Joe Mixon Note

We have received questions from readers and requests for an update regarding the Joe Mixon situation. As most of you already know, we have a number of sources in and around Norman and OU. We’ve spoken to quite a few people with direct or indirect knowledge of the situation. However there is so much contradictory, albeit credible information, that we do not feel comfortable publishing it. Being wrong about a football game or a recruit’s commitment is one thing, this is something much more serious and it’s better left to the police.

We have gone back over the initial reports we received from witnesses and they have not changed. We’ve also received other accounts corroborating those accounts. But while we have eye witness accounts of people who saw the woman verbally attack Mixon and saw Joe refuse to respond, that doesn’t negate the possibility of something having happened at a later time. We’ve heard reports that something else may indeed have happened but we cannot find an eye witness and we cannot corroborate the only account we have from an officer who claims to have viewed the surveillance film.

Thank you for your restrant! Furthers my appreciation for this site!

  • bjwalker82 says:

I think what needs to happen now by us as commenters is to not be tempted to defend/accuse either Joe or the girl. I think we should just stand pat and hope this works itself out in a just and expeditious manner.

    • Kanfdog says:

This is 100% accurate. And I also commend TFB for showing restraint and some journalistic integrity that seems to be lacking in so many other outlets. Thanks for your work guys. Hopefully we can get back to some recruiting and football news soon enough.

  • roygbell says:

It is to bad that other sites can’t/don’t follow your lead.

  • rphdenton says:

I would think that this incident, at least the facts of what happened, will be much clearer this week……….might take a while for the legal wheels to finish…….interesting, out of all the posts on several boards, haven’t seen mention of the girl getting lawyered up………with some luck, this is resolved, for the most part, this week………better to sit tight vs speculating………tfb can jump in if something concrete is of value

    • EasTex says:

I still find it puzzling that she bugged out of town so fast.

      • rphdenton says:

think about it…….on LT, I’ve seen her mug shots from previous actions and she now has an arrest warrant out for those….her tx address is posted, some social media posts, etc……….her name is public…..don’t think the whole norman area doesn’t know who she is? ……the girls at mizzou did not press charges on dgb fearing retaliation from not only dgb but the univ population in general, it was reported………no matter how this turn out, she would be considered a pariah by many and there are some crazies out there……..otoh, would seem like she’ll have to make an appearance in norman if the investigation requires it, at which time the warrants come into play

        • EasTex says:

I was thinking in terms of traveling while injured. Whenever I was or had to have some medical procedure the last thing I wanted to do was travel, I just wanted to be home.
          Being frightened is certainly plausible.

          • rphdenton says:

…..thxs……..I didn’t mean to make it sound like a lecture…….just surprised how quickly her personal info became known

          • EasTex says:

Most people aren’t nearly as discrete as they should be with their personal info.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

        Where did she go?

        • DCinAZ says:

Euless, TX. That’s where she’s from. Doesn’t seem like she went to the hospital either and her injuries, as she reported them, would require immediate medical attention.

        • EasTex says:

To her home town, Euless, TX.

  • John Garner says:

Thanx for waiting. I’m hopeful that the video will exonerate Mixon.

    • hOUligan says:

Would certainly think there is a surveillance system in the establishment. The tape will tell the story and whatever happens, happens.

  • leatherneck1061 says:

Joe and his attorney appear confident judging by the attorney’s statement (which could be lawyer-speak of course). But it does raise some questions. If it turns out Joe did not hit this girl, then who did?

    • Daddy R says:

I’ve been reading on other boards this morning (take that with a grain of salt, lol) that new info is being reported that she attacked Mixon, Joe pushed her in self defense, and that she fell after the push, possibly hitting her face, and possibly causing the injuries..though they are also stating the broken jaw may be BS.

Would definitely explain more, and make more sense, especially as to why the police aren’t hurrying to get Joe. But, as I said, this info is strictly from a couple posters on other boards, who claim to have heard new information, and quite possibly what the TFB has heard as well, though I CERTAINLY applaud them for not releasing any information on their end, unless they can credibly back it up. Thats why I LOVE this site!!

