OU Football 2015 Schedule Officially Released

The Big 12 released the official 2015 football schedule on Wednesday afternoon, which in turn allowed Oklahoma to officially release their full 2015 schedule as well. Here is said schedule.

schedule

Couple quick observations:

* Bedlam appears to have been moved back to the week of Thanksgiving. Which had been the tradition in years past, but also means OU will no longer — or at least for 2015 — have what had become the new tradition, a “showcase” game the same weekend as the other conference’s hold their championship games.

* I find it somewhat odd that OU has three bye weeks on this current 2014 schedule and yet will only have just one according to the schedule above. Additionally, that bye weeks falls early in the season and prior to Big 12 play. Which means OU will have to play their full 9-game Big 12 slate with no off week between any of those games.

* We’ll have to wait and see just how good they and/or OU are in 2015, but closing out your season with @ Baylor, vs. TCU & @ Ok. State at least on paper has the potential to be pretty rough.

* Lastly, we didn’t really need the schedule to officially come out to confirm 2015 provides a pretty weak slate of games for season ticket holders.

So what catches your eye? What do you like/dislike? Thoughts?

I noticed the one bye week…but also it looks like September 5th being the first game is that week 2 of the season? If so why start the season with a bye?
Also I wonder if the open date at the end is consistent with all the big12 teams. That could mean the big 12 wants to add a conference title game or something.

I’m sure there will be some games prior to 9/5, but perusing a number of other schools’ schedules it appears that will in fact be the true opening weekend in 2015.

    • Jed says:

We started this year about one week earlier and will end one week later, so I think that’s basically it.

I suspect that after this year’s egg laying by OSU and “disappointment” by OU that the league wanted a better game for the last league game of the year – maybe TCU and Baylor or UT Baylor is scheduled then.

I think Bedlam has traditionally been scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend, but then the schools have the option of mutually agreeing to move it. My money is on it getting pushed back a week, unless Boone just decides to be a bigger dick and not allow it.

  • HoustonChiver says:

Isn’t one of the three bye weeks this year just there to push Bedlam back to the conference championship week?

That being said we should still have 2…

Lets hope Bob coaches up to his salary.

  • M. Foster says:

I can’t believe they’re making these kids play nine games in a row with no bye!

  • Super Keith says:

I think it’s a mistake to move the Bedlam game back to Thanksgiving weekend. As Jordan said, that game had become an opportunity to have OU in the national conversation on CCG weekend. Since the Big XII doesn’t have a CCG, it had become sort of a defacto CCG (when OSU and OU are both in the hunt).

I have a feeling that date will change before next fall rolls around.

I hate that we schedule Akron (currently 5-6) and Tulsa (currently 2-8) and then Bob Stoops goes and runs his mouth about aTm’s schedule. If this is what we are scheduling, then I don’t care if he and Sumlin are best friends, Stoops needs to keep his mouth shut.

    • boomersooner says:

how long ago was akron scheduled? tulsa is a regional game. every team has those. with our conference schedule, we’re probly not gonna schedule someone like miami and notre dame to go along with tennessee

    • albsooner says:

I’m not worried about that so much. Our conference is plenty strong to overcome some week OOC. Plus, it can help break in some inexperienced QB cough cough

    • SoonerfanTU says:

And Tennessee. On the road. So…..

    • Logan says:

Really? Tulsa was 71-35 between 2005-12 when signed the deal so show some respect for a traditionally quality program. As for the Zips I dunno.

    • SCSooner87 says:

We also play Tennessee… I wouldn’t leave them out of your list just to prove your point.

  • albsooner says:

Can’t wait for Tenn in Knoxville. That may be one of the best places OU has played under Bob. Is there a better venue where OU has played under Bob? I think Oregon, FSU, and ND were up there as elite venues. However, Tenn may be at another level even above those mentioned.

I know we played Bama too, but they weren’t at the top of their game at the time…still a great venue. I believeTenn is up there with OSU, Bama, UF, Mich, and Auburn as the top places to play.

    Can’t wait!

  • JB says:

I wish we’d go back to playing Okie State in October or early in November like we used to. I would also like to have a marquee opponent to finish of the season, but alas, Nebraska left and we can’t really move the Texas game. The Big 12 just isn’t what it used to be.

Maybe we could try playing our toughest non-conference opponent to the last game of the year? Finish off the season with Tennessee, LSU, Ohio State, Michigan…that would be more impressive to voters on the committee in my opinion. Let’s face it, whether oSu has improved or not, they just don’t carry much weight nationally speaking and we still beat them damn near every time. We should have someone more competitive to finish off the year.

  • Logan says:

WV, Tech, and TCU a weak slate of home games? Another spoiled OU fan I see that wants the drama instead of appreciating the game.

  • Stephen Dale says:

Looking at the home/ away for conference games plus the trip to Tennessee plus OU having to rebuild the OL/secondary, etc………………I see this team struggling to do any better in 2015 than 7-5 with losses to Tennessee, WV, Texas, KSt., and Baylor…..an early prognostication……WV ( depending on the play of QB Crest) could be the co-favorite in the Little 12-2 along with Texas……….
