As I’ve done in the past, whenever Bob Stoops meets with the media — typically every Monday during the season — we’ll do our best to provide you with live updates. Of course, you can always watch live thanks to Sooner Sports TV. Things get started around noon, so feel free to check back around then and come hang out with us in the comments below.

  • Jordan Esco says:

“I feel more relaxed, I feel more confident the way things are going to go this first game.” -Trevor Knight

  • Jordan Esco says:

    Here comes Bobby

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: (La Tech) is a good solid football team that plays well in all aspects of the game.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Bob says this is the healthiest fall they’ve ever had in his time here.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: The direction of the offense – not having 2 QBs and tailoring
things to 2 different guys is going to lead to more consistency w/ the offense.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: Defensively, much further along. Last year, putting in 50 front
at this time where as now we are in great shape with what we want to do.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: Frank Shannon, at this point, nothing has changed. That situation is still unresolved.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: Dannon Cavil, Jordan Smallwood are guys with some good height at WR. Going to keep all those guys available

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: Dorial Green-Beckham returning in 2015 isn’t something that’s been decided. Right now, it seems to be what he wants

    • Rees Bear says:

Funny… Dean Blevins just stated on his sportscast that Stoops was less than emphatic about DGB sticking around for next year. His report clearly implied that DGB was all but gone.

Once again, Deano proving that he’s still #2.

      • Jordan Esco says:

That’s b/c, IMO, this scenario makes the most sense so he’ll guess now and hope that he’s right knowing even if he’s not (1) very few, if any ppl will remember him saying this now and/or (2) there will be no (as there never are) repercussions for him being wrong (yet again).

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops on freshman: Samaje Perine is a guy that definitely will play. Quick, Parker, Jordan Thomas also set to play.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: Julian Wilson at corner went “as good as we could’ve hoped for.”

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops says freshman Marcus Green’s use will depend on whether he can get enough snaps to help him improve. Won’t use him just to use him.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: Keith Ford and Alex Ross are pretty close (in terms of the competition). Will watch how they do in first few games for separation

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops on Jordan Evans: He’s looked really good. Held out early because of illness, but stronger … he’s been solid.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: LB depth is a concern. Rashod Favors could fit in somewhere if need be.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: Bell has been strong at TE, but will improve through season with more game experience

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: Cody Thomas had a minor muscle strain. He was throwing Thursday and Friday. Expected to be full-on today at practice.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: Part of Wilson to corer equation was ‘who would you rather rush’ Julian or Eric Striker?

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: “We’ll see” on how quick second QB gets in.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: Bell throwing in practice due to Thomas’ situation and wanting to redshirt Justice Hansen, Baker Mayfield’s situation still up in the air

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops on Bell getting QB reps: “Never hurts to have an emergency plan.”

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops expressing sympathy for both Bradford & Ikard who are out for the season w/ knee injuries.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: Everything is a disappointment to me if we don’t win a national championship.

    • Jackson1006 says:

Wow. That was a slip. He is usually much more “…if we win big xii…” Etc. Showing his real ambitions and mostly his true confidence with a quote like that. I guess he feels as good about the team as the hype around it. boomer!

      • Zack says:

There was more coach speak after that comment. Saying he knows they can’t win every year but that’s the goal.

      • Jordan Esco says:

Personally, I loved it. While I’m fully aware it’s an unrealistic expectation, that is exactly mine for every season and I’m quite sure I am not alone. So to hear Bob admit as much, even if it’s just coach speak, I loved it.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: No plan on alternate unis. Captains and AD might make decision.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: Baker Mayfield has received enough reps to be in the mix at QB if he gets approved to play immediately

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: La. Tech’s fluid QB situation doesn’t affect OU’s game plan much since Sokol and Higgins are so similar in their style of play.

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: Josiah St. John has really been coming on at LT

  • Jordan Esco says:

Stoops: Belldozer package is still available. “How much, we’ll see …”

  • Jordan Esco says:

    That’s a wrap for today.

    • Zack says:

Hey jordan, not sure if you were gonna share the tweet about jalen Saunders having a seizure before practice or where. Do we know if he has epilepsy? I’m not trying to speculate just a condition I take seriously because my dad has it and wonder how that would affect him playing football.

      • paganpink says:

It was on the 15th and this is the first I heard about it. They said it was in his car on the way to practice so that should rule out heatstroke. He spent two days in the hospital and is now fully cleared, but with no explanation I take it?

        • barry says:

id like to throw in the possibility of ‘highway hypnosis” although i don’t all the details. its basically that he couldnt react to making a turn after a stretch of driving straight.

  • Josh says:

5 Days Till Football Time in Oklahoma!!! Boomer!!
    1976 Orange Bowl MVP
    1974 and 1975 National Champions
    32-1-1
If I can have one guy start a game for me at QB it would be this man, all he did was win football games… In my opinion he is the greatest of all time… The late Mr. Steve Davis

  • Mike Reed says:

Thanks for the updates Jordan!! Wasn’t able to hear the presser.

  • leatherneck1061 says:

Great coverage Jordan! Not sure how you find the time to give such detailed notes like this, but it’s appreciated by those of us who can’t see the presser for ourselves!

  • Cory Reedy says:

“Healthiest fall since I’ve (Stoops) been here.” THAT is a GREAT sign. We have had WAYYY too many injuries the past few years.

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

I’d bet that there’s a connection to this and the fact that Schmidt says that this is one of the best off seasons the players have had since he’s been here…

      • Baron Boomer says:

I think the nutrition is actually equally as beneficial this time round….

        • ToatsMcGoats says:

Agreed. They do go hand in hand. It’s really up to the players, and since they have been taking full advantage, this is the result.

  • OUZach says:

What’s up with Eddy’s shot? Safe to say that Josh M is the only one that you are cordial with, Jordan?

  • J J says:

Oh Bob, how you make Mindays better.,

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

The way Stoops answers dumb questions from the media is too funny.

    • Jed says:

it’s the answers, yes, but more importantly, it’s THE LOOK.
The look that communicates completely his contempt for the moron asking him such mindless drivel. You know he’d like very much the ability to send the journo in question off to run a brisk 40-50 sets of stadium steps.

  • JrsySooner says:

I say come out in the wishbone.for the first play in honor of James Garner
Ford Ross Flowers in the bone….

    • Jed says:

I’ve always wanted us to line up in the bone for a conversion against UT late in a slaughter.
Just to make the point clear to them.

    • Big Higg says:

I’m thinkin Rip, Flowers, and Perine. I’d rate that group up there with “unstoppable force.”

  • boomersooner says:

Saw someone mention something about a website to watch games live for free. Anyone know what it is? Please

    • barry says:

these websites are usually ‘illegal’ sites, and it is hard to find a PPV stream on them in the past years. I don’t know if anyone on a legit site like this will openly tell you where a stream to the game is in a case like this. Most times if you dont have cable and the game is on fox or espn you can find a online stream that will show the game but finding a PPV one is hard. if you find one id like to know!

      • boomersooner says:

        Thanks

        • barry says:

two sites that regularly stream without consideration for who knows about it are firstrowsports and vipbox. a google search and and a little investigation will help you find the exact sites you are looking for. please be careful navigating these places but once you find the niche you will be ok

    • Rees Bear says:

Call around to your local watering holes, see if they’ll be airing the game- maybe a Casino Sports Bar???

      • boomersooner says:

Few and far between in SLC. We got bars but they don’t care about OU v La tech. Internet radio I suppose is the way to go. Thanks for the ideas tho
