on Feb 22nd)

      • vargo05 says:

I’m assuming that too, but he’s not that darn small. He and another OKPrep kid, Markale Moses, are both slightly smaller guys who can really cover. Moses is committed to Army at this point.

    • Super K says:

He’s a late bloomer. As his film this year starts to match up with his actual ability and this past summers camp performances…he’ll get more offers. He has beautiful feet. And is reading the receiver well. Really love watching good CB play.

  • JJsooner1 says:

Great to see James Hanna still catching TD’s. The announcer brought up the 80 yarder vs OSU!! I remember watching that play and wondering who in the heck it was, running away from the DB’s like a gazelle!!

  • jmac45 says:

    Ashton Preston = Dayum! 🙂

    • Super K says:

I said the same thing when his daddy texted me the video last night

      • jmac45 says:

Somebody put some lights on that kids feet. Kid obviously has his eyes right, and tech beyond his years, but man, when he starts moving those feet and rolling those hips – he’ll give all those ole man to man secondary coaches a boner. 🙂

  • Jordan Esco says:

Still no word from Danley at the time I’m posting this (in case anyone was wondering)

    • Jim says:

postponed. will take his visit to OU. That sounds like good news to me.

      • Kody K. says:

Considering the cancelled trip, that’s great news. The only reason I’d hate to lose him is I’m pretty sure a good Juco guy can help us next year with the seniors leaving. It will give the younger talent more time to catch up. Other than that reason, it wouldn’t kill me to lose Danley.

  • Brian says:

    https://twitter.com/TheFbBrainiacs/status/497548068301336576

Is this talking about the freshman class that just got on campus? Or about the 2015 recruiting class?

  • Josh says:

Great clips of Ashton Preston. Kid has very quick feet and good hips. Great technique for a high school player. Does a lot of the little things. Uses the sideline very well to defend against inside routes, great t plant allows him to break quickly, outstanding job of getting his head around and looking for the ball and anticipates routes very well. Impressive!

    • Kody K. says:

If I was forced to give a critique, there is only one thing to really mention from the drill footage. He let some of the receivers get behind him a step or three on the streak routes. That’s pretty typical though.

      • Thomas Lenard says:

I noticed that as well, but i also noticed he had great recovery speed when he did lose that step or three. This kid will get D1 offers before his senior season is out.

      • vargo05 says:

Noticed that as well, but he seemed to do a pretty good job of recovering and stopping the play.

  • Jim says:

So Danley has delayed his decision. That has to be a good thing.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Danley delaying his announcement, will visit for the Tenn game. Update to post soon

    • Boom says:

It was my post that made him think it over.

    • Gary Robbins says:

That’s great news. His decision is a business like deal. Need to check out the business before he signs on-hopefully.

    • Doobie74OU says:

Visiting OU for Tennessee game and Mississippi State for the Auburn Game, of those two OU has the better chance to put on a show. If he officially visits Florida I hope it is for the Sept 20th game vs Alabama!

  • Zack says:

So does my prediction of less than 5% technically count?

  • Josh says:

I’d also like to announce at this time that I’ll also be taking my official for the Tenn game as well also… where’s that food truck?

  • Gary Robbins says:

A little help. I was reading somewhere about official scholarship offers. A recruit can be offered at any age but an official scholarship can not be sent out till August 1st of his Senior year. Does this make sense?

    • Jordan Esco says:

Not sure the exact date per se, but you’re definitely right on no official offer until their senior year.

  • blaster1371 says:

So…. How does Will Sundrland compare to Jamielle Johnson, the safety that recently decommitted from OU?

    • Zack says:

I don’t think either have great highlight films available but I’ve been hard on Sunderland until recently. I read he had 100 tackles and 5 ints last year which are good numbers. Also mark Rodgers who you may or may not care for has said he is one of the most impressive looking high school athletes he’s ever seen. So I think that’s what they see in Sunderland and they hope they can coach him to maximize his potential which is high.

    • Super K says:

I know it’s not a popular opinion with the OU fan base but Sunderland doesn’t have the film in my eyes or anyone’s eyes we’ve had look at it (Tony Jefferson and Chris Trulove). We’ve also had a couple guys that we trust see him in person and they also had serious questions. He definitely looks the part and hopefully it’ll all come together on the field this year. Again, it’s just an opinion.

      • Gary Robbins says:

Maybe he needs a little Mike Stoops in his ear. He is probably required to visit the OU campus once a week-must be having his mail forwarded to Headington Hall

      • Kody K. says:

Let’s just say your correct about Sunderland. What do you think experts like Mike Stoops and Urban Meyer are seeing to covet him so highly that the other pundits aren’t? And I hope your not going to say it’s because he’s such a perfect athletic specimen to look at with all the tangibles.

        • Super K says:

Offers in the recruiting world are often about timing as much as they are about talent. My guess is OU and OSU were both looking at Sunderland early and he definitely looked the part. Neither wanted to be the last to offer a kid who looked so impressive physically and who, I suspect, they believed would continue to develop. So they offered. When you get both in-state offers you’re going to be visited by a lot of coaches. Sunderland’s tOSU offer was initiated by coach Chris Ash who was at Arkansas and knew of Sunderland while he was down here. I’m not going to speak to why he offered but I will say this…one of the few reasons a top player in the country shouldn’t have 10+ major offers is that they were discovered late and boards are full. Sunderland isn’t a case of a player who was discovered late…he’s been known in the recruiting world for a long time and was visited by a number of schools that did not offer. He currently holds 7 BCS level offers. I don’t put a ton of stock in offers because I know there are reasons players don’t get offers (grades, late discovery, lack of in-state offer, outside recruiting territory, etc.) so I won’t hold that against him. I only point that out because you mentioned offers he does have.

          • Kody K. says:

Thanks for the explanation. But, I was under the impression Mike was still courting Sunderland extremely heavy. Seems if he regretted the offer he’d stop pursuing so much and just let the offer dangle.

          • Super K says:

I don’t think he regrets it at all. Just saying why I think the offer may have happened earlier and perhaps being part of the reason for Sunderland’s popularity. If people like what they see on his film that’s great. I just disagree.

          • Kody K. says:

Yes, and the subjectivity is what makes it so interesting. It would be no fun if all the 5* recruits and 2* recruits lived up to their billing.

        • Zack says:

I don’t think he’s a bad player I just think he’s raw for a guy who when compared to whitfield is considered “polished” but I plan to go watch the kid in person especially if the play pco or yukon and see what I think then.

          • Super K says:

Yeah McKinley is extremely raw. But he’s a dang football player. Wait till a DB coach and an S&C coach get their hands on him. I still smile when I think about him telling me that he prepared for the 40 by watching YouTube videos and trying to mimic what he learned.

      • Jason Vos says:

Even if Sunderland does not make the greatest safety, I’d bet he’d make one hell of a LB

        • Zack says:

Especially if you buy the fact that mike stoops thinks whitfield is a linebacker. They basically have the same frame but Sunderland may be able to add weight better/easier.

          • Kody K. says:

Looks to me like Whitfield has the frame to add more #’s.

          • Zack says:

I agree he does but how easily who knows. He does also play basketball so they tend to not bulk up as much.

          • Boom says:

Love it when they play basketball as it just exploits their athletisim that much more. If Whitfield gets the offer and becomes a sooner, he will weigh about 210 and a redshirt year would make him more of a beast he is now. Look at LB Alexander, he was 198 and wasn’t a true LB in HS but he’s 227 now. It’s an open post so Whitfield has to be mentioned early and often.

          • Zack says:

Good point I still think he would be a hell of a safety.

          • EasTex says:

I think he will be a star regardless of the position.

          • Boom says:

agree. He’s just a football player and let the chips fall where they may. Look at Lane Johnson, they found a fit and he was a first rounder. Find football players, not body builders.

