AP All-Big 12 Selections Announced

The Associated Press released their All-Big 12 selections Monday afternoon, and there were a number of Sooners represented. Most prominently among them, as you’d probably expect, was running back Samaje Perine. The OU true freshman was named the AP’s Offensive Newcomer of the Year and was also a unanimous first-team selection.

Joining Perine on the first-term were fellow Sooners; Daryl Williams (OL), Eric Striker (LB) & Zack Sanchez (DB).

Oklahoma also placed several players on the second-team including; Tyrus Thompson (OL), Sterling Shepard (WR), Jordan Phillips (DL) & Dominique Alexander (LB).

You can see the full list of selections here, including TCU taking home both the offensive and defensive player of the year awards, respectively. Decent year for the Horned Frogs I’d say.

So what say you? Any obvious snubs in your mind on the part of OU? Or are you satisfied with the names you do see?

It seems quite reasonable to OU. Shep had no chance with 4 lost games to be 1st team. The two OU O-linemen are deserving and about right. Considering OUr defensive play, I think Striker, Sanchez and Alexander are very lucky to be where they are. Phillips seems about right.

Mixed feelings about Sanchez. Amplified by his political statement of “hands up” which has been disproven and is needlessly divisive. He should focus on learning how to tackle.

    • Sooner_Ace says:

Saw the hands up gesture was hoping he was just showing the OU logo on the gloves, oh well

      • hOUligan says:

Have seen him do a similar gesture prior to Ferguson so not sure. Also not sure he deserved 1st team.

        • Indy_sooner says:

Not sure what your logic here is… kid was a midseason AA closing out his season atop the B12 (6 int and 85 Tackles). Curious, who, in your opinion should go over him? Diggs? (3 int, 59 Tackles), Kevin white? (4/ 95). As much controversy, with/ without my crimson shades can’t deny he’s a ball hawk

        • Clint Lenard says:

Yes it was not hands up don’t shoot, that’s just what some hopeful (both sides) were hoping. It was a “nothing wrong” gesture…

    • Greg sparks says:

      Please not here….

    • Jordan Esco says:

Yes, we’re not going to get into the political side of things. That’s not what this forum is here for. Thank you for understanding.

Hands Up does not bother me.

  • Navy_UDT says:

I think Sanchez proved he knows how to tackle on Saturday, in case you missed it and were worried about his “hands up” solidarity statement. Is this a free country or are we continuing to lose all of our freedoms slowly?

Is this a free country or are we continuing to lose all of our freedoms slowly?

      Yes to both

    • SoonerfanTU says:

My boss doesn’t allow me to make such “statements” at work. I know OU football isn’t a job, per se, but in a way, it is, and he is representing OU when he is on the field. What he does off the field is his own business.

    • Stephen says:

You have to be careful on a topic like this, it can spiral out of hand easily. That said, football isn’t contained to just the rules and motions of the game. There is a lot of self-expression to be seen, with some players more than others. As long as that self-expression isn’t aimed at offending anyone, we should do our best to respect and understand it. Also, I feel like the Boz could better explain this.

    • Indy_sooner says:

I don’t know what the hands up thing was. I thought he ws flagged for throwing the ball at that Aggie.
Now his hit was bananas. I still cant believe we sh!t the bed after having so many highlights. Ridiculous.

      • Greg sparks says:

And that was a BS call he pointed at the puke and tossed him their ball..

      • SavageSoonerEsq says:

“I still cant believe we sh!t the bed after having so many highlights. Ridiculous.”

Sadly, I can believe it. And yes, it is ridiculous.

    • Travis Coyle says:

Lol, how many times have you seen Zach Sanchez do the shoulder hit and not wrap up then the guy not do down. Good hit though.

    • SoonerSouthoftheRed says:

Good hit…of course that receiver was maybe 150 lbs.

    • Gary Jackson says:

Yeah, I caught that “hands up” bit. Figured that was what he was doing.

    • Rene Goupillaud says:

There are plenty of things to object to that are worse than a college student protesting, in uniform or not.

  • hOUligan says:

From the results of the season, if anything, feel OU is fortunate to get that many. Perine and Williams, def., maybe Thompson. Rip if they put in a FB position. Agree with others, defensive players named to 1st very fortunate.

  • Greg sparks says:

Was the football press conference today? Or did we drop football for lacrosse..

    • Indy_sooner says:

Esco said earlier that there will be no presser. Go figure

      • OUhound says:

I’m not exactly sure what there would be to say, and i am absolutely certain that i would not want to hear it anyway

    • Jordan Esco says:

What Indy said, Bob did not hold a presser today. Won’t until shortly before the bowl game.

      • hushnpa says:

maybe that’s a good thing ,, maybe he’s ticked enough to do something

      • Stephen Dale says:

no reason to hold a press conference. nothing good to report. BGB didn’t want to take questions about the most disappointing season in his 16 yrs at the helm….don’t blame him; I wouldn’t either.

    • soonerschooner says:

There is never a presser after the final game…coaches leave on Sunday to hit recruiting trail before dead period

  • JB says:

No snubs. We were lucky to get anyone besides Perine and Striker on the list.

    • SCKSChief says:

Honestly expected Striker on the Second Team. Perine was THE lone OU player deserving of First Team.

  • akryan says:

A little surprised about Sanchez. He was torched in a few games. He was abused at WVU. While he has been an undeniable ball hawk (which is what must have gotten him selected), his tackling has been atrocious. I will give him a little bit of a pass for that because I still think that his shoulder isn’t totally healed which makes it hard to wrap up. That must have been a close vote. The frustrating thing about Phillips is that there is no reason that with his size and athleticism he couldn’t have been first team if he had been utilized and/or coached better. Ugh. I guess I won’t beat the dead horse with more comments that have been said a million times here.

  • Stephen Dale says:

Perine probably was the only Sooner deserving of being 1st team…certainly not Sanchez.

  • Stephen Dale says:

Perine was the only Sooner deserving of 1st team recognition…Sanchez whiffs too much to be considered 1st team ……………..

  • SCKSChief says:

How did Alexander make Second Team? Seriously. Not that I hate the kid, I’m just amazed ANYONE from that dumpster fire of a defense was even noticed…like at all. I’m not trying to be a prick either. Just shocked. Moreso, not sure how Sanchez or even Striker got First Team.
