Kenneth Mann Commits to Oklahoma (Updated 7:00 pm)

OU received it’s second defensive end commitment of the week earlier today. As TFB first reported, DE Kenneth Mann out of Burleson, TX committed to the Sooners. On Monday Tyrell Jacobs committed to OU.

Both Jacobs and Mann are long athletic defensive lineman who are projected to play the 4i technique for Oklahoma. Both look like perfect fits in OU’s scheme as they have the size to hold up against the run, the length to set the edge outside when need be and the quickness to shoot the gap.

Mann had visited Oklahoma once before but didn’t have an offer at the time. With an offer in hand and very few spots left on the defensive line, Mann didn’t hesitate to pull the trigger. He loves coach Jerry Montgomery and said about Oklahoma, “I felt it was the right place for me.”

And while Mann holds a number of other offers, it sounds like he’s done looking around saying that he is “shutting it down. OU’s the place for me.”

BOOMER!

UPDATE (7:00 pm): In talking about coach Jerry Montgomery, Kenneth says, “I can tell he’s a great coach. He’s a big reason I committed”

Here’s a picture of Kenneth with Tapper. Kid has a great build/frame. Looks perfect for OU’s DE position.

Just FYI OU is definitely still going to be recruiting guys like Neville Gallimore.

    • Boom says:

It will all work itself out.

    • Boom says:

If we could get Gallimore or Campbell that would be a huge win. Get Tak and his teammate the big T/NG would be nice. This gives you good ammo for the next couple of posts with Mann & Jacobs. Can’t wait to see you Mann Up. sorry, had to do it.

    • Doobie74OU says:

Yeah this commitment allows you to go all in on elite guys such as Gallimore, Cambell and who knows maybe even McKenzie after OU throttles Tennessee by 28 points early this year! (I know wishful thinking but I called the Mann commitment today so I will try to use my powers of prediction again!)

  • kt-raida says:

Tis the moment to get get Crunk my good sir.

    • Super K says:

Definitely feels good to at least have needs filled on the DL right now so that OU can basically pursue guys like Gallimore full on without any pressure.

      • Zack says:

And fehoko who’s trail has quieted a lot. Btw pretty sure you guys are the only site with a direct quote from Mann today.

        • Super K says:

Fehoko shut his recruiting down. No visits unfortunately. You know Tech didnt want him seeing OU.

          • DCinAZ says:

He’s gonna see OU either way. One way is better than the other. He chose the other.

          • EasTex says:

I must admit I was disappointed in what I saw with Fehoko in the Opening. He gave good effort but couldn’t win a battle with the blocker.

  • James D-Space says:

    BOOM!
    Welcome to Sooner Nation Kenneth.

    • HoustonChiver says:

hahaha This is how I reacted when we flipped Corey Nelson a few years ago

  • ohiosoonerdevildog says:

Boom! Now lets go out and get about 5 olinemen and 3 lbs.

  • Zack says:

Jh must be having a session with his therapist about his pending meltdown. Oui is nothing but crickets with news of a commitment.

  • L'carpetron Dookmarriot says:

    Oh, Mann!

    • SoonerKevin says:

I hope he ends up like the Mann, that played on the opposite side from Dexter Manley, in that Washington Redskins defense. I think his name was Charles Mann?

  • Zack says:

I can’t believe rivals has these 2 kids as 2 stars. Shows that rankings aren’t everything these 2 are studs.

    • Doobie74OU says:

Rivals like all the other rankings evaluate all players by the same standard which is not an exact science. Like Super K has been saying when you look at these two guys at DT you would think they were to small and at DE you would think they were to big “tradditionally speaking. One of these days (probably never) these guys that hand out stars will evaulate these players for the position they will likely play and then maybe they will get closer on some of these star rankings. I won’t hold my breath though!

      • Zack says:

So now that they know where these kids will play they will probably re-evaluate them and boost them up to 3 stars like they did orso last year.

      • Boom says:

Here’s how it works. If a guy is a 2* and Alabama offers, he’s now a 4*. Easy bake oven.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Guess Kenneth wanted to be the Mann. Boomer!

  • Cory Reedy says:

He has the face of a 12-year old boy and the body of a 25-year old mann.

  • Super K says:

Added a picture of Mann and Tapper from his twitter account. He’s got a great frame! Already has some good muscle development.

  • L'carpetron Dookmarriot says:

Mann is exhibit number eleventy suggesting that which schools offer a recruit isn’t the most important variable on whether he’s good or not. Phillips, Grissom, and Tapper are exhibits number eleventy-one, eleventy-two and eleventy-three.

    • Super K says:

Mann really fits what we do. He’s that in between a DT and a DE type that doesn’t necessarily work for everyone but works in our front perfectly.

      • Zack says:

He and Jacobs are almost identical I would like to see those 2 in a combine type atmosphere and see how close their measurables are. I think other teams are going to have nightmares in the future once we find our next striker backer

        • Gary Robbins says:

Is OU done for defensive lineman at this point or will they take a couple more?

          • Zack says:

I think they will still go after one more commitment. I think they will go strong after gallimore first to see where he stands if not I could see them going after the juco ng and maybe one tweener guy that could be a jack linebacker.

    • Indy_sooner says:

In all fairness, Philips was an considered an elite recruit by almost all the services . Why his offer sheet lacked…idk.

    • Baron Boomer says:

      & Striker too!

  • SoonerinLondon says:

I love Tapper…whole idea that we pulled him out of Maryland, inexperienced in football, and trained him up to be a potential draft pick. That is great for OU, great for Tap and great for recruiting.

    • Cary Newman says:

A potential “high” draft pick I might add.

    • John Garner says:

Goes to show how good our coaches are at spotting talent and coaching it up. That’s why I don’t trust or pay much heed to “recruiting experts”.

  • SoonerPhins says:

Tapper needs his dreads back lol

    • EasTex says:

With his hair and beard trimmed up, I think Tapper looks Dapper.

    • Stephen says:

Saw him at Norman Music Festival. His dreads were died crimson. Would have been awesome with the new white helmets.

  • kt-raida says:

So does this mean we’ve officially moved on from lampkin?

    • Super K says:

Oklahoma would still take Lampkin if he announced for OU but from what we gather he’s probably going to be heading to Texas.

  • Lesslie Stanford says:

Tapper not having dreads still throws me off! But looks like a good get.