  • John Garner says:

Thanx again! The Open Post is such a great read. Do you ever get a chance to talk to Gallimore and gauge his feelings about OU?

  • Omega Man says:

    Josh Wariboko??? totally out??

    Omega

    • Zack says:

      Huh?

      • Omega Man says:

I’m reading into the above updates concerning offense of lineman being recruited. They mentioned Barnett and state that they are holding one place open for him. I take that to mean Wariboko is out

        • Zack says:

Oh ok. Well yes if these other guys commit (Danley, ford and akamnonu) that would put them at 5 and I can only see 6 max this year.
So maybe you’re reading it right but if he chose tomorrow he wanted to go to ou then I think we take his commitment.

          • Chase Korenek says:

That’s the way I read it Zack, I don’t think OU is telling anyone “No” it just depends on who pulls the trigger first and commits. By the way haven’t talked to ya on here in a while, I’ve been busy with work but great call on Caban, from his video he looks better IMO than alot of 4/5 offers out there. But it’s like we all say if Caban gets a handful more offers from top-tier D1 schools his star rating will “mysteriously” jump to a 4 or 5 🙂

          • Chase Korenek says:

That’s why I’ve never paid attention to “star ratings/rankings”, and the more I think about it, it really is a joke. If a player has offers from “smaller/lesser known” programs he’s a 2/3 star, if he has offers from Bama, Florida State, Ohio State, etc. the exact same player regardless of ability is automatically a 4/5 star player.

          • Zack says:

Exactly and trust me I think Alabama may get on this kid soon so that’s why I said a few weeks back let’s go get him. At first I thought Alabama would pass on him because they had a commit from a linebacker and had either hit their number or were looking at other offers. But they lost that commit last week or so and now I think Caban is about to take off.
And yes the stars aren’t always accurate. I’ve said this before but in the Super Bowl this year there were about 28 players for Seattle and Denver who were 2 stars or less.
Orso was a 2 star until late in the recruiting cycle I think he got his 3rd star on the last release of rankings for rivals.

          • Chase Korenek says:

To be honest I’m surprised more top-tier schools haven’t offered him already.

          • Zack says:

I really think it’s uncharted waters lol.

          • Chase Korenek says:

            haha true

          • Gary Robbins says:

Speaking of linebackers, that seems to be a real concern to me at present time. OU seems to solid at the other positions or in good shape with recruits. I don’t seem to be reading that tone of confidence when it comes to 2015 linebackers.

          • Zack says:

Totally agree I’m not overly concerned but I want to see at least a couple linebackers commit soon. The good thing for ou is that they haven’t missed yet on their top targets so when the dominos start to fall who will pick ou? and I think there’s a couple guys who could be “too short” but that ou likes the way they play those being david long from ohio and the griffin kid from strikers high school. I don’t think we should be waiting and seeing what long, griffin and whitfield look like this season since there have been 0 linebackers committed.

When I say too short I don’t mean I think they are too short but it appears ou wants legit 6’2 and taller at linebacker.

          • Eric Hoffpauir says:

It’s awesome that the Brainiacs tend to describe the qualities of the player they are talking about, rather than using a star ratings shorthand as a descriptor. Much more helpful and accurate for the fans.

          • Zack says:

I hate the stars system but I do get excited when we land the highly rated kids. However I think Kenneth Mann and tyrell Jacobs are better than the stores indicate. Rivals has them as 2 stars but I wonder if that will change now that they both have committed to a school who used 4i tech guys which is what they are.

          • Doobie74OU says:

Yeah stars can’t/don’t take into account system fit at all! For most schools the two guys you mentioned probably would be considered “tweeners” but they are perfect fits for the 30 Front scheme that OU is is using! Love that we go them both!

  • Jordan Esco says:

If Danley is gonna wait, doesn’t look like Madison Akamnonu will be. See latest update.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Dang I hope he gets cleared before season, he will demand double coverage which will open up the slot and tight ends and help create running lanes.

  • Jordan Esco says:

    could’ve had Haughton & Danley today……smh

    • Mr. Jones says:

A commitment from Akamnonu sure would make it easier to wait for Danley though.

      • Jordan Esco says:

Well, I think Orlando Brown making it in and Josiah St. John getting a redshirt for last year makes Danley less of a need. BUT he’d still be an important piece since OU is losing both OTs next year.

  • Chase Korenek says:

Hey brainiacs I want to ask before I forget to….what’s the word on the progress of Stanvon Taylor. I was really hoping to see some better production out of him already as there were a lot of people including myself thinking he could lock down a corner spot very early. Is he just not grasping the defense? The speed of the game? What have yall noticed from practice etc.?

  • Kody K. says:

I’m placing my bets right now that Madison commits to OU tomorrow! I love it when recruits announce a time to commit. Love the suspense.

  • Jed says:

    Dear Mr. Akamnonu,
Please bring your badassery to Norman. We look forward to watching you rag doll opponents. Sincerely,
    Sooner Fans

  • SoonerinLondon says:

So what’s the prediction for the lovely and talented Madison Akamnonu?

    • Doobie74OU says:

Well I’m going to say OU based on Jordan Esco saying below that Danley was going to commit to OU today (his sources are usually really solid & confirmed before he puts anything in writing) but decided to wait. I think Akamnonu saw that and wanted to lock down his spot “SOONER” rather than later! OU could be done at OL really any day! They have 2 already & Ford & Barnett could commit anytime leaving 1 and at Max 2 spots left. Danley, Wariboko, Lafaele, Rankin, & Richmond have all expressed real interest in OU. A lot of OL not many spots I think Akamnonu is jumping on the Sooner Schooner! JMO but hoping!

      • Kody K. says:

I truly think we take 7 O-lineman this year. I think the number of scholarships will be there. Talent is too good this year if we can get the right commits. Then redshirt them all unless a stud emerges. Not all the players will progress to see the field. That’s why we need a greater pool of players to better our chances of getting some All Americans. We really need good depth up front to compete for championships year after year. I think the “light bulb” finally turned on in Norman again. Stoops is creating a recipe for big trophies.

    • Zack says:

I’m not sure when it comes to ou and tech I normally would say we win the commitment hands down. Not sure though with this kid because I felt haughton would have committed to tech today. All I know is the game in Lubbock better be circled and we better beat them so bad the fans are gone with 4 minutes left in the 1st quarter.

  • Doobie74OU says:

Regarding the OU vs Tennessee game and all the recruits that will be there, all the Sooners should heed the message of “The Shepard’s Prayer” (Alan Shepard) “Dear Lord! Please don’t let me screw this up!”

  • Kody K. says:

Could Keke Coutee have been offered as a defensive back rather than a receiver at OU. I know Texas had recruited him as a corner.

    • Zack says:

Good question but as a corner how good is he? He seems like he runs good routes but so did jordan Thomas who ended up here on defense.

      • Kody K. says:

I’m not sure, most of his film is at receiver. But I do know Texas officially offered him as a corner. Seems to me the Sooners have better receivers on the board to be offering him this late at that spot. Being were only taking a couple.

        • Zack says:

Well he’s had an offer for quite awhile but they just sent out all of their official offer letters. I believe gary possibly said that they can’t officially offer until august first.

  • jonnyBgood says:

No offense to North Texas but what is Preston doing committing to them? Is this a kid that is just starting to come on the scene or what? Half of those highlights it looks like he was the one running the routes. Physical off the line, great hips and more than adequate closing speed. Look, I am no recruiting guru but those type of skills just jump off the screen and surely some of the higher level schools (clears throat) are giving this kid a look. I know nothing is official until signing day but I was just hoping you could provide some insight on where you think he ends up playing ball at…thanks as always

    • Sooner Ray says:

What usually happens is a kid is playing ball and not getting calls and letters because he is an unknown nationally and his coach knows someone and tells them he’s got a good athlete, a school, like North Texas, hears about him and offers. The kid is so excited that a D1 school wants him on scholarship he commits right away. Later he reevaluates his decision when bigger schools start getting the word.