      • Chris White says:

I think he pushed her and she hit her face, causing the bloody nose but the rest is BS because there wasn’t a hospital trip, pictures, or EMT reports of a heavily fractured face.

        • Daddy R says:

Sounds certainly plausible… and the police let her go, and him for that matter…

          • EasTex says:

It’s also possible that she mouthed off to someone else after they had left the establishment and they(not Joe) clocked her.

          • Dana Rogers says:

As has been my thoughts since first hearing about this. On a side note; How restrained are TFB editors and readership in the urging of caution and avoiding the ruch to judgement while the situation sorts itself out. The whole tenor of discussion is one the other sites would do well to emulate.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

Seems as though there isn’t one thing this site does that isn’t worth praise. I’m glad I came here.

          • Zack says:

It’s a very strange story. I just want to see the police release a statement that documents the injuries I know they are still gathering the facts. But usually in a case like this the media would have had access to the 911 recording that night. They released some sort of dispatch stating “un-named” male.
I would also like to know if a police report was even filed and I’m hoping they end up clearly showing that mixon didn’t do anything. I don’t want him to get off by technicality

          • blaster1371 says:

I’ve been thinking that too. Especially with her stating she will file a civil suit against Mixon.

          • brainpimp says:

I can promise you one thing, if she files a civil suit, discovery is gonna be a real bitch for her.

        • blaster1371 says:

A a light shove on a drunk person could cause them to fall unto something. The shove may have been an appropriate level response and her drunk butt made her unable to stay vertical.

  • BoomerDave says:

Several things have puzzled me from the beginning. 1). She claims to have had several broken bones in her face and many of her teeth knocked loose, yet she sounded perfectly normal in the News9 interview. She also claimed that she was so badly injured that she couldn’t talk, all the while talking to the reporter and talking very clearly. Strange. 2). There have been many reports on here and elsewhere that there had an outstanding warrant out for her arrest for a previous offense. If true, why was she not arrested on the spot by NPD and hauled to jail? Lots of things just don’t add up here. 3) apparently she was on probation for her CDS conviction and placed on a ROADS treatment program. I can’t imagine in light of the fact that NPD has stated that she was quite intoxicated when they found her that this would be a clear violation of her probation and her deferred sentence would e revoked if and when she returned to the State of Oklahoma. Just some random thought.

    • Christopher Coffman says:

      4) She left town immediately. 5) She refused to send in pictures of her injuries.

    • JB says:

I was also puzzled by how clearly she spoke on News 9. I’ve been around someone who had a broken jaw, and they didn’t move their mandible when they spoke, but spoke through gritted teeth. I really have a hard time giving much credibility to this woman’s story. Hopefully some facts can come to light and let the public know what really happened.

      • Zack says:

According to oui it is expected that mixon will meet with the police tomorrow but that from what they have gathered they don’t expect charges to be filed tomorrow. So a few things would come into play one is that the camera doesn’t corroborate one of the stories or either. 2 maybe it shows both making physical contact (if this is the case hopefully she initiated contact) then it becomes a matter of details leading up as far as exchanging words. And 3 maybe the camera shows nothing definitive and they just have to get his statement of what happened. Last thing I will say I’ve heard all the different rumors just like everyone else and since they have been wildly different then there’s no telling whether this oui report is good info until we see how it all plays out this week.

  • Chris White says:

From a legal standpoint, not from a personal feeling or moral standpoint, if the girl was verbally attacking and then put her hands on Mixon, he has the right to defend. Because she said “he hit me once” it can’t be used as an attack on her or “over kill rules” because he struck once and not multiple times or got on top of her to continue etc. I have only heard people say the never saw him hit her and some people say he pushed her away after she came at him and she hit her face against a table which caused the bloody mouth. Either way, it’s never a good thing for a man to put his hands on a woman regardless of the situation but legally (if these rumors are true) he had the right to do so. If he is innocent and charges dropped etc. I still think he will be forced to redshirt and be on volunteer duties for the season.

