Antoine Stephens: The 2015 cornerback has let us know that he narrowed his list to three schools: OU, Texas Tech & Baylor. He has also told us that he will announce his decision on Thursday.

Most of you will recall that he is set to take an official visit to Norman this weekend and the OU coaches will do an in-home visit with him this Thursday as well.

A.D. Miller: We caught up with 2015 WR and Illinois commit, A.D. Miller out of Dallas. He told us that OU’s new offensive coordinator, Lincoln Riley, is already in touch with him. He also said that he’s in touch with Cale Gundy as well. Miller feels like an offer could come soon, but he said that he will likely know more once a WR coach is hired.

If OU offers it’s likely the Sooners will at least get a visit, because it seems pretty clear that Miller is interested.

Fotu Leiato: Many of you may recall S/LB Fotu Leiato, out of Washington, who blew up on the recruiting scene last month. Oklahoma, UCLA, and several other schools have since offered Fotu. We’ve been told by his HS recruiting coordinator that they are expecting Mike Stoops to do an in-home visit with Leiato on January 19th, at which time they plan to discuss the possibility of a visit to Norman on Jan. 23rd.

Javahn Fergurson: A new linebacker target you are going to want to keep your eye on his Javahn Ferguson out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Javahn told us that he has been in communication quite a bit with Jerry Montgomery, but no offer has yet been extended. He remains hopeful that one will come though.

Gabriel Campbell: Spoke to OU’s most recent commit, DE Gabriel Campbell, last night. He said he is still receiving quite a bit of in-state pressure to stay close to home and attend Ole Miss or Miss. State. But he continues to remain solid to Oklahoma. He let us know that Coach Montgomery will be in Mississippi on Thursday for another in-home visit.

    Hello!!!

  • Richard Gray says:

As far as campbell i would only worry if his parents r pressuring him if if just the schools im not worried…. Think ou gets stephens

  • Mark slavin says:

What about Cassius peat is Ou still going after him?

  • JD says:

I wonder if they are waiting to offer Miller after Jefferson’s visit..I doubt we’d take two more wrs

    • AmaGoh7 says:

Has DGB declared for NFL draft ? I’ve read conflicting stories as to whether he has nor not. Isn’t the deadline Jan. 15th ? Hasn’t OU started classes too ? Just looking for some clarity.

      • JD says:

Stoops said he has decided to leave but he still hasn’t hired an agent..My guess is he is trying to fig out where he’d be drafted and who will be running the offense at OU….if he hasn’t hired then he can change his mind in the next few days…not sure but he might be able to change his mind further down the road as long as he hasn’t signed an agent and is still in school…it’ll be a interesting development after we get our WR coach and start to hear the leaks coming out from winter conditioning to see if he is still here

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Good way to end the day. Thanks guys

  • bjwalker82 says:

who is gonna replace BJW? Thoughts?

    • JD says:

      My guess is Viney

      • bjwalker82 says:

I like Viney, but ugh promoting from within

        • JD says:

I hear ya but Viney is the reason we have Byrd, got Moore (transferred since), almost got Tee Shep, and got Quick…he’s supposed to be a pretty good db guru…hopefully Mike allows some press coverage

    • AmaGoh7 says:

Duane Akina, Stanford, great resume and recruiter in TX
Clay Jennings, AR, more of the same
      My two cents

      • Sooner Ray says:

Wish we could get Akina, I’ve heard he doesn’t care for UT very much.

      • Scott Moore says:

Yes! Akina. Good one. Look at all the all pro defensive backs he produced to the NFL. Probably likes living in California though.

  • D'Brickashaw Ferguson says:

Love that Riley’s already recruiting…but wish he’d go all-out for Van Jefferson. That guy’s gonna be a solid WR wherever he goes. Is Jefferson still visiting since Josh Smith rescheduled?

And thanks for the late afternoon update!

  • sooner44 says:

Any news on Josh Smith? Visiting, not visiting?

  • Brian says:

Pretty obvious what they’re saying here…Stephens is committing to OU on Thursday! It’d be pretty awkward if he wasn’t…

  • Fear The Magic says:

Personally dont like reading that MStoops will be paying a home town visit. I was kind of hoping that his absences on visits lately was a sign that he’s on his way out.
    Oh well

    • normanite says:

      Thought the same thing.