    • Super K says:

His jr film isn’t where it needs to be but he’s worked extremely hard and is starting come into his own. He’s done really well at camps this summer and schools like Texas and Louisville are waiting to see him put it all together in game situations this fall.

  • Zack says:

This is how you put out a top 4. Not even started his junior year of football and he’s narrowing his choices to 4. Hats off unless it’s an ou one of course

    • DCinAZ says:

      Jarrett ain’t messin’ around.

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Already down to four? That’s refreshing.

    • Clint Lenard says:

This list will change as more big schools offer him. 2016, so he’s going to get plenty more offers.

      • Gary Robbins says:

Probably, but he has already got 23 offers. The top 4 he listed are some of the best in the country.

      • Zack says:

It’s possible there’s some big schools out there that haven’t offered.

        • Clint Lenard says:

LSU, USC, Florida are just 3 that I can remember not seeing. But he didn’t have that many compared to most high ranking QB’s. I just don’t buy into kids narrowing down schools this early with so many schools left to offer. Most QB’s are going to want to take unofficial visits to places like LA, Florida, Oregon, etc. – especially a kid from Jersey.

          • Zack says:

I agree about more offers could make it different but I’m sure all those schools have seen the kid and either they don’t think he would go to the west coast or they have their eye on someone else. And if I were a kid being recruited I would want my 5 officials even if I had a favorite school since it’s a once in a lifetime experience. But QBs are different if you look at the top 20 pro style for 2015 they’re all committed and haven’t taken any officials yet. And most of the dual threats are committed to. Now i expect some to flip but for the most part I think they are done.

      • ToatsMcGoats says:

Yeah, but after OU wins the natty this season, it’ll be narrowed down to the ONLY ONE….

    • cpearc00 says:

I like this kid a lot. He can certainly toss the pigskin and he has above average wheels. Will definitely make a good fit in our pass first dual threat system.

    • lovethemsooners says:

While it’s obviously good news we’re in his “top 4”, it’s way early. Like that kid Haughton we are recruiting, he only gets to enjoy this process one time. He should take care of business on the field this year, take all 5 of his available visits(even if he has only 4 schools he’s interested in, what would it hurt to take in the atmosphere of another big time program), then make his decision.

Maybe he could go visit Texas as his 5th school, so he could quietly chuckle at the size of their trophy case.

  • Ed Cotter says:

Hey, not too bad making the Top 4 for Jarrett G. Wonder if he would commit early, say next Spring. You never know.

  • blaster1371 says:

Out of the new guys on campus Frison seems to be shaping up to be Trent Williams-like in that he could be a four year starter. All that to say I’d rather see OU get HS players rather than the JC type to give them time in the system before being needed for depth. If this JC player has Phil Loadholdt written all over him then that is of course an exception.

  • Wilson says:

What took me so long to find this site? People are actually talking football! I’m sitting on pins and needles to find out if this defense can really stop the run. When I go back and watch old games, being an old LB, it is just painful to watch.

    • Boom says:

Welcome Wilson. Best site for not only the insight from the TFB’s but a great group of posters who know football x’s & o’x. There are coaches who join and provide their expertise. It’s awesome so come along for the ride.

      • Wilson says:

Love the strategic aspects of the game. Going to be interesting to see this defense in action and wrinkles coach Mike and crew add to the game plan. It will also be interesting to see how JH’s play calling and schemes have evolved.

      • Doobie74OU says:

Don’t forget one of my favorite things about TFB! Evaluations by people who know how to play the game! Not just computer geeks putting info in a computer and saying 3*,4*, or 5*. They have had Brian Bozworth and Tony Jefferson write articles in the last month! Wilson you will love the ride you have embarked on today! (or yesterday now lol)

    • Sooner Ray says:

Finally, you filled the last spot we have available. There is no prize for that but welcome aboard. 🙂

    • Doobie74OU says:

Just going to throw my 2 cents in based on some quick math! This 3-4 scheme w/ smaller MLBs that we have seems to only work against the run if the big boys can eat up blocks and keep OL off our LBs, but last year our DE seemed a bit light. They avaeraged 6’2.75″ & 248lbs. This year however the players listed as DE average just over 6’3″ & 269.5lbs. Add to that they have been playing guys like Walker, Phillips, & Ndulue (who are listed as DT) at DE on running down and that bumps the average up to 6’3.5″ & 297lbs. Much improved over last year! I think if the DL keeps the LBs clean they will do pretty good at stopping the run and conversly if a OL gets on one of our MLB who average about 6’2″ 227lbs it will mean trouble. Also think moving guys like Grissom & Favors to OLB from DE (who both weigh a little over 250) will help them on the run as well. Just my opinion but it seems pretty coherent for as tired as I am. LOL!

      • Doobie74OU says:

Sorry that turned into a Novel (really long)

        • Wilson says:

Agreed. Not to mention the 34 is primarily a two gap defense, although you can employ a one gap strategy. The LBs had a few problems reading the correct gaps, proper angles and disengaging from lineman that successfully climb to their level. Which can be especially problematic with slow reads and false steps.

          • Doobie74OU says:

Yeah I agree! Hopefully the move for Grissom and Favors will let them highlight that athleticism by getting them away from taking on 300+lb OT physically!

        • JB says:

Don’t apologize for novels! Say what you have to…good stuff

      • JB says:

They have a year of learning, improved size & strength…all of which helps. Moving Grissom to OLB will help improve physical play in stopping the run. But the biggest improvement will be getting Jordan Phillips back at nose. Wade & Peterson & Ndulue are all good players, but Phillips is a dominant player that ties up 2 OLs every play. That alone will make a substantial improvement on defense.

One negative though…if the speculation in the local radio & news media is correct, then losing Frank Shannon will hurt.

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Welcome! TFB is hands down the best place to discuss OU football (or just football in general) out there.

    • Chase Korenek says:

Welcome Wilson, glad to have another sooner on the best sooner football site!

    • Jordan Esco says:

      welcome!

  • Baron Boomer says:

Please let the new OU foodtruck be decked out like the Sooner Schooner! 🙂

  • Mike Reed says:

A couple of interesting videos….I will say that I watched these guys talk about the Sugar Bowl before the game was played and they were betting on OU to beat Alabama, according to their algorithms….

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWEMK4_xLPA

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGQtWisXTvs&list=UUU5R3m5mJIIIQpg1S7I7kcA

    • Baron Boomer says:

“Bob Stoops does not have a good recent record against TeXsa”…

      Hmmm

    • paganpink says:

It’s really more of a statement about OU versus the spread and the reduced chance of beating the spread (regardless of who actually wins the game) when expectations are high and the spread becomes so large. That is certainly true and it’s true for any team highly favored by betters. However, he then lost me at dismissing our chances of bettering an 11 win season this year by beating Texas because “Stoops does not have a good record against them recently” Coach Stoops is not just 9 and 5 overall, but 3 and 2 in the last five years including 3 wins in a row from 2010 through 2012. Another words, last year was the first time they had beaten us since 2009- which is most certainly a good record against Texas “recently” by any objective standards. He should have done his homework and if their algorithms are that sloppy they are just lucky to have a 60 something win percentage of winning picks. Remember that you would expect 50% through random choice and it further enforces that these guys need to check their data and tweak their algorithms before bragging about their accuracy.

    • JJsooner1 says:

      Hmmmm Coach Stoops is 9-6 vs Texa$$ since 1999. Isn’t that 60%??

  • EasTex says:

Okay, I get it now…I think…about Okie State and their attitude.
This post at Pistols Firing is written by an admitted loser for losers.

