OU/KSU & Week 8 Prediction Thread

Image via NewsOK

Another big slate of games and though it has clearly lost some of its luster from a national perspective, none bigger (for us) than the one going down in Big D tomorrow. I don’t even want to entertain the idea of what losing this game would mean, so we’ll just power through knowing that type of a result would set of an absolute firestorm.

I’ll throw out some suggestions, feel free to ignore them if you’d like, then you all can have at it in the comments section.

Suggested Predictions:

1. True or false – The coaching staff will be able to read the writing on the wall knowing a loss in this game effectively ruins this 2014 season and pull out all the stops in order to win this damn game. (This is literally word-for-word from last week and I’m leaving it unchanged for reasons I’m quite certain you can figure out on your own)
2. K-State is one of the best in the country and defending the run, so this game will almost assuredly come down to Trevor Knight throwing the ball. Give me your prediction on his final stat line
3. Over/under – 99.5 yards rushing for Samaje Perine
4. Yes or no – Blake Bell will have a touchdown catch
5. Over/under – 3.5 sacks for the OU D on Jake Waters
6. _____ is the number of all-purpose yards OU has to hold Tyler Lockett to for him not to be the determining factor in this game
7. Over/under – 0.5 touches for Dimitri Flowers #FreeTheTree
8. ______ will lead the team in tackles
9. Your offensive player of the game will be ______. Your defensive player of the game will be _____.
10. Your OU/KSU final score is….
11. Will Baylor make it out of Morgantown still undefeated?
12. Does Ok. State have any chance in Fort Worth?

As always, feel free to add whatever other predictions you have for the weekend in the comments below.

    3. Over (barely)
    4. Yes
    5. Under
    6. 125 yds.
    7. Under
    8. Jordan Evans
    9. Duron Neal/Jordan Evans
    10. 31-27 OU
    11. No
    12. Yes

  • Krys Allen says:

I predict we will run nearly the exact same game plan we have run the past two games. KSU will get up on us early because Lockett will run wild on us yet again. We play from behind most of the first half, slowly gain a lead in the second and end up winning by 1 point as Kstate misses a last second field goal. Sad but most likely what will happen.

  • Goodness…those are tough to even try to predict. It all depends on which Heupel shows up. Can he get Knight into a rhythm with good play calling? If he can, we have a chance. But if we get super conservative and play tight, we will lose…and it will be ugly.

    • Sooner_Ace says:

Heupel does not adjust if his intial “plan” doesn’t work, then it takes FOREVER to adjust to what the defense is doing….I have no faith that he can adjust in game.

    • Jordan Esco says:

That’s the fun in it tho 😉

      • Then I am tired of “fun”…and want to get back to playing complete football. Both sides of the ball have looked rather ugly this year. This has been a very frustrating season to watch up to this point.

    • Dana Rogers says:

      Spot on.

  • Grant Benson says:

    1. False
    2. 18/33 – 241 yards – 0 TD 0 INT, 6 ATT 31 yards (5 scrambles, 1 keep)
    3. Under
    4. No
    5. Over
    6. 135
    7. Under
    8. Jordan Evans
    9. Sterling Shepard/Quentin Hayes
    10. 31-24 OU
    11. Yes
    12. Yes

  • Steve Johns says:

My crazy prediction: Shep moves back to his natural slot position; at least one of Mead, Smallwood,or Todd will start at WR. OU wins 34-24

  • Zack says:

I predict Snyder will not kick to alex ross.
I predict 5 fair catches from shep and 12 return yards.
I predict 200+ rushing for ou.
I predict that Lockett will not lead ksu in receiving yards or receptions.

I think ou will win because I am not impressed by teams “who almost beat _____”

  • Ash Jones says:

If Knight finds other receivers not named Shep and uses that kid Bell in the middle this game is over by halftime. OU has too much talent to waste time pussyfooting around. Go deep and then choke them out with Perine and Ross. OU 38 KSU 17. Lock of the year.

  • rphokc says:

I expect a frustrating game………..have no idea who wins

    • Zack says:

I think ou will play better. It’s the first home game in over a month so that may be what this team needs to get back on track.
But if the play calling is the same you are right

      • rphokc says:

…….zack, I’ve always wondered how kids could get excited to play football at 11am………I don’t like even watching sports that early, but they’re young and I’m not

        • disqus_uj44WuVjt2 says:

Move to the East coast and you don’t start watching until noon. If you go to church on Sundays you don’t gave to rush home to catch the kick-off…

  • Cush Creekmont says:

    1) False – they already think what they are doing is correct
    2) More running than is thought. TK 61% (14 pf 23) for 222 yds
    3) just over (102) but there are several other contributors
    4) yes
    5) over – actually 2 are TKL for loss because he was running, but go as sacks.
    6) 220 – he will have his share, but not make TDs
    7) over – he gets 1
    8) Alexander
    9) TK (+300 yd total off) Def player by media = Striker; by importance = Phillips
    10) 34 – 16
    11) not sure – seems 50/50, but if I must answer I say yes
    12) yes. TCU could have a hangover from pooping the 4th qtr in Waco – cowgirls have 20% “chance” in FT Worth.