    • JD says:

getting the right guy at backer coach will do wonders (still quiet on that front)…Mike has shown the ability to be a good Co D coordinator…hopefully it comes together quickly

    • Jordan Esco says:

Don’t shoot the messenger, but It’s not going to happen.

      • Easton says:

Mike, but Kish to stay as well, as far as you know?

        • Jordan Esco says:

I don’t believe that’s the case, but at this point nothing would surprise me w/ Mike & Bob’s propensity to protect “their guys”

          • RBear says:

Consider this a click of the invisible dislike button.

          • Easton says:

            Yeah, copy that, thank you.

          • Nate Broadus says:

Mike is one thing. I won’t raise Cain over it if he stays — so long as the rest of the defensive staff is gutted.

Kish, however? If he keeps his job any residual faith I have in Stoops will take a severe hit.

We have a linebacker coach that has to rely on the DL coach to recruit players for him to actually “coach.” That. Is. Embarrassing.

          • sooner44 says:

            THIS!!!!!

          • Jeff says:

Then they all can be fired next year

      • Fear The Magic says:

No worries Jordan. I wont shoot the messenger but if we have another year on D like we did this past year I may shoot MYSELF.

      • Jive Turkey says:

That really is a shame. Our secondary was atrocious this past year. I can only hope Monty dials up more blitz’s against some QBs this next season so we have a shot at rattling the quarterback and not having to rely on our DB’s cause they’ll be playing the usual 10+ yards off the receiver.

        • BoomerDave says:

Doubtful that Monty will be dialing up anything. He is the Co-Defensive Coordinator much like Norvell was the Co-Offensive Coordinator. A title and a raise. Any time that he spends game planning and Coordinating is time not spent on the phone with recruits. He is our D-Line coach and Chief Recruiter Extraordinaire. That’s what he’ll be doing next year. Mike S or our new DC if Mike is out will be the main DC.

      • MrBigsby says:

So you’re saying Kish is here to stay?

    • eastoksooner says:

      My thoughts too

    • SoonerfanTU says:

While it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if Mike left, I do feel like a bringing in new blood for BJW and Kish, along with Monty getting the Co-DC title, might be enough to turn things around. Mike isn’t failing at this alone. I can promise you Bob, Monty, and every other D coach has had a say in things, given how bad they’ve been. With everybody back except Phillips/Grissom, I expect to see improvements next year, even if Mike stays.

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

Well look at the guy he’s visiting. We could use a guy like that

  • SoonerGoneEast says:

So MS is doing an in home with Leiato without Kish. Interesting.

  • Brian says:

I want to see another couple offers out to LBs! Dwaine Thomas and Fergurson would be a good start…

  • Jordan Esco says:

Updated the post w/ some film if you’re interested, just hit refresh.

  • sooner44 says:

It doesn’t seem like we would be losing any commits or missing out on any current prospects by letting Kish go, and so it seems it could only enhance our chances with some other prospects before NSD by bringing someone else in. What am I missing here?

  • JD says:

Javahn looks like a special teams beast..he can certainly handle the traffic

  • James D-Space says:

Wish Monty was going after Fotu, but I’m sure Mike will dazzle the kid with his charming personality and secure the commitment.

  • ruasoonerfan2 says:

Any news on McGuinnis, and Thomas.

  • Steve Cooke says:

The aggies are after Dwaine Thomas now.

  • Timber Moore says:

Can any one tell me what happened with Jalin Barnett? Haven’t heard a word about him. Surely we didn’t just drop him.?.?

    • JR says:

From everything that I can gather (and this is without talking down on him) he came to the OU camp and didn’t perform very well and was beat by several players that shouldn’t have beat him. He also gained back some bad weight that has hurt his game. He has a lot of potential and upside but he has a lot of work in front of him to get there.