Why I don’t want OSU to turn into Alabama (or OU)

Dude doesn’t even mention “squinky,” either.
I will never understand this attitude and won’t even try. If you aren’t playing for championships, trying to be the absolute best, then why would you even step on the field or cheer for your team?
People like this are weak and worthless, deserving of all the misery and cosmic farts life can bestow upon them.

    • paganpink says:

“All the misery and cosmic farts life WILL bestow on them” is more like it!. He seems to mistake not being a “fair weather fan” with his own justification for ignoring failures. No team will win every game and dismissing the people you lose to as being somehow bad is simply sour grapes. He is a loser and every word of his article displays that. His article is so childish it reminds me of the fans from OSU trying to trip our players or throw things at them in infantile fury. They DON’T actually like losing, of course, they just have no choice in the matter and so they display a lack of class that is breathtaking.

      • EasTex says:

The better your team is, the better the effort you will see from your opponents, thus providing the competitive games he claims to want.
He should have just shortened his title and post and said “I’m a loser….loo00oove me.!”

        • Gary Robbins says:

My first reaction was-huh, I need some stronger coffee. This person needs some professional help and I assume a man wrote the article.

        • Boom says:

I read it twice and people in life who have high expectations of themselve & expect to win will never understand this mentality. Winning could be closing the big deal or doing a good job due to your high expectations of yourself. The Bama game was close for the most part and kept me on feet pacing. However, if we lost, I would be PISSED for a long time and it would’ve left a scar. I still remember Nebraska in 71 and I was only 10 and it was a clip, and still pissed about that one. As far as Bama, I sure as heck wouldn’t be saying, well, we kept it close and it was exciting and fun. You kidding me?

      • JB says:

The Texas fans used to be the worst & most classless but getting stomped by OU a number of times seems to have mellowed them out a little. But oSu fans have shown the worst behavior of all & it’s not just OU games. They act that way to everyone. I read an article by Fox Sports that was a survey of the Big 12 players at media days. Of all the players surveyed and replies they gave to questions, these results were most revealing: Bob Stoops was THE Big 12 coach players would most like to play for; Oklahoma had the best fans; Norman was the best game day atmosphere, with a player commenting, “From that game that we played there, their fan atmosphere was just amazing. It was nice to play in. Even though they weren’t cheering for us, it felt good.”

The other telling comment was about oSu fans: “When we went there a couple years ago, we had like a grandpa behind our bench holding his grandson while he was MFing us on the sidelines.” This seems to be a pretty consistent experience for visitors to oSu. Whether it’s foul-mouthed fans throwing snowballs at our players, their cheerleaders trying to trip our players, it’s consistently the worst bunch of fans in the Big 12.

    • Chase Korenek says:

Tex, that has got to be one of the most bizarre angles to a story and one of the most bizarre stories I have ever read. For the life of me I cannot understand from what premise the writer was coming from. Moreover, why??

      • EasTex says:

I have no use for people like this. None.

      • DCinAZ says:

It’s useless turds trying to bend rationality and reason in an attempt to justify their preference for, and celebration of, mediocrity. They believe rooting for turd teams rewards them the moral highground and brings them closer to god. Problem is………I can’t see god at the business end of 52 point ass whipping.

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

“cosmic farts” LOL! Excuse me for being 9.

    • DCinAZ says:

      Cosmic farts? Lol!!!!

    • paganpink says:

Love that link to squinky, EastTex! But I just know it as “choking.” There’s no supernatural force causing them to “snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!” if I may borrow a term. Just poor play calling, bad decisions, along with fumbles, miscues, and mistakes at the worst possible time. That is who they are, who they have been, and who they will be- judging by the post you linked to above! When you blame others for your own mistakes, whether it’s natural or supernatural things you try to pin it on, you will never improve those things as you should have. Living in a world of coulda, shoulda, woulda, gets you nowhere as a team.

    • JJsooner1 says:

Can’t believe he just wasted that time of his life writing that BS.

  • Kenny Myers says:

Dean Blevins said Mixon will never play a snap at OU, first, how could he know this and what are you guys hearing? Thanks!

    • paganpink says:

Have not heard that. He hasn’t been charged with any crime as yet and unless he knows the DA himself he couldn’t know that. And if he does know the DA it would be completely inappropriate for him to say it. I think he assumes that because he was a male striking a female there is never a justification. AND I DISAGREE, even though I have never done so myself and surely never will. I have seen drunken women as violent as any drunken man and for just as little reason!

    • Zack says:

He’s just trying to make a prediction about something he really knows nothing about. Unless he knows a felony is coming. I honestly think mixon will try to stay at ou and prove he can persevere here.

      • Chase Korenek says:

It’s like I’ve been saying from the beginning Zack…..It is good that we haven’t heard anything in a while. If the “situation” was as cut and dry as some are saying, Mixon would already have charges pressed and be off the team.

        • Zack says:

You’re right that’s why from the beginning many were saying let’s just wait and see what the facts are. Most are saying they expect the DA to charge both with misdemeanors but that still could change. I don’t expect him to leave unless he is told he has to, it seems he’s becoming really good friends with Sunderland and once he gets back in practice I’m sure he will feel less home sick.

          • Chase Korenek says:

That’s another angle reporters were using that was making me upset…good gosh….I guarantee you 90% of players are homesick at one point or another, or how about people in general. My first year at OU I was really homesick. My point is it’s very very very normal. The kid has been here less than 6 months!

          • Hotrod33 says:

I remember when I first joined the Air Force back in ’90 and my first assignment was overseas. That first year was pretty rough but there were some great guys that took me under their wing and made it really fun. I will never forget that. These kids have never been away from their parents unless they spent the night with friends and that is only for a day or two. I knew kids that went to camp for just a week or two and were homesick. If Mixon sticks it out and fights through it he will be ok and this will just be another kid that took care of what he needed to do. We’ll just have to wait and see for another week.

          • Lesslie Stanford says:

It doesn’t help that he moved in when the majority of the student body is not there. He didn’t have classes he had to be in or anything like that. Heck if you are sitting in your rooms and then wake up go lift and the go back to your room I would be home sick as well!

    • Eric Hoffpauir says:

It’s SOP for pundits. Make a strong prediction and get heralded for being correct about it. If you’re wrong, everyone in the media conveniently forgets you’re wrong and you still get to make new bold predictions that you mostly get wrong.

Please can we just stick to the topics?

        • Boom says:

It’s an open post. Open to a lot of OU related items and I thought it was cool this happened. BTW, what topic since K & Jordan covered several.

        • blaster1371 says:

Huh? How is this off topic?

          • Sooner Ray says:

New posters get to make the rules, didn’t you know that? 🙂

          • blaster1371 says:

No kidding. Guess he or she (mama is in their handle) doesn’t get that anything OU is a topic for discussion here.

          • OohRahMama says:

Not making new rules, sweetie. Just asking that political jabs
(socialist republic of California) don’t take the shine off a good post.

  • Jordan Esco says:

    re: this Blevins thing

First, Blevins obviously has a long, long track record of being wrong. Like, a lot. So based on that alone I wouldn’t put too much stock into what he said.

Second, and in relation to my first point, he, BBJ, and others in the OKC market have a history of doing stuff like this. They come out and take a hard stance on something w/ a 50-50 chance they could be right. At which point if they are then they can say ‘look at me, I reported this first.’ Whereas if they’re wrong, they just blame it on “bad info from sources” if they even acknowledge it at all.

Third, if he actually had something then he’d be reporting it. But he didn’t do that. He just blurted it out on the radio.

I’m not here to say Mixon will play this year, or ever. I don’t know. But at this point I’d argue that Dean doesn’t really either. I’m betting he’s just like most of us who know someone who has heard something or whatever.

Anyway, that’s just my two cents.