  • Jason Vos says:

Is Trevor Knight still the QB? Then I would be very very worried about this game. Thats all the prediction I need

  • Dallas Johnson says:

For Braggin rights in Topeka, KS.. COME ON SOONERS…LETS GET THIS DONE!!! The coaching staff realizes their backs are against the wall and Knight comes out of his slump Another receiver not named Shepherd has a big day and a TD. Bell Doesn’t get a TD.. but has a good day over the middle.. and Dimitri has a couple nice catches in the flat with some nice YAC.. Samaje is held to under 100 yards rushing.. but The Dark Knight comes up big with a few nice runs this game. Coach Mike finally Unleashes the TITANS up front and Striker has a couple sacks and the defense creates some pressure.. Waters is able to get some yards rushing and Lockett has some big plays.. but not enough as the SOONERS Come out victorious 31-21… BOOMER!!!!!

  • Fort Smith Okie says:

I’ve lost faith in JH and have concerns about Bob’s continued confidence in him. I say continued, because the game plan appears to remain the same.
Game-planning to protect Knight, to the point you force him to ignore his instinct, is like playing prevent defense — it just prevents you from winning.

Anyone who thought this was a Top 25 D without Frank Shannon was deluding themselves.

    1) I think it’s probable they’re to obstinate or arrogant to believe it.
    2) No clue
    3) Under (unless we see some more creative play calling)
    4) No
    5) I put it at 3, so under.
    6) 150 or less
    7) -1
    8) Me
    9) Group award to the OL/Dom
    10) 38-34
    11) Yes, and they will threaten to put up more combined points than TCU/Baylor
    12) I think OSU goes 2-4 at best to finish this season and this is a L

  • Jeff Huelskamp says:

I try to stay positive and not bash anyone, but the longer OU struggles on offense, the more I have a feeling Bob may “help” Josh find another opportunity come this offseason. Just like Long, Wilson, etc. etc. While this may be what the masses want, I am equally as leery of the unknown (a new OC) as I am the known. Just gotta sit back and watch it unfold I guess…

    • Eric Hoffpauir says:

I can’t imagine that Stoops helped Wilson out. He’s one of the most successful coordinators OU has ever had.

    • disqus_uj44WuVjt2 says:

Depends on whether BS id afraid or not and if he isn’t can JH create some decent play calling. Do not run Ross up the middle and find someone other than Shep to throw to.

  • Doobie74OU says:

    1. True – Barely, I think they will pull out some of the stops but not all and we will still be a bit frustrated come Sunday.
    2. 20 of 32 for 250 yds and 2 TDS 13 rushes for 65 yds
3.Under – I think we will get our rushing but they will be split between Perine, Ross, and Knight.
    4. Yes – Bell is becoming more active in the offense and he is a big red zone target with great hands
    5. Over – Mike Steps up pressure and we get 5 sacks
    6. 175 yds – Sounds like a lot but with all the ways he touches the ball that would be pretty good
    7. Over – 3 touches for Flowers
    8. Jordan Evans
    9. Knight and Sanchez
    10. 38 – 27 OU wins
    11. Headline reads “Mountaineers Maul the Bears in Morgantown” High Scoring Game!
    12. Yes – Especially is Boykin doesn’t run much because of his hand! OSU 27 – 24

  • Ed Cotter says:

Contain Waters, and limit his access to Lockett, who OU must also keep under wraps in the return game will give OU a very good chance to in this game. About time to see Knight be a threat in the run game. Keep that KSU defense honest, and then the stuff down the field will be seriously open.

  • Bill says:

    1. T
    2. 25-35; 3TD’s; 1Pick (should have been caught)
    3. Over (goes over 100 with less than 6 minutes left in game)
    4. No
    5. Over (see #9)
    6. 200 (only weapon they will have)
    7. Over
    8. Dom Evans or is it Jordan Alexander?
    9. Knight/Bond
    10. 41-17
    11. Yes
    12. Yes, will be a close game

  • Sooner_Ace says:

Prediction: Pain …. the only questions is OUrs or theirs…..sigh

  • SamSooner says:

Here’s a question for you: What would OU’s receiving corp look like with Metoyer?

  • Bob Browning says:

Baylor will absolutely blitz WVa. I see a win by at least 25+ points.

