Jordan Phillips and Zack Sanchez Note (UPDATED Thurs., 9:07 pm)

– A number of people have asked about the health of Jordan Phillips. In fact I received a text from someone saying they’d heard he might not play this weekend. I checked with a source and he said said that Jordan is fine. Hopefully we’ll hear more in the post practice media opportunity. I’m not sure where the rumor is coming from but I figured with all the people asking about it, it must be circulating widely so I wanted to tell you what I’ve heard.

– Also was told Sanchez should be fine but he will “probably sit out a few practices because of his shoulder.”

UPDATE (Thursday, 9:07 pm): Earlier today I was asked again about the status of Jordan Phillips. I checked with a source earlier this evening and was told that Phillips is fine and did practice today. Again, not sure where the rumors of him possibly being out are coming from but I’ve been trying to get regular updates for y’all because based on the number of inquiries we’ve had about it, a rumor does seem to be out there. We haven’t heard of any issues though. If I hear something I’ll pass that info on but right now everything I’ve heard is that he’s doing well and practice as usual.

I think the rumors started bc he sat out a lot of plays in the second half, but I am pretty sure that was the plan with him all along. Bring him back slowly and give time to the 2nd stringers.

Exactly. Smart coaching. We have depth but we’ll definitely need JP during the stretch run in November.

I thought he limped off the field at one point but it seemed like he got rolled up on and maybe tweaked an ankle if anything. I am watching the game again tonight so I will see if i can find the pint where he came out again.

I did see him come off the field a little slow after one of the drives. I think in the 3rd quarter. He seemed to be walking like he was favoring his back. Alot of old guys know what that walk looks like. Let’s just hope that he’s fine.

Sanchez and his shoulder worry me. I just have a bad feeling that at best, he is going to deal with a bum shoulder all season, and at worst, he is going to hurt it more and have to miss significant time.

I hate losing players to injury, but the upside to a 1 or 2 week recovery period is that the younger kids get reps. Get through the games when you’re down a man, and the team gets stronger. I’ll be looking forward to this evening’s updates. Thanks, K.

IMO West Virginia is a game we could get through with Jordan not being 100%, Sanchez on the other hand would be a big asset. I don’t think he needs to go through a physical type practice this week to be prepared so hopefully by Saturday he will be ready to go. The fact is if he continues to tackle head down shoulder first, not only will he continue to have shoulder problems, he won’t make it a week in the NFL.

    Bump for the update.

Coach Mont said he was healthy in last night’s OU Coaches Corner, so I look forward to seeing wreak some havoc in the middle tomorrow evening.