    • paganpink says:

I agree, Jordan, And it’s hard to imagine him knowing 1.what he will be charged with (if anything) and 2. the coaches and administrations reaction to whatever that is, remembering that he has not been convicted of anything at that point. He knows a lot of folks at OU and was a great quarterback but no one can predict the future at this point. I noticed that she had a hearing this week for her drug and obstruction of justice problems with her false I.D. but there hasn’t been a resolution on those charges yet. The DA’s office is aware that her standing as a witness is completely compromised due to her record, her state of intoxication, and her admitted inability to remember what happened, so they must rely on other witnesses completely for any charges they consider. And I think it’s obvious that many witnesses were not on her “side” making it far from clear just what will happen.

I also wonder about their (witnesses) sobriety as well. The longer this takes the more chances of people’s stories changing which takes putting the picture together back several steps.

What happens with the law, with the university, ànd with the football team are three different things. They’re all related because what happens with one can affect the others. But they are separate and he has to pass all three hurdles.

          • blaster1371 says:

Oh I realize that. Avoiding jail would be a higher priority (to me if I were in his shoes) than getting to play at OU.

    • L'carpetron Dookmarriot says:

I stop the moment I read anything that starts with “Dean Blevins is reporting that…”

I wouldn’t let Blevins pick my lottery numbers even though the probability of each person winning is equal. Somehow, Dean would reduce the odds of winning to less than random chance. He has a gift…

    • soonermusic says:

Did Blevins give a percentage on this one? Can’t judge a Blevins report without one. 🙂

  • kt-raida says:

K, is there any word on how Kerrick Huggins is performing at his JUCO and if he is still committed to OU?

  • Zack says:

I guess they’re letting mixon watch practice today

  • Big Higg says:

Dang I’m going to be watching Ninja Turtles during Akamnonu’s commitment announcement…hopefully he does it during the previews…

    • blaster1371 says:

Sounds like you and I are in the same boat. I’m giving my daughter extra extra Saturday time the next three weeks before CFB season starts. I gotta hand it to her though; she signed both of us up for karate lessons and she purposely chose Monday evenings so “Daddy can watch OU beat up other schools”.

  • Josh says:

21 Days Till Football Time in Oklahoma!! There is a very famous #21 in the history of Sooner football but I just can’t include him on here. So instead of looking at the past I’m looking at the present. Hope this doesn’t work out like the Sports Illustrated or Madden Curse but I’m expecting him to have a big year.

    • paganpink says:

Barry Sanders wore 21 but he is a part of the history of Oklahoma, but not OKLAHOMA, football, LOL.

      • Daddy R says:

I’m thinking Josh means Darrel Royal…believe he wore 21 at OU as a player for a season or so…

      • Lesslie Stanford says:

I believe he was talking about someone else who was an All American before converting to a different shade of Orange.

    • soonermusic says:

When your arch rival pays you the ultimate compliment by naming their stadium after one of your legendary qb’s, you know you’ve got something. I understand your reluctance to include him here, but my earliest memory of OU football is my mom recounting how she used to listen to the games on radio and describing how he and Mitchell ran the reverse/fake reverse on kickoff returns.

    • EasTex says:

I’m a little surprised, I thought you would pick the QB of OU’s first national championship, Eddie Crowder.

  • blaster1371 says:

The more I think about Mixon’s decision to stay at OU if he can the more I think he will stay. If this team is as tight as we seem to think I can’t help but think these guys and coaches are just loving him. Can see Gundy calling his folks every other day and letting them know how Mixon is doing? Or the players making sure he gets out some and gets to hang with his teammates?

  • kt-raida says:

    Texas freaking tech!!!!!

  • CPSooner says:

for some 8-5 is considered good enough…I’m glad we set higher standards!

Good luck to Madison. Wish him well, but I just don’t get selecting an inferior program and school and being a legacy.

  • CPSooner says:

no doubt i hope the best for the kid, it’s just mind boggling.

  • Brad Warren says:

Akamnonu picked Tech. Oh well, Good luck to him.

  • kt-raida says:

Gotta admit that Kool aid must be good that Kingsbury is serving.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Wasn’t the petroleum engineering program/academics a big deal to Akamnonu? If so, OU just lost out to Tech on that side of things??? Wow

    • ttuadvisor says:

Texas Tech just got a new Petroleum Engineering building, a huge influx of donations and is a rising program in Petroleum Engineering.
Everything that is going on in the Midland area is putting Texas Tech on the fast track.

    • DCinAZ says:

What aren’t our coaches losing out to Tech on? I really don’t get why Tech is kicking our butts so bad. He’s having a ton of success talking kids into making bad decisions. Helluva used car salesman!!!!!

  • CPSooner says:

I’d rather play for a sexy coach than a successful one anytime ;o)

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Meh, oh well, we’ll just win without him.

  • Zack says:

Not mad at the kid but Lubbock is becoming a real pain. We need to take care of business there this year. I don’t care if that causes anyone to flip but it sure will make me feel better about losing kids to tech.

    • Gary Robbins says:

Kind of odd. OU beat Tech last year, OU is losing 6 good offensive lineman this year. Maybe the full court pressure Tech put on him earlier had some bearing. Legacy meant a lot with the Evans kid but Akamanonu not so much. It’s time for our man Bedenbaugh to push that envelope. I know we have till February to convince Ford, Danley, Samia, Barnett and Wariboko. At this time it’s impossible to feel secure on any of those 5 athletes.

      • Zack says:

That’s true but all we gotta do is win and make the playoff and then we will have another top 15 maybe ripe 10 class if we get the number up to 28. Winning the whole thing would go a long way.

        • j l says:

We’ve been winning, and we are still losing out to teams with no history, and little current on field success.

Winning dosent seem to be enough anymore.

  • JJsooner1 says:

2 things come to mind with Tech:

    1. If I were a recruit, I’d be looking at how kingcrap treated the Big 12 offensive player of the year.
    2. The level of competition at Tackle at OU vs that same position at Tech.

    You draw your own conclusions…………

    • ttuadvisor says:

      1. You mean being the only program in college football history to ever give a true freshman walk-on a shot at starting in a major conference? Texas Tech gave that kid his shot and he didn’t want to compete with Davis Webb. He quit during the season because he was told that his reps would be split 50/50 for bowl practice and is now suing the NCAA.

Baker Mayfield would have a 0% chance of ever playing for OU without Texas Tech.

      • JJsooner1 says:

No I mean the kid who was NOT offered a scholly after producing on the field. Move on troll………

        • ttuadvisor says:

He was offered a scholarship. Is he currently on scholarship for OU?

          • JJsooner1 says:

You mean AFTER the fact? And don’t look now, but he’ll be on scholarship before you know it. Wait for it……..

          • ttuadvisor says:

Kingsbury publicly stated that Mayfield would be put on scholarship hours after the SMU game last September.
Mayfield’s Dad came out this week and stated that a scholarship had nothing to do with why Mayfield left Texas Tech.
I find it ironic that OU never offered him a scholarship and doesn’t have him on scholarship, but OU fans are criticizing Texas Tech for not having him on scholarship.

          • BoomerDave says:

That’s an absolute lie! After Mayfield indicated that he wanted to transfer, Kingsbury acted like we was dumbfounded by that decision and said that the Mayfields were told that they had no scholarship to give at that time but that TTU would re-evaluate the scholarship situation in August 2014.

          • ttuadvisor says:

Nothing I stated was a lie. I like Baker and wish him good luck, but I’m glad he is no longer with Texas Tech. Someone who quits on his teammates during the season isn’t someone you want as a leader at QB.

          • JJsooner1 says:

We are thrilled to have him. His “leader” at OU won’t quit on him.

          • Daddy R says:

wow, I thought the back and forth with ttu man was over earlier…I just got myself caught up on the comments. lol Must be a boring saturday on tech land sites..

          • EasTex says:

            Baghdad Bob never rests.

