Cornelius Floyd Notes

Last Wednesday night we let y’all know that Oklahoma offered 2014 DB Cornelius Floyd from Gulliver Prep HS in Miami. We wanted to give you a few notes about Cornelius.

First and foremost Cornelius is a good student. Everything we’ve heard about him as a student and a person is positive. Here’s a great interview with Cornelius: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lC9wcCCU5e0

In terms of footwork and technique Cornelius isnt nearly as far along as someone like Trai Mosley is. But when you talk about the qualities that make a 1st, 2nd, 3rd round draft type corner, Cornelius appears to have all of them. He appears to have long speed but you can see he’s comfortable short striding as well. He’s incredibly long and lean and for someone with that kind of length he still has good balance and agility. Again, he has all the natural tools it’s just going to be about development with him and Coach Mike Stoops is one of the best at DB development.

We’ve heard that OU is REALLY enamored with Floyd. In fact one of the coaches flat out loves the kid! They’ll be taking a trip down to Miami in the next week or two to visit him and some other prospects in the area. Oklahoma wants Floyd as a cornerback but he’s got the size to play safety if corner didn’t work. We don’t have a feel for how good OUs chances are with Floyd yet but we hope to know more very soon.

As we’ve said OU is looking for two more CBs in this class and the staff would love to have Floyd be one of those guys. However, it appears right now that Miciah Quick is Coach Norvell’s guy right now so we aren’t sure yet if 2 more CBs means someone like Floyd and someone else or if it means Floyd and Quick would do it. Also, we do know – as most of you would have guessed – Oklahoma is holding a spot for Steven Parker and we are still confident that he will end up at OU.

Physical. Deceptive speed. Surprising agility for how inelegant he looks.

wow, “deceptive speed” is literally what I thought and I think I actually used those words when talking to someone about him. Great minds… 🙂

  • Adrian says:

He is definitely physical and athletic, I wouldn’t say he starts as a freshman but if he is a hard worker and as good of a kid as you say which usually translates to “Coachable” then I see him as becoming a really productive player

Yeah with the depth on the team and as raw as he looks I agree. But Coach Mike doesn’t take long to get these kids ready (see Sanchez) and this fella is a physical specimen and appears to have it upstairs. We’ll find out more about him soon.