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

I believe that’s the case… also his co-favorite forever, Arkansas, dropped him as well… my guess is he probably ends up at Nebraska or OSU…

    • Zack says:

He didn’t have a great senior year. I don’t think his hs coach did hi, any favors by playing him at RT instead of at guard

  • Sooner Ray says:

So Stephens is announcing Thursday, we’re in his home on Thursday, and He’s visiting over the weekend? Seems odd to me.
If MS is doing an in home…………well.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

please tell me Bob is going to go all out for Clay Jennings as the new DB coach…

  • Boom says:

    Safety CommitsSunderland & Haughton

  • Jeff says:

You suckas knew MS was going no where!

  • Brian Glenn says:

Javahn looks like a solid player. Definitely a special teams monster! I like that he can set the edge and maneuver in traffic. Curious as to what his measurables are?

  • Docknoss says:

These coaching changes are going to give OU alot of momentum with Big Recruits. just like it has done for Coach B and Coach M.

    • Zack says:

Maybe for 2016 but the 2015 class is pretty much wrapped up on offense. I think there’s 8 total spots left and 2 of them have to be for linebackers. And at least 3 for the secondary positions. Plus I don’t think they would turn away any of Neal, Lampkin or Daniels.
Now getting the right linebacker coach (assuming kish is gone, because I would have fired him) would be a big boost to this class.

      • Docknoss says:

Yep i couldn’t agree more, Billy Mays has a better chance at Recruiting from the grave. Than Kish does at LB coach in a Prestigious program that’s running the 3-4 defense. It’s sad really, I hear the guy can coach but damn recruiting is half the battle.

  • hemisooner says:

    AD miller looks like Malcolm

  • rphokc says:

….mstoops visit, is that another indication that he’s stayin……..

  • EasTex says:

Just found a new Kyler Murray 2014 highlight remix that came out 4 days ago.
    Well done.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Kid has a strong arm and explosive speed. The biggest fault he has is the way he carries the ball down field through traffic.

      • EasTex says:

        The ball toting is correctable.
What I like most is his ability to find his receivers and put the ball on the money, either with touch or velocity.

      • Jerry reid says:

He really reminds me a lot of how Johnny football ran with the ball and his illusiveness. His throws are pretty good. I’d preferr him to run if he had to but not planned. We got great backs to take that load.

    • Boom says:

geez, how good is that. C’mon Riley, let’s see some sooner magic.

    • BR says:

Am I alone in thinking this kid is just to dadgum small? Dont get me wrong, I’ll take all the help we can get at passing the dam ball but he’s just so dang little.

      • EasTex says:

        5’11” 180
His offer list indicates his ability and not his size is what matters.

        • BR says:

I hear ya EasTex, I read somewhere that he was listed at 5’11” but actually closer to 5’9″. After watching this video tho….I plum love that he can lead a receiver like he does

          • EasTex says:

He really is 5’11” and is only 17 years old, lots of physical development to go, but the skills he possesses at such a young age are just phenomenal.
Having watched him since he was a 15year old soph I have no doubts his winning ways will continue.

          • BR says:

Thanks Tex, I appreciate your insight…and I’ll hafta admit…You’ve sold me on the young man… 🙂

          • EasTex says:

Ha…the kid sold me 3 years ago. I’ve called him the “baby faced killer” ever since.

  • Exiled In Ohio says:

247 indicates Reid may be leaning more toward Stanford. Is the coaching uncertainty hurting us with this one? Justin has been one of my favorite targets.

  • Sooner Ray says:

    OU vs. WV tipped off.

  • boomersooner says:

Hopefully hoops will peak at the right time, cause they ain’t peaking right now

    • EasTex says:

Hope they didn’t peak at Texsa.

      • boomersooner says:

Yikes. Way too many games left for that business, but we have looked like a steaming pile ever since. I think we have several hundred turnovers already tonight. Wouldn’t surprise me if we had more TO’s than shots

    • Sooner Ray says:

Turning it over faster than IHOP flips pancakes.

  • Super K says:

Does anyone else see that “sponsored comment” above the comment section? If so, we didn’t put that there. I’m assuming that’s just something disqus is doing to make some extra money themselves.