          • blaster1371 says:

I think there was a lot more friction going on between the TT coach and Mayfield than has been made public. Klingsbury has to stay quiet so as to not to impact recruiting or the team. Mayfield is not saying much so as to not ruin any chance he has for winning his appeal.

          • ttuadvisor says:

Believe whatever you want to believe, but whatever happened it sure doesn’t seem to affect 5* QB Jarrett Stidham’s desire to play QB for Kingsbury.
He must be doing something right.

          • EasTex says:

Whatever he is doing sure seemed to effect the Taco Tech QB roster, as of mid April Brewer was the only one on the roster. No team has five QBs leave in one semester, it’s unprecedented and it all points directly at the coach.

          • blaster1371 says:

That sir, is a very good point. Add to that who coaches that position at TT.

          • ttuadvisor says:

Michael Brewer transferred to Virginia Tech(full release) and was certainly not the only QB on Texas Tech’s roster as of mid April.

          • EasTex says:

Really? Baghdad Bob, is that you?
            I stated “as of” mid-April.

Texas Tech quarterback exodus continues; Davis Webb now lone QB on roster

          • EasTex says:

BTW, nice edit after the fact to alter your comment that I replied to.
You are definitely a propagandist, nothing more.

          • blaster1371 says:

I tire of this discussion and really don’t give a rodent’s posterior about TT football. TT fans will spend the next six months worrying if they can actually get these guys to sign a LOI and not go elsewhere. You are not going to win any Klingsbury converts here.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

Honestly, I don’t think that they understand that. When Fehoko committed, they seemed to assume that his LOI was a done deal…

          • BoomerDave says:

Show me where Kingsbury “public stated” in Sept 2013 that Mayfield would receive a scholarship. And if that is true, why would Kingsbury tell the press in Jan 2014 that Mayfield’s scholarship situation would have been addressed in Aug. 2014? And why would the Mayfield family not be aware of this scholarship promise made months before? Is this all part of the “lack of communication”
            that Mayfield was talking about?

          • ttuadvisor says:

            Everything I’m stating is fact.

            http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com/2013/08/notes-and-quotes-maybe-texas-tech-walk-on-baker-mayfield-deserves-a-scholarship.html/

“He earned (a scholarship) a while back. I just had to keep it under wraps. He had practiced like a senior for the last week and I expected him to play really well. I couldn’t be more impressed with the way he’s handled the operation, handled his teammates and I’m just happy he got to play as well as I thought he could.”

Kingsbury added Mayfield is still a walk-on, but the team is working the numbers to put him on scholarship as soon as possible.”

It’s painfully obvious that Texas Tech’s critics don’t understand the way scholarships work at a major college football program. You don’t just have dozens of scholarships laying around in the middle of the season to hand out like candy and you certainly don’t walk up to a scholarship player in September or December and take away a scholarship from one player and hand it to another.

          • EasTex says:

It’s unfortunate that you spread your propaganda here and expect us to view it as credible. A “Double-Super-Secret” scholarship offer is not recognized by the NCAA, the Big II or any reasonable person.
If this is the kind of Bravo Sierra he was telling his best QB, one can only imagine what the other four QBs who left TT were hearing.

          • blaster1371 says:

“Working the numbers” does not sound like a scholarship was a done deal. Working on it might produce one and working on it might prove its not doable.

          • Boom says:

I’m giving you a raise but first I need to work with the numbers. Once I get that worked out, I will contact you.

          • blaster1371 says:

The criticism is not that TT didn’t have him on scholarship but that TT has any “right” to release a walk on, non scholarship athlete. My understanding was the scholarship if indeed extended by TT would not be good until Fall 2014. On your other point, Stoops does not discourage quality walk ons. You are correct that his play at TT helped his chances in making the OU team. We are certainly excited to have him.

          • JJsooner1 says:

Ummmmm he CHOSE OU. This was a gigantic blunder by kingcrap. TT has zero right to hold a walk-on, non scholarship player. There was no existing contract

          • ttuadvisor says:

Texas Tech has absolutely nothing to do with Mayfield not playing this season. Even if Texas Tech did release Mayfield he wouldn’t be eligible to play for OU this season.
That is a NCAA rule and the NCAA transfer rules state nothing about scholarships. Being on scholarship or being a walk-on doesn’t matter at all, it’s completely irrelevant in regards to NCAA transfer rules.

          • JJsooner1 says:

Yeah? Then why won’t Tech release him???

          • blaster1371 says:

Not sure about your position concerning the scholly/ non scholly status for transfers. Certainly he would have to sit out a year in either case but with TT not releasing him he loses ONE season of eligibility. There in lies the rub.

          • ttuadvisor says:

Correct, and Bob Stoops has done the exact same thing for kids who transfer in conference. In fact, every single Big 12 coach does the exact same thing as Kingsbury in regards to in conference transfers.

The NCAA doesn’t differentiate between scholarship transfers and walk-on transfers.

Kingsbury released Michael Brewer to Virginia Tech and Clayton Nicholas to Bowling Green without restriction this year. Mayfield had the opportunity to go to 110+ football programs and not lose a year of eligibility. It was his decision to throw away a year of eligibility.

          • blaster1371 says:

That’s because there is ONE Oklahoma!

          • Boom says:

Agreed but show me where he did this with a WALK ON

          • thebigdroot says:

This is not entirely true. He let Williams go to aTm and was trying to help him become eligible.

          • soonermusic says:

The NCAA rule does in fact leave it up to the college the player is leaving to let him play or not. It’s called the one time transfer exception section D

          • j l says:

We cant put him on scholarship because you guys blocked him from receiving financial aid genius.

          • Boom says:

How do you know. That’s Cliffy at his best to spin the situation. Or, unless you are in the meetings with Cliffy and know 1st hand what’s really going on.

      • Daddy R says:

If Mayfield was afraid of competition, why did he transfer to OU again?

  • oumike23 says:

Hope he has fun at the Alamo Bowl

  • Boom says:

My 2 cents. All kids want to start right away – ie Byrd. Interesting when they get to this level they realize especially OL that to start right away either you’re a stud or there is no talent in that position. Depth chart may have pushed him to tech.
Still a long time to go and we will see how the season unfolds and if he sticks with his decision.

  • Zack says:

Just be glad haughton delayed his decision I think he was leaning tech’s way although tfb would know more than me.

  • blaster1371 says:

If Texass tech has any success over the next few seasons I would wager coach dingleberry is coaching elsewhere. I want OU to just decimate them this season in their house.

    • Ed Cotter says:

There is still a while before February and we will see guys changing their minds. Not sure if OU will still have any spots for guys like Madison by then though. Hey, guys gotta do what they deem best for getting on the field sooner. Bedenbaugh and the OU coaching staff don’t make promises for playing time, but just give guys equal opportunity.

      • blaster1371 says:

I agree on all the points you made. I can see a lot of shuffling going on in the weeks before signing day when a decommit here and a commit there causes a domino effect. If there was truth in the post yesterday that Danley was all prepared to commit to OU but then decided to wait was based on him waiting to see what Madison was going to do?

        • Gary Robbins says:

I hope OU doesn’t have a decommit on the offensive line. Losing 6 offensive lineman from the 2014 class should be a good incentive to come to OU.

          • blaster1371 says:

I was thinking more like decommits and commits at other programs but OU is certainly operates in that same environment.

  • Ed Cotter says:

Well, good luck to Madison at Tech.

    • ttuadvisor says:

Thanks. Kingsbury is putting together a decent class.

      • paganpink says:

By tricks and little dances? Maybe he should start a hashtag movement? That way he can make them number one on facebook likes- since they sure as heck aren’t going to get there on a football field!

  • blaster1371 says:

The last line goes along what I was thinking that they are probably wearing out some. When do classes start? The students arriving could also be a new distraction. Mike Stoops making them run gasses is good to see he is keeping them grounded. Some of the player interviews held their progress in higher esteem than Mike Stoops did.

