GoT does it again. Man, what a great show.

138 more agonizingly boring days until OU Football returns to our lives, sigh.

FOOTBALL

You can also find the full game on HolaKyle’s YouTube page, but here is the highlight package he put together (wonderfully well done, as usual).

I couldn’t disagree more strongly with the first ‘thing we learned from the spring game’ here. (NewsOK)

I know it’s been mentioned on the site many times now, but in the off chance someone out there hasn’t seen it yet. This somewhat ominious quote from Stoops on Frank Shannon’s current status does not sound very good, in my opinion. “Frank (Shannon) right now is working through some personal issues,” Stoops said. “So we’ll wait and see on that.” – (NewsOK)

As they should be (even before this Shannon stuff), the coaches are concerned about the lack of depth at ILB. (Tulsa World)

Baker Mayfield provides some insight into his decision to come to OU. (Tulsa World)

The fan turnout on Saturday was a sign of just how excited Sooner Nation is about this program right now. (Transcript)

Men’s gymnastics finished a somewhat disappointing second as a team in the NCAA Championships over the weekend, but did bring home three individual national championships. (Sooner Sports)

Sadly, the baseball team got their arses handed to them by Texas over the weekend. (Sooner Sports)

Meanwhile, softball picked up a nice series win over Baylor taking two-of-three in Waco. (Sooner Sports)

I think mixon is going to get his time in the middle or later parts of the season early on he may need time to adjust to the speed. I wonder if this team is going to throw the ball more than 20-25 times a game. With all the running backs, the running qb and Millard 2.0 I don’t see them throwing a whole lot.

  • SoonerPhins says:

Ford will be the starting running back IMO and back up duties will be split evenly until someone comes away as the clear 2nd string. Im not to worried about Knight having a down spring game. I would like to see the Diamond formation with Flowers, Ford, Knight, and Rip, could be a punishing set.

    • Zack says:

I think they’ll be able to do a lot with the diamond formation this year as long as heupel shows some imagination. I know we didn’t get to see bell out there to see his overall game at TE but if he’s solid enough to block like rip then they could be even more dangerous with bell in the diamond with an obvious threat to throw.

    • Gregor says:

I am sure there will be those that will compare Knight to Winston’s spring game or even Manziel’s of year’s past, but I just don’t expect a QB that runs an offense that is predicated on him moving outside of the pocket to do well in a scrimmage environment. There was virtually no chance of Knight breaking the game open with his legs. This affects his decision making. It affects the way the defense is playing.

He has never been accused of being Sam Bradford in the pocket. Likewise, with the patchwork line and inexperienced receiving corps we utilized on Saturday, Sam Bradford would not likely look like Sam Bradford, either. Well, maybe the NFL version of Sam Bradford that doesn’t have an OL or a receiving corps.

      • Eric Hoffpauir says:

Sam Bradford didn’t look like Sam Bradford in the 2008 spring game, for example. We were worried that the offense was a little shaky and superconfident about the defense after that game…

…….re Shannon………is tfb hearing any rumors that he is caught up in legal/paternity issues…..thxs

    • Jordan Esco says:

I’m aware those rumors are out there, but when it comes to a player’s personal situation I generally stay away from speculating about it publicly. If something tangible comes out then I feel like it’s fair game. But until then, I’ll respect his right to some privacy.

  • Jason Vos says:

What are our chances with Jaylon Lane?

    • Jordan Esco says:

Very good right now as I understand it. I’m sure K can elaborate, but I think OU is in really strong position right now for both Lane & Mbanasor.

  • Sooner_Ace says:

Random Question: Does anyone think that TK9 will be one of those QB’s who doesn’t wow anyone in practices or exhibition games (i.e. Spr Game), but things seem to click during game time?

    As always…Boomer!

    • SoonerPhins says:

I think he does well in practice, but that defense knows the play book, knows the ins and outs of Knights motions, calls, style, that it could be predictable as to what he would do. I wouldn’t think to much into it.

      • Zack says:

Also he is missing his top 10 players with receptions last year so it’s basically all new guys since shepherd and Neal were out.

      • pitbull17 says:

That and once he’s touched, he’s down. In a real game situation he’s going to have the opportunity to keep moving and as we got to see last year he’s pretty elusive.

    • soonermusic says:

yeah, he has had a very strong reputation for wowing people in practices, for sure. The Spring Game is its own thing, and I wouldn’t worry to much about it as far as providing a true measuring stick.

  • DrZemus says:

Having Baker around just seems to make everyone better. I’d real happy we have him.

  • Zack says:

Well I guess we know now why fehoko didn’t make it to ou. Committed to tech

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

OT: Texas Tech’s QB Webb threw for 354 in their Spring Game. That doesn’t sound good for their defense, if they know every offensive play…

  • Ryan says:

AT LEAST 1 COMMITMENT PLEASE!!! THAT’S ALL I’M ASKING FOR!!!

  • Borba22 says:

If Mixon is able to pick up the offense when he gets here, I think he gets his fair share of playing time with his ability to catch out of the backfield and create in open space.

  • Borba22 says:

Also, disappointed in the 2nd place finish for our Men’s Gymnastics. Looking forward to seeing what Women’s Gymnastics and Men’s Tennis can do in the post season.
