Keith Ford Injury Update

During his weekly meeting with the media, Bob Stoops said Keith Ford continues to make progress and that they were “hopeful to have him back by the end of this week.”

So assuming things continue to move in a positive direction, it would appear safe to presume, with the benefit of the bye this week, Ford could return for the Iowa State game.

Stoops did not provide any other specific injury updates to players like Charles Walker and/or Derrick Woods, but did say “everyone should be available to practice today” in reference to those who suffered an injury during Saturday’s game against Kansas State (i.e. Blake Bell, Samaje Perine, Trevor Knight, Sterling Shepard, etc.).

Although some have already broke out their ‘jump to conclusion’ mats in speculating over Stoops’ refusal to provide an update on Knight after word of his left arm being in a sling following the game and his unavailability for today’s press conference.

I’ve said it since his injury, I don’t think Keith Ford plays again this year.

You could be right, but that would seem to be in direct contradiction to what Stoops implied today.

And while I think there is an argument to be made that w/ two losses you just hold him out and hope you can get a medical redshirt, I’ve followed this program long enough to know there’s no chance in hell of that happening.

If he can play, they’ll play him.

Stoops is the king of misdirection. Surprised you haven’t learned that by now. Stoops is the one who was telling everyone that he would be back in 2-3 weeks when the injury occurred. I actually LOL’d when he said that in the presser.

…just curious, you still on oui?

As a former physical therapist, I knew that was BS the minute Bob said it. It takes 6-8 weeks for a broken bone to heal…if there are no complications or surgeries required. I know he needs to keep future opponents guessing about our personnel, so it didn’t surprise me.

I know it is popular for just about everyone to try and decipher what they think coaches are “trying to hide” or misdirect. Personally I’m not much into speculation or conspiracy theories. Like I use to tell my little brother. “Time takes care of everything, rather it be bad or good, truth or lie.” When the missing guys walk on the practice field, whenever that might be, I will welcome them back. Until then, may the healthy guys and backups find that next level.

Won’t matter with regard to getting a medical redshirt. He won’t be here that long.

Actually more worried about TK than Ford. If Ford is available for practice next week and at ISU, great. If Perine and Ross can handle the load and get the W, give Ford more rest/limited carries against ‘Clones so he is full speed down the stretch against Tech, Baylor and Ostate.

Having Ford back will be a relief; the other RBs have done great but Ford will open up the playbook more.

  • Mr. Jones says:

Any updates or feedback from Townsend or Murray from their visit Saturday?

    • Stephen Dale says:

Mr Jones…………..Townsend most likely is going to Texas ; Murray is an aTm commit and i don’t expect him to change allegience to another school now…….OU needs LB’ers . QB’s they have in abundance.

      • JB says:

We need CBs too…in the worst way

        • Zack says:

I would say we need safeties more than corners. We have some good young corners but they’re sticking with Wilson because he’s a senior and he really hasn’t been that bad.
They really like Jordan Thomas and Marcus green was having good things said about him in august. And I’m sure Tito will get some attention in spring and through next years training camp.

          • Super Keith says:

I think we’re good at Safety for this class (with Sunderland already committed). We may take one more, but If we only get Sunderland, I think we’re in really good shape there (just inexperienced).

          • Zack says:

I think we have talent at safety and you’re right about inexperience hopefully this year goes a long way in developing these guys. But we only have 3 guys who will be returning next year (if they choose) Byrd, Parker and Thomas. No mcquinnie and with marcus green getting praised in camp at corner I doubt he moves like many thought he would.
But I think we will get another safety or 2. And at least one corner.

    • Jordan Esco says:

I’d pretty much agree w/ everything Stephen said

  • Boom says:

Amazing that we’ve only completed 1 pass to a RB down field. Ford caught it out of the diamond and got blown up cause TK threw it a little high. It was a seem and we sure could use that again.

  • Will Narramore says:

We are really feeling the loss of Charles Walker in my opinion. Kid could get in the backfield and just needed the reps to take the next step. Sucks he has been out this long

  • Stephen Dale says:

JB……..would agree about CB’s except Mike Stoops is opting for large corners rather than ‘shut-down’ corners so until M. S. is gone, OU is not going to play ‘press’ coverage that SEC teams , as well as Texas, play and have success with. For whatever reason, Stoops likes ‘zone’ coverage CB;s and he apparantly is comfortable giving the short passing yardage that has bled OU’s defense all season. Personally I disagree with M.S.’s scheme but , until a different db coach is controlling recruiting, CB recruiting will remain a lesser need position than say, LB/DE/NT/QB/WR..Just me. but MS, and Venables before him, are not comfortable coaching SEC style pressure defensive football. As a result, it is more difficult for OU’s defense to get off the field using MS’s current schemes. What you see with MS are larger, lankier CB’s who give up quickness for run-game tackling support. And one doesn’t have to have the elite cover guys when the emphasis is not coverage skills.