  • bill w says:

    1. False–not necessary. They are home and will play inspired football

    2. 16/30 (that’s about his % right) for 265 yds, 3 td/0 int; 5 rushes for 35 yds./1 td

    3. Over 152 yds

    4. Yes, Kansas boy gets a reward against KSU

    5. 6 sacks and lots of hurries. Defense is unleashed on the edges.

    6. 150 yds.

    7. under (0); alas, Flowers is so much like Millard that he will be under-utilized again

    8. Jordan Evans

    9. Offense: it should be the OL, but since not acceptable, it will be TK for playing a good game; Defense: Jordan Philips will be a constant disruption (another Kansas boy), and since home, his back will feel better than normal

    10. OU 41 – KSU 28 (1 td during garbage time to make it appear closer than actually was)

    11. Baylor stays unblemished. The Nov. 8 game will be for all the marbles and a trip to the playoffs for the winner.

    12. About as much chance as a sheep tangled in a fence in Stillwater

  • Randy White says:

i predict the team will have find spiritual guidence from each other. OU team chaplain was arrested. Geez, I hate when things like this happen. Bad mojo for the team!!

    • Jed says:

Why on earth does our team need a ‘Team Chaplain’? It’s not as though there aren’t churchs, preachers, religiously oriented tv and radio etc falling over each other in our state.
Our team needs to slim down the number of hangers on that surrounds it. How ’bout we add a massage therapist instead of the ‘chaplain’ and let the players, and their families, look after their spiritual needs?

      • Randy White says:

Heck, during my four tours in Vietnam we had chaplains telling us we were doing “Gods Work” by killing his enemies. Having one for a football team seems harmless to me. i just hate when adults involved with this team don’t lead by example.

        • boomersooner says:

Yeah. We had baseball chapel cause its kinda hard in season to get to church. Thank you so very much for your service and the freedom to be a smarty pants on blogs like this’un

        • paganpink says:

          They were right.

  • Jo Nathan Reynolds says:

    10. 34 – 26. Oklahoma
    11. No!
    12. No.

  • FlatLander says:

    1. True. But it could just as easily be false ( square peg meet round hole with a hammer)
    2. 17 – 30 for 290 yards, 2TD, 0 ints.
    3. Under.
    4. Yes.
    5. Over.
    6. 70. That will keep him a bit under his average.
    7. Over.
    8. Jordan Evans.
    9. Knight / Striker.
    10. OU: 27 KSU: 13
    11. Yep.
    12. Very little, if any. TCU could be pretty tired after their last two games.

  • rphokc says:

………on another note, welcome back to norman…….

    ……..http://newsok.com/article/5357432

  • BleedCrimson says:

    1. close to true, but still have a quarter or half of putting the square peg in round hole with the same hammer.
    2. 21/35 310 3TD 0int
    3. over, 175yds for Optimus Tonka
    4. yes, blake gets a TD
    5. over, 5 sacks

    9. Perine/jordan
    10. 35/21
    11. yes, BU wins big.
    12. TCU wins by 14.

  • RBear says:

    1. All the stops? No- There will be obvious “wrinkles” but they won’t be effective enough to satisfy the justifiably rabid fans. What does happen is that the players bail out the game plan and overcome the poor play calling by having some pretty stellar individual performances.
    2. 22-33, 333 yds and 4 scores.
    3. under- 73 yds and 2 TD
    4. yes- Bell gets a 2 TD
    5. over, 4 sacks
    6. 180 or less all purpose yds
    7. over, 3 touches
    8. Jordan Evans
    9. Bell/Evans
    10. 45/31
    11. Yes
    12. There’s always a chance but they lose by 10.

  • Ed Cotter says:

I just want a victory….Is that too much to ask for?

  • Big Higg says:

I predict k st qb has a career day. We seem to bring out the best in opposing qb’s

  • JJsooner1 says:

    1. True: The alternative is way too ugly.
    2. 20-36, 250yds, 1 td passing, 1 td running.
    3. Under @ 90, 1 td, 2 recep for 30.
    4. Yes 3 receptions, 37 yds.
    5. Over, 4 sacks 6 hurries, 12 hits
    6. 140
    7. Over

    8. Alexander
    9. TK / Striker
    10. OU 34 – KSU 20
    11. Nope
    12. Likely not

  • Dana Rogers says:

Over on the Perine thing (but not the deciding factor)… so to win this dang thing – Let Knight be Knight! They gotta free him up to be what he is and IMO that a dang DUAL THREAT QB. Coach H – no more handcuffs!

  • Stephen Dale says:

OU has to be the most overrated and disappointing team in D-1 football so far this season. This Sooner edition is going to struggle to win 7 games. A trip to the Tidy Bowl in Shreveport appears to be the best this group can hope for.