    • Daddy R says:

I would think if he is INNOCENT, he shall not be punished at all. What would a redshirt do for him besides give him more time to contemplate why he came to Oklahoma in the first place. IF he is innocent, and this was total self defense, and especially just a push, then the Sooners need to speak out against the media and all the hatred that has been thrown at this young man, who JUST turned 18. Calling him guilty before the facts are even out. I just hope if he was innocent, that he can forgive against all those who have condemned him, and wants to stay and PROVE the kind of person he, and others, claim he is. That said, I wouldn’t blame him in the least if he is innocent, and decides to get the hell out of dodge…

And if he’s not innocent, well, that’s another matter entirely. Either way, I think Bob & CO. will have a logical and wise response.

      • Clint Lenard says:

I agree. If he’s innocent there’s no reason (whatsoever) to punish the kid for defending himself. He took a risk to travel across many states, leaving loved ones behind, to go to school and play football. He may have put himself into a bad situation, but if this girl caused the problem – he should not have to suffer the consequences, as long as he didn’t beat her down, like news9 tried to make it out to be…

        • Zack says:

I still can’t believe news9 didn’t do a counter to the story the victim tried to tell. I’m not sure if they just don’t want to sound biased but still in a situation like this they allowed mixon to be guilty to their viewers without asking a follow up question to the girl when she said at the end of the interview I can’t open my mouth but she was able to say he needs to be in jail and that she wants to file a lawsuit.

          • Zack says:

Oh and that she’s not even sure it was him. And the gay friend who got his chance on news9 said she got hit when she turned away to look at the table? So if it was one punch it makes no sense that her face is messed up unless it’s from hitting the table or ground. And if it was a push to get her away from him then I don’t think that’s as bad of a look. But again we should find out more clear details as the week goes on most has been speculation.

      • hOUligan says:

First, I really hope that Mixon is totally exonerated, of course, but IF there IS some culpability on his part, say he pushed her, that he receives no more than a 2-3 game suspension. From some of what I’m reading, this kid needs to be involved as much as possible and practicing and seeing the field some his freshman year or he might end up leaving.

  • Kevin Moore says:

What does the officer say about the surveillance tape?

    • soonermusic says:

      I was wondering the same.

Recognizing that the officer who “claimed to have seen” the video hasn’t been independently corroborated, I was wondering if you could report whether he indicated that the video was conclusive one way or another. Realizing also that the info would be speculation until confirmed.

I certainly understand that anything that gets written here by the mods could conceivably start a firestorm, so I would understand restraint.

      • Jordan Esco says:

“I certainly understand that anything that gets written here by the mods could conceivably start a firestorm, so I would understand restraint.”

        Bingo.

        • ToatsMcGoats says:

I’m sure with all of the support this site gets from all of the pay sites, TFB would be exonerated for any false information that may be relayed…(sarcasm font)

        • TheKid says:

Thanks for your reply. I fully understand your caution and restraint. If there’s a video we’ll all know soon enough. Mixon is currently young and has a strong supporting cast that will help him grow to become a better man through all of this. Hopefully the rest of the players learn from this as well and come together even more as a team.

  • soonermusic says:

The problem with these kinds of stories is that almost no matter how it comes out, there will still be folks hollering either “cover-up” or “witch hunt.” Ugh….

  • SoonerinLondon says:

I’m very sorry that this happened. It has to have put the entire Freshman class into shell shock and, Joe Mixon, must be scared to death. Of course, the young woman is badly traumatized.

I hope the video shows everything, in good quality, and let’s the matter be settled without question or controversy.

    • Clint Lenard says:

I don’t think the young ‘woman’ is badly traumatized, I think this is something that was slowly building up, according to her social media history. Hopefully she gets the help she needs, regardless of the outcome. She has some serious bad habits.