  • Shifty says:

I guess Madison was terrified of the thought of getting some slot reps

    • Gary Robbins says:

Thanks Shifty. All my negative feelings and comments just disolved. Now it’s on to Monday and who will be OU’s next off. lineman commit?

      • Shifty says:

Neg thoughts only get you so far buddy…better to keep filling that glass up

      • Shifty says:

Off hand I think Ford and Danley are good possibilities and apparently Lio (tech commit) is still open…there will also be guys come on during their senior years…and once the season starts the excitement is going to be thru the roof if we live up to expectations

    • Hotrod33 says:

The bad thing is, he could possibly be starting next year if he was ready at least competing for the job and getting a lot of playing time since we have almost all seniors on the line.

      • Shifty says:

yeah he would def be competing but would be behind the current class as far as techn and s&c..I’ve seen where he is big on the petro eng and both schools have excellent programs…maybe he feels (or has been sold) he has better opportunities at tech in that regard

        • paganpink says:

I still think O.U.’s is a better petroleum engineering school and known world wide for it. But it’s his decision to make.

  • Ed Cotter says:

You know what would be great, a breakdown of how many spots OU has per position and how many are filled right now with the guys that have committed. Would be a nice visual. Just throwing that out there. Jordan?

  • Big Higg says:

Well ninja turtles was good if anyone was wondering. Then I get out and see we lost a recruiting battle to tech & the not so good scrimmage news.

  • JJsooner1 says:

    Info for trolls……………

OU is 15-6 all time versus Tech…………or over 71%……just sayin:-)

    • Daddy R says:

and to think it took Okie lite 28 games to reach 6 wins against the Sooners! Guess Tech is ahead of the curve for “up and coming” bottom dwellers!

    • Boom says:

I know one of those was BS due to the offical calling a TD when the RB rolled on the ground for 2 yards until he went into end zone. Funny, side judge was from – yep, Lubbock. Some interesting calls at Lubbock. Hope we play them at night and wear them out.

  • j l says:

So tech tries to pressure him, rubs him the wrong way, and he still commits there? What the hell is going on? Does on field success not count for anything anymore?

Why would you want to play for a team that, without fail, collapses every single november?

Oh well, hope this kid finishes his degree, because his chances to be developed to maximum potential just went down the drains.

Enjoy the wrong side of the beatdowns kid

    • JJsooner1 says:

Yeah especially since Coach Stoops has had 5 OL drafted in the first round during his tenure. I don’t get it, but hey, whateva floats your boat. SMH

    • Super K says:

Surprised me too bud. Though JY talked to him earlier in the week and didn’t seem surprised by the tech commit.

    • Zack says:

I think one thing oline and most dline guys coming out of high school have to look at is not who will be leaving the year before they get there, they need to look at who will be leaving after their first year on campus. What I mean is oline and most dline kids should redshirt because it’s a tough transition for them to compete against guys who’ve been in weight programs for 4 or 5 years. So it’s possible he was looking at all the seniors leaving this year and knows we just brought in some talented tackles who will redshirt this year and still have 4 years to play and that may make bringing in tackles straight from high school tougher this year.

      • JJsooner1 says:

Always have loved the voice of reason Zack:-)

      • j l says:

who would have he to compete against, frison and brown?

Both of techs backup tackles are redshirt freshman, meaning he wont start for at least 2 years there either.

Id rather be 2nd string for the sooners than 2nd string for TTU.

      • Gary Robbins says:

hope that’s the reason. OU loses 5 off. lineman in 2015 and Frison and Brown would be his main concern. Is this a concern, OU has offered 22 off. tackles and only 8 are left who have not committed. We have a good shot at about half of them.
My only concern is the off. tackles OU has lost out on and have committed somewhere else at present time! Weathersby, James, Dyer, Allen, Sutherland, Ford and Lafaele (add-M. Akamanonu). Those are the ones I thought we had a chance at and may still have.
Just sign Danley, Ford, Barnett, plus 1 more and it’s a wrap-no hill for a stepper.

  • Big Higg says:

This site needs a phone app that will inform of updates. Bad. Lol

  • Zack says:

I’m not scrolling down. But who let the tech guys in? Every time they get a recruit we want we’re going to have to see that. That’s why we need to take out the trash early in Lubbock and see Thomas start the 2nd half up by 50.

  • Jackson1006 says:

Let’s keep it classy people. Disappointing but good luck to Madison, sincerely wish him the best in football and life.

    • Super K says:

      Good comment!

      • PLAW0720 says:

Signing day isn’t here yet – who really knows what these kids will do until then. OU has a good year, gets into the playoff, and wins the crystal, then some there won’t be enough room on the schooner. Relax – it’s only August and nobody has played a down. Boomer

    • Daddy R says:

Agreed. And good luck to the kid, but I couldn’t help but think of this…

  • Marcus says:

Heard that Madison wants to take official visit to OU. If true why does the coaching staff continue to recruit and offer official visits for recruits that choose to committ elsewhere?

    • Daddy R says:

Players decommit somewhat often.. nothing final til letter signed, and depending on how badly OU wants them, they may continue to recruit and hold offer til player signs with said school.

    • Bob Edwards says:

You also never know when you will want to go back to his school and recruit other players. Even if you don’t get the guy, you want to leave a positive impression on him. You never know who he will talk to.

    • Zack says:

I get what you’re asking I think. Why do we host committed recruits but we don’t want our commits visiting other schools? If that’s what you were getting at.
And my answer would be for this very reason a kid who we thought wanted to come to ou went elsewhere but we think we can flip him that’s why we want kids to commit when they choose to shut their recruitment down completely.

      • Gary Robbins says:

Are we upset at the recruit (Aka) or mad because Texas Tech won the battle? Would we be this upset if Alabama, USC, or Fl. State won his commit? I’m ready for Monday and our next commit and hopefully a little better news.

        • Zack says:

I would still be disappointed if we lost a recruit that had us in his top 3. But not mad at the recruit.

        • ToatsMcGoats says:

Not mad, baffled. Baffled at the fact that a kid with a legit shot to be playing at a superior school, on a superior team, for a superior coach would chose to go to texas tech….It’s like seeing Olivia Wilde with Jason Sudeikis.

  • SoonerinLondon says:

Scrimmage report sounds a lot like the Spring game.

  • Big Higg says:

Whew on the scrimmage. We’ll get there tho – not that worried

  • SoonerinLondon says:

Well, the goal line D may mean that we still have trouble stopping the downhill running game. Could be worse, for a team playing in the Big XII.

After what ND, Texas and Bama did to us last year, you can bet that every team is going to test us with the run.

    • Zack says:

True but shannon and Philips(maybe) were not involved. Plus our backs/oline are probably the best the defense will face until the playoff.
Gotta get better though no excuses.

      • SoonerinLondon says:

Yes. I think we’ll show better against the run this year. MS doesn’t ignore weaknesses.
        We’ll know soon enough.

  • Chris White says:

Don’t take shots at Tony Perry, real talk. We have success recruiting DBs from Cali because of the development he does.

    • Super K says:

Who took a shot at tony perry?

      • Chris White says:

Calling Clay the REAL DB guru to me comes off like Tony is a fraud, but that’s just my opinion

        • Super K says:

Sorry bud…as I said above the intent was to praise Mack. If it’s a shot at anyone, it’s a shot at all these Texas db coaches that claim to be gurus. Not a shot at Perry. I honestly have never had any interaction with Perry but the man seems to put talented players and based on his interviews he seems to care a great deal about his kids.

          • Chris White says:

I understand and thank you for clearing that up for me, sorry for blowing that up unnecessarily

          • Super K says:

No prob Chris! We edited the post to make it a little clearer as well. Thanks for pointing that out.

