Had a couple notes we wanted to get up today.

Colin Samuel: As many of you know by now, the CB that we mentioned to y’all over the past few weeks, Colin Samuel out of Long Beach Poly picked up an OU offer last night. Can’t emphasize to you how talented this young man is. He did also pick up a UCLA offer earlier this week so that will be OUs primary competition. Spoke to Samuel last night and he said he’s “pretty sure” he’ll take a visit to Oklahoma. We think a lot of it is going to come down to whether or not there is a quick commitment to UCLA. If he commits quickly then obviously it’s done. If it drags out and he takes the visit then that changes things. Colin is a very intelligent young man so he’d be fine wherever he went to school.

Calvin Bundage: OU has offered 2016 hard hitting safety, Calvin Bundage out of Edmond Santa Fe. Bundage is a Clay Mack disciple so you can guarantee that by the time he graduates he’ll not only be a big physical safety, he will also have the cover skills to match.

Also, if you missed it, we’ve got an update on Kahlil Haughton here.

Sooners need as many DBs as they can get, add into that LBs and DL as well

    • Boom says:

      Big frame already.

      • Super K says:

Lays the lumber. He’s what everyone believes Will Sunderland is in their minds

        • cjsooner says:

K, do you not like Sunderland as a safety prospect in the big xii? I haven’t really watched his film, but like his measureables and that he’s a top in-state prospect. If nothing else maybe he could play lb. Is he stiff like Ahmad Thomas?

          • Zack says:

Film is not very good but yes he does have the measurables. To me he does not play with a ton a fire and plays slower than the times he puts up. Reid was top 10 or close to that in spark rating at the opening so he tests well and shows up well on film.
I’m not saying Sunderland can’t get it done but I just think we would be seeing gabe Lynn 2.0.

          • Super K says:

Can’t disagree with anything you’ve said. What I hope though is that because he clearly has great athleticism it’ll just be a matter of him really getting the coaching

          • Zack says:

Exactly he has the tools. And he may be better than the film shows because his stats as a junior were pretty good 98 tackles and 6 ints. But whoever made his highlight film did not do him any favors. And he didn’t look good in the man on man drills at the opening.

Really surprised at the quality of visitors for the Kansas game this weekend. Westbrook (wr), Turner (S), Johnson (cb). All are junior college players and are at positions of immediate need for OU. Thanks for the info on them. Also I have read that the Bedlam game is going to have some top notch athletes in Norman. Still seems to be a lot of interest for OU.

          • Zack says:

It’s good that kids still see ou as a destination. I’m not sure who is leaning towards ou and I hope it’s not a mad scramble at the end of January when kids finally start announcing at the all star games. Hopefully we can sell kids on early playing time and maybe that’s a key reason they end up here. The only positions I believe should always redshirt are qbs and linemen, which we are set there for now and could add a few more linemen.

          • Gary Robbins says:

Just a thanks for all your posts on OU recruits. Seems like OU has a shot at Barnett, Wariboko, M. Rankin, (ol), Gallimore and Campbell (dl), Newsome, Westbrook (wr), Wheeler, Kirkland, McKee, DeBerry, McGinnis (lb), Haughton, Turner, W. Johnson, Ykili Ross, (db). There is probably many more and OU seems to just keep on offering.

          • Stephen Dale says:

Gary………….that’s what happens when you have a disappointing season and potential recruits ‘slow play’ OU.. Hard to fill the quota when nobody is biting,,,,,,,,,,

          • Gary Robbins says:

Seems like OU is always a bridesmaid but not a bride. Here’s hoping that come February things will change. It is time for OU to have a top 10 or higher recruiting class. OU does have some excellent recruiters just not enough in the right positions.

          • Super K says:

He has tremendous measurables just not sure it shows up on the field with enough regularity. He appears slow out of his breaks. I don’t know that I’d say he’s stiff but I know a friend of mine worked with him and said he is. Again don’t know if I’d agree with that.

        • cjsooner says:

Also what do you think of Thomas and Byrd long term? Can they play safety in Mike’s scheme effectively in this conference?