  • Sooner Redzone says:

I checked up today on the Bedenbough and Riley supposedly conflict. I know another site and their source seemed to think it was really a big deal. I have a friend who knows several of the coaches on that staff then. Almost all of them laughed and wanted to know how some of the legendary Shipp versus fill the name in the blank coaches tangled missed the message boards. They didn’t seem to think it was a big deal like K said. I did also hear from the same friend who knows about 50 college head coaches and assistants and more than that retired. His sons both started 4 years at a Texas D-I school. He said the consensus down in Texas is that Riley was a homerun hire because of recruiting and he said ” he has a bright mind”

    • rphokc says:

……sooners could always use some more sideline/coaching conflict for the tv cams to follow….

  • curt gomer says:

Nathaniel Dalton tweeted he will be committing soon. thoughts?

  • James D-Space says:

Men’s BBALL team just dropped another game. Two in a row now. I know the conference has depth & is one of the toughest, but thinking this team just ok. Long season, maybe they’ll improve towards the end when it counts.

    • connie usa says:

No depth = losses to teams with lots of depth.
WVU had 11 guys score. 55 bench points and OU had 8 bench points.

    • Wilson says:

Tough team. Tough environment. Bad match up.

    • boomersooner says:

We looked awful the last 2. Lon’s gotta use more bench. Starters ain’t gonna make it thru the season playing this many mknutes. TO’s were awful tonight

      • James D-Space says:

Totally agree. There is talent on the bench, but we won’t see it until next season. Grrrr

      • connie usa says:

They have no bench to use. Lattin is good for 2-4 points. Walker 2-4 points. Booker 2-4 points.

        • boomersooner says:

They’ve got enough, I think, to keep us in games in spurts. Don’t have to make wholesale changes but a guy or two here and there while keeping some scorers out there. Gotta try something. Last few minutes were painful

          • connie usa says:

WVU also was much quicker than OU.
Hopefully, Hield doesn’t turn pro. If he stays, OU could have a good team in 2015-2016.

          • boomersooner says:

Yeah they’re good. This league has a lot of good teams and a few great ones. Kansas could finish 3rd or 4th and that wouldn’t make me mad at all

        • Scott Moore says:

He should have been playing that bench more against inferior teams. I guess he was focused on getting Tashawn worked in with the starters. Hurting us now. We do have some decent big men off the bench. And a PG who given a chance may be more consistent than Woodard. Not much in between.

  • sooner44 says:

    Gotta love the Belldozer!

  • Sooner Ray says:

Shouldn’t someone else be hired or fired by now?

  • Caleb Miller says:

What about Cassius Peat? Any word on him since he de-committed from UCLA or is he all Az. St?

  • JB says:

Well, it looks like Mike Stoops will NOT be going anywhere. LSU hired Kevin Steele.

Our defense was horrendous and couldn’t adjust to anything. Our lack of defense cost us every game we lost this year and Mike is the architect of that horrendous defense. So, it’s probably not too early to speculate on who will replace Bob Stoops as head coach after next season when our sorry defense loses 4-5 more games next year. Maybe we can be humiliated by NC State in the Beef O’Brady’s bowl or famous Idaho potato bowl? Maybe Riley’s offense can average 70 points per game to make up for our lack of defense? It’s safe to say I’m pissed off right now. I’m sick of the mediocrity. Looks like another year of it.

    • curt gomer says:

Understand your frustration, i was hoping MS would be replaced to but it really was laughable to think he would go to a school with a history of good defense like LSU. Maybe now that JM is co/dc and with new position coaches our D can turn it around. Still believe Kish is gone.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

Sounds like your season tickets may be available.

  • cjsooner says:

Ferguson looks very raw from his film to me but there’s a lot to like. Seems like he has good size and speed. His strength appears to be his speed rushing the passer so I was thinking outside linebacker, but he appears to be playing DE in a 3-4 defense and shows ability to get off tackles, shed blockers and make plays. Maybe he could be an inside linebacker. Not sure how his coverage ability is though. What are we recruiting him as K? What’s your analysis of him? And how many LB’s do we take for this class?

  • Stephen says:

Maybe I’m wrong but A.D. Miller reminds me too much of Jaz Reynolds.

  • hOUligan says:

Was waiting for an offer to Dwaine Thomas but Kish told him there are other offers out. Now Monty is talking with Javahn Fergurson and Thomas is taking officials to a&m and tech the next couple of weekends. Guess that ship sailed, too.

  • Super Keith says:

    Whoops….wrong thread.