    • Clint Lenard says:

Control + F tony perry … only Chris White mentions Tony Perry. Wuuuuuuuttttt

    • Super K says:

Looking back I’m assuming you meant when we said Clay Mack was the real db guru. That wasn’t intended as a shot at tony perry. Perry puts out studs. And he’s been GREAT to OU. It was intended as a compliment to Clay and a shot at all the Texas guys who claim to be DB gurus.

  • Waggs says:

Would be helpful if when discussing recruits you mentioned their rankings by recruiting services.

  • bmrsnr says:

    What is unorthodox about green?

  • connie usa says:

I love hitting “refresh” and seeing an UPDATE.

  • EasTex says:

Paging Mr. Striker…Mr. Striker…please pick up the Crimson phone.

Tennessee unhappy with QBs in Fall practice.

    • blaster1371 says:

With a young O-line and prior success of other teams if I were Tennessee I would concentrate on a power run game against OU and use the pass to keep the D honest.

      • EasTex says:

They have a power RB in Jalen Hurd, but they are still working on having an o-line to block for him.
        /paging all OU defenders…OU defenders…your presence at a curb-stomping are required

        • blaster1371 says:

I would think a power run game helps a young o-line. I can see some pressure resulting in interceptions.

          • EasTex says:

Expecting a young o-line to perform consistently well in a power game is unrealistic, especially against experienced and talented defenses.

          • blaster1371 says:

I thought it would be more of blocking whom ever crosses your face and less “assignment” such as picking up blitzes or releasing a stunting player and so forth.

          • EasTex says:

            Experience counts.
Played against a team that used that type of blocking scheme, they were huge(outweighed us by 20-30 a man) and were accustomed to just road grading anyone that was in front of them. Our d-line lived in their backfield because of our superior quickness. They had never encountered a defense that could stunt them so effectively and the best part was seeing the frustration in their eyes.
Point being, it takes time and game experience to handle all that a defense can do. What confidence they may have in their ability to run block is wafer thin knowing they will need to pass block to have a chance to win.
I’m watching the UGA-Vols game right now, the entire Vols O-line was Srs last year. I don’t know how much playing time their backups got or how good their O-line coach is, but that young a line and questionable QB play makes it a rough row to hoe.

          • blaster1371 says:

No doubt they will have a huge learning curve. The OU d gave Bama some fits on the edge. I just think back to that Texass game where they just caved in the center of the OU defense and got 5 yards a clip.

          • EasTex says:

And if we lose our best players in the middle of the D(like last year) it could happen again. At least Texsa had an experienced O-line.

    • Big Higg says:

Hopefully we can put the spank on em and impress a couple recruits

    • paganpink says:

How about this though EasTex: They had hoped the quarterbacks would be much better after working all summer with quarterback coach “George Whitfield, who is famously known for turning Johnny Manziel from a nonstarter into a Heisman winner.” Doesn’t Manziel get some credit for his progress? LOL. And if it IS all Whitfield, why are they still so bad after working with them all summer?

  • Dustin Madson says:

Anyone else see that Cody Ford changed his twitter profile picture and his header to OU edited pictures of himself? I haven’t heard any news of a commit but this seems like a give away. Check it out: https://twitter.com/Cody_Ford74

    • Baron Boomer says:

      Good spot Dustin!

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Ha, can’t go wrong with that!

    • Super K says:

      Soon…

      • Gary Robbins says:

I see what you done. If OU closes on Ford, Danley(should already have him), Barnett and 1 more that will be 6 and a wrap-maybe. Have you or JY or anyone had a chance to look at the film of the recent offer-Dru Samia out of Danville, Ca. He’s listed at 6-6/295 and has a pretty good offer list. OU has 142 offers for 2015 and had 186 for 2014, so they are just getting started.

        • Super K says:

Yeah jy looked at Samia we will have his notes up on him today or tmrw

        • Zack says:

I’m curious to see what they’re doing with offers. We know they’ve told whitfield and david long that we may offer once they’ve played a few games or so this year. Also most of the TE offers have committed so I’m interested to see if they’re trying to flip Cantrell or just focusing right now on the hback McNeal and then just holding offers in case there’s some late bloomers. But I believe they will take 2 TE with one being an hback type.

          • Super K says:

I’d like to see them go after ASU commit Thomas Hudson at TE. And yes, we’ve been told two TEs

          • Zack says:

I will go check him out…right now.

          • Zack says:

I was going to ask is the a’lize kid who committed to ucla taking an official to Norman? I thought I read that

          • Boom says:

Super K, I hope they don’t forget about Jace Sternberger. I’m hoping for a great sr campaign from him. He’s still growing and who knows.

    • OUknowitscomin says:

Ha, just noticed the same thing today. I’m no rocket scientist, but that appears positive

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

Don’t know if this has already been posted, and it doesn’t really tell us much, but here’s some footage from the scrimmage:

    • EasTex says:

Thanks, a nice start to the day seeing the guys putting in the work. It sure was nice to see big ol’Tyrus moving around and mauling.
I also enjoyed the video of the Special Olympian autograph day.

    • Gary Robbins says:

Thanks, like you say they don’t want us to see much. I guess you could call it a teaser.

      • Zack says:

Not much to see but the one shot of smallwood is what I noticed he looks bigger than I thought. I’m hoping he and cavil make a big impression this season.

  • blaster1371 says:

It seems to me that more often than not OU has a freshman cornerback stand out over the others that have been there a while. (Marcus ?) Walker, Hurst, Colvin and Sanchez all cracked the starting line up as freshmen. What does this say about the others that get beat out by players with less experience in the program? Not indicting anyone just wondering out loud after reading about Green turning some heads with his play at camp thus far.

    • Daddy R says:

Well hopefully it could mean that OU is landing better and better CB’s every year. Could also be that maybe a freshman “wants it” a little more than a vet sometimes. Maybe a combination of the two? or another reason entirely! lol

  • Josh says:

Boomer!!

    • Jordan Esco says:

That’s interesting. Comment could also be a product of the decision having been made, but regardless best of luck to him.

      • rphdenton says:

post on ag board…………Kliff is playing an active role in Bob Stoops’ demise in Texas recruiting. Wescott Eberts tweeted a bit ago that, of OU’s top OL targets, 3 have committed to A&M, 3 have committed to Texas Tech, and 2 to Texas.

        • Zack says:

That’s going to happen I suppose I’m surprised about weathersby and akamnonu. But if we land our 2 in state guards we may may end up with the best group altogether. If we don’t land either of them then I will be worried.

          • rphdenton says:

perhaps, but still doesn’t change that we’re getting smoked (and have been) in tx for the perceived best of the big boys on o/d line/lb

          • Gary Robbins says:

If OU gets Ford(La.), Samia(Calif), plus Evans that’s 3 really good offensive tackles. Grab Barnett along with Hearne that’s 2 really good offensive guards. OU will have 6 really good off. lineman come February. On the d-line OU has Overton, Mann and Jacobs. Now the linebackers seem to be a real problem. OU might be getting smoked but as the article indicated it took 3 Texas schools to claim that.

          • Boom says:

Agree with all of you. However it’s early August so we will see how this unfolds. Also, love the Louisiana OL & DL guys.

        • Jordan Esco says:

That’s not even his stat, but his (Wescott) opinion on just about anything also means pretty much nothing to me.

OU will be fine, but obviously Tech and Baylor and A&M have made it much more difficult recruiting the state of Texas. No denying that.

    • SoonerCindy says:

He said it during the video tribute to Stoops where coaches congratulated his becoming the most winningest coach at OU

  • rphdenton says:

….watched some of the replay of last yrs tenn/ga game which tenn lost in ot………..will say that the tenn coach is not conservative…….he will gamble and throw in some tricks…….think he’ll have his vols ready to come in here and give us fits if we’re not playing A game