          • Super K says:

I always thought Thomas was more of an LB. Byrd can play but he’s got to put more work in outside of regular practice hours. But Byrd has playmaking ability. I just hope he doesn’t get discouraged

        • SavageSoonerEsq says:

Are you implying that Will Sunderland is not as good as advertised?

    • Sooner Ray says:

Kid has no respect for his own body, loves to lay the wood.

  • soonerbred4ever says:

Maybe we could get Edmond SF’s defensive back coach too, we need one of those.

  • Indy_sooner says:

Love the instate offer. K, have you done a write up on Calvin yet?

    • Super K says:

No but myself or Alex will prob see him this weekend at Clay’s clinic so it’ll be good to see where he is in terms of cover ability right now.

  • Super Keith says:

I can’t help but think TFB had something to do with Samuel’s offer. Maybe it was just a coincidence, but considering TFB were on Samuel before he was being mentioned by anyone else, I think it could be that TFB tipped off our coaches (either directly, or via this site).

    Great job guys!

    • Super K says:

We aren’t allowed to talk to coaches about recruits but we know through the grapevine that there a number of coaches from different schools that read our site. That’s why we try to feature guys like Colin. You may recall that Jaylon Lane didn’t have a single high major offer when we first featured him. Toot toot 😉

  • Ryan says:

I read there were 3 JUCO players visiting this weekend? All secondary guys?

  • EasTex says:

Super K, I have mentioned a sophomore RB on other threads by the name of Cameron Haller.
Some think this coming weekend against South Oak Cliff could be his breaking out as a player to be noticed provided, of course, if he has a good game.
I just happened to check and see if he had any video up and utube doesn’t have any, but hudl does. Unfortunately for me this video requires the Microsoft Silverlight which isn’t available for us Linux users.
Hope you and some of the folks here can tell me what they see.
    http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3128059/cameron-haller

    • Sooner Ray says:

Tex, I clicked on the link and there are two plays shown. A short pass and a run for no gain. Couldn’t even tell which player was Haller.

      • EasTex says:

        WTH?
Why would they bother to put that on video?
For what it’s worth he is number 5. Young man is averaging 8+ yards per carry and some of the opponents have described him as “Barry Sanderesque.”

      • EasTex says:

BTW, thanks for telling me. I was about to try a Linux work around to the Silverlight issue and really didn’t want to because of the security issues always related to Windows products. Now there is no need.

        • Sooner Ray says:

One play was against Crandall and one play against Hallsville, neither looked like anything someone would want on a highlight reel. It did say Marshall freshman #5 so I assume that’s the guy you mentioned.

          • EasTex says:

It’s him, but he is a sophomore and they played Crandall for the first time in September.
Whoever posted those snips needs to get their act together.

          • Sooner Ray says:

The video didn’t look like a professional production and it did say Sept. ’14. If he’s posting 8+ this year some good video will pop up soon.

          • EasTex says:

I going to let some folks know at the Smoaky forums. I know their head coach visits there and people close to the program.
He is at 140 carries 1222yds and 22 Tds for the season, a TD for each sixth carry.
He was timed with a 90+ fastball on the varsity baseball team last year, so his collegiate sport may be in doubt.

          • Sooner Ray says:

Being a football fan I hate those professional baseball teams but I wouldn’t blame a kid for taking that path. Has to be easier on the body.

          • EasTex says:

True, and football players don’t get $325million contracts like the one guy from Florida, either.

      • EasTex says:

        Finally found some videos.

In order to highlight Haller go to the Nacogdoches videos below where it says rankings update, the fourth video against Nac shows quite a few plays with #5 Haller.

  • Kevin says:

I’ve been hearing that the high school football near where I live is supposed to be pretty good but I don’t know about any of the players. Wish I could plug players the way so many others on the site do!

  • Sooner Ray says:

Sooners men up at the half on Creighton ( FS1) if anyone’s bored.

  • rphokc says:

    bb choked……..blew a 17 pt lead

  • dallassooner says:

Can OU just hire Clay Mack?

  • Sooner Ray says:

Seen on another board that the Bundage family is big time pokie blood. Will be interesting.

  • Stephen Dale says:

If Samuel wants to stay near his family, UCLA/USC are the obvious choices. If he wants to play outside California ; OU offers that chance.
