Sooners Wide Receiver To Transfer

Oklahoma redshirt freshman wide receiver, Dannon Cavil, announced Wednesday evening via his Twitter account that he will be seeking a transfer.

A late addition to OU’s 2013 class, a big kid at 6’5″ with the size this Sooners offense has clearly needed on the outside but things just never really came together or Cavil during his time in Norman.

Best of luck to the young man wherever he eventually winds up.

From my perspective announcing with five regular season games and a bowl game remaining he tells me he had already emotionally quit. I would think that he should be busting his arse to get on the field until seasons end. For certain the opportunity to earn playing time is there. You don’t just fold your tent. With his mental approach to the game a transfer is good for him and very good for OU. I wish him success in his future but perceive he may be like Jameel Owens and never produce at any school unless he goes Division II or III.

I will be interested to see where he’s trying to transfer to. Utsa? Stephen f Austin? I hope it’s a d1 school so we can see if bob is going to allow him immediate eligibility.

I agree that the timing of this seems strange but maybe there’s a reason regarding eligilbility that makes sense. I also think it’s important to remember that every young man who comes to OU was a stud in HS and the transition to competing against players just as good if not better can be physically and mentally difficult. Often the reason one player gets time on the field and another doesn’t has less to do with ability and more about trust and how well the coaches like the player. Sports is a metaphor for life and this is a lesson he will hopefully grow from. I wish him all the best and hope the future exceeds his desires.

OU just loaded up on height last cycle. Looks like where we are ‘short’ is on WRs with the speed to stretch the field like Baylor. And agree the timing is odd. If a mid-term transfer to a non-D1 school would he be eligible to participate in spring? Don’t see Bob blocking any transfer unless maybe to TT. : 0

When you transfer down a level, usually you are eligible right away…unless NCAA rules changed since I was in college.

If you can’t get on the field at wide receiver on this OU team, you shouldn’t be playing wide receiver. No disrespect to OU, but it’s 75% Shepard 20% Neal and 5% whoever can run and chew bubblegum.

This indicates to me that he is possibly being out played by the true freshman class. If your a confident kid, I would think your eyes would be big at the opportunity at receiver right now.

Not surprising. Wasn’t sure which WR would see the writing on the wall, but I figured at least one would.

wouldn’t be surprised to lose smith at rb and possibly brooks……….wish they could find some utilization for brooks with his speed, but that requires some jh imagination

Wishing the kid all that is great….

Praying that Dannon is blessed with much success.

Pretty quick for a kid to decide to transfer. I guess it might be smarter to do it now than to wait though. He’ll have to sit out a year wherever he goes and he’s already had his RS year. If he’s already buried on the depth chart, it’s better for him to go now when he’ll still have a couple of playing years available. I’d say to him, good luck and thanks for your time in Norman.