  • Fear The Magic says:

Personally Im feeling better and better about this situation. Between everything thats now coming out on this girls history and personality and the fact that no arrest has been made makes me think that Joes offense was minor if anything at all. I could be wrong but hopefully not. I for one am so looking forward to seeing Joe putting up big yardage stats against the Texas’s and OSUs of the football world. Id hate to see that possibilty jeopardized.

  • BrandiD says:

Thank you for this. I know this young man personally and am having a very difficult time wrapping my mind even around the possibility of this happening as reported. As is anyone who knows Joe. It saddens me that he is being described as a ‘thug’. Joe is a quiet, respectful young man that has been welcomed in my home for over 4yrs. I am anxiously awaiting some factual details.

    • blaster1371 says:

This must be really tough For those of you who really know him and have a relationship. I think we would all agree that the TFB described Mixon during his recruitment and since he signed with OU in the most positive of ways. Thus, We as fans are also taken aback by this. Hope he is keeping his chin up.

    • Super K says:

We’ve talking to a lot of people over this weekend. A number of us exhausted our contacts to get as much information as possible. In the end we decided this post was best because there was just too much uncertainty surrounding things and too much at stake to not be absolutely sure. However, one thing seems pretty certain. In talking to various people the impression we get is that IF the worst is true, then it was incredibly out of character for Joe.

      • BrandiD says:

Again, I can’t wrap my mind around this even being a possibility. If you knew him…you’d say the same.

        • connie usa says:

I hope that he had nothing at all to do with this. BUT, college kids do drink, and drinking does make you do crazy things.

          • BrandiD says:

Which is also why this is so baffling to us. Joe is not known to drink. And trust me, I’m not a head in the sand type of person. I am the mother of four young adults, and can not make that same statement about all of them. This is completely out of character for Joe.

    • CS says:

We are all wishing well for the young man first, football player second! Stay strong and positive! Hope it gets resolved at the earliest!

  • thebigdroot says:

The truly sad part of this is if he is not guilty it will still follow him for the rest of his life. I hope he is innocent but he will hear about this at every game he plays. Truly sad.

  • Guest says:

what to believe, how all this makes me feel numb. I can’t wait till tomorrow to find out the truth for coach stoops…. How the hate damn

  • soonermusic says:

Yeah. I would certainly expect some developments tomorrow, but you know the way these things sometimes work, it could be a few days. Justice delayed is justice denied, at least as far as the fans are concerned. 🙂

And speaking of Stoops. I can just imagine how upset he is about all this. If you think his attitude was prickly before…

    • Super K says:

Yeah I’m sure there is going to be a storm. I talked to a friend who’s son is on the team and he’s incredibly happen that his son decided not to go out that night.

  • OUknowitscomin says:

Love this board! But you guys are a little slow. This story has evolved so far on Scout that world peace has been figured out. Ghandi even stopped by.

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

However this this turns out, I think it would be encouraging to see a self imposed curfew from the players, at least for awhile. With the Parker incident earlier this summer, and now this, I think that would probably be one of the first things mentioned in team meetings. Anyway, here’s to the truth coming out!

    • hOUligan says:

Think with practice finally starting this week, that will work itself out. Expect the coaches to keep the players well worked and occupied to the point few will want to do much more than lay on the floor or in an ice bath. Praise The Almighty, the season is upon us!!!

  • brainpimp says:

My 2 cents. I would be surprised if it went down as reported. I would not be surprised if it didn’t.

I have a few problems with the girls story. 1. She admits she remembers nothing. OK then how are you claiming the info you have. it’s all hearsay, you are repeating what others told you and those people had an axe to grind from your own story. 2. She claimed to have a multiple broken jaw and several other broken bones. I heard the channel 9 interview, no way in hell. You have that injury you are in the hospital and don’t talk. 3. Rush to media. CThis sent up all kinds of flags.

  • AllSooner says:

“However there is so much contradictory, albeit credible information, that we do not feel comfortable publishing it.”

Local media could take a lesson from you! They’re spitting out contradictory and changing stories without recanting or apologizing for the misleading information they spew out.

    Great Job Guys!!

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

So, no updates on the visitors over the weekend?
